For Constipation, Drug Induced "I have had constipation for months since taking pain meds that I need for extreme back pain. The constipation has been so bad that it has made my back pain even worse. My doc gave me Movantik, and it has truly saved my life. It has regulated me and made me regular again with hardly any straining. I cannot say enough good things about Movantik and how it's been a game changer for me. Amazing!"

For Opioid-Induced Constipation "I took it very close to the same time I had taken my dose. Within an hour, I had a bowel movement, but as soon as I did, I began violently vomiting and having explosive diarrhea. My hands and feet started going numb, and I could not stop vomiting. I ended up in the ER via ambulance. I have never in my life been that ill. My BP jumped to 174/101. At the hospital, they finally got me into triage and gave me Zofran after an hour and a half. It finally eased the nausea. I had a terrible migraine to boot. Finally, once the nausea wore off, I told my mom to take me to my house, as I just wanted to lay down, so I ended up walking out, dehydrated, migraine and all. I went home and slept it off. The point of this comment is Movantik threw me into full-blown withdrawal. I had no clue what this medication was, it's naloxegol, which is like naloxone. Had I known, I'd have never even touched it, so if you're on methadone, think twice before taking it. Has anyone on methadone maintenance who has taken this medicine experienced having a positive UDS because of Movantik?"

For Constipation, Drug Induced "I have read all of the reviews and am surprised at so many with serious side effects. That is a shame because I have had remarkable success with Movantik. I have taken opioids for 8 years due to chronic and severe degenerative disk disease. I have taken fentanyl, morphine, oxycontin, hydromorphone, etc. The most current treatment is 24 mg of hydromorphone and 15 mg of methadone per day. Constipation was a terrible side effect. I continually used OTC of all types, to little avail. At times, I would go 4-6 days w/o a BM. I had a BM on the first day I took 25 mg of Movantik. No side effects. I take it once per day and have a BM almost once per day. Sometime at the most every two days. Stools are not irregular. For me, a miracle drug."

For Constipation, Drug Induced "I have taken opiates for many years primarily for back pain. I have OIC and tried numerous over-the-counter meds. For whatever reason, the OTC laxatives, stool softeners, and even Miralax caused a horrible interaction with my methadone, and I felt like I was poisoned until I stopped taking the OTC meds for about 5 days. Anyway... my Dr. recommended Movantik. I took the first 25 mg pill, and in about 2 hours, I had a successful, somewhat easy bowel movement. About 15 minutes later, what felt like 5 pounds of excrement came out. The first week was great. Here is where it gets awful... It wasn't until almost 2 full weeks into taking Movantik that I began having HORRIBLE methadone withdrawal symptoms. I quit taking Movantik. NEVER AGAIN!!!"

For Constipation, Drug Induced "I lasted less than 3 weeks on Movantik my provider recommended! I ended up at the ER because of the severe cramping, violent vomiting, bloating, nausea that had occurred. I'm being asked if I had ever had colitis or diverticulitis in the past, which is a fat no! They had to put me on an IV because of the dehydration. I've been off Movantik for a while, and my GI is still irritated. Huge disappointment, but I'd rather give natural birth to more children because it was a breeze compared to the experience I had with Movantik! Now it appears I have to seek a GI doc to deal with the aftereffects of being on it!"

For Opioid-Induced Constipation "I have been on methadone for 9 years, and I have extremely bad constipation from it. A few months ago, I was in the ER for constipation-related problems, and the ER doctor gave me a prescription for Symproic. It worked great for a while, but didn't last long, so my GI doctor prescribed me Movantik. I took it a little before bedtime, about 20 minutes later, I started getting painful cramps and sweating. Fifteen minutes after that, I had a small BM. The cramps lasted about 2 hours, and by that time, I was in full withdrawal. I was in withdrawal all night until I took my methadone the next morning, I wasn't able to get much sleep. The Movantik did work, and the cramps were bearable, but the withdrawal was too much for me. I do not think it is worth it to take this every day, but if you don't mind the withdrawal, this medication may be worth it to you."

For Constipation, Drug Induced "Movantik works. It's somewhat inconsistent. Most days I can count on it. On an occasional day, things don't move as well. On those days, I supplement with a Dulcolax suppository. Be advised that it may take 2-3 days for your system to get used to it. I felt a little tired and edgy. I think that's because it may induce some opiate withdrawal effects. It was only temporary and tolerable. These are all minor issues. Like I said, it works, and that's a big relief for an opiate user."

For Opioid-Induced Constipation "I took my first dose yesterday morning at seven. Within thirty mins, I had the worst cramps of my life! Was sweating puddles, bright red, sick as anything! My boyfriend had to drive me to the ER. It took Benadryl, Toradol, phenetol, Phenergan, and a muscle relaxer that they had to put in my arm because they couldn't start an IV because my body was going through chills and dehydration from throwing up and horrible diarrhea. My stomach felt like it was tearing! I've been on methadone treatment for a little over two years. I do believe this medication sent me into the worst withdrawals of my life, and that's how it unconstipates you. With my insurance, I paid $30, and I won't be taking the other 29. I wouldn't take the chance of putting yourself through this."

For Constipation, Drug Induced "Talk about induced anxiety! I have never felt so absolutely horrific as I did when using this medication. My doctor prescribed it one week after shoulder surgery when I was having severe stomach problems and constipation. I had already stopped taking Percocet when I started taking it. And when I still wasn't pooping...you guessed it, the doctor prescribed additional dosage! I was crying, in a state of panic, unable to sleep---I never ever want to feel this way again. After reading up on it, you are not supposed to take Movantik if you are not taking opioids! Thank you for the medically induced anxiety horror show."

For Constipation, Drug Induced "I used samples of Relistor first. Although it caused massive abdominal pain for 30 minutes to an hour, it worked. Unfortunately, it costs $2,000 a month, and my insurance won't cover it. On to Movantik. Side effects are horrible. Major withdrawal symptoms. Severe sweating, shaking, going from extremely hot to teeth-chattering cold, yawning 50 times in a row, heart palpitations, massive abdominal pain, skin feels like it's crawling with sharp objects for hours. When I say hours, I mean 12-15 hours after my dose. Which was dropped from 25 mg to 12.5 mg. I have a bowel movement after taking about 20% of the time. I don't have a lot of choices though. In 2012, my colon ripped in half. I was in critical care, trying to not go through that hell again."

For Opioid-Induced Constipation "I only weigh 110 pounds. So, as a precaution, I cut the Movantik in half, and I'm glad I did. I did everything else I was supposed to do. It was easy not to eat before I took it by only taking it right after I woke up. That way, nothing was in my system. I waited 1 hour to eat and drink coffee. After my coffee, I had luck, and I was good to go. Yes, it made me weak and a little sore feeling in my tummy, but the extreme sickness most people get on here is not my experience. My menstrual cramps are a bit worse. I only take low-dose tramadol. Been on the same amount for 6 years, and only the last few months have I felt constipated. I can't believe how long people wait to seek medical treatment. No wonder you people are getting that sick. Also, follow the rules and don't eat in that window of before and after."

For Constipation, Drug Induced "I get violently sick. I vomit, migraine, stomach cramps, and lingering headache after a 24-hour period. But I am so desperate sometimes I put myself through it to feel better for a couple of days after. I can't take it every day or I would never be able to leave home because of side effects."

For Constipation, Drug Induced "I have to say I was somewhat relieved to see that I wasn't the only one who suffered so greatly with this drug. The experience (but sad to see others suffering). I truly thought I was dying, and I kept telling myself it'll be over soon, it'll be over soon. The pain, chills, and vomiting, absolute suffering, were unlike anything in recent memory for me. I'll never take this drug again, and I'm afraid to take anything like it, it was that severe of a reaction, and this was my 4th day taking this drug. The first night, the cramps were pretty rough but short-lived. Last night, I just truly never thought I was going to survive it. It lasted about 3 hours, which felt like an eternity. Today I'm just so weak feeling. It's going in the garbage. $323 wasted."

For Constipation, Drug Induced "My doctor had me try Movantik because I have had 4 back surgeries, all failed to relieve the pain, so now I have to take pain meds just to feel halfway human. I took the Movantik, and it worked really fast the first few times I took it and is still working, not as fast, but it works. Yes, you can get cramps and shouldn't plan on doing much after taking it because you never know when it's going to kick in. I can handle the side effects, and they can be painful. I am so glad that they finally got something that does what it says it's going to do. If you're uncomfortable because you're backed up, give it a try. Good luck to everyone that gives it a try."

For Constipation, Drug Induced "My opioid constipation condition was really awful because my Dr. had not suggested a laxative at the time of writing prescriptions for hydrocodone, later oxycodone and Percocet, and I had been taking all of these for more than 2 months and had recently not had a bowel movement in 6 days. I was miserable and couldn't even sit up straight. Movantik was the 3rd prescribed laxative I tried, as the other 2 didn't work consistently. I am very grateful for Movantik. I take it on an empty stomach, first thing in the morning, very little cramping to speak of and (for me) within 2 to 4 hours, I have relief. If I miss a day, I notice I'm not able to go, but I simply make sure to take it every morning for every day I'm taking opioids. I have definitely found that Movantik works for me."

For Opioid-Induced Constipation "I will NEVER EVER take this medicine. I took one pill last night after taking 180 mg of morphine a day. I've never been in so much pain in my life. EXPLOSIVE DIARRHEA AND A LOT OF VOMITING. I literally threw up everything in my body, including my morphine - for 18 hours straight, I was in excruciating pain and withdrawals because every time I took my meds again, I threw them up. I couldn't even keep down Xanax to help with anxiety. Please be aware it will relieve your constipation, but you will be cleaning your bathroom floor, sink, and toilet when you finally feel better. I agree with whoever said I wouldn't give this to my worst enemy."

For Constipation, Drug Induced "As a follow-up to my previous post: after taking for approximately 6 weeks, I have the following side effects to report. Marked drowsiness for the first few weeks, now gone. Increased facial sweating, excessive sweat only from my face despite not being warm, though it is not always a daily occurrence, it still continues. Lastly, I do very occasionally experience yawning an hour or so after taking my morning dose, usually after a sizable bowel movement. Overall, this drug has GREATLY IMPROVED my quality of life, VERY effective with virtually no side effects. I do need to take a Bisacodyl laxative based on what I eat, but I HIGHLY recommend you try this if on long-term opiates like me!!"

For Opioid-Induced Constipation "**Warning** Especially for Suboxone users. Do NOT swallow a Movantik pill. What you are essentially taking is a withdrawal pill, from which there is no undoing. I drink 60 oz of SmartWater (x2 big bottles) a day and eat a fiber-rich diet, i.e., dates, almonds, oatmeal, smoothies, Fiber One bars, and I'm fine. If you travel like I do, then you will have rough patches if you fall off your routine. And if any doctors are reading this, if you are going to prescribe this horrible med, be very clear with your patient that it's very likely to plunge the user into full-blown withdrawals. If this nightmare pill has any purpose, it's for a 70-year-old war vet with a broken back that's been taking opiates for 35 years and wears an adult diaper. Otherwise, discontinue this horrible medicine."

For Constipation, Drug Induced "My PM MD gave me samples after being constantly constipated for 2 years. Post L5-S1 disc replacement - 50 mcg/hr q72h of fentanyl and 10 mg oxycodone 6x day. The 1st time you take Movantik, make sure you take it on a day off from work! I took it on a weekend, first thing in the AM as the instructions say (1 hr before your 1st meal) and had a BM approximately 4 hrs later. I strongly suggest taking a stool softener - the BM was so wide from sitting in my intestines that I cut myself while going and bled (awful feeling). I tried taking every other day but it gave me nausea the day of taking it and usually the day after, very painful cramping before, during, and after taking the pill and having a BM, and decreased appetite. Will try Relistor inj next."

For Opioid-Induced Constipation "Been on methadone for a year now, currently at 30 mg and tapering down. Tried Movantik and had horrible side effects-intense abdominal pain, stomach spasms which caused uncontrollable vomiting, sweating, withdrawal symptoms that put me in bed for the day. Almost went to the ER. THANK YOU to the person who posted on Feb 26th! Magnesium Oxide 500 mg and Docusate Sodium stool softener 100 mg... I never thought I'd go from clumped marbles, hard as rocks to a smooth, non-painful BM, but this has done wonders for me. Took 3-4 of each at night to start and I was blown away. Now taking 1-2 of each and it's still working. I just wish I knew about this months ago. Buy generic, less than $10 at Walmart. Give it a try if Movantik has failed you!"

For Constipation, Drug Induced "Been on opioids for a few years. Taking Miralax for constipation. Dr. asked this month how my constipation was going. When I mentioned going twice a week, she seemed to think that wasn't good, so gave me samples of Movantik 25 mg. Took it for the first time before dinner, and it worked great! Thought I would just take it when feeling constipation. A few days later, took a morning dose. I used the bathroom fine, but afterwards, oh the pain! The worst stabbing lower intestine pain I've ever felt. It came in waves for hours. Bent over thinking of going to the ER. I've been impacted before and had to go to the ER. So embarrassing, but would choose that over Movantik every time!"

For Constipation, Drug Induced "I have been on 100 mg of methadone for almost 4 months, and my constipation has been miserable! It got to the point where I was so bloated that my pants were not fitting, and I had to buy new ones because of all the stool in my stomach. Well, I got desperate and asked my doctor for help, and after being prescribed lesser stimulant laxatives and Colace to no avail, I landed on Movantik. I took it after I ate dinner (2 hours after, as instructed), and I ended up going to bed only with a slight cramp in my stomach. I am positive it was not due to the med, it felt as if my intestines were waking up and beginning to work again. When I woke, I had the best, most normal BM ever. I am so happy with this med, 12/10. I will update if anything changes. 9/3/16"

For Constipation, Drug Induced "I have been on a small amount of Methadone, 5 mg twice daily. I can only go to the bathroom like 1 - 2 times a week, and then it's little hard balls. I took Movantik, 25 mg 1 time and went within 1 hour. That would have been okay, but then a few minutes later my stomach hurt, I mean really hurt. I was in tears. Then I went again. Well, I have gone so much it is pure water now, and I will not take this again. I would be scared to try the 12.5 mg. No withdrawal symptoms, but the runs. Well, the last time I had this that bad my kidneys were shutting down, so I fear for this. Cannot eat or drink anything, it runs right through me... Be careful, I would try the lower amount first and see how that goes."

For Constipation, Drug Induced "I've been taking opioids for back pain for almost a year, so I've been dealing with constipation for about the same length of time. I took Movantik last night for the first time, and within an hour I had a racing heart, shortness of breath, and a throbbing headache. Now, 20 hours later, I'm so irritable I could spit and can hardly think straight. 24 hours of anxiety, cramps, and nausea! I'm so grateful to see these reviews because I don't feel alone and crazy."
