"I've been on OxyContin CR 30mg 2x a day for 8 years. Oxycodone 10 mg IR for breakthrough pain. It works and has been the only drug that has kept me from giving up. I have had spinal disease since my late 20s. I've probably, over the years, been on every pain med, but they always quit working or I ended up needing more as time went by. I don't want more! My insurance decided a few years back that OxyContin ER would no longer be on their 'formulary'. I appealed to the insurance company. They denied my appeal. I went through a third-party physician (the insurance company's procedure) and won the appeal. The unbiased physician agreed with my doctor. Those who abused the opioids made us, who have chronic pain issues, really have to suffer for their irresponsibility. I won against the HMO Medicare insurance company. It makes me happy each month when they have to fill it without complaint, even though I know they hate paying for it! When did insurance companies become physicians anyway?"

"I feel this medicine has helped with minimum side effects. I do not get a high or low feeling taking it. I have been able to do more with little pain. I have learned my limitations which was very important in order to not overdo it that can cause more problems."

"Why are the reports for the public to read so jaded against the use of opioid medications? Too many false reports of abuse in chronic pain patients are mixed with clear reports of heroin abuse & deaths from heroin. Myself & most chronic pain patients, who are well-educated on side effects before starting opioids, all agree that the misuse of these opioids would never enter our minds. When prescribed these drugs, the result is the regift of our lives & functioning again. It is something we'd never chance losing after suffering the complete loss of sanity from unending pain that affects our ability to function in every way that a normal human takes for granted every day, every minute of their day and of their life. I'm in my 17th year of receiving pain relief with fentanyl."

"I have taken this drug for over 20 years for chronic pain. If I stop 1 person from starting this drug, then it has been worth it. Initially, it was the best pain reliever I ever tried. The problem is it is very addictive and stops working. The only way to sustain relief is to increase the dosage. I started at 60 mg and wound up at 200 mg. Unfortunately, at that dosage over the years causes brain cell deterioration. Remembering things becomes difficult, like family functions. In time, you become a walking zombie and numb to everything around you. You will lose interest in life and become drug sick if you don't take your pill on time. Your relief will no longer be there because it stops working after time. I am off now and have my life back."

"I was on 4 x 5 mg Oxycodone IR for my pain. After a year or so, I felt I needed an extra pill to cover me for 24 hrs. Doctor switched me to OxyNeo 2 x 10 mg every 12 hours plus 5 mg of Oxycodone for breakthrough if needed. The first 2 days I felt great, OxyNeo took care of the pain, and I did not feel drowsy or tired. However, after the 3rd day, I started feeling very agitated and angry after I took my OxyNeo. I'm not sure what's going on. Has anyone reacted like this to long-acting Oxycodone? Too bad because I liked this long-acting one, but feeling angry all day is not worth it either."

"I have Fibromyalgia and major back problems. Recently, I visited the ER for my back, and they gave me Tylenol 3, which did nothing for my pain. I went to the doctor a few days later and told him I need something stronger, and he prescribed me 10mg of OxyContin twice per day. I can only tolerate taking one per day (any more makes me throw up), but since starting this medicine, it has significantly reduced my all-around pain levels by at least 85%! I am grateful for this medicine."

"I have been on opiates for 15 years now because of a degenerative condition on my C5 and C6 disks and a sterno-clavicular joint with constant subluxation and arthrosis. 3 years ago I was prescribed OxyContin 20 mg 2x daily, and for breakthrough pain, I simply chew 1/3 to 1/2 of a 20 mg OxyContin tablet. Less side effects than morphine and much better pain management combined with Celecoxib and Paracetamol. I do not overmedicate when I do not need it since I had such bad experiences with tramadol addiction, that stuff was vile. Sometimes I take it a few weeks in a row and pause when I can to lessen the habituation, and I never will get dependent. 42 pieces of 20 mg OxyContin tabs are enough for like 2 months of quality life as it very effectively takes the edge off the pain that I have every time I am standing or being active for more than a few hours in a row. Besides some pruritus (itching) from time to time and the occasional constipation I get from OxyContin, all is well. An 8+ out of 10 from me!"

"I was hit by an 18-wheeler. I fractured my spine. My doctor prescribed OxyContin because I'd been taking high doses of acetaminophen for years, which affected my liver. I took OxyContin successfully for 3 years 'til the US government decided chronic pain patients are expendable. I successfully weaned off of OxyContin, without any help! My doctor made sure I had enough to wean off before he left his practice. Reality: Only 0.3 percent of chronic pain patients ever become addicted. The US government has recently admitted to fraudulent and overstated numbers, elevated by over 50 percent! I've done every other treatment recommended by doctors, most incredibly expensive and invasive. Nothing worked, and I've been bedridden for the past 3 plus years."

"I'm an ex-flooring installer of 17 years (11 years non-union, 6 union years). My back is wrecked. I have tears in 2 of my discs at L3/L4 and L4/L5 locations. I have no cartilage left anywhere in my lower back. My PCP put me through the tests, multiple MRI's/CT's, injections, lots of prednisone, and then finally Norco. It took me a few days of being on Hydrocodone before the relief started, but relief it was! I gained much of my functionality back. I was moved up to the higher doses and then on to OxyContin ER. OxyContin had fewer side effects and, in general, felt less wasted. I'm now on 60mg x3 daily with 20mg IR 3x daily. It's been very helpful in my life."

"This medication is great for my chronic back pain. I have been on the same dose for over two years, and it helped me get through most of the day just on two 20mg pills. Lately, it has stopped working as well, and I am having a lot of breakthrough pain as the OxyContin is extended release. From it working for almost 6 hours per dose, it now only helps for about 2 hours. It is great if you are also given something for breakthrough pain, but I cannot imagine being off of it, to be honest. I have had severe chronic lower back pain due to a pinched nerve, which causes shooting pain that goes up and down my spine and even causes my legs to go numb. I also have carpal tunnel in my right hand and fibromyalgia. Overall, this medication has been very helpful."

"I have been prescribed OxyContin 60mg for well over 6 years now. In just the last 2 months, I have gotten a refill. I know for a fact that either the manufacturer or where they get their medication through, there has been a shortage of the medication per the dosage compared to what it used to be. I don't know at what level this is occurring. Whether this is another government regulation that says if someone is prescribed 60mg tablets, the manufacturer is only allowed to put 30mg in that tablet? I have been on this same medication for a long time, and starting December 2015 and January 2016, my medication has been shorted. My body goes through tremendous withdrawal symptoms each month I refill this medication. I need an answer."

"The extended-release OxyContin works the same for pain relief as Percocet, but with barely any side effects. Doesn't make me nearly as foggy or give me that euphoric feeling that Percocet does. I can focus better during the day and sleep through the night without waking up needing more pills."

"I had knee replacement years ago, when they got in there, it was a lot worse than what they thought. I ended up with steel from almost my hip to halfway down my shin. This has made a difference in my walking and being wheelchair-bound. With OxyContin, I can shop and do normal things. Without the pain relief it gives me, I would be useless."

"I have had chronic pain since I was 14 (now 60). I have tried every RX suggested, multiple pain clinics, too many surgeries to count, exercise, meditation, acupuncture, and hypnotherapy, with nothing gained but side effects or increasing tolerance. I have been taking OxyContin for 10 years and have since been able to put the pain on a back burner and get back to my life. The 'pendulum swings,' as they say, continued back and forth medical opinions on the treatment of chronic pain. The insurance companies now seem to be in complete control again, and cost becomes the number one consideration in prescribed treatment. It matters not what my doctor says or recommends, the cost is such that, as of this month, I can no longer take OxyContin. I am so tired, back to bed I go."

"I have been living with chronic knee and back pain since 1982, having a total of 13 right and left knee surgeries. I have degenerative joint disease throughout, the sacral vertebrae in my spine have fused together, and I have an injury in my back. I have been on multiple pain medications over the years, and this medication helps me get through the day, along with Flexeril. I have quit taking it for several months on end so I don't get addicted and did not have any side effects or withdrawal symptoms. I did have high levels of pain, but anyone who lives with a chronic condition like ours understands this. I have a great doctor who works with me trying to control it."

"For chronic pain: I take 40 mg OxyContin 3 times per day. I had C3-C7 laminectomy, fusion, two plates. Degenerative disc disease, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, severe spinal stenosis, regional pain syndrome, bulging disks at T4-T5 and pinched spinal cord in 3 places with severe nerve damage. I was on morphine sulfate 30 mg for 3 years, now I take the OxyContin with occasional breakthrough meds. I have found 90% of the time, if I take my meds at the same time every day, it works just fine, with the occasional bad day here and there. Overall, it has worked well for me. I have been on it for a year now."

"I hope your pain is managed as best as it can be! I'm in the UK and am prescribed both OxyContin (sustained-release) and Oxynorm, which is a fast-acting version of oxycodone. I have degenerative disc disease in my lumbar spine and am listed for surgery in early October 2012. This medicine takes the edge off my pain."

"I used OxyContin to deal with leg and terrible back pain. I was taking Vicodin, and if I didn't get ahead of my pain, I ended up using as many as 8 a day. All of the acetaminophen was damaging my liver. When I switched insurance companies, I had a regular doctor and a new pain management doctor, who told me that the OxyContin was a better medicine for chronic pain because it does not have the ups and downs that Vicodin has, because Vicodin only lasts about 4 hours. I used the medicine for many years. I now use the Fentanyl patch with great results!"

"Both meds OxyContin and Roxicodone are some of the best pain meds on the market-HANDS DOWN! I've been on as much as two 80 mg OxyContin and six Roxi 30s a day and was on that regimen for 8 years. I have had 5 back surgeries and have rods from the bottom of my neck to the top of my ass. I have all kinds of nerve damage in my left leg and feet and cramp something awful if I don't take meds. I took all that medicine with 3 Soma daily, 3 Xanax bars daily, 100 mg Zoloft daily, Neurontin 900 mg daily, and as I said to start, both of those pain meds are highly recommended and trust me, I have the experience, lol."

"I've been on OxyContin for 8 months. I take it to help with RSD pain in my shoulder that radiates all down my arm and into my hand. I have trouble taking high doses of nerve medications like gabapentin, so a narcotic is necessary. It definitely helps a lot. However, it does not last 12 hours. I have oxycodone for breakthrough pain. I also have tried taking 3 doses of OxyContin a day (per doctor's orders) and that keeps it from running out. The problem with a triple dose is drowsiness; I started to have trouble tolerating that. But overall, this has been a lifesaver for me."

"I have been on OxyContin since 2003 on a daily basis. I have chronic abdominal discomfort because I had my large intestine removed due to chronic ulcerative colitis. I also have had degenerative disc disease since 1998. I've had to have my right hip replaced due to an injury in 2008, and I have chronic sciatic nerve pain in my left hip that runs down to my foot. I found this drug to be more effective than any rehabilitation or needle injection that I've ever had. I have tried many different treatments like injections and physical rehab, but I get the best pain relief from taking 3 - 60 mg OxyContin every 8 hours and 10 mg oxycodone IR pills every 4 to 6 hours daily for increased pain and discomfort. The bad part is I lost most of my teeth."

"This is still a life-saving drug. OxyContin 40 mg 3X day and 10 mg IR oxycodone IR for instant relief. Been on it for over 24 years. Allows me to function in public and have some kind of life. Now Medicare makes it near impossible to afford it. Cut back to 20 mg 3X 10 mg IR and still hurting. Never abused it and was drug tested regularly. Now with no generic, only rich people can afford the best in pain management. Why do they always focus on the abusers? This is only by a doctor prescription. Blame the abusers, not punish the poor hurting people. Typical government, if it works, make sure poor people cannot afford it."

"Initially, it was beneficial in easing my chronic pain until I had a recent back operation. Now I am being brought down from a dosage of 120 mg per day and now down to 25 mg per day. Coming off it has been particularly stressful coping with the withdrawal factor, but I have recognized the withdrawal symptoms and am learning to cope with them on a daily basis with the help of my GP, who has also become my counselor and is helping me with this painful regression of dosage. It has been a period of 4 months so far, and I am hopeful of being totally free of the medicine within that same time frame. Although it helped me to get through the pain until the operation, it has been a very painful process of withdrawal. If possible, an alternative medication would be advisable."

"Fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, arthritis, ileostomy to name a few. 10 mg slow release morning and night and 15 mg 4 times a day of immediate release. I also take other meds. My tiredness is caused by my condition, but life has been more bearable. Sadly, there is no cure, but I have some relief and can do small things like short trips on a mobility scooter."

"I've been on OxyContin for 6 years now. Of course, my PM doc gave me the lowest dose and worked up from there. I am at the maximum amount they will give me, which is 80mg 3 times a day, plus Oxy IR 30mg 3 times a day, and Soma 350mg 3 times a day. It may seem like a lot, but over the years my body developed a tolerance to this medicine. Now I have been on this same dose for 3 years, and it is perfect. No need to take anymore. The bad thing is the DEA inspected my doc's office and asked him to switch all of his patients off of OxyContin to morphine. So now I am on morphine. I am finding that it does not work as well as the OxyContin."
