For Bipolar Disorder "Love oxcarbazepine, I have bipolar 2, and I've tried a variety of different meds, and this is the only thing that has me feeling any kind of normal. Some meds make it worse, some reduce symptoms but also make me flat and not me anymore. Cannot say enough good things about this - it's amazing. If you're looking for the right med for you, and you haven't done the gene interaction test, please ask your doc! Blood test that can tell which meds are most likely to work for you, which ones will be meh and which ones are bad news (and why!). All this brain chemistry stuff is different for everyone. There are drugs that people swear by have pushed me off the deep end (looking at you, zoloft...), but stuff that works for me messes other people up. Get the test!"

For Bipolar Disorder "I was diagnosed bipolar in my early twenties. I have been on numerous medications for bipolar but none of them quite did it for me. I quit treating my mental illness with medication out of frustration and anger. My life took a detour through the darkest shades of life I’ve ever seen. Now in my mid forties I’ve come to terms that I can’t leave my bipolar in limbo. So I sought help and my doctor put me on Triliptal and I truly feel like life’s finally going to be filled with joy and sunshine again. Best wishes..."

Trileptal (oxcarbazepine) for Bipolar Disorder "I've been on Depakote, Lithium and now Trileptal. Trileptal has given me absolutely no side effects, no weight gain and it controls my mood. I was bumping into walls, throwing up, feeling like I was high and eating everything in sight on Depakote. I gained so much weight. On Lithium, I did well, but couldn't deal with the gastrointestinal issues, as well as urinating every other hour, and being thirsty all the time. Nothing quenched my thirst. This medicine is like taking a vitamin and it has stabilized my moods for almost 5 years now."

For Anxiety "I used Trileptal for anxiety and had to stop it because I got to where I couldn’t remember ANYTHING, not even the next word I was trying to say to form a sentence. My whole thought process had become nonexistent! My boyfriend said that he noticed a change in me about 8-9 months ago and saw me go from being anxious to someone that was just a slug that couldn’t form a sentence or hold a conversation that made sense. I had asked my psychiatrist about it, but she didn’t say or do anything. She just recently passed away from a recurring illness and the psychiatrist that filled her spot took me off of it and it’s been a day and a half and I feel like I “woke up” and I’m alive and can just hear and see better, like I was living in a huge brain fog it seems. I feel like a normal person again and am working on regaining my thoughts!"

For Anxiety "My main issue was facing depression for years and took several antidepressants in the past. I don't have bipolar, but my psychiatrist decided to try a mood stabilizer for the first time since antidepressants weren't working and since I tried to commit suicide for the 2nd time a few months back. Trileptal has completely took away my depression. Even when I hit a bump in the road, I'm not even close to the person I was a few months ago. I'm able to work 6 days a week, have more energy, and my thoughts of suicide are no longer present. Having a BA in psychology I want to add that meds are not a "cure", but sometimes it is better than wanting to take your life and at least be an aid to help you get back on track."

For Anxiety "I suffer from Chronic Depression and High Anxiety all my life. Other medications work but I am so out of touch with reality I choose not to take them.. I started a 300mg twice a day dose of Oxcarbazepine with 50mg of Pristiq. I have only been taking this for two weeks but so far everything is great... I am experiencing what its like to be “Normal”... A feeling I have rarely experienced so it feels a little abnormal. Life is much better now.... the best I have ever felt.. I hope it works for years to come"

For Anxiety "Amazing effects on my borderline paranoid rage. Ask for a low dose if you're trying it! Doctors prescribe this at 600-1200 mg regularly, from what I understand, but my out-of-control rage is well-controlled on 300-450 mg daily and I don't get any of the crazy side effects people complain of. I don't understand why doctors are so eager to dump unnecessary amounts into people. What could be helpful becomes too difficult to deal with because of side effects. I've been on this medicine before and it works amazingly. I never should have gone off it, but I mistakenly thought I had better control now. This medicine changed my life."

Trileptal (oxcarbazepine) "Have tried and failed literally 10 other medications. I thought my options in the future were either ECT, experimenting with psychedelics, or suicide. Tried this as a Hail Mary with my therapist and oh..my..god. Normalcy for the first time in 6 years. I was dealing with severe mood swings and anxiety (my OCD symptoms I think are from such a high general angst), that I was ready to give up. Within 5 days of this I wasn't feeling much- therapist said give it a few more days and then up the dose if still nothing. I gave it a few more days and all the sudden they just kept getting better. I can't say enough good things. It was like setting me back to the person I was before I got sick overnight. If you're thinking of trying this, please do. I have zero side effects thus far. I am making sure to drink a glass or two of salt water daily also as I'm a sweater and trying to offset the low sodium."

For Bipolar Disorder "This medicine is a godsend. I was previously taking Depakote & Seroquel & got so sick & tired of my previous dr not listening to my concern of feeling like a zombie all day & trying to nod off during the day. Once I changed dr's, my current dr heard my concerns & introduced me to Trileptal. By far this is the BEST I've been doing since my correct diagnosis in 2009! I couldn't be happier w/my current progress, both not feeling like a zombie, but now also being able to thoroughly enjoy life with my first child I had in Oct 2015. I feel both the most leveled out I've felt in quite some time, but also without the awful effect of feeling 'drugged up' per say & actually feel regular human emotion, haha. I'd totally recommend this script!"

For Neuropathic Pain "I’ve tried many prescriptions for foot neuropathy with hardly any relief. Neither Lyrica nor a very high dose gabepentin worked. Oxcarbazepine does work for neuropathic pain!! I’ve been on 150mgX3 daily for over a year and it given me relief like I haven’t had in years!"

For Bipolar Disorder "My file says I have post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), bipolar, borderline personality disorder, severe depression and anxiety and some other crap. I don't completely agree with my file but I do know that I was completely miserable all my life until being on Trileptal for a while then adding Abilify to the mix. I've tried countless psyche medicines and none of them were a good experience until Trileptal. Trileptal worked so good for me that after a while I thought I was "cured", so I stopped taking it. Once it wore off I realized the hard way that Trileptal is like a miracle for me and I can not live without it. If it doesn't work for you, remember to keep trying until you find something that does; it took more than 10 years trial and error to find what works for me."

For Bipolar Disorder "I was diagnosed with bipolar 14 years ago. The first medicine they gave me was depakote which made my hair fall out. Then they put me on lithium which I have been on for 14 years and whenever I would try to go off it I would get manic really bad so I have had to stay on it. Well I recently weaned myself off lithium due to weight gain and hair thinning out. My doctor then prescribed trilyptal. I have been on it for two days and I already feel 100 percent better. I feel stabilized and in a very very good mood. It's like a happy pill so far. I am very happy."

Trileptal (oxcarbazepine) for Bipolar Disorder "I have taken this medicine for about six months now. It has been such a life changer for me! I was on depakote as a mood stabilizer for my not terribly severe bipolar disorder. Depakote caused weight gain. Since I have been on Trileptal, I have lost 30lbs and feel great. I am just about to start my student teaching in college and I am more confident than ever that I will succeed with flying colors."

Trileptal (oxcarbazepine) for Seizures "I have been on Trileptal for about a month now. I'm taking 300 mg twice a day. I had an abnormal EEG and diagnosed with right-sided temporal lobe epilepsy. I started having pain 5 yrs ago -intense, daily pain in my right eye and eventually extended further up on the right side of my head (which is related to the epilepsy). I was also suffering from repeated inappropriate thoughts (of sexual nature) very disturbing and disrupted my life. I have since found out that OCD behavior very frequently accompanies temporal lobe epilepsy. Trileptal has stopped the partial sz and inappropriate thoughts. Indocin 25 mg is controlling the pain. Hope this helps others."

For Bipolar Disorder "Tried a few mood stabilizers this year. Lamictal made me severely agitated and couldn't sleep a wink. Zyprexa turned me into the Cookie Monster and made me put on weight very fast. Put on this and have had great results. I don't get upset like I used to, and the racing thoughts have diminished greatly along with the anxiety."

For Trigeminal Neuralgia "My girlfriend has been on oxcarbazepine for about 8 months and she has been hospitalized for low sodium three times before they figured out that oxcarbazepine was causing it. This is a very serious condition. I'm glad it works for some people but be careful. It worked for her except for the side effects, unfortunately."

Trileptal (oxcarbazepine) for Seizures "I had my first seizure at the age of 20, I am healthy otherwise. I was diagnosed with a typeof seizure caused by a small Heterotopia and put on 600 mg of Trileptal twice daily. I was seizure free for 15 years until 3 days ago. The only side effect was weight gain. I see my neurologist tomorrow and am anticipating an increase in dose. I would highly recommend this medicine to anyone doing research."

For Bipolar Disorder "Incredible stuff. I have severe panic disorder and bipolar disorder. Before I took it, I was getting worse and worse, hallucinating and not being able to chill out. I started on 600mg once a day. I clearly remember when I started it. It felt like I was surrounded by pillows when I moved around, in a good way. I feel "normal" now (no pillows, I promise!). I had a crazy rash that caused me to need prednisone, but I'm on Lamictal/Lexapro/Trileptal, so who knows what caused it! I'm at 600mg/3x a day, so 1800 total. I have to take it at 8am / 1pm / 8pm on the dot or I feel like I'm losing it again. I wish there was something that would cover the entire day, but it's worth the trouble."

For Bipolar Disorder "At 300mg oxcarbazepine daily, my racing thoughts from bipolar have calmed down and I feel normal for the first time in my life. My anxiety is gone or nearly so. I have BP2 and panic attacks. I also take Ativan although it seems that I need less of it with Oxcarbazepine. I feel a little sedated but hope this goes away in the coming weeks. This is the first medicine that has helped at all. I am surprised and thankful."

For Trigeminal Neuralgia "I have been on this drug for 7 years. It is the only medication that works for the intense pain. I am on a very strong dose. 1200 mg 3 x daily and even taking this dose I still have some break through pain (spring and fall). The only side effect I dont like is getting tired. However, I would rather that than the pain."

For Anxiety "I have RRMS. In April I had another brain MRI. The results indicated a new brain lesion on my brain. 2 EEGs were also administered. My neurologist stated I was not experiencing vertigo, but possibly having seizures, convulsions or fainting spells. I was placed on Oxcarbazepine, 300x 2 a day. I am now experiencing extreme anxiety. My neurologist first thought the anxiety stemmed from the steroids and it would go away. It hasn't and it has only gotten worst. He now states it is my MS. I am using cannabis for the anxiety. Sometimes it helps and other times it does not. The neurologist prescribed low dosage (2mgs) of valium. I've taken it, on and off, yet sometimes it is not effective. I am concerned about addiction to Valium. I am forgetting things. I have tingling, numbness and feeling hot inside of my body. I went from being a very independent active person to doing very little. Is anyone else experiencing extreme anxiety due to Oxcarbazepine?"
