For Insomnia "Prescribed mirtazapine 30 mg for insomnia. First night I fell asleep in 20 minutes. 'Slept' all night, not a 'good night's sleep.' Had strange dreams. Woke up but couldn't open my eyes. No energy, hard to get out of bed, slurred speech, couldn't walk straight. Didn't leave the couch all day. At 2 am (2nd night) took 15 mg, asleep in 20 minutes. The dog woke me up at 8:30 am, could barely get up, couldn't walk straight, dropped and broke a dish (never do that), stumbled back to bed, had a very tiring dream. Woke up at 12:30 pm, can't get up, can't open my eyes. It's 4:34 pm, and I'm still on the couch. Feel like a zombie, no energy, feeling mood swings, and more depressed. No way I could drive a car. Will try 7.5 mg tonight. My last attempt with this medicine."

Mirtazapine for Major Depressive Disorder "I was in another deep, dark place. Have been on Lexapro for years because I struggle with MDD. It seems the Lex doesn't help much like it used to. When I go downhill, my stomach is affected. I lose my appetite and can barely eat. I get these gnawing hunger pains and eat to get rid of them, but then shortly after, I'm hungry again, but nothing sounds good or tastes good. I'm afraid of trying new meds. It's so hard. So many don't help, and you have to be on them for quite a while to know if they work. I've tried several in the past, and they gave me chest pressure/pain. Unusual, but it happens. Didn't want to try Remeron, but I was desperate. God heard my many prayers and many who were praying for me! Started feeling better and eating normally within a week! Crazy dreams and shaky for a while, but that got better. Also, am gaining weight back that I lost."

For Post Traumatic Stress Disorder "I have been on mirtazapine for almost 2 months now at 15 mg for anxiety and PTSD. I take it before I go to bed because it does make me very drowsy. I get a good night's sleep with some crazy dreams, but not anything bad. It has helped my depression well, and I don't get as anxious when going to certain places. Although, I do take half a pill for certain situations if I have to during the day. My appetite did increase greatly, which was a benefit for me. Especially before bed, I can kill some donuts, but I have been able to control it better now over some time. All in all, it has worked well for me, and I recommend it for others with the hope they experience the benefits I have."

For Insomnia "I started this drug in 2013-2014 because I was an Iraq and Afghanistan war vet. I was manic as hell. Drinking 151 rum and running 5 miles a day, killing it. I was a US Army captain. I worked out twice a day. At age 38, I ran 2 miles in 12 minutes. I ate a lot and drank a lot and was 150 lb. I drank coffee all morning while chomping on Xanax like Skittles and felt great. Finally, I went nuts. Landed in the hospital. No more benzos, no coffee, no booze. Remeron, Depakote. Mirtazapine, at first, and still does put me in a deep, deep REM Cinderella coma sleep. And that feels great. But I get weird dreams, nightmares, vivid dreams, and weight gain. Waking up is slow and tough. But I feel rested. Weight gain, yes. For insomnia and mania, this drug will knock you out."

For Depression "I was prescribed this for depression and take 15 mg daily. I have an amazing night's sleep, at least 9 hours, so go to bed early so I am able to be alert the next day. I get restless legs just before falling asleep and am occasionally constipated and have quite vivid dreams, but the uplift in my mood is worth a few side effects."

For Anxiety "I have been taking Remeron for almost 2 years now. I suffered from insomnia my entire life, and I was 36 years old when I started taking it. I sleep like a baby now. I tried almost every other antidepressant on the market, they all made me manic and my blood pressure skyrocket. My doctor said this one is unique because it takes you down a few notches instead of giving you energy, which was great for me. Getting a good night's sleep is so important for everyone, especially with depression and anxiety. This helped me more than anything. I take 30 mg right before bedtime, I do have very vivid dreams, but that's something I can deal with. It truly started helping me within the 1st week. I used to feel lucky to get 3 hours of sleep at night, now I get anywhere from 8-10."

For Anxiety "I had been suffering severe anxiety for a long time. I tried Prozac. I had terrible side effects that put me off medication for many months. However, I got to the point where I was a mess. I was prescribed mirtazapine 15mg daily. I slept well from the first tablet. I had a few really odd dreams for a couple of nights, but I’ve gotten past that now. I am pleased to report things are getting better, and I’ve had no side effects. I, as a male, was particularly worried about sexual performance issues, which I had on Prozac, but I’m pleased to report everything works as it should! All in all, a very positive experience so far."

For Anxiety "I'm a 19-year-old male, anxiety disorder, and PTSD. Prescribed by GP who told me mirtazapine would help me sleep. Yeah, they make you sleepy in the first minutes. But I have terrible vivid dreams and nightmares. I get really angry at nothing, easily annoyed. Had discussions with my partner after the 1st dose. Then I took my 2nd dose yesterday, and today I woke up with suicidal thoughts, I don't wanna die. I woke up and felt so depressed and anxious! This drug is awful. I'm supposed to keep taking these, and today I should take my 3rd dose, but I won't. I don't want to harm myself."

Mirtazapine for Major Depressive Disorder "I have MDD, and my anxiety used to be really bad. The first week I took Remeron, I was knocked out on the first night and really groggy in the morning, and I remember being really hungry. I used to have a problem with my appetite, and I could never finish my food. I was at least 42 kg. But now I can finish my food, my appetite is really good, and I get enough sleep! Dreams are kind of weird, though. I read some bad reviews, but my experience has been great, and I’m on my 13th week, and the dosage is 30 mg. Just give it a few more weeks, and everything starts to get okay, and moods will start regulating like normal. If anyone else is taking this, do know that your appetite will increase, so get more exercise and watch what you eat!"

For Depression "I have recently started mirtazapine and read everything about it before I started taking it. I was very skeptical as I have heard a lot of things, bad things, about this medication. I have to say my experience is a good one. I started on 15 mgs, and my first night I slept like a log, but I took it a few hours before I usually go to bed. Just as well, it didn't work instantly on me, but when it did, I slept really well. I had some weird dreams, but nothing that I couldn't handle. I had the shakes for a while after taking mirtazapine, but what I didn't get is the vigorous appetite that a lot of people have experienced. It really seemed to help my depression and feel better than I have done for many years. I actually want to get out of bed now."

Mirtazapine for Depression "I've been taking Remeron for a little over a month now. Since taking it, I do sleep better, however, I have been having very strange, unusual dreams that I wouldn't regularly dream about. My dreams are more vivid and lifelike, although I know it's not real. Also, the day after taking the medication, I can't seem to fully wake up - like I never feel fully rested."

For Obsessive Compulsive Disorder "I was facing severe OCD and anxiety in the morning. After I took mirtazapine at night, the next day, anxiety was much lower in the morning. OCD also got better. But after a few days, when my body got used to it, its effect began to vanish. I increased the dose from 15 mg to 30 mg and then to 45 mg, but the same problem I experienced, i.e., it began to lose its efficacy as the time went by. Moreover, this medication caused the most scary and weird dreams. I also experienced severe restless leg syndrome and uncontrollable shaking of my limbs during sleep. As soon as I tapered it down, these side effects reduced. It may work initially controlling your anxiety, but not recommendable for longer use."

For Insomnia "Firstly, I'd like to start off by saying that I do not suffer from depression. Just really bad anxiety and insomnia. I find that this is helping me sleep at night, but I am still having to take extra strength melatonin on top of the mirtazapine. The sleep is great, but I've noticed one thing. I've been getting these crazy dreams only on the nights that I've taken melatonin, so clearly there's some sort of connection between taking it vs just taking mirtazapine. Last night, I thought I woke up, but I was in another dream (pre-lucid), which, to be honest, wasn't that scary. Mainly because it was a pretty cool dream, haha. Anyway, it's been a 50/50 chance of either having a nightmare or having a rad dream, and the following day I can remember the majority of the dreams. Just thought I'd mention my 2 cents' worth. As for being tired or groggy the following day, I'm actually fine. I take it right before dinner time, and by 8-9 am the next day, I'm good to go."

For Insomnia "Due to the stress and anxiety over my parents' ill health and my need to provide caregiving to them, I wasn't sleeping. Had restless leg syndrome as well as just plain not being able to get to sleep. My doctor prescribed Zoloft for the anxiety and lorazepam for my insomnia, which worked perfectly, but I discovered that I can't take benzodiazepines because of random drug tests at work, so he switched me to mirtazapine, 30 mg at night. It worked OK for 2 months, but now I'm back to where I was before. With the lorazepam, I didn't dream, I slept deeply and awoke refreshed and with no hangover. With the mirtazapine, it's hard now to fall asleep, and I have strange dreams. Appetite has also increased horribly, which defeats my weight loss goal."

For Depression "I have suffered from severe depression over the past 12 years and was on citalopram, which was not controlling my depression at all. Now, having had my meds changed two months ago, I am like a new person-no, I am like how I should be. I had a change in my mood after less than a week, and now I can look forward to a hopeful future. Unfortunately, I did suffer side effects, including very weird vivid dreams, feeling exhausted, confused, dizziness, vertigo, and increased appetite. All of these symptoms have now subsided, and I feel they were worth battling with to get to where I am now. However, I would not have been able to work during this period or make responsible decisions. Overall, I would recommend."

For Anxiety "I probably had GAD for most of my life, and a previous severely depressed episode was treated with Lexapro, which seemed to work OK. This time, Dr. said I had GAD, so I just started on mirtazapine. First night, took 7.5 mg. I still felt stoned till 3 pm the next day, but slept well. Next night, did about 3 mg, and it worked OK. Third night, 3 mg only lasted a few hours, so back to 7.5. For sure, dreams are wild, but it really improved my sleep. No appetite back yet, but it is still early."

For Anxiety "I was so scared to try these tablets. But I must say, mood-wise, I'm feeling fab. They do help you sleep better and have vivid dreams, but I've not had any scary ones! And they do make you feel like you don't want to wake up, but you soon get out of it once you're running around doing things. I looked them up on the net and saw nothing but scare stories. I started on 15mg and was terrified due to what I'd read. But they were fab! Then I went to 30mg, as people can start going downhill again on 15mg, it's completely normal. Then I went to 45mg, and they sent me loopy (high serotonin levels), but after 3 days back to 30mg, I was fine. I still get panic attacks, but pills won't fix that problem. Self-help and CBT therapy fix that apparently."

For Depression "Been on this medication for 3-4 months for depression and insomnia. Does not help me get to sleep at all. I'm up for hours trying to fall asleep every night, no matter what dose I'm on (started at 15, now at 45). I can't wake up most mornings, have to drag myself out of bed. Hasn't really helped the depression, just made me have even less energy to do anything productive. I eat so much, then feel so upset about my body due to the appetite change. I get really weird and vivid dreams - sometimes really bad nightmares that I can't tell if they are real or not. Changed my personality, even at my deepest depression points, I would still be funny and try to lighten up every situation. Now I'm irritable, can't talk to anyone, angry, just can't socialize."

For Depression "I started taking this medicine due to a bad bout of depression. The only side effects that I have had are very strange dreams (which isn't a bad thing, they're all funny dreams, no bad ones) and also finding it hard to wake up in the morning due to sleeping like a log. This usually lasts around 30 minutes, and I have to literally force myself out of bed, which is hard some days. On the plus side, after around 30 minutes, I feel refreshed and better than I have for a long, long time, and I would rate the treatment a success. One thing to note: if you drink more than a few pints of beer, it will not be the treatment for you, as it does not mix well with alcohol."

For Insomnia "Doctor prescribed mirtazapine for my anxiety, insomnia, and to help gain weight (30 mg). I had been on Celexa for other treatments, and it stunted my problem-solving and creativity processing. I asked to try something new, and this is way better. I sleep like a log, I've gained 15 pounds, and my head is clear. Cons: I have bizarre dreams, I gained weight fast, and I'm groggy after 8-9 hours of sleep. I'll shake if I miss the pill a few days. The pros definitely outweigh the cons. Taking the med 1-2 hours before going to bed seems to help with the morning groggy feeling."

For Insomnia "Taken for insomnia. Started on mirtazapine 7.5 mg because I am very wary of meds in general. That worked, then didn't, so I went to 15 mg. Great stuff. A deep night's sleep, BUT very vivid dreams (not nightmares) that I can recall to such an extent I found myself wondering if I had actually been awake! But I wasn't. Now 1 month in, and they still continue to work well. Yes, your appetite will increase instantly, but just eat fruit and be disciplined and never eat before bed."

For Major Depressive Disorder "Have been prescribed 15 mg Mirtazapine with Lamotrigine for severe bipolar depression/unipolar disorder GAD. Just to say if you're taking this medication with another as I am, unwanted side effects may be greater. Restlessness in legs and arms, cold sweats, vivid nightmares/night terrors, no appetite, no mental stimulation/dullness. These unwanted side effects should weaken over time since this medication is still pretty new in my system. I wish lots of luck to those who are really trying to treat their depression (if you've mentally been to hell and back). You're not alone, look at all these reviews!"

For Anxiety "I just love mirtazapine. I am a 21-year-old male. I am a college student and find it hard to work in everyday life. I am very socially anxious and find it hard to communicate with people and feel awkward around them. My friends are social, and whenever I see their posts on social media, I used to get depressed. In college, it's very important to communicate with people, but I always find it hard. I used to have negative thoughts, I thought I was ugly. When the problem got worse, I went to a psychiatrist. I have tried many SSRIs and SNRIs, such as Zoloft, Luvox, Paxil, Lexapro, Effexor, Cymbalta, vilazodone, and Pristiq, but nothing worked. Finally, the doctor prescribed me mirtazapine, and within two weeks, I felt confident, I can do anything, negative thoughts stopped, appetite increased, anxiety was gone, and depression was gone. Now I love myself and got my life back again. I don't care about what people say. Mirtazapine is great for me. The first two weeks were hard, I used to have nightmares and vivid dreams. My dose is 7.5 mg. Thank you, mirtazapine."
