"I think IUDs are a different experience for every woman because we all have different bodies. For me, Liletta has worked wonderfully! The insertion felt like bad cramping, but not unbearable. I've noticed some women on here are saying that they didn't bleed long after Liletta insertion, which is awesome, but my experience was that I spotted for a few weeks after with some occasional bad cramping, which I didn't feel like it was a big problem for me. A few months later, my periods are consistent, and I only get some slight cramping before periods. I used to have horrible cramps and heavy periods, but now my periods have become lighter and the cramps are not nearly as bad!"

"Got my Liletta IUD in November 2018, definitely take someone with you and plan to do nothing that day. I got it on my period and took a lot of Advil before, but it was super painful for me, but I was fine. My cramping lasted a few months off and on and then finally calmed down. Got married that following December, and now it’s been almost a year and a half since I’ve gotten it and no side effects that I know of! I still have regular periods, but I’m talking super light, like spotting! Overall, not a terrible experience! This is the only birth control I’ve been on, taking it out next month to try to conceive!"

"I have only had the Liletta for about 3 weeks. Insertion was extremely painful. I thought it was only supposed to hurt during insertion, not after as well. I felt bloated for the first 3 days. However, I went and did yoga, ran on the treadmill, and hiked the very next day after insertion. No problem. I only spotted lightly for 3 days (not enough to even wear an actual pad). I have experienced vaginal dryness during intercourse, which was NEVER a problem. I did some reading, and apparently this is a common side effect. No mood swings, no weight gain, no depression. Just a little bit of acne on my chin/jawline, but nothing extreme. However, knowing that I have the most effective form of birth control (after tubal ligation and abstinence) gives me such a huge relief that I will handle the dryness issue. I love this IUD thus far. Will update a few months from now after I have experienced a few cycles on it."

"Worked well, my biggest side effect was weight gain, regardless of how much I watch what I eat and exercise. It worked well, no periods because I am dealing with fibroids. My issue is weight gain - it sucks."

"I've had Liletta for 3 years now. I've had no major complications at all. My mood does have an array of emotions, but that's just how I am. My skin sometimes does break out, yes, but it's never serious. My secret is hair, skin, and nails gummies, loaded with keratin and vitamins E. You can find them at your local dollar store. On my face, chest, and shoulders, but it's never been too serious. I recently went to see my gynecologist, and she told me I was good for another 2 years, maybe longer. I said okay, but I've had spotting recently, which I haven't had since August of 2017, 6 months after insertion. Also, I've had some fatigue recently. I work 2 jobs currently, and I didn't feel like that when I worked 16 hours a day, 6 days a week, during the summer season. I do experience cramping every so often, which again I haven't had since August of 2017. Last but not least, weight gain. I've gained around 10 lbs in the last 4 months, but I work about 40 hours a week now. As to why, I don't know."

"I had this IUD put in almost two years ago. Pro: I'm not pregnant. Cons: Constant spotting still to this day, no sex drive, can feel it every now and then, and my boyfriend can feel it but has gotten used to it. I'm not sure why everyone says it hurt to be put in, because mine didn't. I did have to go back to have the string cut even more because it actually started to come out of me. Personally, I wouldn't recommend getting this product. I will be taking mine out as my boyfriend has realized how annoying the spotting is. Can't wear any cute underwear because you never know when the spotting will start up, and not having a sex drive is a killer. Why have an IUD if you don't even have a sex drive...?"

"Inserted after second pregnancy. I requested Mirena but was told Liletta was as effective and better. Well, I experienced virtually no sex drive, horrible mood swings, and gained 15 pounds all in 10 months. I have now been off it for 3 months and finally have my sex drive back. Still battling getting rid of the weight gained."

"I’ve had my Liletta for a little more than 3 years. During the insertion, I felt a little cramping for a minute, my doctor suggested I take ibuprofen because it could get painful during the day. After 30 minutes, I started to have the worst cramps in my life! I didn’t even ask for the day off ahead because I thought I would be fine, but no, so it was a very rough day. After that, I got my period some days later and I bled for about a month! No cramping, not a lot of blood, but I was concerned and mad. My doctor said it was normal, that I should worry just if I was bleeding like the pad can’t hold the blood. Then I had a second period that lasted for two weeks. After that, it started to get better. I don’t get my periods, just some little spotting for a day once or twice a month, didn’t gain weight (I’ve lost about 15 pounds), no acne, no pregnancy! The annoying side effects that I still have are: my libido went down and I have some random cramps that last less than a minute."

"I’ve always had depression problems, but they increased after getting the IUD. I thought it was just hormones still adjusting because I was less than a year postpartum and recently stopping breastfeeding, so I just continued my antidepressants and tried to ignore it. Now I’ve had it for 4 years, and I’m seeing that everything about my health has spiraled out of control since its insertion. My anxiety and depression have steadily increased to the point where it’s causing job loss and relationship problems. My skin hasn’t been right since insertion either. I got on spironolactone and tretinoin in late 2019 and had little result, so they put me on oral contraceptives for 3 months in addition to the IUD to try to correct my skin, which also didn’t work. I’ve gone from 150 lbs to 230 lbs. I’m extremely fatigued. And in hindsight, it all began or dramatically increased after the IUD was inserted. I’m about to remove it!"

"These reviews were so intense I felt like I needed to add my experience... The insertion experience for me was nothing like I see described here. It took only a matter of minutes from start to finish. It wasn't pain-free, obviously. I'd say 5/6 out of 10. But it lasted seconds. I have given birth one time, and it was not even close to comparable. I was crampy on the drive back to work, but worked the rest of the day with some Motrin and no issues. I had some lower back pain the first few days, on and off, but nothing crazy. I had instant relief from the annoyance of the pill. My skin is clear, and I've had no changes in diet to speak of. Overall, so far, so good."

"I did a lot of research on this before starting it and was VERY nervous. Something I found interesting was most reviews were written after 1 - 3 months of insertion, but the company itself advises a 3 - 6 month adjustment period for your body. So - I committed myself to the full 6 months before reviewing it. Honestly, I agreed after the first 2 months that it was not fun. I had spotting nearly every day and outright bleeding many days. My cramps were better, but not gone. But bleeding all the time was just horrible and not the tradeoff I wanted for reduced cramps. Then around 3 months, my body started to adjust and I noticed the spotting was getting better. Now I'm at 7 months and my cycles have pretty much stopped, I have no cramping, and I have occasional spotting. It is the BEST decision I made. I'm so happy I didn't let the negative reviews dissuade me. You MUST wait the 3 - 6 months for your body to adjust to this - you will be so happy you did!"

"I have had the Liletta for 4 months now. I bled for the first 2 months pretty much every day and had been really enjoying no period since then, with occasional minimal spotting. But the BIG downfall for me has been an extremely low sex drive, which is NOT normal at all for me. I am very sexual, now I hardly want it. I have also been feeling very lethargic and emotionless, but I don't feel depressed. This has all changed since starting Liletta. So, I am going to get it checked out. I am hoping it's all a weird coincidence, but it doesn't seem like it."

"Seeing all of these bad reviews, I feel inclined to share a different side. I got Liletta last Friday (August 11, 2017), so today marks day 6 with the device. The insertion was very, very painful. I was not on my period for the appointment, as your doctor should be able to do it either way. At its worst, the pain made me feel close to passing out, and I did throw up immediately afterward. My doctor told me this is normal. I stayed horizontal for about 20 minutes afterward since I drove myself to the appointment and didn't want to make myself sick again. I have had spotting on and off since then, but very, very light. Regarding the string, my boyfriend could not feel it during sex, and sex was not painful at all. Will keep you all updated."

"I'm 24, previously taking oral contraceptives for 9 years. I'm giving this 5 because it is effective in the most basic sense. I no longer worry about getting pregnant or taking pills, and my periods are regular and very light. However, I am one year in and planning to get it removed because of the side effects. First, the insertion was incredibly painful for me, followed by excruciating cramps. The first 6 months were radical mood swings, acne, weight gain, and cramping that gradually stabilized. I'm a year in now, though, and I'm finding it hard to work off the weight. I'm still very emotional, my skin is bad (possibly unrelated, but my eczema has come back), low sex drive. I gave it a chance, but I'd rather take pills/use condoms and be happy."

"This hormonal birth control, Liletta, gave me the worst breakout ever. I read about acne side effects before putting this IUD, but since I never had acne before, I was thinking maybe it won’t happen to me - but I was wrong. Talked to my doctor about my new acne, and she prescribed me some acne medications, but they didn’t work at all. I was bleeding for 3 months straight, had it taken out last week, and my acne is disappearing like instantly. Don’t recommend this IUD."

"I had my IUD inserted during my cesarean. Yes, I was told it could come out of place more easily because of the uterus and childbirth. During my postpartum visit, my OB couldn’t find my strings, so I had an ultrasound to check placement-everything was okay with that, thankfully. My sex drive is almost nonexistent, which would be great to prevent pregnancy, lol, but not for my partner. The bleeding-I’ve had two cycles, I believe, in almost 4 months postpartum. I did have some constant mid-cycle bleeding, but it seems to have leveled out. It definitely affects my moods-like I’m not a crier at all, but I could easily cry over some situations. I am easily irritated and get flustered. When I did ask my provider about my moods and bleeding, it was made to seem it’s “not enough hormone,” something like that, but it’s 100% noticeable changes. This time next year, I plan to have it removed."

"I was on Liletta for ID2 years, the insertion was extremely painful but bearable. Before the IUD, my periods were always on time and light. After getting on it, my first period was 27 days long, and it was super heavy. I had painful breast tenderness and horrible cramps. After a while, my periods started to be 2 weeks, and it would come almost every 3 weeks. It was horrible. I got BV from being on it, and that was the last straw. The upside from this was that I never got pregnant."

"I had my Liletta for 7 years. I've been with my partner for 10 years. For the past 7 years, my sex drive was basically non-existent. My man felt inadequate, like I didn’t love him anymore… and I never could give him an explanation as to why I never wanted to have sex. I felt like something was wrong with me and would find any and every excuse. It was horrible, and it caused a lot of anxiety and depression because I missed that feeling and very much loved my fiancé. Before the IUD, we would have sex multiple times a week, sometimes multiple times a day! And then boom, I could go months without. I got my IUD removed last week and decided I was going to give my body a little break before putting a new one in. And OMG, I have been so horny since removing it. I honestly feel like I’m discovering sex all over again. To be honest, when I looked it up this morning and started to read all the women who share the same experience, I got emotional that it took 7 years to figure this out."

"I got Liletta 10 months ago. I am 22 yrs old, 165 lbs, 6' tall, and very athletic. Insertion hurt, but it was not unbearable for me even without pain meds, and lasted a VERY short amount of time. I was fine during and immediately after, but once I stood up, I got very nauseous and almost passed out. After I laid down for a few minutes, I was fine. I spent the rest of the day with cramps and a headache. The next afternoon, I was fine to return to my job. After that, I lightly bled for about 3 months, with cramps on my period that were so bad at night to the point where I had to take Advil and lay down. I think I was more moody than usual as well. The next few months, my period was light with light cramps and was 3-11 days. Month 10, I don't know if I got my period or not because it was so light. I have not gained or lost any weight and have experienced no sign of body, mood, or sex drive changes. As an athlete, it did not change my performance. I give it a 9 because the string is hard to find."

"I have had no notable problems with the Liletta IUD. I have gained weight, maybe 20 lbs, but that is probably my own fault from stress eating and such. My periods got lighter, then after a year and a half, went away. I was not a fan of birth control pills, they made me moody and made my periods heavier. This will be my preferred birth control for the rest of my life. Just put it in and forget about it for a couple of years. It’s like nothing is there and nothing is different. Perfect for a 20-year-old like me who wants to wait a few years to get everything in order before having kids. I am glad to have found a birth control that works great for me. Sadly, everyone is different, so don’t let others' bad stories turn you away from it, different things work for different people. The only way to really know if this will work for you is to try it yourself. And to me, the idea of 3-5 years of birth control with no effort is worth any rumored and rare side effects/concerns."

"I have had my Liletta in for a few months, and as of today, for the past 4 days, I've had severe anxiety, headaches, and weird chest pains. Having it removed tomorrow, I'm so scared. Hopefully, after the removal, the anxiety will go away. I feel like I can't breathe."

"I got my Liletta put in July 2016. The insertion was painful, 8/10. The most painful part is when they clamp your uterus, I can still remember that pain now. I never had any pregnancies. I was crampy and had some oozing/spotting the rest of the day. I pretty much napped the whole day after that. The next day everything was fine. The following month I had a very light period. After that, I haven't had a true period since, I mean I get all the symptoms of a period without the blood. My sex drive actually increased with being on it. No weight gain or breakouts. So far it is amazing, and I love it."

"I'm not sure what other people experience months after the insertion, but I had my Liletta inserted in mid-November and I have bled or had spotting every day since insertion. I either have to use tampons or a pad depending on the day, but I can never go without one or the other. It is super effective as birth control for me, as I never want to have sex with my husband because of all the blood. I will be looking for an alternative birth control method."

"I had Liletta inserted in January 2018 at Planned Parenthood. After insertion, I was bleeding for about 2 months. It was pretty heavy. Today, July 21, 2019, I still have it in me. I want it removed, following my gaining 30 lbs. This IUD gives me severe anxiety, depression, and agitation. I always feel tired, my legs get swollen, and I just randomly started spotting. I wonder if it moved its placement a bit. Scheduling an appointment to remove it."

"I’m 47 years old. Had this birth control since May 2018. Used to take the Depo shot. Insertion was no problem. I was fine at first. Over the year and a half, I have gained 30 lbs, depressed, tired, bloated, lack of sex drive, and moody. I eat very well, work out, and can gain pounds quickly and lose them slowly. My doctor didn’t think the BC was the cause. Ran tests for thyroid and pre-menopause, and those tests were negative. I truly believe this BC is the cause, and I plan on having it removed immediately. I haven’t had a period in over four years. So I don’t know what will happen. But I would rather deal with a period than weight gain."
