Naloxegol for Opioid-Induced Constipation "I have taken opioids for 15 years, multiple back injuries and others. I'm getting older and don't move around as much. Anyway, I was given 25 mg and tried 1 pill. It was too much. Caused cramping, pain, some diarrhea, but gave relief. I believe it caused withdrawals for days. And though it is not listed as a laxative or fast-acting, it was my experience anyway, it was. I tried a third about 8 mg. That also acted fast. After not taking it for 3 days, I'm going to give it a try after another day or 2. This time, a quarter or 6 mg max. I feel it will still work. Everyone is different and taking different doses of opiate. If you choose to try this med, I would start with a very low dose while at home. And be sure to save your pain med till after, or take it long enough before it doesn't completely leave you in withdrawals. My half dose left me feeling worse than the constipation days later. I think that's what it was. So my final opinion, it can work, but needs to be better regulated than prescribed."

Naloxegol for Opioid-Induced Constipation "Movantik was prescribed after lumbar fusion surgery. The drug was $324.00, my share, and it was not effective. The drug was taken as prescribed, on an empty stomach. After 4 days of constipation, other laxatives had to be taken. The pain from the first bowel movement after Movantik had been taken, and induced by other medications, was excruciating."

Naloxegol for Opioid-Induced Constipation "Last year I had both my hips replaced (at 2 separate times) and was prescribed opioids. Within days I had horrible constipation, tried the over-the-counters first suggested by my surgeon with no relief. I addressed this with my surgeon during my follow-up visit and asked him about Movantik, I remember seeing the commercial. He stated that he never heard of it before, looked it up, and gave me a script. Took Movantik the next morning, by that evening, I had my first bowel movement and felt so much better. I did experience a little cramping, but I would take that over the constipation any day. Was only on my opioid for two weeks, so I stopped the Movantik at the same time. I was just shocked how my surgeon had never heard of Movantik before."

Naloxegol for Opioid-Induced Constipation "Paramedic injured on the job in 2003, I've been diagnosed with 8 herniated discs, 2 torn rotator cuffs. MOVANTIC did cause withdrawal from my max dose of 60 mg Oxycodone (15 mg 4x day) MDs and pain management stat due to pain related to my injuries. I will be on opioids the rest of my life. With that said, my constipation has gotten worse, requiring a Fleet for every BM. June 22nd, the Fleet stopped working. So I had to use Magnesium Citrate every day. Went to the GI doctor July 27th, 2021, diagnosed with OIC. I was given a sample of MOVANTIC. I took a pill at lunchtime, and 4 hours later I had a normal soft BM. Two hours later, I had a second BM with no Fleet use. I can't do withdrawal and pain of 10/10 every day, so it will be every few days. I can't pay the $500 a month for an OIC medication, and I can't walk when detoxed (2X), so I suffer for doing my job, as I'm not a drug abuser."

Naloxegol for Constipation, Drug Induced "I had surgery a few months ago and suffered constipation due to oxycodone. This last surgery, the doctor recommended Movantik, which worked fine for me, but I always suffered from constipation even when not on opioids. My biggest issue is that it caused me horrible anxiety. I had anxiety episodes before, but they came back. I'm not taking Movantik anymore due to this."

Naloxegol for Constipation, Drug Induced "There are coupons for Movantik, but you can't use them if you are on Medicare or if you don't have insurance. This is the first coupon I have seen that you can't bypass your insurance (because your insurance doesn't cover it or you need p/a) and just pay cash. My doctor wants me to try this medication. I have been taking Tramadol, which is a synthetic narcotic for chronic pain. I am allergic to all opioids and have major sensitivities to many other medications. After reading the reviews, I think I will keep working with buffered Vitamin C crystals and magnesium citrate capsules. I had stopped taking all the supplements doctors had me on when the major constipation started, but started working with these since they cause diarrhea. Prune juice too."

For Opioid-Induced Constipation "I have been on oxycodone 30 mg X6 for 8 years, and the last 2-3 years started having major constipation. It was like passing a boulder. Terribly painful. I received samples of Movantik from my doctor and finally decided to try it once other remedies failed. After I swallowed the Movantik, I started searching for reviews and found all these people being put into immediate withdrawal. I was terrified. About an hour later, I was able to go to the bathroom. It emptied me completely. Months' worth of backup. I felt amazing. There was some cramping, and I was a little flushed, but that’s it. I woke up the next day feeling incredible. I feel awful for those that had a bad experience. I was one of the fortunate ones that it worked for."

Naloxegol for Opioid-Induced Constipation "I have been on opioids for years. Taking oxy and gabapentin. I was taking 3600 mg a day of gabapentin and presently about 40 mg a day of OXY. Constipation would last 7 to 9 days and would only be slightly relieved using Dulcolax. I took my first dose and in about an hour I had a bowel movement. Within four hours, I had a total of two. So far the results have been outstanding. This is only after the very first dose. I have been taking a stool softener at night and also using MiraLAX each morning. This may be why I experienced a faster result? So far, so good! I truly hope that others find relief. This has been a huge obstacle for me. Currently working on weaning off both medications. I’ve been told I was extremely overmedicated for years by my doctors. Please, question what it is that you’re being prescribed. It took me years to try to get somebody to sit down and review these meds with me. Keep fighting and keep searching for answers. Best wishes."

For Opioid-Induced Constipation "I ended up with severe constipation after two weeks of being on this medication, resulting in hospitalization. Need two enemas and a further 9 days on other laxatives before it cleared my bowel. I was in a lot of pain. Following that, I have now got severe diarrhea and stomach pains. I have stopped taking it and am waiting for further advice from my gastro doctor."

Naloxegol for Constipation, Drug Induced "This has to be one of the worst medications I’ve taken. Non-stop stomach pain and increased constipation. Not to mention getting withdrawal symptoms. Absolute poison!"

Naloxegol for Constipation, Chronic "I am on day 5 of Movantik. No help with BM at all! Lightheaded is the only side effect. I feel this med is working against me, causing even more constipation. Even much less gas passing! I take Norco daily for pain for 4 years now, and the constipation/impactedness is worsening! Been to the hospital twice recently for relief. Stomach bloating is worse too on this med. I'm calling it quits, as today's dose gave me bad headaches with the dizziness. No relief or success with the Movantik. I actually feel worse! Insur did not cover either. I will keep looking for methods of relief. MiraLAX works on and off. I have found a daily probiotic helps, but not continuously, however, I couldn't imagine not having it... best of luck to all."
