"I was put on this pill 3 months ago due to heavy bleeding. I had been bleeding since February. While on this pill, I still had heavy bleeding with clots. I stuck it out hoping it would work. Haven’t taken the medicine for 7 days now, and I'm still bleeding."

Norethindrone "My initial experience was terrible because I would not stop bleeding, and after I could not bear it anymore, I went to the doctor in tears and frustration, and she switched me to Slynd, which is a bit of a higher mg, and the bleeding stopped in about a week. Seems to be going better with the higher dosage of the progestin. Definitely check out Slynd if the bleeding is too persistent on Errin."

"I've been on almost every birth control other than Depo and the IUD since I was 15. Now 29. I got off BC around the age of 25. I started noticing that I was spotting between periods. Nothing major. Just very light pink. I never spotted between periods before. I also started having pain during sex. Went to the doc. One of the best gynos, she immediately said it was fibroids and maybe endo. She put me on 5 mg norethindrone. I take a half a pill every day. I had multiple large fibroids and a very large ovarian cyst. Had surgery in December to remove everything. Now I am great! Sex life is amazing, no emotional swings, no pain. Finally, on a birth control that agreed with me. Considering my doc said I have to be on it until I am ready to have kids to keep the fibroids away. I suggest to you ladies to maybe try a lower dose BC. It's been amazing for me. Hope my experience helped someone."

"I am 44/45 with uterine fibroids that caused severe anemia to the point of transfusions. I've been taking norethindrone for 2 months. My period the 1st month was longer and had some heavier bleeding. I went from bleeding for 5 days to 8 days. I bled through clothes within 3 hours a couple of times and had some random bleeding, but I chalked that up to breakthrough bleeding. I am careful about taking the pill at the same time every day. The 2nd month is when things got out of hand: it felt like this medication turned everything up several notches. The clots got bigger and more numerous. I had increased pain and bleeding to the point where I started canceling plans for fear of bleeding through my clothing or the pain. I finally had a random period of bleeding in the 2nd week that was like a full-on period but so much heavier. I was bleeding through my pad, panties, and pants in less than an hour. So many pads, laundry, and shame... not worth it."

"I bled for 4 weeks straight. The bleeding and blood clots got so heavy I had to wear Depends. I really wish my Dr. had listened to my previous experiences. The day after I discontinued use, the bleeding slowed and stopped."

"I have struggled with abnormal uterine bleeding for quite some time. Along with that came terrible mood swings that became debilitating. I tried several different combo pills, but it was too much for me; I felt too many negative side effects from it. So I wanted to try the “progesterone only” pill, and I am so glad I did. It took about until the 3rd week for the bleeding to completely stop, but I’m glad I stuck patient with it! The only side effects I get from it are mild stomach upset/nausea or a slight headache after taking it, which subsides quickly. I feel so much better! My moods have leveled out, my senses and drive are stronger. It’s been a great game changer for me! :)"

Norethindrone "I used to have the Mirena for 3 years, but during the 3rd year, I started having side effects, so I got the Lyza pill because I have migraines. I started in October 2016, and I'm always bleeding. I'll stop bleeding for a week and then start bleeding again. My cramps are worse, I get really depressed. I don't know what to do - I don't want kids right now. I'm married."

"I used this drug after surgery because of uncontrolled bleeding. I was going through a super tampon every 1 or 2 hours for 2.5 days. After taking 10 mg of norethindrone, my bleeding subsided in 8 hours and went back to a 'normal' period and has since completely stopped. If you take norethindrone long term, you may have breakthrough bleeding almost constantly. I had this happen after 3 months of 10 mg per day (as endo treatment), it cleared up about 2 weeks after I went off of the norethindrone and back on regular birth control. If you are having heavy or uncontrolled bleeding, I recommend giving norethindrone a try, it's supposed to work within 24 to 48 hours for heavy bleeding."

Norethindrone "I’ve been on this pill for 8 months, and I still bleed. Sometimes it’s 2 weeks, others, it’s 4 days of bleeding. I’m so over it! The doctor put me on this pill to stop my period... not working! A hysterectomy is in the future."

Norethindrone "Prescribed because fibroids and polyps (and probably pre-menopause) made the period flow unbearable. CONS: -If I don't take the pill at exactly the same time every day, I have 4 days of medium flow between cycles. Happened 3 times. Can't even be 20 minutes late or early. Felt like 3 periods in one month (every other week). -Cramps much worse than before. Still happen between cycles too. Often need Tylenol mid-sleep. -Clots huge unless I preemptively take Advil every few hours. -Breasts sensitive to the point of aching sometimes. -Period can be a week earlier or later than the previous one, so planning is impossible. PROS: -Actual period flow is slightly more manageable than before. -Spotting between cycles much less (sometimes not at all) unless I screw up my dose time. SUMMARY: If I take the pill on time with 100% accuracy, the period is slightly better. But my quality of life feels like it has declined due to the stress the side effects have added to it."

Norethindrone "I began taking Errin for a month, and I've had the worst experience ever with this birth control method. I have gained 20 pounds since taking it. There was spotting between my periods. I had extreme mood swings that were crazy ups and downs. I experienced headache, anxiety, and increased blood pressure. I don't recommend this b.c. to any woman who is thinking of trying the progestin-only pill. Yes, it is the mini pill, but I had a horrible experience. I will just deal with my adenomyosis and heavy periods w/o birth control. Never again!"

Norethindrone "The first year was fine, but now I'm constantly bleeding, have constant spots on my face, which I've never had. I have also gained a lot of weight inexplicably, which just makes me constantly think it's baby weight, which is not good at all! Better than the IUD by a long shot, though."

"I have been on this medication for about a year now to treat extremely heavy bleeding during my periods. Within the first month of taking it, it helped a lot to a point. While I wasn't having nearly as much bleeding, it lasted for 3 weeks straight. In the beginning, I was taking 2 x 5 mg tablets a day and was eventually dropped to 1 a day. After the change, I would go about every other month before I started having a period. Until recently, I went 5 full months without having anything, and now am on a 3-week stretch yet again. In those 5 months, there has been an increase in discharge, and my face has broken out horribly right around the time I normally would have a period."

"I am 36 years old. I was given norethindrone because I had been having spotting/bleeding for 4 weeks but haven't gotten an actual period in nearly 2 months. My doctor gave it to me to stop the bleeding so tests can be done on me. I started taking the drug 3 days ago. So far, the only side effect I noticed was a discoloration on my breasts. They aren't sore or painful, they just have a slight discoloration. It has pretty much stopped the bleeding, but I still have small amounts of brown discharge when wiping after using the bathroom. I rated it an 8 because it seems to be working. I'm hoping no other side effects show up later."

Norethindrone "Took this birth control for 1 1/2 months, and it was the absolute worst experience I’ve ever had. I was prescribed this medicine due to a cyst that kept rupturing and causing me lots of pain. I’ve already had 1 ovary removed due to this, but the doctors didn’t want to remove this one. I bled the entire 1 1/2 months with cramps so bad that I took pain meds daily. I couldn’t even walk straight, the pain was so bad. Halfway through, I started producing blood clots the size of golf balls. They were so big I could feel them sliding out when I stood up. Finally, I was switched to SLYND and instantly stopped bleeding. I wouldn’t recommend this pill to anyone. It was the most miserable month of my life."

"So glad I found this thread. I was rushed to the hospital after fainting on the street two weeks ago. My last two periods have been like a flood, so my hemoglobin dropped a lot. I got a blood transfusion and was prescribed norethindrone. But I've been on my period for two weeks now, even with fibroids, after 10 days or so, it would've ended by now. I think this pill is the cause of the prolonged bleeding. I'll check with my gyno visit this Wednesday. But, like some of you mentioned, I'm scared of having an IUD, and I just hate BC pills in general, there are too many side effects. I also had a myomectomy 2 years ago and am still having the same issues. I'm considering Lupron or embolization at this point. I want kids, but at this rate, my health is more important."

Norethindrone "I started taking this pill about six weeks ago. The first couple of weeks I had a bit of bleeding, but I think that was partly my fault, not taking it at exactly the same time each day, but since I have, all has been well. My boobs seem quite sensitive but larger, so I cannot complain. All in all, I cannot fault it, no spots, headaches, or noticeable weight gain as yet."

Norethindrone "I have been on the Lyza mini-pill for a year and a half now. If you are like me and are bleeding way more often than you're not, DO NOT listen to your doctor. I bleed for 3-5 weeks, and then I will get a week (maybe 2) if I'm lucky of no bleeding. I am constantly bloated and severely crampy. All I can do is lay with a heating pad to get some relief. And when I say bleeding... I mean HEAVY from start to finish. I use at least 3 super-sized tampons a day because I bleed through them. My doctor, however, says it's 'normal.' Idk what the hell their definition of normal is, but this is NOT it!"

Norethindrone "I hate this pill. I won't get pregnant because I won't stop bleeding to even have sex. This is a headache. I have been bleeding light to medium for about 2 weeks. This has been happening for a very long time. I'd be happy if I can go 5 days without blood. Don't take this pill if you can help it."

"Hated every moment of it!! Went to the doctor because of continuous abnormal bleeding from June 10 - August 8th, they prescribed me the norethindrone. I started it that day and have been bleeding nonstop for the past three weeks, with severe cramping and abdominal pain. Blood clots the size of my hand and lower back pain. There has been no break for me, and yesterday I had decided to stop the pill and feel remarkably better overnight."

Norethindrone "I wanted to use this pill, Heather, to try and minimize my period. All it did was make me feel extremely nauseated and couldn't poop ever, to where my stomach was cramping. It gave me the most awful acne I’ve ever had, and it took my period completely away, which wasn’t what I wanted. Being sexually active and not having a period is really awful for not knowing if you could be pregnant or not."

"This medicine makes me have long periods. I used to be able to use another birth control pill with estrogen that was awesome but then had a brain injury and was placed on this. I used to have severe heavy bleeding due to fibroids. With this medicine, I have periods for 2-3 weeks straight. I do not like it. It's not fun having a period for half the month. I think I'm going to stop taking it."

Norethindrone "Ok, so after giving birth in 2011 to my last child, I had a tubal ligation done via C-section. Two years after my surgery, I started having problems, so I coped with it for another six years. After that, I could not take it anymore, so I went to see my doctor because I was bleeding for more than 15 days. She administered the Depo shot, and I bled for approximately six and a half months. So, I stopped the Depo, and the doctor gave me a prescription for Errin birth control - worst day in my life. After three months in, I stopped taking the pill. Now, four months later, I’m still bleeding, and there are clots. At this point, I don’t know what to do. This whole ordeal has me super depressed."

Norethindrone "I have abnormal bleeding with heavy clots every day. I go for days, if not weeks or months, with spotting after an 8-day cycle. Back in December 2018, I got the Mirena IUD, and my body expelled it on the 29th day. I got it the second time, and again it came out by the 2nd week. My Dr. recommended Nora-Be, and after reading all these side effects, I decided not to even bother with it. So thank you to all of you because your comments do help."
