"I have suffered from OCD since my early 20s (now 28), and it was only until last year that I found a doctor who specialized in OCD and prescribed Luvox for my mental health. Before this, I was on Prozac and Lexapro for years, which helped a tiny bit but nowhere near enough. I wish I knew about Luvox years ago, it has saved my life. It is the only antidepressant that has reduced my compulsions and obsessive thoughts from 100% down to 20%. My OCD is not completely gone, but this drug has quieted my mind so much, and I only recommend it for other OCD sufferers to try if nothing else works. It took nearly a month to work. I started at 50 mg, then to 100, and worked my way up to 200, which is what has cleared my mind and made me able to function as a normal person in my daily work and personal life. I hear higher doses work best for OCD, so if 50 or 100 isn't working, don't be afraid to try higher (up to 300 for OCD). Side effects for me are sweating and slight weight gain. However, it's worth it."

"I was on Luvox for OCD, MDD, anxiety, and dermatillomania. Zoloft didn't work, so I tried Luvox. At first, I felt a slight uplift in my mood, but then I started crying every day and became anorexic. I lost weight to the point where I began to look sickly. I've never had any eating disorder prior to my experience on Luvox. It felt like I relapsed and got worse symptoms from my OCD. I'm sure this drug helps others, but it just wasn't the right one for me."

"I've been on Luvox for 6 months now at 200 mg/day. I switched from Prozac because of libido problems, but it actually didn't make any difference. I completely lost interest in sex and gained weight really fast. My OCD is controlled, but I feel depressed, sleeping a lot during the day and nothing during the night. Haha, it's horrible... Also, I compulsively scratch my head until it bleeds (trichotillomania?) and Prozac had helped me stop it. Now on Luvox, the problem is back. I'm switching back to Prozac or giving a try to Zoloft."

"I have been on Luvox for 4 years now, and it has worked for me very well for OCD. I almost have no anxiety anymore. The downsides are that I have had loss of libido, constipation all the time, and insomnia. I haven’t had any problems with weight gain like other antidepressants."

"One week and a half, and so far, so good - takes me down several notches for anxiety, which is good! I've had OCD for over 35 years, and it's going to be very hard to break - it may be helping a smidge?"

"I switched to Luvox because Effexor was making my cholesterol go through the roof, and now the sexual side effects are back, and I'm more tired than usual. I take 450 mg Wellbutrin with it, along with various supplements. I'm going to give it a few weeks before trying something else."

"I admitted myself to a psych ward to find something better for my OCD, as it is causing my life to be hell and only getting worse as I age. Being overwhelmed is not an option in my life, and simple things do that to me. With the addition of repetitive neck cracking and such odd habits, I find that Luvox helps with my mental obsessions. I can go hours now without repeating thoughts or spelling/counting. But it has done very little for the physical movements that I feel in agony if I don’t do it. I started on one-half .50 mg 2x a day, last week I was upped to 1 whole .50 mg 2x a day. I now feel very deep, sad bouts every now and again, but I just try to wait them out. I don’t know, hopefully after 4-6 weeks I get adjusted. I feel like I didn’t have these symptoms the first time."

"I take Anafranil for 32 years now, after a diagnosis of OCD when I was 15 years old; the doctor said I would have to take it for the rest of my life. Two years ago, I asked the psychiatrist to try to switch the medicine because of side effects I have that really disturb me (great hair loss, permanent dry mouth, lack of libido, etc.). Eventually, she prescribed fluvoxamine, so I stopped Anafranil and started it. The experience was AWFUL: immediately I started feeling kind of detached from everything, what it came out to be a profound state of depression. The doctor increased the dose, and things didn't change at all. After two and a half months taking fluvoxamine and feeling completely depressed, emotionally detached from everything, and with a permanent underlying 'dark'/strange feeling, I decided to stop it. Instead, that night I took half of my usual 75 mg Anafranil; the next morning I was just fine, the 'normal', functional me."

"I know this medicine is supposed to be great, but the internal tremors are driving me crazy. I've been on Luvox for a week now, and the tremors make my anxiety 10 times worse! I also have a raspy voice that comes and goes."

"Considering quitting Luvox / fluvoxamine. I’ve been on Luvox for 9 weeks on 100 mg. Increased the dose to 200 mg since 10 days ago and considering giving up on the medication as I feel it’s not helping me. I’m not sure what to do, whether I should stick to the increased dose or just give it up right now."

"Makes my OCD manageable. Has given me headaches and/or insomnia when I start taking it for the first time in a long time, but they usually go away. And it sure beats staying up because I’m too anxious to fall asleep. (Have been taking it on and off for about 4 years.) Just remember everyone’s bodies respond to different drugs differently."

"Helps a lot with obsessive thoughts, and has caused a slight uplift in mood and some relief from general anxiety symptoms and sensory sensitivity. Fatigue is a big issue, as are GI symptoms: stomach cramps, incomplete bowel movements, gassiness, nausea. Causes very vivid dreams/nightmares and interrupts sleep. Had issues with blurred vision when increasing dosage. No brain zaps, but I definitely have developed involuntary muscle twitches, mostly in my legs. Seems to be worsening dissociative episodes. I am still at a low dose (75mg), and actively in therapy."

"I took Luvox for one day. My OCD had been getting better because of ERP, and I knew my OCD theme was just OCD. However, when I took Luvox, I literally felt like my OCD came to life, and it was worse than ever. It dramatically worsened my OCD, I literally felt psychotic, and I could barely sleep that night."

"I was prescribed this drug for OCD, depression, and anxiety. I couldn't take it for longer than 2 days. It did not help me with anxiety or depression, it only made it worse. If you take this drug and it makes you feel awful, you're not the only one."

"On Luvox, I woke up one morning and just decided I didn't need to bite my nails anymore. After 40 years of nail biting, I'm cured. It's also helped my OCD disappear. It's an amazing medication!"

"Tried Prozac and Zoloft prior. Luvox is by far my favorite. Prozac made me numb, Zoloft ruined my life, and Luvox completely eased my OCD."

"I have been on Luvox for a bit more than three months by now. Started with 50 mg and went up to 150 mg by indication of my doctor. At first, it was horrible, my anxiety increased, and I got a pretty bad case of insomnia. However, after about three weeks and a few days, everything got a lot better and more manageable. Also, I started taking 25 to 50 mg of Lyrica to help with the insomnia. I have to say that Luvox has helped me a lot. After a whole life dealing with OCD and smoking and drinking to get by with the symptoms and the fears, Luvox has helped me a lot to deal with everything and has improved my quality of life a lot. I have even been able to stop smoking completely since I began the treatment. Overall, my experience has been really good, though I cannot say that all my symptoms have gone away. But it has helped a lot. I think that I have to put my best effort to help with the amount of the illness that persists. I wanted to share this experience to help other people."
