Naloxegol for Opioid-Induced Constipation "I have taken opioids for 15 years, multiple back injuries and others. I'm getting older and don't move around as much. Anyway, I was given 25 mg and tried 1 pill. It was too much. Caused cramping, pain, some diarrhea, but gave relief. I believe it caused withdrawals for days. And though it is not listed as a laxative or fast-acting, it was my experience anyway, it was. I tried a third about 8 mg. That also acted fast. After not taking it for 3 days, I'm going to give it a try after another day or 2. This time, a quarter or 6 mg max. I feel it will still work. Everyone is different and taking different doses of opiate. If you choose to try this med, I would start with a very low dose while at home. And be sure to save your pain med till after, or take it long enough before it doesn't completely leave you in withdrawals. My half dose left me feeling worse than the constipation days later. I think that's what it was. So my final opinion, it can work, but needs to be better regulated than prescribed."

Naloxegol for Constipation, Drug Induced "I started taking this med about 4 weeks ago when my doctor gave me samples. I decided to start out with half a pill. And it worked within hours. For years, I would maybe have one bowel movement a week, if I was lucky. So I thought this med was the answer to my problems. I would only take it every few days and was still having a bowel movement daily. My doctor decided my dose of pain meds was too high, even though I've been taking that dose for 7 years. I ran out of samples 3 weeks ago and insurance won't pay, so even though I haven't taken it for weeks, I'm still having diarrhea daily. I'm not sure if it could possibly be from the Movantik still or because my pain meds have been cut back. Either way, I'm miserable and wonder if anyone has had side effects weeks after discontinuing?"

Naloxegol for Opioid-Induced Constipation "I'm 80 years old. The first time I used the whole pill, it gave me diarrhea right after. Three days later, I cut the pill in half, and it worked well, it gave me a bowel movement an hour later. I take half a pill every three days, and a half to two hours later, I have a bowel movement, no problems thereafter, and I have no complaints."

Naloxegol for Constipation, Drug Induced "There are coupons for Movantik, but you can't use them if you are on Medicare or if you don't have insurance. This is the first coupon I have seen that you can't bypass your insurance (because your insurance doesn't cover it or you need p/a) and just pay cash. My doctor wants me to try this medication. I have been taking Tramadol, which is a synthetic narcotic for chronic pain. I am allergic to all opioids and have major sensitivities to many other medications. After reading the reviews, I think I will keep working with buffered Vitamin C crystals and magnesium citrate capsules. I had stopped taking all the supplements doctors had me on when the major constipation started, but started working with these since they cause diarrhea. Prune juice too."

Naloxegol for Constipation, Drug Induced "I've been using opioids for about 9 years now. Spinal surgeries had me using morphine, fentanyl, Dilaudid, and Norco at various times over the years. I have been using Norco (2 to 6 tablets per day) and MS Contin (twice a day) for the past 2 years. Dr. suggested Movantik and gave me samples. It worked as advertised for the first 3 or 4 times, but then started giving me diarrhea. I take it at 6 AM, but it takes 3 or 4 hours for the symptoms to subside, and I am very weak afterward. During this time, I am unable to leave the house. I have a life and need to be places early. I guess I will try cutting the pill in half or go without breakfast and then take the regular dose."

For Constipation, Drug Induced "Absolutely awful!! I'm on methadone, and I'm not really sure these medications go well together. Yes, I'm certainly no longer constipated, but the stomach pain, more like burning from the inside out. I've had children, and this was bad. I very nearly phoned for an ambulance, had sweat pouring off me, this went on for a good 2 and a half hours. The stomach pain, that is, the sweating and chills a few hours. I took this medication today before I had my methadone, this was only the second tablet I'd taken, the first one I had 2 days before gave me really bad stomach and intestinal pain for around an hour, bad but just bearable. It must be very strong, as I went to the toilet within 30 minutes, had diarrhea all night. I also had it today several times. I read that you're more likely to have severe reactions to Moventik while on methadone. Great for constipation. Not if you're on methadone, though. I was put straight on to 25 mg, perhaps that's too high, or maybe a doctor should see you in person, not just over the phone, when prescribing."

For Opioid-Induced Constipation "I took this medication on 4 different occasions at the lowest dose possible. It creates diarrhea, then I start feeling like I have the flu. I'm sick all over, excessive drowsiness, and a bit of depression. It's not a good drug for me."

For Opioid-Induced Constipation "I ended up with severe constipation after two weeks of being on this medication, resulting in hospitalization. Need two enemas and a further 9 days on other laxatives before it cleared my bowel. I was in a lot of pain. Following that, I have now got severe diarrhea and stomach pains. I have stopped taking it and am waiting for further advice from my gastro doctor."

Naloxegol for Constipation, Drug Induced "This medicine is bad. I had severe vomiting and diarrhea for 12 hours straight. I also had severe stomach contractions after only one pill. I'd rather be constipated than take this again. Please be aware!!!"
