For Pain "I'm 34 yrs old, military for 10 years as a grunt so automatically pain in every joint possible. I've also had two serious incidents in combat and two vehicle accidents in the states. I have been on everything I think, no help so far and recently 3 months ago put on stepped into nortriptolyne 50 mg along with gabapentin. I must say I'm a bit better as I'm not on bed rest as I used to not be able to get up. I have also been forced to carry a Tens unit which helps with spasms along with Robaxin and at times have to take Norco when it gets bad. I'm hoping for the best and hoping to just be on one pill or none soon. Oh, and therapy weekly. So far I can only say : I think nortriptyline helps."

For Migraine Prevention "I've been on this for a month or so at 25mg a day and it has reduced my headaches down from one every day with a migraine once a week to about a headache a week and I haven't had a migraine yet. When I take this I have noticed that I sleep better. I also have dry mouth with this unfortunately but it is nothing compared to having daily headaches. (18 years old, female, migraines since age 4)."

For Migraine Prevention "Since being on Allegron 35mg now (Nortriptyline in the UK), I started on 10mg, my migraines and even headaches has massively subsided. In the past 4 months I’ve only had 2 migraines. Previously to taking this medication I was have anywhere between 5-6 migraines a month, some months I was have 2-3 every week. For Depression "After some serious life events I became depressed - while I didn't truly realize it - my house became overly cluttered, work went from great to average, got behind on things... after attempts at Lexapro, we figured out that I was having a reaction to the Lexapro - We started on nortriptyline. The first winter I worked up to 75mg/day - then went off for a few months during the summer - this year I've worked from 25mg then to 50mg/day. It's amazing how much better I'm performing. I do have issues with the drowsiness but I try to work through that. Work is now improving after about 14 months of treatment and the home is slowly getting better."

For Irritable Bowel Syndrome "Had stomach pain for years. When I ate, my stomach would hurt for hours. When it finally calmed down, it was time to eat again. Went to a gastroenterologist. Had a colonoscopy, endoscopy and biopsies. Everything looked all right. Was having awful pain one day and called my gastro doctor for an appt. He could not see me for weeks, but I was told his nurse could. I was hesitant, but did go in & see her the next day. She prescribed 10 mg. Pamelor at bedtime (name brand for nortriptyline). She said it was an antidepressant, but had been found to help many issues. After taking for 3 nights, I felt like a new person. When I went back for followup, I hugged my nurse and said, "You gave me back my life.""

For Pain "I have Radiculopathy (cervical and thoracic spine) and was prescribed nortriptyline for acute flare of disc/nerve pain due to bulging discs. As a doctor myself I was cynical that tricyclics can be used for ACUTE pain (general consensus is chronic pain and long term use) but my GP insisted I could take it acutely and stop abruptly afterwards. I have found it to be superb for the pain relief; first dose was first time I slept through the night (previously was woken by pain at 4/5am). Due to it's very long half life, it seems to continue working until late afternoon the next day when I feel the pain return. Within 2 weeks of taking it I have been able to make my first gym visit in 6 months. The only downside I have noticed is when I feel acute flare is over and stop taking it, I feel low in mood/depressed. I also find myself awake at 2am (not from pain or anxiety, just not tired). So I do worry about becoming dependent on them for sleep and having low mood as a withdrawal effect. For the pain itself thought, I absolutely rate it."

For Irritable Bowel Syndrome "I suffered with Irritable Bowel Syndrome for over 30 years beginning in my 30's after a severe gastrointestinal infection. I controlled it with OTC meds like Pepto-Bismol and Imodium. The condition worsened until I could no longer count on having a symptom free day and my diet was severely limited. My doctor recommended Nortriptyline and the lowest dose of 10 mg immediately worked. I now can eat a diet that includes fruits and vegetables I has been unable to eat for years. I did have one troubling side effect at first -rapid heart rate. I was taking a low dosage of a beta blocker for this condition prior to taking Nortriptyline. My doctor recommended increasing my beta blocked dosage, and the palpitations have discontinued. I am healthy and very active."

Yes dry mouth comes with it , try taking ACT lozenges it helps!"

Pamelor (nortriptyline) for Pain "Cycled off opiates after a severe multi-trauma accident onto a pamelor/amitryptilline combo. Worked very well. Definitely get yourself some eyedrops, though. Needed the brand name, because the generic gave me cardiac arrythmias. I am very impressed with this drug."

For Migraine Prevention "After being diagnosed with vestibular migraines about a year ago, I resisted taking any medications. The dizziness and feeling unwell caused depression as I was afraid to go anywhere and get a major dizzy spell that would make me also have symptoms of a stroke ( numb face and arm and difficulty speaking.) I started taking Nortrypraline and stopped after a few days as I was so tired and felt nauseated. My doctor told me to give it a go for a solid month and I'm so glad that I did. After about three weeks I started feeling so much better. Less episodes and when they came on, they were very mild. I'm only taking 10mg but plan to increase to 20 to see if even more benefits are seen once I get the ok from my doctor."

For Pain "I have had acute neurological (atypical) pain for 10 weeks, the GP put me on Nortriptyline which I am not sure whether it helped the pain or not, but it turned me into a zombie capable of sleeping all day and all night. It was nice at first but became a bit of a hassle in the end. so I have started to wean myself off it."

For Pain "I've had a lot of pains over the past few years due to computer-centric lifestyle. My rear shoulder/shoulder blade pain started to become unmanageable with my Lyrica+Tramadol. Most of my pains are a nervy/burning. I decided to try Nortriptyline. Started with 10mg and worked up to 100mg after months (started working at 25mg). Saved my life at that time when I was miserable. It wasn't 100%, and had a bunch of mild side effects, but made things manageable. Side effects: weight gain (huge appetite), urinary retention, dry nose/mouth, some drowsiness (bad at first, but got better), reduced motor control (jerks), orthostatic hypotension. Trying to stop to see if pain comes back, and so far so good (side effects have reduced -- esp. appetite)."

For Pain "I was given nortriptyline by a pain doctor 7 years ago. It did help somewhat with the pain. However the side effects have been giving me problems ever since. I have problems concentrating but worse than that I daydream constantly. I can't shut it off. It lasts for hours. It is like it turned on a daydreaming switch in my brain and I can't shut it off. I went off of it expecting it to stop. It never has. It gets more unmanageable. I do not know what to do."

For Migraine Prevention "I have suffered from migraine since I was 3 years old ( I am 58 now), and I only get a few a year. Then in 2002 my migraines went from bad to worse, I average about 4 a week. I have tried so many meds and combination of meds and they made the migraines more tolerable for awhile. I even tried Botox. I saw a new neurologist on April 4/13, and he asked me to try nortriptyline 10mg at bedtime, increasing to 20mg after a week. I have had only 2 migraines since Apr 4, and the pain is mild to moderate. I am hoping for more improvement. So far no side effects at all."

For Pain "I started taking this medication after neck surgery c5-c6 this helped me with sleep and functional throughout the day. I went off after i was back to normal. Just recently i had to go back on cause i now have a buldging disc at c4-c5. Without this i could not do my job. The pain is tolerable and still have numb fingers. I do think it is a good medication to try and see if it works for ur nerve pain."

For Depression "I have been taking this for 2 years now and have found it helpful in a few ways it has stopped my panic attacks for the most part, get a few here and there. My over thinking has stopped all together. The only thing I don't like about this medicine is that I have to be asleep in 30 mins after taking it or I will be up all night, for some reason it causes my brain to become very active after 30 mins. When I do go to sleep I have very vivid dreams seems almost realistic."

For Irritable Bowel Syndrome "I was having bad pain and discomfort in my abdominal area and testicle. This went on for 5 months. I saw several doctors and had an MRI, ultrasound, blood tests you name it I had it. Finally, after doing my own research I asked my doctor to put me on 10mg . After about 3 days I started to notice a difference and after a week about 95% of my pain was gone. This med worked wonders for me and saved my life! I went from only being able to eat plain chicken, potatoes and spinach to being able to eat anything I want. I have been on this med for about 2 months now. I do not have any side effects to speak of . Everyone is different and your results may vary. Give it a try but try and stay at 10mg if taking for pain."

For Neuralgia "For the last 10 years my fibromyalgia has has gone down hill. This medicine has given me some of my life back. I had horrible pain in my neck and back, fatigue, not sleeping, migraines, nervous stomach, and several other problems. I was ran though a battery of tests and no one could figure out why I was having all these problems and finally a DR said it sounded like Fibromyalgia. I was put on a small dose of nortiptyline (20MG) and within a week I was feeling somewhat better and within 2 weeks I felt almost normal again. This medicine has changed my life. I can finally do the things I used to do. I still get migraines and sometimes feel icky again but its not very often. I do get dry mouth a lot but I can deal with that over feeling like crap."

For Pain "This medication has greatly improved my quality of life! I have chronic tension headaches, everyday and all day, unless I take 25 mg of my Pamelar. I take it every night (because it does make me sleepy) and If I forget my headaches start right back up around 3pm the next day. One downfall is that I seem to craves snacks much more since I've been on this drug. I'll take that side-effect over chronic headache."

For Pain "Twice I was prescribed this medication as an alternative to real pain medication because Doctors are so badly in fear of the DEA because of the so called "opiate crisis" I have two crushed discs in my back. I received this medication years apart and both times within the first month I noticed sexual dysfunction which grew worse. I quit the medication the first time and gradually things returned to normal. The second and most recent time I noticed a problem and quit the medication, but it was too late, things have never returned to normal. By sexual dysfunction I mean inability to achieve and maintain an erection, and shrinkage in size of genitalia. I can't believe that this problem is not reported by other people, unless they are embarrassed to do so."

For Neuralgia "I have been taking this for Idiopathic Small Fiber Sensory Neuropathy. Experienced chronic nerve and muscle pain shortly after a flu-like illness. Was diagnosed with late state neurological Lyme Disease by a naturopathic doctor. Neurologist disagreed and diagnosed me with idiopathic small fiber sensory neuropathy. After several MRIs, blood tests, antibiotics, muscle relaxers, gabapentin, a nerve conduction study, a spinal tap, acupuncture and massage therapy sessions, this medicine has helped the most and with the least amount of side effects. Started at 10mg and slowly increased to 60mg over a six week period. At 60mg into my eighth week, I sometimes feel underlying neuropathy. But I can function nearly as well as before the onset of all these problems. So far, so good."

For Pain "After trying Tramadol, Oxycodone and Neurontin, I tried Nortriptyline for chronic back pain due to a herniated disc. Unfortunately, after only a couple of days on the drug, I had to quit. It made me extremely dizzy and caused my blood pressure to drop so quickly, that I nearly passed out while taking a vigorous walk. "

For Migraine Prevention "My doctor prescribed me a 25mg dose of Nortriptyline after having severe migraines every week since the 8th grade. 7 years later, I am finally able to go to work and not worry about vomiting from my head aches. I’ve been on it about 2 years and I’m not sure if my memory was this terrible before, but I’d say the pros outweigh the cons. Also topamax worked for me as well but caused me to have severe anger issues."
