"I just took my first dose, and within an hour I went. But I've been sweating like anything, I have terrible gas and bloating. Mentally I feel a little anxious but okay. I'm wondering how long this stuff blocks the receptors? Anyone?"

"Thirty minutes after taking Movantik, I had a weird taste in my mouth, then started itching. It did work twice, but I feel like I have the flu, felt like it all day today. My pain has been awful today, despite my Morphine ER every 8 hours. Then it hit me, I think this medicine may have done something to my pain medication. It feels like withdrawal. Won’t be taking it anymore. I have enough bad days with this chronic pain from severe arthritis in the cervical spine, and herniated discs, foraminal narrowing, occipital neuralgia, CMPs and fibromyalgia, multiple joint osteoarthritis, and motility disorders in my esophagus, along with level C esophagitis and gastroparesis, etc., etc. I don’t need this Movantik helping to add to my bad days. It did work and fast, but not at this cost."

"Negative and potentially dangerous experience. All Movantik did for me was give me gas and painful cramps all day/night. For the entire two weeks I took it, I did not have any BM. Thankfully, I was switched back to my regular OIC medicine and could make. If I would have continued to take Movantik, I was running the risk of a serious blockage being created from that medicine, so I strongly recommend that if this does not work for someone within 14 days, to immediately consult a doctor!"

"I have fibromyalgia, IBS-C, and worst of all, OIC. I took as prescribed one day. I got horrible pain and withdrawal symptoms, gut gurgled for a couple hours in the morning. Then zip, nada, nothing! I was out after that. Second day too sick. I thought I should give it a second try two weeks later to make sure as I had high hopes I might get back some of my life. Same again but worse. Kept repeating symptoms at odd times for four days so far. I dread reliving withdrawals at bedtime. Docs should know fibromyalgia is a brain-related disease, so the med is crossing the blood barrier."

"I’m on 80 mg of methadone for opioid addiction, and it’s worked brilliantly over the past 5.75 years. I ended up with bad methadone constipation—6 days no BM—and severe gas cramps. I read a lot of horror stories on this site and decided to start with half of a Movantik 25 mg pill. Within 45 minutes, I had what would have been a decent-sized BM—but I was going on 6 days of backup. I had very minimal cramping and no withdrawal symptoms to speak of. 8 hours later, I took the other 1/2—same result. I should note that I’ve been abstaining from taking my methadone for about 2 days, hoping that a) it will help get things moving and b) it would lessen the severity of any withdrawal effects. I’m also on Wellbutrin, which has always worked as a buffer with withdrawal symptoms for me. I felt hardly any symptoms after my initial BM each time I took 1/2 a pill. I’d consider it a success—I feel way less blocked up."

"Just one 12.5 mg of this and it works in about 30 mins. However, I get the worst anxiety attacks I have ever had! I'm not kidding. The anxiety lasts for 3 to 4 days from just one dose. It feels like I am having a heart attack or worse! I keep thinking how do people take this stuff every day? Today I had not had any and it was day 4. I felt great but wanted to poop fast so I could go to the beach. Forget it. In 5 hours I was right back with the heart attack. It also makes my bones hurt. If I bump into anything it feels like I broke the bone! So then I have to live with the anxiety while putting ice on whatever I bump. I'm not even bumping anything hard. It happens when I just brush against a door. I'm going back to magnesium powder."

"Movantik does nothing more than put you in complete withdrawal. Eat a high-fiber diet and you won't be put through HELL! The pain docs will not tell you this when they prescribe it. And that's what the pharmaceutical co. don't want you to know! No more of my money."

"I've taken these as needed, and every time I have to prepare myself for being 'uncomfortable' and prepared by not leaving the house for at least 4-5 hours. I have to say it will make you go, however, the next 3-5 hours are unpredictable. I've experienced some withdrawal-type feelings, as well as anxiety/restlessness. I keep this medication on hand in case I really need it to 'go.' I may take 1/2 of a dose and see if I can get a more gradual BM."

"My experience is the product works extremely quickly. If you have been taking opioids for an extended period of time and take this product, you will have multiple bowel movements approx an hour after the first dose. I also suspect this fast-acting medicine wanes after a few hours. More information should be given, specifically if cutting the 25 mg tablet in half is an acceptable procedure for 'reducing' the dosage to 12.5 mg. Finally, I noticed my urine developed an offensive odor after starting Movantik, not sure if anyone else experienced this..."

"Let me tell you my Movantik experience. It's a terrible drug, but it does help me use the bathroom, but it's not worth it. When I take it, I have the worst stomach pains I have ever felt. I thought I was going to end up in the hospital. The pain was the worst stomach pain I have ever felt. I'm on 72 mg of methadone daily, so it's very hard to use the bathroom. While it did help with that, the trade-off will be the worst pain you have ever felt. If you ever saw the Alien movie where they explode people's stomachs to come alive, that's how your stomach feels, like it will explode. Now I don't know how many people experience these side effects, but from what I read, a lot do. If you can take it without these side effects, it definitely will help you poop."

"So for constipation, 10 stars! It worked fast too, but if you are not taking your pain pills, do not take! I thought I'd be okay with the fentanyl patch in my system as I had not needed one of my oxycodone that day, and I had horrible side effects of withdrawal symptoms, fever, chills, couldn't get warm, then would sweat real bad, it was terrible. I thought I had an infection again because those side effects mimic infection too. Today I really want to take one but am scared. Should I take it BEFORE I take my pain pills? What works best? I'm already constipated, don't need to be feeling sick also! Thanks!"

"I have been taking Dilaudid for about a year for spinal pain and soft tissue pain from fibromyalgia and interstitial cystitis. I have been taking it for one week and still have not had much of a bowel movement. I see that some are experiencing horrible side effects. I must say I haven't had a single side effect, just the regular bloating and discomfort of constipation. I'm still getting impactions. But my doctor told me to take it, period, without specifying the time of day. I just read you should take it an hour before breakfast. I was taking mine at night! I will change to morning tomorrow. So far, it hasn't helped at all."

"I have been taking Movantik for four days straight now as directed by my pain management doctor, and the pain in my stomach is so severe that I think I might pass out. The pain is unlike any pain I have had. It isn’t the gassy pain I have had before, this is different and much worse, so nauseated, heartburn/acid reflux incredibly bad, and suffering through this all, and I have not gone to the restroom yet. I am throwing this bottle out. I, like you all, was researching this medicine because I feel so bad. I was completely unaware of the side effects and withdrawal symptoms that this medicine causes. Maybe some of this is withdrawal as well. Thanks to all for sharing your experiences. If not for you, I would have continued taking this."

"I have been on hydrocortisone for several years now and have had constipation for several years. I started taking Movantik for a month now, and it has not worked at all. This has been a huge waste of money. I will have to talk to my doctor to find another way to relieve my constipation."

"I took this one time, and I will never take this again. I took it 12 hours ago and have been up the entire night with explosive diarrhea. Chills, stomach ache, feeling like I'm dying. But the absolute worst part is, it feels as though I've been stripped of my pain medication, so I am in so much back pain that I've been crying. Nothing will stop it, and I've even taken more pain relief this morning. I really felt like going to the hospital, I'm in so much pain."

"This drug never worked for me. It caused withdrawal symptoms and almost killed me! I was in 10 times more pain because it was causing me to withdraw from my pain meds. I do not recommend anyone take this horrible drug! Doctors just write it to make money and do not check to see how awful the side effects are!"

"Took first dose, went within a few hours, no side effects, BM a little muddy, otherwise perfect. BM insurance covered after doing prior authorization request from doc. I also had to try every OTC med before Medicaid covered it."

"This medicine is bad. I had severe vomiting and diarrhea for 12 hours straight. I also had severe stomach contractions after only one pill. I'd rather be constipated than take this again. Please be aware!!!"

"Only been taking this drug for one week. My pain doc gave me some samples of Movantik 25 mg. Took it around 7 a.m. By the 3rd day, it started doing what I had read. However, by the 6th day, I had mild withdrawal. I still could function. I took my dose of MS Contin 45 mg, and after about an hour, I was feeling better. Today, I asked my pharmacist about cutting it in half, and she didn't see a problem. So I will let you know how that works out. I am surprised that many have related like total withdrawal symptoms. For me, OIC with IBS disables me about 3 days a week. I am so sick that anything is better. So at this point, I am taking 45 mg morphine ER 3 times a day, 1 10 mg Norco daily. I think with adjusting it, that it will be helpful for me in the long run."

"I started taking this med about 4 weeks ago when my doctor gave me samples. I decided to start out with half a pill. And it worked within hours. For years, I would maybe have one bowel movement a week, if I was lucky. So I thought this med was the answer to my problems. I would only take it every few days and was still having a bowel movement daily. My doctor decided my dose of pain meds was too high, even though I've been taking that dose for 7 years. I ran out of samples 3 weeks ago and insurance won't pay, so even though I haven't taken it for weeks, I'm still having diarrhea daily. I'm not sure if it could possibly be from the Movantik still or because my pain meds have been cut back. Either way, I'm miserable and wonder if anyone has had side effects weeks after discontinuing?"

"First dose worked great. Then comes horrible pain. I only use in dire straits when it's been 5 days and nothing else works. Sometimes it takes days for Movantik to even kick in. That's what made me find this board, it's been 3 days this time and it hasn't worked, but I haven't had any stomach pain. My pain experience doesn't sound as bad as some of yours. Try heating pad on stomach. Or my joke, just stay full of poop! It feels better!"

"Took 25 mg yesterday AM and slept for 5 hours. I am also a spinal cord injured person, and that plays a big role in bowel incontinence. Will speak to pharmacist about lowering dose. Also, some reviews insinuate they dropped methadone because of Movantik. Would appreciate comments from those who have done this."

"I have been on opioids for 20 years at least. So constipation kind of rules my life. I too ended up in emergency twice, but all they did was give me an enema, which never works for me. I saw a Movantik ad on TV, so I asked my Dr. if I should try it. He agreed and wrote me a prescription. When I got home, I took one, and it had no effect at all. Just nothing. So I decided to check the reviews on this drug, and people have had just too many problems with pain, cramps, all sorts of awful things. Since it didn't work, I felt lucky. I don't want to go through the pain."

"I've been taking opiate medication for approximately 3 years for chronic back pain from an injury/automobile accident. My doctor gave me a few sample packs and instructed me: #1 25 mg tablet of Movantik daily. On the second day, which was in my normal 4-5 day period, so I can't say that it was induced from taking the Movantik. Anyhow, I continued taking it for another 6 days, and nothing at all, so I felt it was definitely time to go back on the Amitiza before I stopped altogether. Other than that, I didn't feel any other symptoms."
