For Anxiety "I started Remeron at 15 mg and 150 mg of Zoloft (by the way I’m 18). I had major anxiety and panic attack disorder, as a result, I wasn’t eating and lost 35 pounds. I became depressed and couldn’t sleep. So I gave Remeron a shot, this helped with eating (I gained all the weight back and more), but this didn’t really help with sleeping because I have major insomnia. If you’re curious about what it feels like when you take Remeron (or if you get nervous about how this would make you feel), it’s like taking Benadryl. Be aware that after a couple of days, you’ll feel tired and most likely sleep in. I hope this helps you! I wish you the best of luck."

Mirtazapine for Depression "If you have insomnia and lack of hunger, this drug may be a godsend for you. Unfortunately, it was a terrible experience for me. Literally made me sleep 11+ hours, made me super groggy and tired the entire day. The drowsiness and tiredness made my daily activities and work so hard to do."

For Depression "I was in a hell of a state, with thoughts of suicide constantly. I had never experienced feelings like this before. With help from a crisis center and my G.P., I was put on mirtazapine, increasing the dose gradually to 45 mg. It has helped me immensely. I am back to my old self. I have put on a couple of stones, and I do feel lethargic sometimes, but all in all, a small price to pay to get your life back."

For Depression "I have just been on mirtazapine for 7 days. Wow, the first 5 days I thought, what's going on? I slept like a log but continued during the day, no energy, could not be bothered to get dressed, no appetite. Now, the 6th day, I woke up and I am not as tired. I managed to have a shower and got dressed, and my mood feels calm and somehow lighter. Hopefully, the next few days will get better. Hope you all will see the light soon. God bless you all."

For Insomnia "I started taking this drug 5-6 years ago. At first, it made me really dizzy, like I was going to pass out. It still makes me dizzy, but I had really bad insomnia where I would hear people when I was sleeping. Plus, I used to be anorexic. Like I was 60-65 lbs before taking this. I was on 30 mg of this drug, and it made me throw up. I have always been tired even before taking this drug, so that doesn't bother me. I am now on 7.5 mg, and it works great, except that sometimes I cannot sleep. When I have alcohol on the weekends and at night I take this drug, I sleep really well. Sometimes I still feel dizzy, but I do not feel like I could pass out. My hands have always shaken even before taking this pill."

For Major Depressive Disorder "I took this medication, mirtazapine, for about a week for major depressive disorder. It made me EXTREMELY tired and foggy. I could barely do anything except sleep the entire time I was on it. The doctor said it would pass, but I couldn't wait for that to happen because I had to have the energy to go to work every day."

For Insomnia "I was prescribed this medication for insomnia, and while it made me stay asleep and be able to fall asleep, I was so tired for days. I could not function on the medication, it felt like it never wore off. The feeling was horrible. Even after I stopped taking the medication, it took roughly four days for the tiredness to wear off. (at 15mg)"

For Insomnia "I can click on all the above conditions, minus one. I was given Mirtazapine 2 years ago, to help gain weight, calm my nerves, my insomnia, etc. I'm still on the 15 mg once at bedtime, as this will knock you out. But I'll awake 2 hours later and be wide awake. Fine... never mind. Mirtazapine hasn't helped me. Knocks me out, I sleep 2 hours, then I am like a sluggish rag doll. I take Klonopin, also Trazodone. I'm more tired and feel frustrated. Or nothing... severe depression."

For Insomnia "Was prescribed Remeron for severe anxiety, depression, and insomnia. Did I sleep.... Oh yes... non-stop! I'd sleep right through all my alarms, through my hubby trying desperately to wake me up, and missed numerous days of work over it. Very vivid dreams. Take that back... they were nightmares, and I couldn't wake up! I weighed 124# when I started Remeron and within six weeks, ballooned up to 160#! Almost 40 pounds just because of the Remeron! I had no appetite, no energy, depression only got worse, and I was becoming a stranger to my husband and children because of my behavior habits (tired and nodding off all day - if I woke at all before 16 hours had passed, became snappy and irritable, and seriously got FAT!). It sucks... A LOT!!"

For Major Depressive Disorder "I used to have bad panic attacks and found it really hard to sleep before I was prescribed mirtazapine. The first few weeks of getting used to it were awful. I often felt dizzy and nauseated 10 minutes after taking it and collapsed once, luckily, a family member was there, and I was carried to my bed. After that passed, it worked amazingly for me. I haven't had a panic attack since having it, and I've found it a lot easier to sleep. I feel more calm and less paranoid than I used to. I went from a size 4 to a size 8/10, and it's been rough trying to lose the weight. I have only started taking control of it now. It gave me a huge appetite at the beginning, and I was constantly hungry. I've also noticed that I'm a lot more tired lately and have a lot less energy than I used to. Sometimes I also find it a little difficult to sleep. Another odd thing I have noticed: I dream almost every night and remember all of them. They are usually odd dreams, although I've gotten sleep paralysis a few times (I have a history of them)."

"I was on this drug for about 2 months, at 7.5 mg to increase my appetite and make me gain weight. I’m going to stop this drug cold turkey before I have to go back to work. It makes me sleep for 12-14 hours, and when I wake up, I feel extremely groggy, like I’m hung over, for 4+ hours. Then I feel normal, and it’s nighttime, and I have to take it again and go back to bed. As for weight gain, I started eating LESS when I took this. I was very motivated and getting a lot of stuff done, and once I started taking this, I was lazy, tired, and unmotivated."

For Anxiety "To the poster anon: 15 mg generally is a dose that just puts you to sleep. Higher doses are actually used for antidepressant therapy. That is why you are lethargic. I have experienced the same thing and have been on it the last 6 months. Drained of all energy every day. Now have worse anxiety, making the anxiety draining even worse."

For Post Traumatic Stress Disorder "I was diagnosed with PTSD. At first, I was on 15 mg of Valium a day (this kept me calm and clued on), then my doctor put me on 15 mg of Mirtazapine. I found it turned me into a moody, brain-dead zombie the next day, even if I had it at 6 pm at night, I wouldn't be out of bed until at least 12 pm the next day, and I would still be tired. I ended up putting on heaps of weight, having worse mood swings, and trouble falling asleep when I was on Mirtazapine. I have PTSD, but I am NOT depressed. I tried to explain this to my doctor, but she didn't pay much attention. I'm wondering if that may have something to do with the way my body reacted. Personally, I prefer 15 mg of Valium, I'm calm and can still function 100%."

For Anxiety "Total nightmare. I couldn't sleep, had awful nightmares of something that happened to me nearly 20 years ago, dry mouth, chapped lips. The tiredness was unreal. I only took it for two nights, and this happened. Imagine if I stick it out any longer. Keep away from this drug, it's dug up my past, and now I have to deal with this all over again. I'm distraught from it."

For Anxiety "Depression and anxiety all my life. My anxiety is pretty bad, to the point of paralysis. It's really ruining my life. Feels like I will faint often, body tremors, lethargic, panic attacks... And I have social phobia as well. I have tried a lot of meds for the past 20 years. Now I'm taking 1 mg of clonazepam at 10 a.m. and 0.5 mg before bedtime with 30 mg of mirtazapine. Mirtazapine is a very strong drug. I started with 1/4 of the lowest dose, and it knocked me out right away. I like it because it helps a lot with my insomnia. Once you pass the side effects, it's not too bad. But I wouldn't take it during the day as I find it hard to think after taking a dose. The mornings are rough. Feels like a bad hangover. But so far it's the best combo for me. If I take more than 30 mg, I start to get the side effects while I was on Paxil, Lexapro, and Effexor. I gained over 50 lb in one year, which sucks... Good luck to you all."

For Depression "I went on this for depression. I was excited about it because I was also very, very underweight, and my Dr. said it would help me gain weight and get healthy and happy again. Took it, and it was like I'd been tranquilized. I felt myself passing out and could barely get my laptop off of my lap and onto the floor in the time it took to fall asleep. I felt like I was hammered. I was all giggly and tired. Fell asleep and slept for many hours. Had to stop it after less than a week because I couldn't wake up. Had no concept of time. For the next week after I stopped it, vision was hazy, and I was dizzy and felt very high. Never again! Very scary experience. Sure helps with sleep though!"

For Insomnia "Bye bye insomnia. The good outweighs the bad for me at least. After having anxiety attacks after going so long without sleep, I am finally at peace. I am sleeping not much longer after taking 7.5 mg of Mirtazapine. The lucid dreams are a plus. I have woken up crying from nightmares (a family member just passed). I am back to sleep within 10-20 minutes. These cravings suck. I'm going to try to fight [some] urges. I came up with drinking sixteen ounces of water before each time I stuff my face and staying in motion. 3 pounds gained this month. The worst part, in my opinion, is getting up to start my day. I feel exhausted, craving more sleep. I push through that even if that means starting my day off slowly. I'M SLEEPING AGAIN!"

For Depression "Six weeks in on this stuff and I can't say I've noticed a massive difference. For one day, I had euphoria, everything seemed OK again, my problems seemed a challenge, and I was filled with joy from 'waking up' from a fearful monochrome life. Then, after that initial carefree break, I was mostly back to normal with slightly less depression. I'm staying as positive as I can, though, crying less, feeling less overwhelmed, and battling things that make me uncomfortable. Avoiding 30 mg for as long as I can. Serotonergic drugs = tired and transiently 'drunk'/disconnected, at least for me. For now, 15 mg is my crutch for getting through the day. Things suck ever so slightly less now."

For Depression "When I was taking mirtazapine, it worked very well and very fast. My depression completely disappeared. I ended up stopping the medication slowly several months later after I had gained 40 pounds. When I stopped, my appetite went away and I barely eat now. I was not feeling well the last couple of months. Very tired and anxiety and hot flashes. Come to find out I am now prediabetic. My blood sugar is really hard to keep up at a normal level. I loved the medication except that I gained so much weight so quickly, and now I am stuck with blood sugar problems."

For Anxiety "I have suffered anxiety/depression beginning in 2017. I ended up with amitriptyline because it helped me get sleep, and the other side effects were tolerable. It never did much for the anxiety but did help minimally with the depression. Fast-forward to July 2021, sick of being tired every morning, I quit taking it. Relapse into anxiety, bad moods, and general dissatisfaction with life. I decided to research meds again and found mirtazapine. Started taking 7.5 mg a week ago, quitting amitriptyline cold turkey. The last couple of days have been nothing short of remarkable. The searing anxiety feeling in my stomach and chest is gone. I am sleeping well, although a bit tired in the morning, and the tired eyes feeling seems to stick around all day. Easy trade-off... I have some pretty good dreams, but they are always benign. Everyone reacts differently, but I am surprised the overall rating isn't higher. I will be sticking with mirtazapine and hope to get back to a 'normal' life."

For Anxiety "So, I started taking 15 mg of mirtazapine, but only half, 7.5, as at the time (6 months ago), I was under 18 years of age, and my doctor was extremely cautious about me taking this pill. Anyway! I started taking them maybe just over 6 months actually, and my behavior and attitude & anxiety have gotten much, much worse. I wouldn't recommend anyone take this pill, as I have stopped sleeping as much, I have felt like I can't go out, just altogether I feel like a zombie. Having to deal with the insomnia as well as the anxiety as well is not a good combination. I've had to start taking sleep aid as well as this drug because I feel constantly tired, I'm very pale all the time, and I don't feel the benefits of this drug."

For Major Depressive Disorder "Started on 15 mg 1 week ago now. My very first impressions were awful - I was so tired and groggy, as well as ravenously hungry. I am not sure why I was given this drug; I specifically said I do not have trouble sleeping; in fact, I sleep too much when I am low, and I am overweight to boot. Now I have a great excuse to retreat to bed because I am tired a lot of the time, and when I am not tired, my brain feels foggy and my short-term memory is fuzzy. I do physically demanding work that I can't keep up with well at the moment. As for my mood, I am definitely more irritable and no less low so far, but I will give this another week and see what happens."
