"I was having severe dizzy spells, which I thought were due to another medication or condition. My PCP did a thorough exam for motion sickness, and it sure did make me dizzy and queasy. He prescribed Meclizine, and the problems subsided after about 48 hours. I'll be flying to the west coast tomorrow, so I will see if I feel lightheaded on the flight."

"I have had vertigo for 4 weeks now, and absolutely nothing has helped with getting rid of it. My doctor prescribed me meclizine. I took it and no changes to my vertigo whatsoever. Now on to the next drug."

"I had vertigo for the first time one night, couldn't sleep on my sides at all. Did the maneuvers to try and fix it, and it did. But to my surprise, it got 100 times worse in the morning. I couldn't get out of bed all day, and when I tried to eat or use the bathroom, I'd just throw up. I got meclizine and tried it. Felt drowsy for most of the day, but it definitely helped. A month goes by, and I don't experience vertigo, but it happened again a few days ago. I had a few pills left of meclizine from last time, so I took it, and it worked wonders. I took it a few hours ago because it was getting bad again, and now I feel like a human again. No drowsiness or anything!"

"I had vertigo so bad I had to crawl on hands and knees to the bathroom. Went on lower dose of meclizine, then moved up to 25 mg. Room was visually spinning in a circle. Vomiting was horrific. ER doctor put me on 4 mg of methylprednisolone for 6 days and 8 mg of ondansetron for vomiting. Meclizine helped with vertigo. Ears clear. MRI of head showed nothing. Did get a new hearing aid which I never had before. All started November 28."

"Meclizine is a life-saver, at least for me. I was diagnosed with Meniere's 12 years ago. The first episode came out of nowhere and was so intense, it landed me in the ER. Through the years I've had less intense episodes but able to control them with a combination of Ativan and Meclizine, and Zofran for the vomiting when needed. Just recently, I had a whopper of an episode with the added symptoms of chills and shaking. A trip to the ER ruled out stroke and brain tumors, alas, it was the Meniere's returned. A Neuro-ENT doc believes that I may also have vestibular migraines, which also result in vertigo and nausea. I honestly don't know what I'd do without Meclizine. 25mg. I keep it on me at all times - in my purse, on a keychain attachment, and in every room of the house... but at a low level so I can get to it while crawling. Yes, it causes drowsiness, but beats having vertigo and nausea. Meniere's is a very scary disease. It comes on suddenly. Be prepared."

"I've had vertigo 3 times in the past 15 years. It comes on without warning. I think stress! I can say it killed the dizziness, but it has my restless leg syndrome in high gear. It's like your mind is sleeping, but your legs are in a jitterbug dance-off. Also, I couldn't get the good REM sleep. I've stopped taking it, and I'm doing the exercises for returning the bone piece back to its original place inside the inner ear. Hope this works."

"This med did not help me. I tried it for vertigo/dizziness, and there was no effect. It dried my nose and throat out. Much more importantly, it made my heart beat strangely, with missed beats and extra beats. It was a very scary experience! Thankfully, my heart went back to normal once I stopped taking it."

"I had an attack about a year ago, everything was moving to the left, not spinning. Every time I opened my eyes, everything seemed to be moving from right to left. I had no idea what it was. I'm 64 and have depression, arthritis, destroyed knees due to 5 surgeries (the last one totally messed me up, so it's difficult to walk very well) and am legally disabled, even though I'm able to function pretty well despite all this crap. So, my niece lives close to me (Nurse Practitioner) and I was going to visit her that day, and when I got there and told her I was very dizzy, she gave me a Meclizine she had on hand, and in 30 minutes I felt 90% better! I called my doctor and went to see him on a normal visit, and he prescribed Meclizine. I had one more small attack a couple of weeks later, took the pill, and it worked. So I started having another attack last night, was totally dizzy and feeling very wobbly. Took one pill, now okay. Not sleepy."

"I was prescribed meclizine for vertigo after a serious gastro bug left me dehydrated. I took 25 mg the first night, and I found myself almost knocked out about ten minutes after taking it. Might be just me. The second night, the same thing happened, and I felt like I blacked out. I woke up completely startled and heart pounding. No third time. Still have vertigo, but I'm not giving it another try. I'm glad it has given relief to some people."

"It helps with the dizziness, but be prepared to be a sleeping, worthless blob for several hours while on it and prepare to be unusually tired for several hours after the dose is supposed to have worn off. I feel like the walking dead! It's a real chore to get my work done. Until the effects have fully worn off, my advice would be to not drive a vehicle or operate machinery. I also have a headache, which is a known side effect. Better than the world spinning, I guess. I just wish it didn't make me so tired!"

"No warning, no reason, nausea, pressure headaches, tingly left arm, dizziness. They checked my heart and blood, and all of that was fine. I went to urgent care, and they diagnosed me with vertigo due to an inner ear effusion - I’m on meclizine 12.5 mg 3 x a day, but I can’t even manage that. The medication makes me feel like a zombie. The UC doc also has me on Zyrtec and Flonase, plus anti-nausea - I’m only 6 days into this vertigo, and I’m already over it. Please tell me how to make it stop."

"Done with it for 5 years, way too long. Was told it was vertigo, but it is really neuropathy in my feet from chemo 20 years ago. I was having so many balance issues, so now, 2 days ago, I stopped using it, and more balance issues. Gonna pitch the remainder."

"Horrible. I had a very loud and rude nurse who got mad at me for asking for a half dose (12.5 mg instead of 25 mg) because I don't do well with antihistamines, they make me feel horrible. I was reassured this one wouldn't. I'm glad I only took half. And while they left me there for over an hour waiting for the dose, they didn't keep me even 3 seconds to check any reactions. I even got a little placebo effect, like 'did it help? It might have...' It didn't. My dizziness stayed the same, but about exactly an hour after the moment I took it, my heart started pounding like a sledgehammer, I was exhausted and started dreaming. This then shifted into hallucinations while I was awake off and on, that I couldn't tell weren't reality. I didn't pee for over 12 hours because I couldn't get up and still didn't even really need to when I went, which means it extremely dehydrated me. I've slept for almost 24 hours straight and going back now. Makes me can't wait for how bad I felt before because it wasn't this."

"I rushed to the ER after experiencing vertigo very strongly. I was shaky and off balance and very scared. I just got up from my sofa and everything was a blur, a very scary feeling. I was given meclizine for vertigo, but it makes me so drowsy that most of the day I am laying down and sleepy. It did help me because I haven't felt dizzy, but I am very scared of it happening again. I can't feel alert, so tired and drowsy. I hope I get better."

"I've had Meniere's syndrome for decades, sometimes such that I have to crawl from dizziness. Nausea and dizziness go away in an hour after several tablets. However, I also have bipolar disorder, so I take Valproate or other anticonvulsants, and I'm 85 now. One Meclizine, added to my usual meds, makes me sleep day and night for over 48 hours, and my heart and/or lungs seem to slow down, so I dream I'm very tired, which I am, and I actually think someone old or weak could die from combinations of things that cause lots of drowsiness, so I recommend that a few of you readers be careful!"

"Works great, but puts me to sleep! So I don’t feel the vertigo, but then I’m out after every pill! Lol, after a couple of days, the attack is done, and I’m back to normal! It’s cheaper to purchase without insurance!"

"I was driving down a highway yesterday and had a sudden attack. I was able to pull off the road before hurting myself or others. I parked the car, got a ride to the ER, and they gave me meclizine. My heart rate went down to as low as 52 bpm, and my bp eventually got down to 124/70 at dismissal time (it was 175/78 about three hours prior). It has an extremely calming effect, but I was exhausted for almost 24 hours following. Today, I have had a few minor spells, but nothing like yesterday."

"I have had positional vertigo off and on since 1983. When vertigo rears its head, I turn to meclizine. I take 25 milligrams a day. It is the best medicine I have found for vertigo."
