For Constipation, Drug Induced "This medicine Movantik works for my constipation in an hour or less. The side effects aren't that bad most days compared to the nightmare of constipation. The first time I took it I would say I was in really bad for about 6 hours. The next day I was hesitant but knew that side effects from medication do lessen with time. So, I took it again and was awful for 3 hours. I took it for a 3rd time and was able to go within the hour with a bearable amount of cramping. Some days I do have cramps but they are not the nightmare I started with. If for some reason I skip taking it for a few days I can have cramping and sweating, etc. so I try not to miss many. If constipation is ruining your life, this medicine can help. I recommend trying to get through the first few times, remembering that side effects can lessen when your body gets used to medicine. That is my experience. I hope everyone who reads this is able to get help also. Believe me, I know the nightmare you must be in if you are reading this."

For Opioid-Induced Constipation "Movantik is the worst experience I have ever had. Within 20 minutes of taking it, I was doubled over with severe stomach cramps, nausea, sweating profusely, shortness of breath, and thought I was going to pass out! But after all this, still no BM. It has been over an hour, still having stomach cramps, nausea, and sweating. I WILL NEVER TAKE MOVANTIK AGAIN! I WISH I HAD NEVER TAKEN THE ONE PILL! You should really think about it before you try this drug. It was one of the absolutely worst experiences of my life!"

For Constipation, Drug Induced "Like many people who have commented, I have been on heavy doses of opioids for 20 years with severe constipation. My doctor recommended Movantik, which I took exactly as directed. Unfortunately, I experienced horrible side effects including terrible cramping, diarrhea, sweating, hot flashes, and essentially the misery of full-blown withdrawal. I now have a huge bottle of Movantik that will likely collect dust forever. I will try everything else before considering that again."

For Opioid-Induced Constipation "I've taken this pill 2x months apart. Both docs insisted it wouldn't put me into ANY form of withdrawal, gut or otherwise. I took a whole pill the 1st time & it sent me right into withdrawal. Blood pressure up, sweats, cold, anxious, restless legs/body, awful. On top of that, it gave me horrendous stomach pains. I was crying & moaning, it felt like labor pains almost, plus nausea. I couldn't take care of my daughter. Took extra methadone, but it didn't help. 7 hrs later I was cleaned out but exhausted & scared, but it finally slowed down, still had mild cramps for hrs after. 2nd time I took less than half a pill & it was the same, except I wasn't in as bad of withdrawal. I vomited so hard & painfully over & over, was seeing double, I didn't get cleaned out, I ended up just having a normal-sized bowel movement. Headache both times. Want so badly to not be constipated anymore that I want to see if it gets easier, but I am so scared. Nothing works. I don't know what to do..."

For Constipation, Drug Induced "After using Relistor shots as needed for my OIC (opioid-induced constipation) (which caused extreme stomach cramps and diarrhea, but it's very effective), my PM doc put me on Movantik. I didn't see results that were nearly as drastic, but it seemed to kind of work. It seems that my pain meds aren't as effective with Movantik in my system. I've had withdrawal symptoms: sweats, cramping, anxiety, yawning profusely, agitation, and my anxiety level has gone through the roof. Not worth it. It's produced BMs on occasion, but I'll stick to my stool softeners, laxatives, and drinking lots of water. I don't like the idea of having another addictive drug in my body to counteract symptoms from the first one. And feeling like crap is not a good trade. GOOD LUCK!"

For Constipation, Drug Induced "I've had very severe constipation for years due to my daily need for oxycodone and morphine. I've tried everything with little relief, so that's why I gave this a try. It was the worst day of my life! I took it first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. About 30 minutes after taking it, I had a bowel movement... yeah, right? About 2 minutes after, I started having SEVERE intestinal cramps! So bad I could hardly breathe! I also got severe chills and had goosebumps all over my body. I continued to have a bowel movement every 15-20 minutes for the next 3 hours. The whole time, having extremely painful cramping, nausea, sweats, chills, goosebumps... It cleaned me out, that's for sure. But it was not worth the pain, and it wiped me out the whole day!!"

For Opioid-Induced Constipation "This stuff, Movantik, is a lifesaver. I take Percocet 10-325 twice a day for a blown-out disc while I'm waiting for surgery. I'm 45. So, I've been on these opioids for about 1.5 months, and the side effects from the opioids, this constipation and resulting anal fissures (blood), are a real problem for me. I had some success with regularity using mini enemas, but was still backed up! First day, I took Movantik early in the morning with coffee and had one good BM. Next day, I took it late afternoon and nothing. Next morning, I took my third dose first thing (with coffee, before opioids) and within 4 hours, had 3 BMs. I'm not crampy at all. The only side effects for me are I feel sweaty, and I have to wait until after BMs to take my opioids. Worth it!!!"

For Constipation, Drug Induced "I have a spinal cord injury and have been taking methadone for nerve pain and oxycodone for hip pain for over 15 years. I had been using Miralax, but it was not as effective as I would like. The doctor recommended Movantik, and I figured it couldn't hurt to try it. Was I ever wrong. The warnings about methadone users are very accurate. Within 2 hours, I was doubled over in pain, in the bathroom for nearly 2 hours while my body cleared out. To the point of practically urinating from my butt. It was excruciating, cramps, nausea, severe sweating, and I had pressure in my head for about 6 hours. I was very ill and out of it. I was extremely afraid, the pain was so severe I thought something was wrong. I was considering going to the ER but couldn't get off the toilet. I think this medication is dangerous."

For Constipation, Drug Induced "Horrible! I've been on methadone maintenance for 2 years, and the past 8 months my bowels have stopped. I've used every laxative you can imagine, and finally got the courage to see my doctor. He gave me samples of Movantik, I read nothing but bad reviews, but desperate for relief, I took one 25mg tablet, and about 2 hours later it threw me into precipitated withdrawals. Sweats, chills, and everything else, the sad part is I didn't even get a bowel movement. I don't suggest this medicine for anyone, it's garbage!"

For Opioid-Induced Constipation "I have been on methadone for 9 years, and I have extremely bad constipation from it. A few months ago, I was in the ER for constipation-related problems, and the ER doctor gave me a prescription for Symproic. It worked great for a while, but didn't last long, so my GI doctor prescribed me Movantik. I took it a little before bedtime, about 20 minutes later, I started getting painful cramps and sweating. Fifteen minutes after that, I had a small BM. The cramps lasted about 2 hours, and by that time, I was in full withdrawal. I was in withdrawal all night until I took my methadone the next morning, I wasn't able to get much sleep. The Movantik did work, and the cramps were bearable, but the withdrawal was too much for me. I do not think it is worth it to take this every day, but if you don't mind the withdrawal, this medication may be worth it to you."

For Constipation, Drug Induced "I used samples of Relistor first. Although it caused massive abdominal pain for 30 minutes to an hour, it worked. Unfortunately, it costs $2,000 a month, and my insurance won't cover it. On to Movantik. Side effects are horrible. Major withdrawal symptoms. Severe sweating, shaking, going from extremely hot to teeth-chattering cold, yawning 50 times in a row, heart palpitations, massive abdominal pain, skin feels like it's crawling with sharp objects for hours. When I say hours, I mean 12-15 hours after my dose. Which was dropped from 25 mg to 12.5 mg. I have a bowel movement after taking about 20% of the time. I don't have a lot of choices though. In 2012, my colon ripped in half. I was in critical care, trying to not go through that hell again."

For Opioid-Induced Constipation "Been on methadone for a year now, currently at 30 mg and tapering down. Tried Movantik and had horrible side effects-intense abdominal pain, stomach spasms which caused uncontrollable vomiting, sweating, withdrawal symptoms that put me in bed for the day. Almost went to the ER. THANK YOU to the person who posted on Feb 26th! Magnesium Oxide 500 mg and Docusate Sodium stool softener 100 mg... I never thought I'd go from clumped marbles, hard as rocks to a smooth, non-painful BM, but this has done wonders for me. Took 3-4 of each at night to start and I was blown away. Now taking 1-2 of each and it's still working. I just wish I knew about this months ago. Buy generic, less than $10 at Walmart. Give it a try if Movantik has failed you!"

For Opioid-Induced Constipation "This Movantik is so awful I believe it caused me to have my intestines tear, caused me to have emergency surgery and a foot of my intestines removed. I also had to wear a colostomy bag for seven months, thankfully, I was able to have the reversal, but I would never use this again. I use stool softeners and MiraLAX. When I did use this drug, it caused me to have horrible stomach cramps, sweats, nausea, and vomiting. I hope they allow this to be posted."

For Constipation, Chronic "This stuff is horrible! I took 1 dose, 25 mg, within 30-40 minutes, I started getting a really gassy stomach, really distended. Then the abdominal pain and cramping started. It was the worst thing I have ever endured. I almost went to the hospital, it was so incredibly bad. Sweating, yawning, explosive diarrhea. After 24 hours, the cramping and extreme pain have subsided significantly but still have a little. By 36 hours, my stomach feels really bloated, but most of the other side effects have subsided. Thank God! I tell you, that was the WORST experience I have ever endured. No one should take this toxic poison."

For Constipation, Drug Induced "I've been on opioids for severe neck and back pain (post-surgical) for more than 10 years. My gastro tested me on several drugs for constipation without success. Movantik was the least expensive and actually created a serious BM within an hour. Unfortunately, I experienced severe cramping, sweating, lightheadedness, and exhaustion during and 1 hour after. I won't take Movantik every day due to cramping, sweating, and weakness, but I can endure the pain once a week. In all fairness, I started Oxygenated Magnesium 07 (magnesium oxide) from a health shop - 3 at night. Mag 07 gave me one BM every 3 days. If I take 4 Mag 07 at night, I have a decent BM the next day. Nowhere near as significant as Movantik, but NO cramping, sweats, etc. Mag 07 may well have set the stage for success with Movantik. I'll stay with Mag 07 and Movantik only once a week. For me, this is a magic combination."

For Opioid-Induced Constipation "I took this medicine, and I’m on 95 mg daily of methadone for the past 5 years. Within 20 min, I had to poop, and then I started feeling icky. I went into full-blown withdrawal, and it was terrible. I was shaking, freezing, and sweating, nausea was intense, yawning, runny nose, back pain, and every 10 min, I had more cramping and pooping until my bowel was completely empty. Finally, I tried taking more methadone, but it was being blocked out and wasn’t helping. I then took some Tylenol and a few mg of Xanax, and it knocked me out and I fell asleep finally. Luckily, when I woke up, the withdrawal had passed, but I was in withdrawal for around 3-6 hours. It’s midnight now, and I’m extremely sore from back spasms, and my stomach feels awful. Please don’t take this garbage. Pooping is not that important. Use a stool softener daily. This was the worst day of my life in 5 years."

For Opioid-Induced Constipation "Was given a sample of 25 mg from my doc, the pharmacy said not covered on my plan. Got a note months later from my provider that an appeal on my behalf has been ruled favorable on my side. Although still a $100 co-pay, I thought I'd try it, and if it works, it'll be well worth the cost. I took a tablet from my sample. Within 20 mins, cramps started (no sweat, that's expected), another 10 mins and strange sounds started rumbling deep in my gut, and the surprisingly tranquil farting started. Another 15 mins and I was having a bowel movement and was overjoyed. After a few of these, I got a sharp pain in my lower back, I started yawning, cold sweats, and proceeded to have explosive diarrhea for the next 6 hours straight. I also had a severe migraine and thoughts of impending doom. It took 11 hours before my bowels calmed down. I actually slept in my recliner lined with plastic trash bags in case I blew containment. Now, nearly 24 hours later, my gut is finally somewhat back to normal. $2.49 enema."

It worked, but I really thought I was going to die. The cramps, sweating, head spinning, and yes, it cleans you out with the worst smell ever experienced. If you use this, be ready to suffer."

For Opioid-Induced Constipation "I read each review before I got it. I would have done anything to go number twos in the bathroom. I am 5'9" and 115 lbs with an extended stomach. I am lucky if I go once a month. I didn't realize how many people have this, and I can feel the pain you all have. After 27 years of being on some type of opioid, I am down to 2 Suboxone. I took this for 5 days and went through bad withdrawal. I wouldn't care if it made me go to the bathroom! I was sweating, every bone hurt, and I had no sleep, but nothing happened in my stomach! Then I did more research, and the main ingredient is 25 mgs of Naloxegol! Exactly the same as the 2 mgs Naloxone in Suboxone. They say it only goes in your intestines, which is impossible by how it affected my body. People don't understand what not going to the bathroom does to us. If I could add one thing, I was on methadone for 3+ years, and that stuff is worse than heroin! So if you are young and on that, please try and switch. I wish someone told me that when I was 28!"

For Opioid-Induced Constipation "OMG!! I didn't go to the bathroom for almost a month. I did go a little, not much, then I started to get wicked bad heartburn, so I said let me try the Movantik again. Within 15 mins, I began to sweat profusely, I'm not kidding. I was drenched with sweat and had cramps so bad I thought I died, and the chills-I couldn't believe that this could actually do this to someone. And the throwing up was also horrible!! No lie, I thought I was puking poop. I was so grossed out, and I'm still sweating like no tomorrow, and it's been 2 days now since I took a dose of it. I'm glad it works for some, but I wouldn't give that to my worst enemy!! That stuff is just horrible!! I've been on methadone for almost 18 years now for back pain, failed surgery, fusion, and SCS failed."

Movantik is a lifesaver. Although it says take one a day, it's my belief it should only be taken when you can't go. Yes, you will have cramps and sweating, but ultimately this medicine works, and I would recommend it to anyone."

For Constipation, Drug Induced "It's a complete contradiction, on one hand, it'll make you go for sure, till it's running down your legs in the middle of the night. On the other hand, it only works as a fast-acting medication. So you get to go through the cramping, sweating, irritation, withdrawals, and panic every time you want to go. I took my second pill a few weeks ago and posted the effects here. I haven't taken any more but am still having all of these side effects every time I have to go. I thought I would be over all this by now. I'm miserable, along with sleeping legs."

For Opioid-Induced Constipation "This constipation by far is the worst. I, too, have gone almost 3 weeks without relief. To me, it feels like you're poisoning yourself with all your toxic waste just sitting in your body for far too long. That's how I describe it. I get hot, sweaty, I turn red like my blood pressure is going through the roof. Just like being poisoned. It starts out with small, rock-hard waste, and then once that first plug that has blocked is gone, then I can't stop going. That's when it gets terrible, I can't make it to the bathroom. I can't leave the house. I don't dare. What do they use to clean out a patient that is going to have an exam for colon cancer or just a checkup? Well, I hope they figure this out soon."
