"I have been taking this medication for about a week for high blood pressure. My side effects are frequent urination for the first few days. Afterwards, severe abdominal and back pain, cold sweats, constipation, weakness, and nausea. I stopped the medication and emailed my doctor."

"I have been on Diazide for 38 years. My drug store told me they couldn't get the meds anymore, so I got a prescription for Maxide. I took one dose, and I got very sick and weak. I did not take another one. I got online, found another drug store, asked them if they carried Diazide in the Pharma. He said yes. I got my doctor to write me another script. I drove 35 miles and got my Diazide. Mail order now."

"I have been on atenolol for years for fast heart rate. But as I've gotten older, my blood pressure has increased. My doctor added triamterene alongside the atenolol. The first day, I didn't feel well but assumed I would feel a little different with new meds. I made sure I drank lots of water. Days 2-4 were horrible. Extremely weak, heart palpitations, chest pain, and overall bad feelings. Went back to only the atenolol. Today is 2 days after stopping, and I feel better as far as the weakness, but my pressure is back up. Waiting for the doctor to give me something else to try."

Hydrochlorothiazide / triamterene "I was on Maxide years ago when first diagnosed with hypertension, it did not work for me. I was finally put on Dyazide, which had worked for 20 years. I moved to NC, where Maxide is used. While I understand they are supposed to be the same, my BP is 160/90 right now. Maxide does not work for me, and I don't understand why."

"This pill is great at first, but after taking the drug for six years, I began to develop one side effect, and then I looked at all the other problems I had been experiencing and identified at least 20. All reported to my Dr., who only offered other treatments or specialists that only addressed the symptoms and not the side effects. I experienced severe nerve pain, nosebleeds, bloating, bad headaches, knee joint inflammation, limited mobility, vision loss, hair loss, rash, loss of thoughts, fatigue, irritability, constipation, etc., and not all at the same time but over time. In conclusion, this pill is really no good for me and slowly works you into a pill culture. Do not recommend, completely switched to homeopathic solutions and doing much better."

"So I have been on and off hydrochlorothiazide for about 3 years. I recently started taking them again on the 25th of October. I was 249 lbs, now I'm 241, so I lost 9 pounds of lingering water weight in 20 days. I find it very helpful."

"I took this medication combo hydrochlorothiazide/triamterene for 2 years, then, all of a sudden, I had really bad shortness of breath. It felt like anxiety. I took a Benadryl and naproxen because it felt like my throat was closing. The shortness of breath went away. Every time I start back on this medication, I get this horrible shortness of breath. I won’t be taking this medication anymore."

"I have been on triamterene 37.5-25 hydrochlorothiazide for over 35 years. Lately, I noticed I need to watch my diet more closely and watch my salt intake. The doctor has been trying to change my medication with no success. I have had no major side effects. I have to make sure to stay hydrated and eat some bananas and other food to keep potassium in balance to avoid leg cramps."

"Been taking this drug for about 5 years. In year 2, started having severe back pain. Last year, was diagnosed with gout that rendered me unable to walk. Uric acid was a 12.8. Had to be put on uric acid-lowering meds due to this drug. Now I only take it every other day. But dieting, fasting, and watching what I eat has made the biggest difference."

"Was on medicine for 7 days. First 4 days were fine. Last 3 days took a turn for the worse. Felt dizzy, heart palpitations, and severe nausea. I went to the ER. The doctor told me the medicine was too hard for my body, electrolytes were thrown off, and it started to affect my kidney. I had to have 2 liters of fluid, and a potassium pill was given."

"On a 37.5 dose for BP for 5 days now. Already taking carvedilol for heart rhythm (low dose) and losartan 100 mg also for BP. My doctor suggested this drug to help with potassium levels since a previous diuretic caused me all kinds of heart rhythm issues. Was fine until today (day 5) and now getting some of my unusual heartbeats. No other side effects noticed yet. I will see how it goes but hoping it will stabilize and my heart will stop with the rhythm issue. Took BP 3 times today 140/96, 136/102, 145/87....none are great. Was hoping to see a bigger drop by now. Was running about 157/102 prior. Fingers crossed but may have to look for a different path forward."

"I am a 75-year-old male. Two months ago, my doctor added Triamterene-HCTZ 37.5-25 mg to my regular BP medicine, Amlodipine Besylate 5 mg, that I have been taking for the last two years. I now take 1/2 tablet of the former and one tablet of the latter a day. The blood pressure is now reduced to 130/75 from 150/90. The side effects started to show after a month of Triamterene-HCTZ: terrible cough, pain in my lower right side going to my testicles, dizziness, and hot flashes. I will ask my doctor to prescribe another BP medicine. I tried Lisinopril and Losartan in the past with an unbearable cough as a side effect."

Hydrochlorothiazide / triamterene "I had taken Dyazide for years. A couple of years ago during the pandemic, the pharmacist informed me that it was being discontinued. Switched over to Triamterene. This is not working. My blood pressure has shot up and lowered so many months. I think I have gotten a bad batch of medicine. Even had to go to the hospital. I have lost weight, and blood pressure is getting higher and higher. I am not diabetic. There is such a thing that if you don't report it, your doctor just lets it go in one ear and out the other. Anyone else have issues with this generic?"

"I have been taking this medicine triamterene hydrochlorothiazide 37.5 together with Benicar 40 mg and amlodipine 10 mg daily. My high blood pressure was bad some 5 years ago, and now recently it has improved to normal range since 6 months. But my kidneys are abnormal, so my specialist has stopped me with triamterene and replaced it with metoprolol low dose. To see if it will improve my kidney. Will let you know if it improves. L.P."
