"Metrogel is amazing - it works right away! Insert every night before bed for 5 days. When I have unprotected sex, semen throws off my pH balance. It's so annoying. The only negative about the medication is having white clumps, which is the infection cleaning out. You will see it days to a week after using the gel. The waiting to have sex again thing is super annoying as well. Also, you have to worry about it all over again if you don't use protection or have a partner pull out. Semen tends to throw off our ladies' pH balance often. I can't stand it! I wish there was a way to keep it balanced without using medication often, but yes, Metrogel will take care of it right away. Great recommendation!"

"I took one dose nightly for five days. I’ve also been taking a vaginal probiotic. On day 3, I experienced the most horrible anxiety I’ve ever felt. I was SO anxious. All five nights, I had insomnia. I was sweating like crazy the whole five days, SOAKING through shirts. Again, this could be due to increased anxiety? Other than anxiety, no sleep, and lots of sweat, I had the usual clumpy discharge. It is four days post-treatment, and I feel normal. I finally started sleeping normally two days post-treatment, and I am no longer sweating or anxious. I am still experiencing clumps of discharge only when I use the bathroom, no more discharge otherwise! This is my second treatment in one year, almost to the date. My BV did come back when I started having unprotected sex with someone I now deem to not be the most hygienic, this was 8 months later. Ladies, a lot of research points to high saturated fat diets. I have since cut out cheese and dairy and limit my sugar."

"I have had BV on and off for 30 years. MetroGel supp is not a good drug for me. It does not erase the odor. Ask for clindamycin. You also have to do one week on and one week off. If you have recurrent infections, you must continue to treat. Using an insert every 3 days is also helpful. I order meds from Mexico because doctors often tell me that it will go away. The odor is embarrassing and awful. Save your money on MetroGel. It's a waste of time."

"AVOID THIS DRUG IN ANY FORM. I got diagnosed with BV and started taking the oral metronidazole pills. By day 2, I was having horrible side effects: nausea, headaches, diarrhea, vomiting, tingling sensations in my body, cramps, metallic taste, dry mouth. I literally had a panic attack and was on my bathroom floor for hours. The doctor then prescribed the gel, and the side effects were the same! I barely slept, felt disgusting, and I had shortness of breath from being anxious. I’ve never had a drug make me feel so bad, and I’m unsure if I had an allergic reaction or not. (I am allergic to penicillin. Also, if you have anxiety, it will elevate from this product."

"I was a bit scared of using this gel at first as I read the reviews first. I went to a clinic for an STD check, which came back that I had BV. The lady gave me a little chat and handed me a box called Zidoval. The first night I used it, it interacted with my bipolar medication and made me feel unwell: fast pounding heartbeat, nausea, dizziness. Then the next four nights I used it without and felt fine. I ate before using it, which made a difference. As far as the BV symptoms, no discharge, no smell after the second night. Tonight's my last night using it, and I feel okay at the moment."

"I'm on my 4th night, and I don't like this stuff. It's not even leaking out, my stomach feels weird. It's not cramping, but it feels like my stomach is either tight, or my intestinal tract is having issues. It started yesterday. I'm sick of this, and I will never get on this medicine ever again."

"I wanted to share my experiences using MetroGel for BV. I’ve had several BV cases in the last year, and my doctor always prescribed metronidazole vaginal route for 5 days. Each time I take this medication, I became deeply depressed and anxious during the entire course of treatment, as well as physically sick. Once I finish the treatment, I start feeling myself again about 2 weeks later. There have also been a few times where the treatment was unsuccessful, and I had to be retreated a few weeks later. So I do not recommend. Ask for an alternative medication for BV, such as clindamycin."

"Light yellow/light green discharge. Urine NEG for UTI. Trich, Chlamydia, and Gonorrhea - NEG. Yeast candida - NEG. Gardnerella - (BV) POSITIVE. 5 days, insert gel at night. SIDE EFFECTS DAYS: 2 - Stuffy nose, sore throat, headache, 3 - Same as day two, 4 - Runny nose, congestion, slight sore throat and headache upon awakening, 5 - Congestion, no headache. No odor during the infection, only discharge. Always take a vaginal probiotic, maybe that helped combat any odor. Had a couple of White Claws each night with ZERO SIDE EFFECTS. No sex until medicine is done and there is no discharge. I believe it's due to unprotected sex, NO ejaculation. pH still becomes unbalanced. No BV issues if I'm not having sex. Also, just bought Balance Active BV treatment gel for the future. First time using and all reviews were extremely positive. Don't think the scientists work hard enough on a permanent solution. But, at least there are temporary fixes for now, I suppose."

"I’ve been using it for 5 days now, once a night at bedtime. It cleared the smell in one day, and the only side effect I have is clumpy white discharge. I’m planning on taking it for 7 days, then hopefully my BV will be cleared and the discharge will go away."

"My doctor said I have BV (bacterial vaginitis). She put me on the metronidazole pills. The next morning, I had a bad chest pain that she doesn't think was caused by the pill, but she changed it to the gel, and I still have the pain, and she's still saying it has nothing to do with each other."

"Currently using this medication, and it’s been a life-saver for me. I have been dealing with chronic BV since 2024, and I don’t think I’ll ever go back to the pills. I prefer the insert any day because I’m so sick of destroying my gut microbiome for a temporary solution. I’ve found using condoms with my partner helps me, but I know many of you would feel bleh about that. Either way, I’m hoping to try Happy V probiotics soon since I’ve heard they’re a godsend! All in all, I love this medicine. However, the weird clumpy white discharge is insane. Hope it goes away before I see my partner again when I’m done with the meds. (F22)"

"I always get BV in the beginning of my pregnancy. So I could barely wait until my 2nd trimester to get the 0.75 MetroGel for 5 days. By day 2, the odor and uncomfortable feeling were gone! Full disclosure, I had a headache on days 2 and 3. It’s day 4, and I’m noticing some white yeast-like discharge, but there was no burning or itching. So far, it has been successful, and I'm happy it’s considered safe for me and the baby."

"I get recurring BV and yeast. I use MetroGel for BV, and that gives me yeast EVERY time. It takes months to treat my yeast infection because I don’t respond well to any yeast meds. It’s a nightmare. BV, yeast, BV, yeast for years. I am fit and healthy otherwise. It’s just miserable living like this. The gel sucks."

"I have been experiencing BV on and off for about the last 5 years. Flagyl (the pill) works almost immediately, however, it makes me feel sick to my stomach! My doctor prescribed the Metronidazole gel this time around and an antibiotic, Doxycycline. I am experiencing a thick white cottage cheese discharge, which I have never had, but reading everyone’s posts, it seems normal. I guess it is pushing out the bacteria."

"I have had BV many times over the years. The worst thing for me is the uncomfortable pain and itching. It started after menopause or once menopause started. If men have dirty hands, this can cause a problem, also, their mouth has so much bacteria and their semen. The best thing is to make sure you use a condom, especially if you have a new partner. MetroGel definitely works great, and no side effects for me. A little bit of discharge while using it and cramps, not bad though."

"A very expensive treatment. It comes with applicators that do not function properly. The applicator is too small to fit over the tube correctly, i.e., screw on to make an airtight connection. The gel will not fill the applicator properly, and most of it is all over the hands or on the floor. I honestly would expect a better method of dispensing, considering the cost. I have noticed a slight improvement after two applications. If I could have the full amount in the tube, that would probably sort out the problem."

"Okay, so I had BV, and first my doctor called in the topical gel, but after getting the vaginal gel, I started using it as per normal. 1 applicator per night before bed. Okay, I'm gonna say I noticed a difference in feeling overnight. It felt better after the first use, but day 3 and 4 I noticed a weird discharge. Like super weird. I just finished treatment a day ago and am still having this bizarre discharge. I mean, hey, I feel better, but do not be scared if your discharge is really thick and chunky. It kind of freaked me out at first, but I read that is a normal side effect and means it’s working, so. So I mean, my coochie feels clean. Solid 7/10 experience."

"I've suffered with bacterial vaginosis for years. It all started when I was 19. I got it with one man and then it went away after him and I broke up. Then I got it again in 2019. I'm currently 37 years of age and been with the same partner for four years. I've gotten recurring bacterial vaginosis on and off for our entire relationship. I do not want BV to ruin my sex drive, but unfortunately it has done so and also affected my relationship. I don't believe that I had separated, but I do believe it is a big factor. Unfortunately, the other day I had unprotected sex with him and I got it once again. I often ask myself if he was cheating on me during our four years of relationship. For whatever reason, my OB/GYN and my PCP say that a man cannot carry or reinfect a woman with bacterial vaginosis. I believe in the future, there's going to be studies debunking that theory. I will say that the pill seems to work faster, but the cream does just as well. The only downside is the thick clumpy discharge."

"Was diagnosed with BV early 2023, I had weird smells and just felt off down there. After all my tests came back negative, my GP believed it was BV. I tried the gel every night before bed for 5 days and, wow, cleared up and I was back to normal! No side effects and felt like me again! I’ve had to treat it a couple of times since (triggered from sex but also out of nowhere) but this time round, have had the similar white clumpy discharge coming out (didn’t get that the first couple of times) that others have mentioned. Haven’t tried the oral tablet just gel and honestly wouldn’t change. The gel gets the job done and restores the balance in a quick and direct way!"

"Haven’t taken this gel before in my life, but was prescribed it, but read reviews before I did and was not about to make my body go through the side effects until I tried natural remedies, and I have to tell you, eating yogurt with L-Acidophilus helped a ton! I’ve had BV for 7 months and tried everything, but nothing worked, and I promise this did. After eating Greek yogurt for 3 mornings straight, the smell and discharge lessened by a lot! The smell, especially, not at all as bad as it used to, and I’ve been going about my days comfortably. I don’t like plain Greek yogurt, so I add honey or berries. I don’t want to eat it every day, but will probably do it 3 to 4 times a week. Plus, it’s good for you! I researched crazily, and everything points to the yogurt adding back the healthy bacteria in the vagina, so I’m hoping it continues to help. I read probiotics work wonders too, so I’ll be buying the pills soon! Hope this helps! It has been a horrible 7 months! (28 yrs old)"

"First time taking this. Worked after day one. The only thing I was concerned about was that I had a discharge that I couldn't explain. White clumpy stuff with some blood in it. But after reading reviews, seems normal. Some pelvic discomfort and back pain. Overall, liked it better than Flagyl."

"First time ever using the gel in my entire 48 years. And I am one that gets BV at the slightest change. But I was recently told by my doctor that some women are 'allergic' to certain men's semen! Who would have thunk lol just thought I'd post that and maybe it will help some to better understand why they get recurring BV"

"I went to the doctor for an extremely painful UTI and kidney infection. It wouldn’t go away after 2 rounds of Augmentin. I was miserable for 2 months and grasping at straws for relief. She offered to do some cultures for me just in case, as well as giving me Bactrim. I ended up testing positive for BV. I wasn’t having symptoms, or so I thought! I get yeast infection symptoms, itching, and thick discharge a few days before and after my period every single month. I get a stabbing pain inside my vagina randomly. This has gone on for 2 years! I’m hoping that it’s the BV and this stuff helps! I’m on day 4 and also on my period. I do have chunky discharge. My period is about over, but I’m still wearing a pad because I have brown/reddish discharge throughout the day and when I pee there are bits of red/bloody discharge in my urine. Hoping for the best!"

"I went to the gynecologist for a Pap smear and was told I had BV. I was prescribed Diflucan and MetroGel once daily for 5 days at bedtime. I would say I started to feel better within 2 days of use—itching and abdominal discomfort went away. Today, on the third day, I started to notice clumpy white discharge. Reading other reviews, this is the body flushing out the infection, so I really don’t mind it. If you’re used to using tampons, this will be very easy to apply, as the applicator is basically like a longer, skinnier tampon applicator. It’s hard to say whether or not it has caused side effects because I am also currently sick. I will say I’ve had a consistent but not unbearable headache since beginning treatment, but again, this could be due to other factors. All in all, I’ve had a positive experience and hope to keep this at bay once I finish the 5-day course."
