For Constipation, Drug Induced "I am on opioids for chronic back pain. I used Miralax and Metamucil, but my bowel movements were irregular, and I felt like I was emptying out and backing up. I tried 25 mg on an empty stomach at 3 pm yesterday for the first time. I started having cramps. I called my doctor and added a suppository. Twenty minutes later, I had a massive bowel movement over 30 minutes. None after that. This morning, I woke up in withdrawal, feeling cold, nauseous, having abdominal cramps, horrible pain, and generally feeling lousy. It was odd as my last pain med dose was six hours before, and I do not usually get withdrawals that quickly. My morning pain meds fixed the withdrawals, but I was still in significant pain until 1 pm after the second pain med dose at 12. It seems to decrease the pain-reducing effects of opioids."

For Constipation, Drug Induced "I have been taking opiates for 2 years now, but as soon as I started taking morphine, everything came to a halt. I hadn't had a BM in over 8 days. I took the Movantik, and nothing happened at all the first day. I took another one the next, still nothing. I woke up the next morning, and yeah, I had some cramping and gas pain, but I also emptied my bowels of what seemed to be an entire week's worth of poop. Yes, it hurt, but not because of the drug. It hurt because, unfortunately, my movement had hardened and was difficult to pass. However, the relief I felt after all was said and done is amazing. I am having regular-sized, normal movements now. None of the withdrawal symptoms, and none of the extreme discomfort like gas, vomiting, or cramps."

For Constipation, Drug Induced "I've had very severe constipation for years due to my daily need for oxycodone and morphine. I've tried everything with little relief, so that's why I gave this a try. It was the worst day of my life! I took it first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. About 30 minutes after taking it, I had a bowel movement... yeah, right? About 2 minutes after, I started having SEVERE intestinal cramps! So bad I could hardly breathe! I also got severe chills and had goosebumps all over my body. I continued to have a bowel movement every 15-20 minutes for the next 3 hours. The whole time, having extremely painful cramping, nausea, sweats, chills, goosebumps... It cleaned me out, that's for sure. But it was not worth the pain, and it wiped me out the whole day!!"

For Opioid-Induced Constipation "I think it’s crazy that medicine specifically prescribed to opioid users will cause opioid withdrawal. Forget that! Take Linzess! I’ve been on Suboxone for 3 years. I’ve had terrible constipation, and when I would finally go, it would be rock solid and extremely painful. Linzess has been life-changing. I go every day. I’m on the highest dosage, the low dosage did absolutely nothing at all. Being constipated is a big deal. It’s awful! My heart goes out to anyone who suffers from it."

For Opioid-Induced Constipation "Worst medication I've ever tried. It gets rid of your constipation but also causes horrible withdrawal. At first, I thought everything was fine. Six hours in, I had gone to the toilet four times. I was okay except for some stomach pain, which I expected. After eight hours in, I had the most horrendous cramps of my life. My whole body ached. I was nauseous. As time goes on, I realized I was in full-blown withdrawal. I started shivering. The cramps, pain, and diarrhea were horrible. Twelve hours in, I can't leave the toilet. My pain's unbearable. I felt I had nothing left to evacuate, but I keep just cramping up. My entire body is shaking. FYI, I take 30 mg oxycodone IR every three hours and Norco 10 four times daily. Movantik has made this ineffective. I'm writing this in the hopes that you do not take this drug. I was going to the bathroom every morning with just Miralax. My insurance company decided to stop covering it. But I'll figure out I'll just buy the Miralax. It's the next morning now, and finally, it's over except for residual cramps."

For Opioid-Induced Constipation "This stuff, Movantik, is a lifesaver. I take Percocet 10-325 twice a day for a blown-out disc while I'm waiting for surgery. I'm 45. So, I've been on these opioids for about 1.5 months, and the side effects from the opioids, this constipation and resulting anal fissures (blood), are a real problem for me. I had some success with regularity using mini enemas, but was still backed up! First day, I took Movantik early in the morning with coffee and had one good BM. Next day, I took it late afternoon and nothing. Next morning, I took my third dose first thing (with coffee, before opioids) and within 4 hours, had 3 BMs. I'm not crampy at all. The only side effects for me are I feel sweaty, and I have to wait until after BMs to take my opioids. Worth it!!!"

For Constipation, Drug Induced "I have a spinal cord injury and have been taking methadone for nerve pain and oxycodone for hip pain for over 15 years. I had been using Miralax, but it was not as effective as I would like. The doctor recommended Movantik, and I figured it couldn't hurt to try it. Was I ever wrong. The warnings about methadone users are very accurate. Within 2 hours, I was doubled over in pain, in the bathroom for nearly 2 hours while my body cleared out. To the point of practically urinating from my butt. It was excruciating, cramps, nausea, severe sweating, and I had pressure in my head for about 6 hours. I was very ill and out of it. I was extremely afraid, the pain was so severe I thought something was wrong. I was considering going to the ER but couldn't get off the toilet. I think this medication is dangerous."

For Constipation, Drug Induced "I've been on a high dose of methadone for 10 years. I have chronic constipation. I started drinking magnesium citrate every other day, and it helps 100%. No pain or anything. Lately, I've needed to drink more and more, so I went to my doctor, who explained that it is really bad to drink magnesium citrate as often as I do, so she had me try this Movantik 12.5 mg. I took it, and after 15 minutes, I started feeling sick, my entire belly bloated out so much I looked about 7 months pregnant! Then I started violently vomiting. I went to bed, then woke up the next morning still bloated. I took another pill, again, on the 3rd day, I couldn't take it anymore, I was going on 14 days without a decent BM...tiny pebbles here and there, and whatever I could get out with a rubber glove wasn't enough! I got myself a bottle of magnesium citrate and drank the whole thing, plus lots of water to clean myself out, then attempted Movantik again. It did the same thing, Movantik made me sick and constipated worse than ever."

For Opioid-Induced Constipation "I've been on methadone maintenance for over four years. And I've been having problems pooping ever since. I heard about Movantik a couple of days ago, so I asked my doc about it, and I haven't felt this good in a long time. Other than having severe diarrhea for the first couple of days after taking it, it has been great."

For Opioid-Induced Constipation "Ok, I have been prescribed opioid pain medication for the past 17 years after I fractured my skull. I have literally been on every pain medication known to man! I was on Duragesic for 3.5 years-400 mcg every 3 days. All opioid pain meds cause constipation. I have tried many laxatives, however, NONE of them have worked at all! I saw the commercials for Movantik and asked my doctor about it. He prescribed the med for me, and I started taking it 3 days ago. Movantik works, at least for me. Two hours after taking the dose on the first day, I felt somewhat queasy and slight cramps. Wow! There was no explosion, no diarrhea, no unpleasant side effects. It just worked. I take Movantik in the morning an hour before I eat. Within 2-3 hours, I have a bowel movement, and that is the extent of the experience. I feel like a new man."

For Constipation, Drug Induced "Horrible! I've been on methadone maintenance for 2 years, and the past 8 months my bowels have stopped. I've used every laxative you can imagine, and finally got the courage to see my doctor. He gave me samples of Movantik, I read nothing but bad reviews, but desperate for relief, I took one 25mg tablet, and about 2 hours later it threw me into precipitated withdrawals. Sweats, chills, and everything else, the sad part is I didn't even get a bowel movement. I don't suggest this medicine for anyone, it's garbage!"

For Constipation, Drug Induced "Within one hour of my first ever dose (25 mg), I was in agony. Sure, I pooped, but then I kept on for hours (total of four). In that entire time, I had the most severe intestinal pain I've EVER had! Bent over, screaming, clutching a pillow hard against my gut, I was repeatedly having watery, brown, smelly feces fill the adult diaper and run down my legs!! I am now in hour four, it's less than it was. It comes in waves. Is there no antidote? No way to make it STOP???? The pain is making me short of breath. My neck and lower back muscles are like tightened ropes. WHEN WILL THIS END???"

For Constipation, Drug Induced "I have been taking Movantik for a year now. At first administration, I had some cramping from the stools moving within the intestines. They were a little painful in the beginning, but after continuing treatment, it is working good for me. I have a bowel movement every morning. I'm on Oxycodone 30 mg x 5 a day. Movantik was the only medicine that works compared to all others. I take it as soon as I wake up, an hour later a BM, then I’m good for the day."

For Constipation, Drug Induced "I started taking Movantik about 3 to 4 months ago. At first, it seemed to work great. Then, as weeks went by, I noticed that it did not seem to work as well or at all. I started taking the drug in the morning and then late at night, and usually, the second dose would work. Then, I noticed something strange where I would feel really sick, especially during the daytime. And I finally figured it out and realized it is the Movantik causing withdrawal symptoms. Not like complete withdrawal because I am on fentanyl patches. But enough of a withdrawal feeling where I cannot function at work. My recommendation is to not take this drug more than twice a week because it loses its potency. And only take this drug at night so you don't have withdrawal symptoms."

For Constipation, Drug Induced "I am on the second day of this medicine and am considering stopping it altogether. I take 100 mg of Morphine x2 daily and am currently miserable on Movantik. Whatever comes out of me is pretty much all liquid after it woke me multiple times to go to the bathroom after resting from severe stomach pain. I am now going to the bathroom a minimum of every hour for all 24 hours. I never thought a drug could make me so sick. I am in so much pain and so nauseous. I am going back to Miralax, at least with that, I know the minimum side effects on Miralax."

For Constipation, Drug Induced "I use Movantik as prescribed for what it is prescribed for opiate-induced constipation. Every time I take it, I get some gas, some pain, but never a BM. This is probably the mostly worthless medication I have ever used... Almost anything else is more effective than this giant placebo. It's expensive, and yet, cheap OTC drugs work SO MUCH BETTER."

For Constipation, Drug Induced "OMG! This is horrible! The cramps and bloating are the worst I've ever had! I suffer from multiple pain issues, fibromyalgia, severe neck and back pain with shooting pins and needles with burning down my legs, due to a failed back surgery. I'll take that pain over the pain I have from Movantik. I have been back and forth from the bathroom and sat on the pot till both of my legs are numb. Nothing's moving, but I'm having such bad cramps I can't move."

For Opioid-Induced Constipation "I hear a lot of horror stories regarding Movantik, but have not had any side effects, except for flatulence (gas) before going to the bathroom. I had a bowel impaction many years ago from an L4-5 fusion, and was never told that the Vicodin could back my bowels up. Long and short, I had a bowel impaction so badly, I could not go either way, and had to go to the ER to have it removed. It was the worst pain that I ever experienced in my life. I had an industrial accident around six years ago and have had several surgeries. I live in chronic pain and take pain medicine daily. I know how an impaction feels and was heading for another ER visit. Movantik 25 mg was my answer; I wish it was available 15 years ago! A bowel impaction is a serious issue to deal with. When you’re constipated, you sit a lot on the toilet and do a lot of pushing, which in turn causes hemorrhoids. One thing that I have learned follows: I don’t sit on the toilet until I feel the urge to expel my bowels. Sitting on the toilet causes a lot of pressure on the anus, and that in itself will cause hemorrhoids eventually. Let gravity do its job as it was intended to do! Good luck!"

For Opioid-Induced Constipation "I found Movantik to have worked well for me. No pains, just a reminder that if you feel you need to go, you need to move quickly. Not diarrhea either. It normally takes 1-2 hours after taking it, and I go 4-5 times usually, but not a bad experience, only relief. It really cleans you out well, and I feel great afterwards."

For Opioid-Induced Constipation "I took this drug at 8:30 pm. At 9:15 pm, I had to go to the bathroom due to H-O-R-R-I-B-L-E stomach cramps. Then it got WORSE!! At 10:30, I had to be taken to the ER and screamed so loud due to the pain my throat is raw. It took 4 shots to get me to stop screaming. I threw up all over the bed and floor. DO NOT take this med. There are so many other alternatives."

For Constipation, Drug Induced "I have chronic pain issues and have for years. I am on OxyContin & oxycodone. I have dealt with drug-induced constipation for years. I will NOT ever take another dose of this medicine. It's been several hours since I took my first dose, and I was surprised that I had a bowel movement within an hour. Regular, which was nice for once, then had to go again right away... and again... and again, and things got softer, then went to liquid. I went to bed around 1 am and was awoken with an urgency to go to the bathroom, only to find that I had 'wet' the bed by the bowel leaking while I slept for ONE hour. My bed was soaked, I was soaked. Not only was I humiliated like a child would be, but the diarrhea isn't stopping! From what I read, the best is yet to come!!"

For Constipation, Drug Induced "3 stars because it induced a BM. I had been constipated for a couple of weeks, not no BMs but few and incomplete, with bloating and discomfort. From reading the literature, I thought this might work after several hours. But, wham! One hour after taking (on an empty stomach to decrease systemic uptake), I had a large BM. Great, but then I got severe intestinal cramps. Thought I was going to perforate something. After a couple of hours, then watery explosive diarrhea the rest of the day. OK, it cleaned me out, but at the expense of great pain and inconvenience. I'll go back to Senna & Miralax. Perhaps my opioid intake is too high for this? It was tested on people taking morphine equivalents between 30 and 100 mg/day. I take more than that."

For Constipation, Drug Induced "Awful stomach pain that lasted hours. Very small amount of diarrhea. Not worth the pain. I threw the medication away, it was that bad. I didn't want to be tempted to take it again. It's really that bad. I wouldn't even bother halving the 25 mg tablet. Also, the fact that it seems to suck the options out of your body. I'm in more pain than before. Unfortunately, I had taken my morphine before this drug. Stay away from it, terrible medication."
