For Insomnia "I have struggled mightily with insomnia due to anxiety. Been on 7.5 mg for just over a year, and have made significant progress in that time. Feel very tired normally within an hour or so of taking it and generally have slept well with far fewer exceptions. Not sure it really does anything for anxiety/depression. But I also am taking escitalopram during the day. Would certainly recommend mirtazapine for anyone struggling with insomnia."

For Anxiety "I have bad anxiety for years and I tried a few meds but they weren't working for me. Now I am on Mirtazapine 15 mg. I only take one pill at night. The first night I felt great, a little tired but the anxiety stopped. The second night was a little different. I had a few anxiety attacks but I managed to control them. I feel really tired and have a few attacks during the day but not as bad as before. I'm going to give this medicine a try and I'm going to have to go to therapy as the doctor told me it will help, since I have been diagnosed with anxiety for years. I pray this will help me and get my life back. Good luck to all of you that are having tough times with anxiety and depression."

For Anxiety "At age 65, I experienced my first panic attack this year, it just came out of the blue and was obviously a buildup of life’s general work and living issues. I was prescribed mirtazapine. The first tablet I took was 15 mg, I slept through the night. The next day, as I stood in the bathroom having a shave, I couldn’t understand how the taps on the sink worked and how to switch the water off, or where the water was coming from, everything was totally confusing. I had to go and lay down and was clammy, gray, drowsy, and sweating. I never touched the tablets again for 2 months. I then decided to try the prescription again and broke the 15 mg into 4 and took a quarter of a tablet. I had an okay sleep, but the next day I was totally zombified and struggled through the whole day with my eyes half shut and had to sleep in the afternoon. Still very tired and irritable after 19 hours."

For Depression "I’ve been on and off of it since I was just 12 years of age. Now I am 23. It is the only medication that helps me. It has pulled me out of psychotic episodes, and it has brought back my appetite when I’ve been unable to eat, and it helps me sleep. It aids with anxiety, and even though it’s typically prescribed for anxiety and depression, it has undeniably helped with my bipolar disorder. This medication is a miracle worker, and although everyone operates differently, I feel it’s worth a try. It will make you incredibly tired at first, hence why it’s given to you at night. Due to this, the first week or so, it will make you fairly lethargic, as well as enhance your appetite. I feel the side effects personally didn’t outweigh the pros, but everyone is different. I’d highly recommend this medication."

For Depression "I am taking 15 mg each night as a sleep aid and an accessory drug to SSRI. Before I started taking it, I read all the negative opinions online, and I panicked. After a few days of taking it, I almost stopped due to its overwhelming effect of extreme tiredness and feeling like I could sleep for 12 hours a day and still be sleepy the day after. But I decided to still give it a try - and I don't regret it. I feel like this drug is a miracle for me: it calms my anxiety in the evening, and evenings were the worst part of my day (my psychiatrist told me it's unusual for patients with depression, as they tend to find it difficult to get up. I always found the evenings way worse). It enables me to get decent sleep at night. You know, don't believe everything you read on the internet. Maybe this drug will work for you, maybe it won't. Maybe it will meet your expectations, so just give it a try, wait 2 weeks and see."

Mirtazapine for Major Depressive Disorder "No matter how much sleep I got, I was constantly tired. I could barely function during the day. And when I was functioning, I wanted to eat everything. In 2 months, I ended up gaining 15 lbs, which definitely did not help with the depression."

Mirtazapine "I’d actually give Remeron a 9.5/10 for insomnia and anorexia. It has been amazing for me, personally. But I’ll say this first: I can’t give it a perfect score because I take only a 1/4 tab (tabs are 7.25 mg, I believe) of it every night before bed, and it makes me a little tired the next morning after waking up. But either way, I’ll take it! With that being said, I sleep so well. Turns out anxiety (and depression) kept waking me up at night. But with Remeron, I go into a deep sleep and don’t wake up till it’s time to do so. I dream like crazy, too (good thing). Not sleeping had kept me in a vicious depressed cycle. Sleeping is extremely important and can affect your mood. Remeron takes care of both: appetite and sleep. It’s a wonder drug! Although, I do crave sweets a lot, but again, I’ll take it!"

For Anxiety "Have been on 15 mg mirtazapine for 2 weeks. Second try on this drug. Shaking. Trembling. Nauseated. Exhausted and zombie-like. Panicky. Rapid heartbeat. Freely agitated and angry. Keep clear of this. Want my Zoloft back."

For Anxiety "Would not recommend. First night taking 15 mg, within a very short time, felt really dizzy, wobbly, unsteady, and staggered as I walked. Had to go straight to bed, felt really awful, and then had terrible restless and throbbing legs that lasted hours and hours. Felt overwhelming tiredness, and the next day slept all day, and legs felt heavy and achy."

For Anxiety "I’ve been on mirtazapine 15 mg for almost 2 years for anxiety linked to menopause (and relationship worries) and have been taking it nightly to help mainly with sleep. Excellent for sleep as I was struggling massively before starting this, although I do tend to feel a bit tired during the day, particularly at weekends. I’m a teacher, so tiredness during the weekdays is usually negated by the demands of my job! As I’m naturally thin, I haven’t noticed much in the way of weight gain apart from normal middle-age tummy increases. I think that this is a great medication for use to support sleep issues and has gotten rid of the awful tummy butterflies I used to experience. I recently decided to reduce down to 7.5 mg, but anxiety began to creep in again, so I went back to 15 mg. If I have to take it long-term, so be it as it’s worth it. One negative is dreadful dry mouth first thing in the morning, as well as a bad taste, but it soon disappears."

For Insomnia "Prescribed mirtazapine 30 mg for insomnia. First night I fell asleep in 20 minutes. 'Slept' all night, not a 'good night's sleep.' Had strange dreams. Woke up but couldn't open my eyes. No energy, hard to get out of bed, slurred speech, couldn't walk straight. Didn't leave the couch all day. At 2 am (2nd night) took 15 mg, asleep in 20 minutes. The dog woke me up at 8:30 am, could barely get up, couldn't walk straight, dropped and broke a dish (never do that), stumbled back to bed, had a very tiring dream. Woke up at 12:30 pm, can't get up, can't open my eyes. It's 4:34 pm, and I'm still on the couch. Feel like a zombie, no energy, feeling mood swings, and more depressed. No way I could drive a car. Will try 7.5 mg tonight. My last attempt with this medicine."

Mirtazapine "Remeron was the third medication I tried for new onset of anxiety and panic attacks. I had never experienced anything like this in my life, I was desperate for help. I tried Buspirone, but it didn’t really work well, and I had dizziness and ringing in my ears. I tried Prozac and had horrible side effects of panic. Lexapro made me extremely tired and caused headaches. I took at-home blood tests to see what meds would work best. Finally, I tried Remeron. I had bad dry mouth for a few weeks and at each dose increase, but it got better over time. It helped to split the dose: 15 mg in the morning and 30 at night. It has helped a lot with my anxiety and gave me my appetite and sleep back. I had to take a low dose of Ativan as needed while my Remeron dose was being titrated. So now I only take Ativan a few times a month and not every day! I am so thankful for that. I don’t like being on medications, but I knew I needed it at least until I get through this tough time in my life."

For Insomnia "I took 7.5 mg, and it worked. Had a great night's sleep. Felt very, very tired and sluggish all day. Have read multiple reviews that say this should subside. I will cut the 7.5 in half for tonight to see if I can get the sleeping results without the exhaustion the next day. I don't take any meds more than I absolutely have to."

Mirtazapine for Depression "So I’ve been taking mirtazapine for a while after being hospitalized for anxiety and depression, and it helps knock me out to sleep good and stop waking up in the middle of the night. It makes you sleep a lot, and it’s hard for me to want to get up to go to classes. It makes me feel really tired throughout the day, but it does help with anxiety and depression. I’m overweight, and I’m kinda scared it will make me gain even more. It makes me more hungry all the time."

For Anxiety "Started taking mirtazapine a month ago for generalized anxiety disorder. This drug really helped me in a number of ways. My insomnia disappeared, my anxiety was greatly reduced allowing me to carry out day to day activities without living in constant fear of my anxiety raising its ugly head. The first two weeks I felt very tired and hungry, but after that my mood was greatly lifted and I could enjoy life once again."

For Depression "In one night, my life changed. I passed out without any reason, and the next day I was depressed, I couldn't eat or sleep. I was extremely tired, and my blood pressure was very high. I also had regular heart palpitations. After several medical examinations, I was put on mirtazapine: Effect on sleep: works instantly. Sometimes I did get weird dreams, but after 4 weeks, this also passed. Effect on depressed mood: it took 2 weeks before I experienced that my mood was getting better, after 4 weeks, my mood was good. Effect on appetite: you get hungry, but not very extremely. Side effects: the drug makes you extremely tired, but this took exactly a month before it wore off. Now my energy is completely back. I am on this medicine for 6 weeks."

Mirtazapine for Depression "This Remeron has legit saved my life after suffering with BPD, GAD, PDD, PTSD. At first, it made me very sleepy and tired, but after taking it for some time, I felt tired but not to the point of passing out tired. I started at a dose of 7.5 mg Remeron and worked up to a 30 mg dose, and when I did, my mood stabilized, and I started to feel better than how I did before. I still have intense moods, but not to the degree as I used to."

For Anxiety "I switched from being on sertraline (Zoloft) for 4 years to mirtazapine because sertraline caused a stomach ulcer. It was hard to get used to mirtazapine as I felt dizzy and very tired for almost 2 weeks. I slept 12-14 hours a day, and even more over the weekend. I've always struggled with sleeping too little, this only got a little bit better over time, and therefore I decided to stop as there was little left of the day. Also, I was constantly hungry, particularly for chocolate, and gained probably about 2 kilos over 6 weeks' time."

For Insomnia "I was prescribed Mirtazapine for depression, as I had tried Zoloft and Lexapro, and the side effects were too much. My first night taking the 7.5 mg of Mirtazapine was terrible! After sleeping almost 12 hours, I woke up feeling extremely exhausted and tired, drunk and disoriented, and totally out of it. I also felt anxious and irritated. I stayed awake for a couple of hours thinking the tiredness would wear off. WRONG! I went back to sleep and slept another 4 hours and felt the same way. And, as others have mentioned, I had munchies and cravings for sweets. After all of that sleep, I still felt exhausted and out of it. I felt so concerned I called my doctor because nothing has ever made me feel like this, and I am very sensitive to medication. I will not continue this medication after just one night. I can’t push through feeling like a zombie for a week or two, even if in the end, this medication does work."

For Anxiety "I just started this medication Monday. Before I started taking this, my anxiety was terrible. Didn't want to leave the house or interact with anyone, wasn't eating for days, shaky, hands sweaty, mind was racing 24/7, leaving me with no sleep and constantly trying to occupy my mind. Insomnia runs in my family, and I was crying randomly. My therapist believes I may have manic depression, and I've had GAD for most of my life. I take half of 7.5 in the morning and before bed, as well as Gabapentin 100 mg morning and night. I would say the first 2-3 days I was really tired and slept through the night, did not have anxiety, but mood is still the same. I'm now on day 7. I have energy through the day, I sleep well, but not as well as the first couple of days, and my anxiety is back, but just a tiny bit where I can notice it enough to not want to leave the house. I will update in a couple of weeks if it's changed or a couple of weeks if dosage increase has changed anything."

For Depression "My first week experience taking Mirtazapine 15 mg nightly. Night 1 - Slept for 14 hours straight. Woke up groggy, mind foggy with dry mouth, lethargy, and a voracious appetite. Not a good start. Nights 2-4 - slept really badly each night. By day 5, I felt like a zombie, slurring words and forgetting even the basics like people's names. Thought about calling the doctor and getting off this medication. Nights 5-7 - decided to take medication an hour before bed (instead of just before bedtime) BIG improvement. Woke up day 6 feeling refreshed, clear of mind, and full of energy. Still had the appetite and dry mouth, but I wanted to do things and the things I always enjoyed doing! Great feeling. This seems to be working for me. I will continue taking it."

For Anxiety "I've been on Remeron for 3 weeks now, and I feel somewhat better. I could not take other antidepressants because they made me a ton more anxious and out of it, like I wanted to crawl out of my skin. I've had a really tough time the last year and a half, and I'm hoping that this works for me. The only problem I'm having is I just can't seem to wake up in the morning, and I'm still feeling very lethargic all day. I'm very sensitive to all medications, so I have to move up very slowly. I just moved up to 18.75 mg, and I'm still really tired, and I have a hard time functioning during the day. My doctor said he is going to slowly move me up to 30mg. I guess I am just wondering if anyone else out there has gone through the same thing I am going through."
