"I was prescribed a 10 mg dose of medroxyprogesterone for 10 days to start my cycle as we try to conceive. The 10 days were kind of weird - lots of mood swings, cramps, and headaches. By day 4, it seemed to normalize, but then it did seem to make me feel lousy days 6-8ish again. I think by the end I had just gotten used to it. I woke up with my period on day 3 of not taking it. I will say, this is one of the worst periods I have ever had (remaining positive as I’m hopeful we will conceive this cycle!). Cramps are really bad, and the flow is the heaviest it has been in years. Just a heads up!"

"I lost my job because of this medicine, and I'm an epidemiologist in infectious disease medicine. It has been one hard year. Last August 2018, I took 10 mg for 5 days. The treatment was for 10 days, but I couldn't finish it because of the side effects. Landed two times at the ER. I had taken this before (age 20, 26-nothing happened, but at 29-ouch). Please be careful with hormones. I have no idea how this medicine is legal. Doctors don't ever discuss details, and then they wash their hands as if nothing happened. I warn every single female I see and have spoken to other scientists in my field about it. It's best to diet/exercise, do natural teas. Symptoms: anxiety, depression, tremors/interior buzzing 24/7, overheating body temperature, memory loss, headaches, cramping, lightheadedness, sleepiness, weakness, lack of concentration-I could go on. Save yourself from losing your job and your health."

Medroxyprogesterone "I am 20 years old and have had an irregular period my whole life. It was recently discovered that I have PCOS. I was placed on Provera for five days to essentially kick-start my period. Well, it worked. Two days after taking the last pill, I had a normal period start. Now the last three days have been extremely heavy flow with strong cramping and some nausea."

Medroxyprogesterone "Before I was on the Depo Provera shot, I had extremely painful periods. Periods that were so painful, sometimes I would have to miss work. I would literally be doubled over in pain all across my lower abdomen, ibuprofen sometimes didn't help. This had been going on for several years, but last December I had enough and decided to get the Depo Provera shot. I have been period-free for several months now, and I feel so much better. I am one of the lucky few who hasn't really experienced any side effects. The Depo shot has been a miracle in my life: no more painful periods!"

Medroxyprogesterone "Although this medication helped me restart my menstrual cycle, the side effects of this drug are horrible: numbness in arms while sleeping, fatigue, muscle aches, chest pains, itching, very bad mood swings, gas/bloating, weight gain, etc. There was a spot of blood on my pillow one morning after I stopped taking this pill - I don't know if it came from my nose or ears. Also, this drug depletes you of nutrients. You will need to take Vitamin B Complex & Vitamin B6. I also took folic acid, iron, & vitamin D. Horrible med. I took about 6 or 7 pills and skipped 2 days midway. Will look for natural ways to continue my cycle. Horrible synthetic hormone period."

Medroxyprogesterone "I'm 41 and was prescribed Provera because on August 23 of this month it will be 3 months since I haven't had my period! I have been reading about it like crazy! My test results came back normal! Can someone tell me that after the 10th day on the pill I will get my period! I have severe headaches and bloating!"

Medroxyprogesterone "I am 41 years old. This is my first time taking Provera. I had been bleeding very heavily for 2 months when my doctor prescribed this medication. I have been on it for one week thus far and just stopped bleeding. The doctor was right. The two side effects I have noticed are tiredness and very dry mouth. If these are the only side effects I experience, it's worth it."

"I started taking Provera because I didn't get my period for 2 months, and I was spotting off and on. My OBGYN prescribed me Provera for 14 days. Two days after finishing this prescription, I started my period, and it has been extremely heavy. I'm now on day 7, and it's still heavy (changing pads every 2 hrs). I haven't ever in my life experienced this, even after childbirth. After reading other reviews on withdrawal bleeding, I guess I will give it a few more days, but honestly, I was thinking about going to the ER. I am also experiencing mood swings. I just wanted this to be over with. Has anyone else had extremely heavy bleeding?"

"I started this pill (10 mg) once a day for ten days on January 17th. I got my period 4 days after taking the tenth dose. It's now day 8 of my period. The first two days were light, days 3-6 were very heavy with huge clots, now days 7-8 are light. While taking the pill, I experienced abdominal cramping, tiredness, and breast tenderness. A week after taking the last pill, I noticed I had extreme anxiety symptoms (not sure if it's related to the medroxyprogesterone). Overall rating of 8/10."

Medroxyprogesterone "I've taken this medicine in the past, and it worked well. I am now taking it a second time, but it is causing panic attacks. I am not sure what is different this time. But as long as I have a period, I will be happy."

"After three months with no period, my doctor chose to put me on one pill a day for 10 days. (All bloodwork and an ultrasound were normal.) During the use of this medication, I experienced mood swings, irritability, cystic acne, and vaginal discharge. Five days after finishing the medicine, I started my period. It was heavy. My doctor warned me of the side effects and heavy period. However, it gave me a period, which is what I hoped for and is important to prevent uterine cancers. I recommend this medicine. But be aware of side effects. Ride them out, and hopefully you’ll get your period. I am 38, married, but have never been pregnant."

Medroxyprogesterone "As I'm testing through the comments, I'm horrified at the amount of women that are saying they have been on Depo for 20 years. Get off now. I've only recently learned that there is a boxed warning to only take this for no more than 2 years. The long-term issues include bone loss, increased risk of cancer, moderate to severe loss of estrogen, and vaginal atrophy. To name a few. I only found this out after finding out that at 34, I have post-menopausal estrogen levels and vaginal atrophy caused by taking Depo for 10 years. I'm beyond livid that not one of my doctors ever informed me of these possibilities. Or the fact that it's not at all recommended to take for over 2 years. I was only taking it due to dysmenorrhea. And now I have a whole other horrific set of other issues to deal with."

"After having irregular periods for more than a year and being told that I'm not in menopause (I'm 52), I was prescribed this medicine. I took 10 mg once a day for 14 days. I started my period three days after taking the last pill. The first two days I barely bled, then it picked up. I'm cramping and passing blood clots like crazy. If this were a normal period today (day five), I would have stopped, but that doesn't appear to be the case. I'm supposed to take this medicine for two more months, NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!!! I am done!"

Medroxyprogesterone "I'm 35 and came off the pill 9 months ago after taking it for 16 years. Haven't had a period for at least a year, even when on the pill. I'm at the 3rd round of Provera. I took it 2 times for 10 days and got no period after the 10 days. No negative side effects, just dry mouth. It's almost like I wasn't taking anything. One positive thing though: it seems to have cleared the skin rashes and fungus I started having a few months after coming off the pill. Didn't bring my periods back, but solved my skin issues!"

Medroxyprogesterone "I was on the depo-Provera for 3 months, and after the treatment was over, I didn’t get my period for 11 months. To try and induce a period, I got prescribed 10 Provera pills of 10 mg. I did all 10 (the side effects were so bad I would get mood swings and bad cramps), and after 3 weeks, I got my regular period back only for 2 months, and now I am back to no period."

Medroxyprogesterone "I have always had regular menstruation, but after stopping my birth control pills, I haven’t had menstruation for the past 3 months. It’s my 10th day taking Provera today. I’ve been having the worst anxiety attacks, 2 really bad dreams, and back pain. I hope my menstruation starts already."

Medroxyprogesterone "I was on birth control for 8 months when my husband and I decided to try to get pregnant. I stopped taking birth control mid-March, I started taking prenatal vitamins mid-March, and one and a half months later I still never got my period, so I decided to go see my OB-GYN. She did blood work and everything came out normal, so she decided to put me on Provera once every day for 10 days. Three days after finishing Provera, I started my period, and it lasted 7 days. After I finished my period on June 6th, my husband and I were sexually active, and my cycle should've started around June 30th, but I still haven't started my period, so the first thing this morning I took a pregnancy test and it came out negative. I don't know what's going on..."

"I had been on birth control for 5 years. I stopped taking it after my husband and I got married in June 2019 because we wanted to start trying to have a baby. After I stopped taking the pill, I did not have a period until November and then did not have a period in December or January. I went to my doctor in February, and she prescribed me 10 mg of medroxyprogesterone for 10 days. Two days after I stopped taking medroxyprogesterone, I started my period."

Medroxyprogesterone "I've been having irregular periods for about a year since I got off birth control, but this year I had a 7-week gap of no period and no signs of one. Went to OB and she said I had secondary amenorrhea, prescribed Provera 10 mg for 10 days for 3 months. I took it and instantly started bleeding about 30 minutes later. Worst cramps of my life and heaviest bleeding I've ever experienced. Only on day 3, so not sure if it will get better or worse but hoping for the best. It did induce a period for me almost immediately, which was necessary, however, the side effects are really bad so far and I don't know if it will help long term for me."

"This was the worst medication I’ve taken in my entire life. I took the oral (10-day supply) in June 2018, and honestly, since then I’ve been feeling not like myself until the end of 2018. My hormones were completely thrown out of shape, and every day felt like a near-death experience. Sure, I’ve dealt with clinical depression before, but that was 5 years ago. I consider myself a really motivated, happy, and optimistic person until I took the medication. Every single day, I felt like I had terrible PMS (CRAZY weight gain, hair loss/thinning of hair, bruising, brittle skin, erratic mood swings, etc.). I went to 4 gynecologists and even 2 endocrinologists because I was convinced that something was wrong with me. All of them just did a ton of blood tests on me and were very unhelpful. I would NOT recommend this medication for ANYONE!!!!! I was very disappointed in my doctors and this experience. They NEED to get this medication off the market because it absolutely messed me up."

"It does what it's supposed to, at least for me it did. I'm prescribed to take 10 days of 100 mg Provera every night before bed every 60 days (or every two months I don't have a cycle). It makes me feel awful, though. The first month I was prescribed Provera I took all 10 pills. I'm on the smaller side, and I really think 100 mg is just too much for my body. I have horrific constipation and gas after about 2 days on it, absolutely zero energy, and my face tends to break out (only 1-2 small, it's always clear otherwise). It also makes me starving 24/7. It works, though."

"I have always had amenorrhea (irregular periods) my whole life. Recently, at 21, I discovered that I have PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) by testing that was done. I am starting to take Metformin to help it. I have to have Provera prescribed every 3 months for the prevention of endometrial cancer. I have depression and PMDD, which is a severe form of PMS, so the only downside is that it makes me extremely depressed for when I do have my period. But it always makes me have my period by the third, fourth, or recently fifth day. It does what it is supposed to do, though, and that is good."

Medroxyprogesterone "I took the Depo shot for a year and a half. I got off 5 years ago and still have had irregular periods, which isn't normal for me. After seeing an OB-GYN, she just told me to wait around and change my diet. Six months later, I'm still not having regular cycles. So I changed my OB-GYN, and I love her to pieces! She told me that she'll put me on the Provera 5-day challenge. I started yesterday, upon taking the pill, I already felt PMS symptoms, especially cramping. I'll update later as I'm going into my third day."

"I'm 21 years old and recently found out I might have PCOS. I haven't gotten my period since 2010. On October 13th, 2015, I started taking medroxyprogesterone 10 mg for 10 days. It actually worked. My period came 4 days after finishing the pill. It started with very light cramping and very light bleeding. This is only my second day of being on my period. Looking forward to seeing the outcome, if the bleeding gets heavier or not. This pill does cause mood swings. One minute, I feel a certain way, the next minute, it changes. I'm pretty sure I'm driving my fiancé."
