For Pain "I had a car accident two and a half years ago. It damaged my shoulder and gave me severe back pain. Last year I eventually had an operation to resolve the problem of a chipped bone and a release but it did not help me with the constant stabbing pain which I was told was my nerve and tendons being in a knot. After numerous attempts through physiotherapy, massages, pain killers and injections, none of them worked until I was prescribed nortriptyline. What a difference, I am hardly in any pain now and feel much better."

For Migraine Prevention "After 10 years of migraines, it took a village to get rid of them. I tried everything! The 11th neurologist was the charm. She got me off the Zomig which were giving me rebound headaches and started me on Nortriptyline, 50mg at night. No more migraines! Seriously! I haven’t had one in 4 years now."

For Pain "I have suffered with Fibromyaliga for nearly 25 years. This is the only medication that helped with my pain; helped with sleep and did not make me feel "dopey" all day. I can't say it will work for everyone, but it has helped me. I have been on it for 20 years. I take 50Mg at night about an hour before bed. When there are weather changes coming through, my pain gets worse, I take 60Mg."

For Pain "I have been on this medication now for 6 months for nerve pain and tingling down my leg from a trapped nerve in my back. 10 mg at night along with other Paracetamol and Ibuprofen certainly does relieve the pain. I was told to increase the Nortriptyline as required to 20 mg at night if necessary but so far I have not had to do that. Side effects have been virtually non existent against the benefit of it."

For Pain "After 6 months of constant agony due to four herniated discs in my neck my doctor finally got it right. The started packet started me out on one pill a night and could have gone as far as five. Happily two have done the trick. I am so relieved. I was beginning to think I'd never feel pain free again. It is a miracle."

For Pain "I am currently 16 y/o & have been taking nortriptyline for about 6 years to treat migraines. I have been getting migraines since I was 8 or 9 and it eventually got to the point where migraines were a daily thing for me. After seeing a neurologist & trying out 2 or 3 other perscriptions, my neurologist prescribed nortriptyline. It worked for a while then my dosage needed to be increased, however I still take it to this day, once before bed every single night. The only time I get a migraine now is if I'm sick, skip two or more doses, or encounter a trigger, such as prolonged sun exposure, dehydration, large caffeine amounts, etc."

For Migraine Prevention "I just turned 40 and have suffered from migraines with aura with increasing frequency and severity since I was 16. In March 2014 I was up to 18 migraines in 22 days. My doctor took me off all the Triptans I was taking and never ever worked, to my great relief! At first I tried a blood pressure med but after 2 weeks of horrible side effects (horrible depression, weight gain, insomnia) my GP put me on Nortriptyline. I have been on it for 4 weeks. We started with 10 mg at night. I noticed that the pain from my migraines and frequency reduced by about 50% and Advil liquid gels were able to take the pain away. I have now been bumped up to 20 mg. I haven't noticed dry mouth, but I did notice my eyes get dry. I sleep really well. no other effects."

For Migraine Prevention "My headaches were non stop for about 3 years. The cause was my neck. I had already had neck surgery about 8 years before. So, I was told they said i was not a candidate for surgery anymore. So I tried cortizone shots, and some other shots and nothing. Then the doctor came up with nortriptyline 10 mg a dose of 2 pills a night. Well, by the third night I slept like a baby. Before, since my headaches were NON STOP, it meant I could not sleep at all! After a week, I had no headaches and I could finally sleep!"

Pamelor (nortriptyline) for Pain "I have calf pain (mainly when sitting) due to small fiber neuropathy. I tried Neurontin, Lyrica, Cymbalta...without any luck. Tramadol provided limited relief, but not nearly enough. Finally I tried Pamelor and after a few weeks the calf pain started to dissipate. I take 100mg/day and the side effects have been pretty mild. The drowsiness tapered off after a few days, but the dry mouth and constipation go with the territory. I get occasional tinnitus as well."

For Migraine Prevention "10 mg at night for chronic tension headaches. The first few days were horrible: extremely fatigued, grumpy, felt like a really bad hangover. But by the fourth or fifth day, all of that was gone, and my headaches went too. I'm glad I stuck it out, because I had had headaches that interfered with my daily life. It made me very drowsy at first, and still does act as a bit of a sedative, so I only take it if I plan to sleep very soon. Also, it really lowered my alcohol tolerance, so watch out for that."

For Pain "Have suffered with back pain for 22 yrs. I'm 60 yrs old now. Started taking nortriptyline 4 days ago. While I know that's not very long I can say back pain is much better. Depression is much better. Overall feeling is much better. Sleeping better and longer. I have noticed some drowsiness but not a lot. I hope things continue in the direction I'm currently headed. Good luck!"

For Migraine Prevention "I have been taking nortriptyline to help stop getting migraines, been on it for about 6 months now and it has completely changed my life. I used to get migraines 3-5 times a week and they were unbearable. I do still get migraines but maybe only a handful of times a month. I also take it for anxiety and it has seemed to help quite a bit with that too."

For Pain "I suffered severe depression for more than 10 years. I have been recently diagnosed with Fibromuscular dysplasia (one of the effects of this condition is terrible migraines, lightheartedness, insomnia and dizziness) I was unable to function on a daily basis, feeling sleepy at work and miserable. I could not thank enough to my neurologist. He stopped me taking any other antidepressant and put me into this drug...After 15 days I can notice the difference...I am not sleepy during the day, I am able to function, headaches are gone and I am able to sleep straight for 7-8 hours. My doctor told me though that this medication will make me gain weight. I prevent this eating healthier and trying to exercise 3 times a week and it's working"

For Depression "I'm 61 yrs old and have been taking Nortriptyline for about 30 years for depression. I believe I was depressed most of my life before being diagnosed. Initially, it took about 4 weeks before I started feeling the effects of the drug, but once it kicked in it made all the difference in the world. After many years, my doctor had me try some of the newer SSRI drugs (while still on Nortriptyline) and with each one I didn't feel at all like myself (like I was watching my life from outside myself), so with each attempt at trying a new drug, I kept going back to what worked best. Nortriptyline. I guess I'd consider myself a poster child for the drug, because it's always given me a level mood and I've never experienced deep depression while on it."

For Irritable Bowel Syndrome "After years of suffering with IBS-(D), I ended up seeing a brand new doctor at the Polyclinic. He started off treatment by eliminating all of the scary stuff- I had an endoscopy, colonoscopy, gastric emptying study, blood work, etc. When all results came back normal, he decided to treat the IBS symptoms with Nortriptyline (25 mg per night) and the low fodmap diet. I am thrilled to say that my symptoms have finally subsided, at least enough to where I can live my life and eat comfortably. Although I wouldn’t say I’m completely symptom free, I feel significantly better. I’m not sure if it was this medicine or the low fodmap diet that worked best, however I will continue to do both and slowly add foods back in. Definitely try this out if it is recommended for you! This is coming from someone who suffered for 6+ years and has tried every diet, supplement, and medication known to man."

For Pain "I take Nortriptyline 30 mg at bedtime for facial nerve pain brought on by shingles, Post Herpetic Neuralgia. The medication helps to stop itching, gnawing pain and electrical firing. The one drawback for me is the constant obsession with food, mostly carbohydrates. I've gained weight and have negative sexual side effects, but hey, I'm not in pain. It would be nice if there was another medication that worked as well as this medication for the pain, but doesn't have the side-effects."

For Pain "I'm being treated with nortriptyline for abdominal wall pain due to having irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) for almost 40 years now. I still have pain in other areas but this does the trick for the abdominal pain, which is like the pain you get in your side after you've been running for a long time. It wasn't just a stabbing pain, though, it came, it stayed and wouldn't go away. I only take 10mg and my prescription says to increase as necessary, but I've been on it successfully for over a year now. I stopped it once with the ok of the doctor but within three weeks the pain returned, so I started back up on it. I do have the dry mouth and sometimes restless sleep but I can handle that...I couldn't handle the abdominal pain..this worked!"

For Depression "This medication saved my life. I originally tried amitriptyline.. I felt tired and still didn’t fully rid the black cloud over me. I tried this on the recommendation from a neurologist. Best decision I ever made. I am now the person I used to be before I became depressed... I am so thankful for this medication. 50 milligrams a night is my dose. Forever thankful I tried this medication:)"

For Pain "Was diagnosed with somatic pain. Prescribed 10mg nortriptyline to start. Took one pill and it made me feel like I could jump off a building and fly. When I laid down it felt like I was floating. Went to sleep, woke up feeling like a zombie, very depressed, could barely lift my arms. It has been three days and I still feel spaced out. "

For Panic Disorder "Have had GAD (Anxiety, sometime severe) on and off for about 12 years. I'm a 58 year old Male in excellent health, otherwise. Nortriptyline was the 7th Med prescribed (after Lexapro, Beta Blockers, Zoloft, etc.) and for me it was radically better than all the other Meds. Tried to take at night but was too activating. Started taking 10 mg in the AM and another 10 mg in the afternoon (if needed). Completely controlled my Anxiety, gave me more energy, improved sex drive, and cleared-up both Acne & Rosacea. EXCELLENT Drug...worth a try. Due to the low dose, I had none of the typical side effects (dry mouth, etc.)"

For Pain "I had a car accident two years ago and the back, neck and leg pain crippled me untill I tried nortriptyline. I am pain free and take 50mg which I build up too. After 6 weeks the only down side is I cannot drink alcohol but a small price to pay and if I try to reduce them I go back to the same conditions I had before taking them. I take it at night and actually sleep for 6 hours straight pain free which I could not do before. This medicine has given me back my life."

Pamelor (nortriptyline) for Migraine Prevention "I had taken almost everything for migraines and came up with a combination of Topamax and Elavil. I work in intensive care and started having memory problems. I also started sleeping almost constantly. I scheduled an appointment with the neurologist at my hospital and started on nortriptyline. This is the first time I've had total control. I'm not sleepy and I have more of my old self back. It feels good not to have any pain."

For Depression "This was super-effective for both severe treatment resistant depression, anxiety, chronic vestibular migraines, panic attacks and even helped a bit with social anxiety and OCD. Never had such remarkable effects from any other drug before, even with SSRIs/SNRIs(which made depression worse) and MAOIs. I started feeling better the very first day and within a few days I had old emotions back that I hadn't experienced in years. Unfortunately I developed a drug allergy to this drug, but it is not the drug's fault but my immune system. The drug still gets a 10/10, and I will be trying another TCA soon hoping it works just as well! Also don't worry about the anticholinergic effects of this medicine/other TCAs the anticholinergic side-effects of this medicine can actually be of benefit in treating your depression and should rather be called "effects" than "side-effects" and embraced and accepted as being potentially positive."

For Migraine Prevention "2 or 3 weeks in with 25mg Nortriptyline at bedtime. Migraines seem reduced, but it has had an unbearable effect on my ACID REFLUX. As long as I eat healthy and avoid trigger foods, I do not take an acid reducer such as omeprazole, but I will need to take it if I continue the Nortriptyline. I tried this medicine about a year ago, but stopped taking because of heartburn. My doctor said it was not associated with heartburn, but now I have been taking for the 2nd time and gotten a huge flare-up of heartburn again. I am convinced that for me it is the medicine and not a coincidence now. "
