"Got it in the beginning of the year. Everything was good for about a month. Then I started bleeding constantly. Haven't had a break from bleeding for about 2 months now. Spent almost as much money for pads/tampons as I did for the out-of-pocket money for the implant. Hot and cold flashes are terrible. Still have period cramps. Only thing it's done good for is preventing pregnancy, and it hasn't made me gain weight. Definitely getting it taken out, though, just so the bleeding will stop and everything will go back to normal."

"I got my Nexplanon 11/21/14, and my nonstop bleeding started in January and hasn't stopped since. First, it was heavy for one week, then light, then heavy for two weeks, now it's just spotting, and I think it's about to go off, but I can never be sure... just ready for it to go off because I'm tired of buying pads."

"I’ve never written a review for any medication, but I felt the need to warn other women about this birth control. I got my implant in Oct 2020, and Dec 15, I’m getting it removed. It’s been an absolute nightmare. It doesn’t come with cramps, but it’s sometimes extremely heavy and other times very light. At this point, I have no idea when it’s coming, as it literally comes every 2 or 3 days, sometimes lasting for 2 weeks. The longest one was about 16 days, which was extremely heavy. I have also been feeling depressed. I get panic attacks from the sun going down because my mood drastically declines when it gets dark. I have never experienced any of these symptoms and don’t have a history of any kind of mental health illnesses. I am afraid to be home alone due to the intrusive thoughts I’ve been having, and everyone around me has noticed I haven’t been myself. Please take caution and research this method thoroughly before getting it implanted. Wish you all health and happiness."

"I have been on this for about 2 years, I barely get any periods, mostly just spotting. No weight gain, you don't have to think about it but every other three years, and it just goes in your arm. I think it's the best birth control out there for now. I think it is perfect for me, but everyone's body will react differently."

"Well, let's see. I would not recommend this to anyone. Why? You like being bipolar II? Because that is what you get. Do you like your monthly period for a month with 2 weeks of no period? Because that is what you will get. My OB/GYN lied to me. She said this was better than the pill (I was having massive mood swings as well as really bad cramps being on the pills, and I would always forget to take them) and told me that this birth control method would be the way to go. I lost my health insurance, so for almost 3 years, I had to deal with having suicidal thoughts nearly almost every day, being over-emotional, anxiety through the roof, mood swings, and a period for a month with 2 weeks off (AND NO, IT IS NOT SPOTTING). I currently just got my health insurance back, so in September (because that is when I can get in), I am getting this awful thing out of my arm. It's okay because now I am going to be more cognizant of what I put in my body. NEVER AGAIN!!! I know people are different, but nope, NEVER AGAIN!!"

"I got this in July. I started my regular period when I got it inserted, and my period escalated to soaking through a pad every 10 minutes. I took birth control pills to fix this. I bled for 2 months straight like a normal period. Now I always am spotting, some days heavy flow. I usually always feel crampy now. I gained 10 pounds within two weeks of having this, all in my stomach. I always have migraines. I get more pimples and am always tired. I randomly get sad and angry for no reason. Also, my sex drive has been slowly but surely diminishing. I am keeping it only because it's keeping me baby-free."

"I got Nexplanon in Jan 2020 after coming off Depo-Provera. I haven't had a period, which is amazing. But... I've gained 50 pounds. I get bad migraines. I'm irritable, and honestly, I think it is time to just get it removed and try a different method. I don't even have a sex drive anymore."

"After using the Nexplanon for almost a year (October 2019 - September 2020), I can say that overall I did not have many side effect symptoms other than bleeding for weeks at a time. It was frustrating to wake up every morning and see that I was still bleeding. Not only that, but the time between my periods was only 2-3 weeks. I never had a normal period on the Nexplanon and my friend who also had the implant felt the same, she bled for a year straight while my cycle would be 24 days at the least. It was very irregular within those days as well, some days would be heavy, some would be light, some days I would be bloated and have cramps, and some I would have headaches and back pain. It was all very unpredictable. After having my period for 36 days straight twice in a row, I decided my frustration was unbearable. I had to take out my Nexplanon. Though it was a very effective form of birth control, I could not take the periods any longer."

"I've had Nexplanon for 4 months. It has been effective in preventing pregnancy, and not having to take a pill is convenient. But that's where the pros end. A couple of weeks after having it inserted, my mood swings were off the chart. I was snapping at everyone for the littlest things. I've never had a problem with depression in the 23 years I've been alive and have been depressed since I started this birth control. On top of that, my sex drive is gone. I was crazy, head over heels in love with my husband up until I started this prescription. Now I can hardly stand to have him kiss me, I'm so turned off. And it's not him, it's definitely the Nexplanon. Definitely getting it removed."

"I've had Nexplanon twice -- the first time was great, no issues. The second was fine until the last year of the implant's life -- I was spotting every single day for about 3-4 months. My mood spiraled into a very, very dark place with intrusive thoughts quickly, and my breasts hurt constantly. I decided I was going to have the implant removed after consulting my doctor and friends, who were worried about my health. However, I was dealing with an eating disorder when the implant was inserted, and years later when it was removed, I was at a much healthier weight. They could not get it out on the first go because it had moved slightly and was under more tissue than when it was implanted. Finally, it was removed two weeks later, and I began to feel better one to two weeks after that. I think that the implant is a good option for some people, but beware that your body can change and just begin to react badly to it, especially when the implant is nearing the end of its life."

"I have had Implanon since March 2008, and the main side effects that I have are periods that are long-lasting, from 10 to 21 days, no libido/sex drive, and mood swings. My partner complains because I'm frequently on my period, which can be very frustrating."

"Do not put your bodies through this, ladies. It might sound good, but it made me bleed nonstop for 4 months long. It’s horrible. I gained 20 lbs. It increased my appetite. I just feel hungry all the time and never satisfied. I have had it for 10 months. Can’t wait to have it removed and have my natural cycles back. The side effects are not worth it. I also felt depressed all the time on Nexplanon, and it gives me random hot flushes and headaches. I’ve noticed I break out in acne since having it."

"I've had Nexplanon for about three years, and recently got it renewed. I've had a lot of sex, and not once did I ever get pregnant. I never gained weight while on this product, and I've eaten the same way. Really, the only issue is I get anxious a lot more easily, and my period didn't completely stop, but everybody's body reacts differently. Personally, Nexplanon is great for me, but it definitely isn't for everybody."

"I am 21 years old and have had Nexplanon for about 6 months now, and I HATE IT. I need to get it out of me ASAP! I've been bleeding for 5 months straight, and on top of that, I've turned into one crazy woman. I've become so, so, so depressed, I cry almost every day. It's crazy how that little thing in your arm can change you entirely. I feel like I've lost myself. Do not get this birth control!!"

"I absolutely love Nexplanon. I got it inserted in July 2013. Since then, I have had one extremely light period that lasted two days. I have no experience with weight gain. I have always had very little acne, and Nexplanon did not cause my acne to increase. I also haven't experienced any changes in moodiness. I recommend Nexplanon to my friends all the time. I also have a friend that has it, and she really likes it, although she has experienced some weight gain. I am very surprised so many people have had such a terrible experience. If you are considering getting Nexplanon, do not let these horror stories scare you away. Everyone has a different experience, so you'll have to see if it's a good birth control option for you."

"I have had the Implanon for about 5 months now, and it's great! I only spot for about a day or two each month, and that's it. I have actually lost weight since then as well. Nothing has really changed with me since I got it. No mood swings or acne."

"I’m a teen, and after I had my baby, doctors pressured me to get on Nexplanon and told me it would stop my periods, so I got the implant on January 7th, 2021. In the beginning, everything was fine. About a week after getting the implant, I started my period, and the longest it has stopped for has been 5 days. It’s now April 6, 2021. I’ve been suffering with depression, BPD, and anxiety, but ever since getting on this implant, it has skyrocketed. I’m always depressed, I get anxious all the time. I’ve been having the worst thoughts, hate my body image, and my overall mental health is the worst it’s ever been. I would never recommend this to anybody. I feel like I’m living in a nightmare. Constant mood swings, always mad, horrible acne, suicidal thoughts. I'd rather be pregnant again than to use this. Doctors should really express to people with a history of bad mental health that it will make a horrible impact on your mental health. I’m getting this removed within the next week."

"I have been on Nexplanon for about 7 months now. I thought I would be fine because both my sisters have had it for years. The first month I started having panic attacks, it was so bad that at work I would run to my boss crying because I needed to go home. I was so scared for uni to start. I ended up going to the doctors, they didn’t understand why. I started uni in September, and I was fine for the most part. It’s now March, and I have been having anxiety pains in my chest, the back of my head, the left side of my body, and shots of pain in my elbow right under where the Nexplanon was implanted. I finally started to worry about it. I’ve dealt with it for too long, and I’m at the point it is just not worth it. I don’t want this to control me anymore. Just remember everyone is different. I am now getting it out this week or next week. I do recommend it because it did help me a lot. But if you are getting anxiety symptoms, don’t let it get worse. You should get it out."

"This is my 3rd insertion of the Nexplanon and will be removing it indefinitely as soon as possible. I noticed on the 2nd insertion that my moods were out of whack, I gained a lot of weight, and towards the end of the cycle, I felt myself again. After a month of my 3rd implant, I again feel noticeable moments of sadness and anger for no reason!!!! My husband confirms that it’s an off/on switch with my moods, and he doesn’t understand why. This is not worth it... I will gladly pop out another kid if it means not dealing with this terrible birth control method."

"I just got my Implanon implanted on Friday, after being on the Depo shot for 3 years. Very simple. The anxiety is the worst part. It took about 15 minutes to actually prep/insert. I consider myself moderately tolerant to pain and needles - the numbing part hurt a bit, but I couldn't feel him doing the implant at all, and the doctor made the comment, 'You have tough skin.' I have just a small bruise and a tiny hole - no stitches, just a bandaid and cover the same as when you donate blood."

"I just had this implant removed after having it in for only 3 days! The first day was not bad since I had it implanted around 6 pm. The rest of the days I had the worst anxiety. I cried for 2 days straight and even started thinking I would be better off dead than take another second in so much anxiety and depression. Please, if you already suffer from anxiety, don’t get it!! It seems to affect some women’s mental health more than others. I didn’t want to take the risk and had it removed ASAP."

"I had almost continuous spotting for the first 3 months. Bit of a pain to deal with, but worth it, since... After about 3 months, it stopped. It's been over a year now, and no additional spotting or periods. Also, no pregnancies, which was/is the main goal. Absolutely worth getting, for me."

"This birth control appealed to me because it's estrogen-free, you don't need to remember a daily pill, and it lasts for a long amount of time. I had Nexplanon inserted on 3-13-14. I got my period the next day. Today marks 7 months of constant bleeding. Having said this, I'm sure it's highly effective birth control, but for me it was more so effective because it caused me to not have sex. The first couple of weeks I was a little extra emotional, but that stopped quickly. I had no other side effects. I have friends who went on this and stopped having periods altogether, so I'm sure my experience was exceptional."

"I got Implanon on August 6th, 2013. Soon after, I noticed non-stop bleeding and mood swings. I cried very often and also ended a relationship. I went through depression, anxiety, and had serious headaches. I haven't quit bleeding for more than a week since I've been on it. I don't recommend it to anyone under 18."

"DON'T GET NEXPLANON. It has brought me nothing but misery. I’ve experienced tremendous weight gain, acne, depression and anxiety, back and breast pain, headaches, brain fog, and fatigue. It’s been extremely hard trying to find a Planned Parenthood to remove the implant during the COVID-19 pandemic. I’ve been placed on a 2-week to 1-month waiting list and haven’t been contacted for almost 4 weeks now. I’ve also talked with a friend who has it too, and she’s been having the same side effects. My friend also found in her research that Nexplanon hasn’t been tested on plus-size women. And I’ve also noticed when speaking with other users of this drug that each person’s implant expiration is a couple of years off. Mine is supposed to last for 4 years, my friend's for 7, and I’ve heard 5 or 6 for others, and we all have the exact same implant. Not enough research, super crappy side effects, and too much negligence from providers. Just take the pill."
