For Major Depressive Disorder "Severe depression, anxiety, insomnia, near-zero appetite for many months before mirtazapine. I tried Paxil, which made my vision vibrate. I tried Prozac and felt like a helium balloon during my waking hours. Waking from a 3-day period of taking two packs of OTC sleeping pills, I checked into the psychiatric ward. I spoke with a female psychiatrist and told her of my history and sensitivity to drugs. She gave me a 5 mg dose of mirtazapine and told me most people would be given 30 mg. I slept soundly and woke refreshed with a real appetite. After 3 days, I was sent home with some soltabs. After 4 months, I felt normal again and weaned myself off. I never took more than half a 10 mg soltab. Side effects were vivid, odd dreams, and slow starts to my days. That was in 2005. I hung on to some of the tabs and have sporadically dosed since then when I want to have a longer, deeper sleep and vivid dreams. 3 tabs left and worry about when the last dose is gone because I won't have an excuse to get more."

For Depression "The positives = less stressed and down and out. After a 6-month roller coaster, this seems to work better than the SSRI family. Not sure if to stay on 30 mg or taper down to 15 mg. The negatives = put on 4 kg in 3 weeks. Crazy (not in a good way) dreams. Angry ++ premature ejaculation. Very sore hands (joints)."
