Leuprolide "I was on Lupron a few years ago. For chronic pain, multiple cysts, I was bedridden a week or two of every month. This injection saved my life back then. I lost coverage, so I stopped. Now I have coverage and decided to try it again... it's not working this time! I'm in pain all the time still. I have trouble sleeping at night or staying asleep, my libido is gone... and I'm in the 4th month of treatment and started bleeding and have really bad pains again... and my hot flashes are back. The first month is the worst! The worst period of my life... but there was no bleeding until now... so I would recommend trying the once-a-month doses first."

Leuprolide "I have been on Lupron for 4 months, about to have my fifth shot. I have a 10 cm submucosal fibroid which was causing pain, severe bleeding, and anemia. Since starting the Lupron, my migraines increased by double (I had to switch meds so I could go to work). I’ve gained 10 pounds, I have night sweats, hot flashes during the day, my mood gets angry and sad the week after the shot, and now my hair is thinning. I also am still bleeding daily (spotting). I was put on progesterone to offset some of the side effects. I have two more shots until my second surgery, and I can’t wait to be off this medication."

Leuprolide "Lupron did not work for me. I took this medication as a last resort prior to having surgery to try and stop further growth of my already large fibroids and stop the hemorrhage-level bleeding that I was regularly experiencing. This was an injection taken once every 3 months. While taking, my bleeding continued to get heavier. I had all the side effects and none of the stated good effects. The doctors don’t tell you that this medication may not work, and when I told my doctor that it’s not effective and I continued to have heavy bleeding, she still wanted me to continue taking this very expensive medication. For me it wasn’t worth it. The mood swings alone made me feel awful, I had memory fog, and the hot flashes were so intense. Take with extreme caution."

Leuprolide "I was having very heavy periods due to fibroids. My GYN gave me the shot, and it was amazing! No more periods! The trade-off I took was night sweats and early onset menopause, but after such heavy bleeding that I have a very low blood count, anemia, and vitamin D deficiency, it was well worth it! I'm only in the last few weeks of my first shot, but I can't wait for the next one!"

Leuprolide "I didn't experience any major problems, except some mild stomach cramping initially and continued heavy bleeding for the first two injections. By my 3rd shot, just mild spotting and occasional cramping. I just finished my 4th round, still no hot flashes, etc. I'm actually looking forward to my upcoming surgery soon."

Leuprolide "Took Lupron injections for several months, prior to surgery to reduce my fibroids. It did the trick, and the surgery was successful. Within two years, I got pregnant and had my daughter. Without Lupron and my procedure, it may have never happened. Had no issues with Lupron, except for the hot flashes I was forewarned about."

Leuprolide "I started taking Lupron in November 2014, and I am currently still taking the shots. I have had almost no side effects except for occasional hot flashes. I was put on Lupron because of heavy bleeding due to my large fibroids. I am extremely happy with the results. My fibroids have shrunk to the point that I can now have a laparoscopic hysterectomy rather than the old-fashioned full abdominal surgery. I haven't had a menstrual cycle in 9 months."

Leuprolide "The Lupron injection was a lifesaver. In November 2019, I was 50 years old, and I had been bleeding for 75 days due to uterine fibroids. My hemoglobin was down to 5.1, and I had to have blood transfusions in the hospital. So far, so good, no bleeding at all until today, when I started bleeding again for the first time since November 2019. I'm now almost 53 years old, and I'm scared to death. I have to go to the doctor on Thursday. Has anyone else had their periods restart after so much time, not having them following the Lupron injection? I know the injections wear off, I'm not sure if they will administer more to stop the bleeding now?"

Leuprolide "I was put on a Lupron Depot shot monthly, with add-back hormones because of my age (29), after trying a number of unsuccessful treatments for heavy bleeding from fibroids (multiple, 10 cm largest). The first period on Lupron was heavier than normal, but I did not have one again until 3 months after my last shot. I only took it for 6 months because the side effects were horrible, but on the bright side, I didn't have a period for 9 months. The side effects I experienced were extremely dry skin to the point of peeling off my face in chunks, zero sex drive, significant weight loss, and depression. I was put on a higher dose of add-back hormones to try to address the side effects, but ultimately stopped filling my prescription as I wanted to feel like myself again. To date, it is the only intervention that has controlled bleeding from my fibroids, other than the Kyleena IUD. Fibroids have grown back since stopping Lupron."

Leuprolide "I have had like 8 fibroids, super big, started in March 2015, started bleeding, blood clots. I was close to 50 years old, so I found a study, and she recommended Lupron. I'm not gonna lie, had 3 shots, my hair fell out - it's gone, but for the pain I'm in right now, might have to get my 4th shot. This situation changes your lifestyle 100%. Horrible uterus pain is unbelievable. My hot flash/cold flash, worst are without Lupron."

Leuprolide "I have had many years of heavy, painful periods. Diagnosed with a bulky uterus (size 16 weeks) with endometriosis and fibroids. My gynecologist recommended Lupron Depot to shrink my uterus before going for laparoscopic hysterectomy. I'm 53 years old. I have had 2 shots now and am going for my 3rd next week. I have had a lot of side effects from this medication: night sweats (not every night, mild), insomnia, no energy, restless legs/muscle spasms, depression (cry every day at least once), and mood swings (my poor family). So next week when I get shot #3, I am hoping that he will have my surgical date booked as I cannot live with the pain and constant bleeding. The shot plus add-back therapy has only given me hope that I will eventually get back to normal and a better quality of life."

Leuprolide "I took Luprodex 3.75 mg injection for 5 months on a monthly basis to reduce the severe cramps and pain associated with monthly flow. The first month of the injection was still painful, but the subsequent months were normal, and I also ovulated well in month 4. Then, after the last dose, it took just 6 weeks before my period returned. It was quite normal but with a very light right abdominal cramp. I will do a scan to check if the bulky uterus has reduced because I want to conceive too. One important observation is that it did not stop my period for those months. I usually see my period each month but did not see it the next month when I stopped the injection. It was a beautiful experience, though I had severe leg cramps/arthritis."

"I have been taking the Lupron shot for fibroids. I was bleeding so heavily I was wearing diapers, I could not wear pads anymore. When I suffered my sixth stroke, I told my doc, "Look, you are not putting me on any blood thinner until you fix the problem down there." The first shot, I bled afterward for like three days, but not as heavily as I normally would. My next shot is in July 2018. The first time I took the shot, I had mood swings, hot flashes at night, headaches, and sleeplessness. It takes you on a journey, but my fibroids are shrinking tremendously. The newest side effect I discovered is swollen gums. No fun. Do what you can to preserve your smile while taking this drug, or you can lose your teeth. I used to have a beautiful smile, now that is gone. The only drawback I have."

Leuprolide "I’ve had Lupron Depot for six months, with no reduction in the size of my fibroids. It wasn’t hell with Lupron Depot, but my sex life was non-existent, the heat flashes were constant, and it didn’t help the various pains I was experiencing from my large uterine fibroid (>10 cm). I also noticed that my knees got weak, and I constantly had back pain. I’m 29 years old, so this is alarming."

Leuprolide "Update from post Sept 23. It's been over 1 month since my Lupron shot, and I have been bleeding continuously since Sept 21st. On and off from light spotting to filling pads every 30 minutes with large clots. I can tell the shot has affected my hormones as I get hot flashes through the night to the point of sweating, I lose my train of thought and I forget easily. My Gyno just told me to increase iron intake from 150 to 300 and take TXA when needed. I completed 3 iron IVs to help build my blood. Hopefully, I will stop bleeding for my surgery on Nov 14th."

Leuprolide "I was on this medicine about a year ago, but I only took it twice over six months (it was an every three months shot). I did not see any difference in the size of my waist. I didn't have a professional test to show me a change in my size, I measured my waist each day. The measurement didn't change at all. Multiple doctors advised me that there would be no change, if any, due to the fact that I was very large. I recently had the Acessa procedure to help shrink the fibroids small enough to manage with a myomectomy surgery or hopefully without any other surgeries. At this point, it has been six weeks since the surgery, and I am too afraid to measure myself yet. Will update in a couple of months or so."

Leuprolide "Back in Sept 2019, I had a submucosal fibroid at 1.3 cm in size. I was offered Lupron back then but didn't pursue it. Covid hit, and I didn't end up doing anything other than iron supplements. In Dec 2022, I decided to see a naturopath as my symptoms were getting worse (heavy periods, clots, extreme tiredness, pale skin, painful intercourse). In July 2022, I had the worst period ever, which put me in the hospital needing two blood transfusions. I had an ultrasound that confirmed my 1.3 cm fibroid had grown to 8.3 cm. Due to my condition, we agreed to have a partial hysterectomy. Surgery is Nov 14th. I took Lupron 11.25 mg shot on Sept 6th. I will have three iron IVs prior to my surgery to build hemo (Sept 20, 26, Oct 4) before surgery. On Sept 22nd, I started bleeding like a normal period, but day three now is heavy with clots. I am on tranexamic (2/8 hrs) but will change to 2/6 hrs as the bleeding isn't slowing down. No other major symptoms yet other than 2-3 migraines. Will re-post with updates."

Leuprolide "I have not had the injection yet but am taking the one-month version today. I am nervous after reading these things. I have over 20 fibroids. One that is 10 cm, I can feel touching my rib cage... YES, my rib cage. This will be my second fibroid surgery, but this one is worse. Has anyone had a provider say to use progestin (low dose) to help minimize the side effects? I was told you should not use estrogen-based BC with these products. Will I need calcium/vit D for my bone health? I am worried about hair loss. The anemia I have has already made my hair fall out. I don't need any more help with that. Please share your experiences."
