Opium for Diarrhea "Since age 10, I suffered with bowel problems. Ten years ago, I lost 60+ lbs in two months. I was emaciated and felt horrible, plus not ever being able to leave home. A few years ago, my doctor held my hand and said, 'I'm putting you on Opium Deodorized. I take 0.06cc twice a day, sometimes 3 times a day, when it rears its ugly head.' The doctor explained everything to me. Within a week, I was able to leave my home for the first time in 6 months. This has been a blessing to me. I got my life back and was even able to go to Aspen for a week in October. I'm eternally grateful for this medication. I've had no interactions with other drugs I take."

For Diarrhea "Beware. Opium helped alleviate my chronic diarrhea - I have a j-pouch. Then I turned 65, went on Medicare, and was promptly informed by Medicare that the FDA does not consider opium to be an effective treatment for chronic diarrhea, and thus will not cover it in its Rx plan. That, of course, is nonsense; the decision by the FDA was simply politics. At any rate, I had to drop my opium Rx because of the cost. Now I'm on morphine. It doesn't work as well, but I have no choice."

Opium "As a child, my mother always gave me Paregoric for my extreme cramping. It never failed to work almost instantaneously! I never experienced any problems from taking it, and this was a life saver for me! Why it was taken off the market was beyond me! Paregoric was truly a blessing for cramping!"

Opium for Diarrhea "Have tried all else. Works fast. Tastes horrible! Was the active ingredient in paregoric."

Opium "I'm in my early 60s. As a child, we always had Paregoric. It was prescribed for nausea. I've had nausea issues all my life. Mom would mix a small amount of Paregoric in Coca-Cola. It tasted really good. Too bad it's so difficult to get now. I miss having it, cured nausea, upset stomach quickly."
