"64 years old, have occasionally had cold sores on the right corner of my mouth, once on my right nostril. My wife has had it since she's a child, also on her lips. Neither one of us gets it on our genitals. Starting to take L-Lysine 1000 mg a day and have still had a few outbreaks, but they have been less severe. When they occur, I am also taking a prescription of Valtrex. When I have the outbreak, I am increasing the L-Lysine dose to 1000 mg in the morning and the same at night. One of the side effects is good skin! I had a few bumps on my face that seem to be clearing up or going away. I wish I would have known about L-Lysine when I was a kid because it could be good for acne."

"I started taking 1000 mg daily 9 months ago due to occasional outbreaks and have not had one since until today. I took a collagen supplement that warned an outbreak could occur. I am going to take 3 today and hopefully it will suppress it."

"I had genital warts or herpes 2 for 1 year. I didn't really focus on it until 2 weeks ago when I went to a stupid small laser bikini wax lady to look at my vaginal area and told me I had herpes. I looked through the internet and searched for home treatments. I bought 3 tea tree oils and used lysine pills. It really worked with red marine algae. My warts shrank in 1 week and 4 days. "My dentist told me about this, and the second I felt the oncoming of a cold sore, I started taking 1000 mg of L-lysine. It did not get anywhere near as bad as they usually do and was healed up rather quickly. I will always have it as my go-to."

"I literally just found out today with HSV-1 (oral). I have never had a cold sore, so I was shocked when the doctor told me. I have a friend who had been diagnosed many years ago and remember her telling me she took lysine. I am going to start taking it as well to hopefully avoid ever having an outbreak. Lysine "I have IBS with alternating diarrhea and constipation. I tried L-Lysine a few months ago but thought it increased diarrhea and abdominal cramps. Continuing to break out, I tried the Lysine again, routinely twice daily. Unfortunately, the diarrhea and abdominal cramps have returned, and I'm stopping the Lysine immediately."

"A new study about genital herpes transmission has recently been published. We are not quite sure whether it can help find a cure for herpes, but it does show some interesting perspectives. Bacteria in the vagina can affect genital herpes transmission. The study suggests that healthy vaginal microflora may protect women from getting infected with genital herpes. The study has been led by a doctoral student at the University of Texas Medical Center. The experiment that was carried out in the laboratory compared various cultures that normally live in the vagina. Researchers found that the herpes simplex virus type-2 (genital herpes) replicated more in cultures that contained less Lactobacillus (were less healthy)."

"Works incredibly well as prevention with 1g per day for oral herpes, then during occasional (and I mean years between last and current) up to 4g, and it disappears inside of a week. I managed to transfer my cold sore to the genital area, and it doesn't work as well there, but still aids an outbreak that can often take weeks to disperse. Get the bulk powder instead of tablets. The cost is greatly reduced, and you need only mix it with a splash of juice to drink it."

"I took this the first day of the outbreak along with Coconut Supplement, Green Superfoods Powder from GNC. My outbreak immediately began to heal. Increased the healing time by 50%. I also used a cool setting on the blow dryer on the sore on my face to dry out the pus. Did this about 2 minutes, 5 times a day, to help make the sore heal faster. Not recommended to put anything directly on the sore because it will just irritate it more. Better to win the battle from the inside."

"Having had the herpes virus all my life. It's a viral nightmare. Most people experience it in their lips. I'm one of the few (lucky ones) that experiences it in both ways, in my lips and my eyes. It's not nice... but people need to understand the causation. Late nights, stress (unconscious stress), poor diet, too much booze. For the 'lucky' ones who experience it in their eyes, I would say stress, stress, stress is it again. No real tricks involved, but when you get them, you kinda know why. Tiredness, poor nutrition, and stress. Wouldn't find it funny... but I cannot catch any other illness... flu, cold, man flu. Has to be an immunity thing. Lysine... I think could solve it. Lysine "I tried this after I kept getting cold sores, and it has really helped. I never had these before until I started wearing a mask all the time. Anyway, this really works: 1000 mg, 2 times a day I started with, and now decreased to once a day since I have no cold sore. GREAT stuff!"

"Just got diagnosed with HSV-1, and reading this actually made me feel like crawling and crying like a baby. The outbreak I have right now is genital and in my throat and mouth. I talked to the doctor who did the blood test on me and said over time that it would eventually get much better. She said that what I’m having is a massive outbreak and is unusual, but that it may be due to the fact that I stressed myself out over it so much. She also told me even though I have it in the genital area, that it doesn't mean that I needed “private to private” contact to acquire it. But this did make me feel a whole lot better about the whole situation."

"I have had 4-6 outbreaks a year with cold sores since age 3. Noted in old school and family photos. The invention of Valtrex was great for about 10 years, then nothing! Didn't matter if used brand name or generic. Increased the lysine as a preventive to 1000 mg per day. Take extra if I eat arginine foods like chocolate or peanut butter. Eventually started Gigartina species of red algae. Superb. If I get a sore, it is a minuscule single bump. Take it hours apart from the lysine to not interfere. The Gigartina works like the Valtrex used to. It is much cheaper than Valtrex and no resistance (yet). Can find better price and pure product with a search. Take 1-2 extra when I feel an outbreak, just like lysine."

Lysine "One day after starting the L-lysine, I have horribly swollen lymph nodes in my underarms. It's been 3 days, and they are still painful and swollen. I did have smoothies each a.m. with mango and yogurt, which I read are high in lysine as well. I am stopping use due to this reaction."

Lysine "I tested L-lysine for over a year to see what results I would get for HSV 1 and 2. When 50 mg was taken daily, it completely suppressed HSV 1 and 2, and I never had any outbreaks. However, after stopping daily dosing, the outbreaks returned and became worse than before, in both frequency and severity after stopping L-lysine! The more severe outbreaks stopped after my body could fight off and suppress the virus as it did before using L-lysine! The good news is that after a number of months, your body will return to pre-L-lysine supplementation levels, and the number of outbreaks will return to what they used to be. I normally only get an outbreak a couple of times a year when the seasons change from fall to winter and from winter to spring, but when I used L-lysine daily, I never got an outbreak for the whole year plus that I used it. For people that have less severe cases of HSV 1 and/or 2, you may consider supplementing with L-lysine only as needed to stop a breakout instead of taking it daily."

"After freezing warts, it got worse, so I took my chance. I have genital herpes that my unfaithful boyfriend gave to me. Lysine helped cure the outbreak in a week. My advice is never be without it. Buy with green tea mask for my vagina and use witch hazel. My dermatologist prescribed imiquimod, and I didn't use it because of bad reviews. So my advice is: 1. buy lysine pills 2. green tea St. Ives scrub 3. witch hazel astringent 4. keep faith and never give up. This helped me. I've cried to the point my boyfriend thought it was me that gave it to him. And you can crush lysine pills and put them in cream and rub on the vagina."

"Been suffering from HSV-1 all my life (I'm 32), and I used to have outbreaks around six times a year, with medium-large painful blisters across the mouth, which usually lasted five to ten days. In the last two years, I've started taking 3g lysine + 400mg oral acyclovir during outbreaks, and my flares dropped to three days' duration. Since eight months ago, I've been taking 1g lysine daily and I've had absolutely no outbreaks in that period. No type of cream or herbal treatment worked for me. But during the last few years, I realized that consuming foods rich in arginine triggers my flare. So I believe my HSV has something to do with lysine x arginine. Stay strong!"

"I got my first cold sore around 13 years old and haven't suffered from bad cold sores and canker sores until this year, 2021. I was hopeless and even had to go to the emergency room. I don't know if my braces caused them or if I had a fever, but my throat was very itchy due to high fever and blisters. Ever since I started taking lysine, I have not got one blister! And no canker sores. I was really depressed and this pill changed my life. I drink one every morning and never forget! "I have genital HSV-1. I saw really good reviews on lysine. Even though I hadn’t had an outbreak in 16-18 months, I decided to give lysine a go in hopes of suppressing it further. But a week after starting it, I got an outbreak. I think if I didn’t take lysine, I wouldn’t have had an outbreak. I don’t recommend this supplement for herpes at all!!"

"Been taking lysine for 2 years. Noticed an increase in outbreaks (HSV2). Symptoms and itchiness were lasting a lot longer. Currently having an outbreak. Not using lysine this time and I don’t even notice I’m having an outbreak until I look at it and safely apply Aquaphor to the affected area. Aquaphor is a way better home remedy."
