"As far as effectiveness, I did not get pregnant while taking this medication. However, I experienced so many side effects I eventually stopped taking it and switched back to Ortho-Tri-Lo. I experienced problems with mood swings, irritability, anxiety (racing heart and anxious feelings for no reason), depression, cramps, spotting, headaches, decreased sex drive, weight gain, breast/nipple tenderness, and vaginal irritation. All of these are side effects I had never experienced with Ortho, so I switched back and have little to no side effects. It definitely was not worth the money saved because it made me feel like a crazy person, and I really did not have control over my emotions. I would experience all extremes, especially anger and crying."

"I started on the pill when I was around 20 years old. I was taking Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo and never had an issue. A year or two later, I switched to Tri-Lo-Sprintec, I believe because my insurance only covered generic at that point (I just now discovered that Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo was discontinued.) I was taking this for about 3 years and didn’t notice any big changes or side effects. My ‘periods’ were regular, and I still had cramps, but nothing out of the ordinary. Last year at 26, I stopped taking the pill and went off birth control altogether. Here we are a year later, and I decided to get back on the pill. I started on Sunday, and the next day, I felt nauseous. I took it again that morning, not thinking anything of it. My symptoms progressively got worse throughout the day. I’ve been sick with nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, chest pain, stomach cramps, and headaches for at least four days now. The only thing I’ve been doing differently is taking this pill. I’m never touching BC again."

"Don't worry, ladies. I'm one of the apparent few who don't have a bad experience! I feel fine, no acne, no weight gain, no nausea. So if you're thinking about it, just give it a try, it works differently for everyone!"

"The first two months, Tri-Lo-Sprintec worked fine, month three, my period started at the beginning of week 2 for some reason and lasted most of the way through week 4. Month four, my period started at the beginning of week 3 (a week early), which I guess is an improvement from last month... very frustrating to have multi-week periods! I thought I wouldn't have to deal with irregular bleeding since the first two months were perfect, but it can still happen, and mine has been quite excessive. I'm going to stop taking it at the end of this pack and switch to another method if needed. I've also experienced more nausea on my periods than I did before birth control."

"I was on other birth controls several years ago, but I stopped taking it when I had weight gain and more acne. I asked my doctor for one that could help with acne, and he prescribed Tri-Lo-Sprintec. I have been on it for around a year and I love it! It cleared up my skin and I rarely get any acne, and it decreases my appetite. I never had any major changes in period lengths or heaviness, if anything, it made me have more stomach cramps. Everyone finds their perfect birth control, and this one was mine! I suggest you try it if you’re on the fence!"

"Ok, Tri-Lo-Sprintec works for preventing pregnancy, but honestly, I don't know anymore if it's worth it. I have been on it for 4 months now, and recently I find myself crying, without appetite, sad. I feel so hopeless right now! Not even my little baby cheers me up, and this is not me. My assumption is that this pill is messing up my mind. I should stop it and try to be my happy self again, though I don't know what pill to try now, all of them have the same type of feedback. I'm afraid to try another one that might be even worse. I just want to feel happy to be alive again. Secondly, I've been having pain in my breasts, and they feel heavy and swollen, like when you breastfeed, but I'm not breastfeeding since months ago! Anyone else felt breast pain on this pill? Oh! Third, but not last, my libido has decreased a little bit significantly, but I have noticed it's not the same as before either. So yep, I'm thinking to give up on this!"

"Like many others, I switched to Tri-Lo-Sprintec birth control after Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo was discontinued. I had a previously bad experience with this, but I decided to give it another try since I really didn’t have any other options. Worst mistake ever! I have been on it this time for almost 4 months, and I stopped after the first week of my new pack because I just can’t take it anymore. My skin has not been affected by this medication, but the bloating and weight gain are awful! The only time I feel halfway normal is during the last week with the placebos, even with my period. Oh, and those have been much worse since taking these pills... heavier and cramping badly. After reading other reviews, I’m starting to wonder if they’ve been the cause of my headaches as well. I’m not sure what I’m going to do instead, but I don’t feel like myself anymore while taking these, so they are no longer an option for me."

"I'm not sure how there are so many reviews for this Tri-Lo-Sprintec. It just went on the market 12/31/2015. My insurance forced me to switch to it from Ortho-Tri-Lo. I have not been on it long enough to write a review yet."

"Worst pill I’ve ever taken. I wasn’t even told about the discontinuation of Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo, and Benecard simply chose the Tri-Lo-Sprintec for me. I was taking it for about 9 months, and at 43, I’m waking up with at least 4-5 new pimples every day as the others clear up. The cysts in my breasts have swelled, and they are so painful. My breast doctor won’t aspirate them because I had an augmentation a couple of years ago. Another problem I was experiencing is some weight gain, which I’ve never had before since I was a teen, and I was getting my cycle up to a week early. I finally had it and just stopped taking it. I’ve read articles saying it’s supposed to be the exact same ingredients, but this can’t be the case with such side effects. I’ve been miserable."

"I've only been using this birth control for about a month. I switched from Trinessa Lo because it was being discontinued. I was a little shaky taking it after looking at reviews, but I am so glad I did. It definitely has cleared up my face where I tend to get breakouts all over my face. It doesn't give me necessarily any side effects other than maybe a little bloating and food cravings, but I can control that. It doesn't make me emotional or angry like my last birth control. The only reason I'm not giving this a 10 is because it has only been three weeks."

"I had used the shot and the implant. After a 2-year hiatus, I wanted to try the pill. This pill has increased my appetite. I would starve (off the pill) from stress. I had nausea the first few days, but I had it off the pill too. My stubborn cystic acne reduced. I felt some anxiety the first few days, but nothing new. My bra size went up. I get headaches sometimes, but it’s probably my caffeine dependency. I got asked if I lost weight. I’ve had worse side effects off other medicines and vitamins and stress than right now. The only reason I’m not rating higher is ‘cause I’m used to “heavy-duty” birth control. Those methods feel brutal, but I had peace of mind knowing there’d be no need to get an abortion. That’s why I can’t give it a 9 or 10. It may be right for some women’s bodies. I mean, I’m super sensitive to side effects, but I’ve been normal. So try it for a week and stop if it’s bad, don’t stick with it."

"Everyone's body is completely different, and Tri-Lo-Sprintec may work for some, but my experience was not the best. I took it for about 8 months, and during the last two months, I would have anxiety and outbursts of crying and felt really depressed. I also completely lost my sex drive. It was really hard for me to continue, so I stopped taking it, and all of the symptoms went away within 42 hours. The reason I'm giving it 2 stars and not one is that it did work for a while and didn't cause acne or weight gain, but I will not be taking it ever again."

"I am almost done with my first pack, which is a new formulation that came out late last year. I did take FE Microgestin 1/20 a few years ago and stopped because that made me lose my libido, gain weight, and just feel dead inside. I decided to give it a shot again and was given this as a generic alternative. I like this better than Microgestin, but I have been feeling extremely tired and unmotivated, experienced minor spotting during the third week of hormone pills, and my vision becomes blurry from time to time. Not sure if the blurry vision is normal, but I hope that these symptoms subside after my body gets more used to it. Will leave another review in a few months."

"I used to take an off-brand, non-named combination birth control, which caused me to have extremely painful periods in the middle of the pack (I was taking this for around 8 months, and it was still happening!!). I switched to this birth control, Tri-Lo-Sprintec, so that would stop happening, and I've been spotting, but not too bad. My last period wasn’t nearly as painful, and I haven’t had the same negative experiences as some of these other comments. This birth control is effective!!"

"I have been using Tri-Sprintec Lo for about 2 weeks after switching from the NuvaRing. I have had many symptoms from it. I have been breaking out with acne on my chest and a few on my face, which I never had a problem with any acne before. I have had breast tenderness, occasional cramps, and a few headaches. I have also noticed that my hair has been shedding a lot more than usual and noticed that it is a bad side effect. I would rather have these symptoms than the ones I had with the NuvaRing. I was having something similar to hot flashes. I am going to call my doctor today and ask about it. I am going to try this one for about 2 months like I did the NuvaRing, and if it doesn't change, then I will try something else."

"I have been taking this medication for 7 months now, and I wish I would’ve stopped it sooner. I have had issues with any birth control I have tried. Unfortunately, my body is very sensitive. This medication has been by far the worst! I have experienced significant hair loss and severe panic/anxiety attacks, which I have never had before. I thought my body would adjust to this medication, however, it has definitely gotten worse over time."

"I was put on this Tri-Lo-Sprintec birth control since my other one got discontinued. Within the first month, I started not feeling like myself at all. Well, let me tell you, I’ve never experienced anxiety until taking this pill, nor panic attacks. Easter morning, I had my first panic attack and had no idea at the time until I went to the ER. I ended up having another panic attack three days later. I was recommended to see a therapist. So, I saw a therapist, and she told me I was depressed. Depression doesn’t run in my family, nor have I ever had it before, but this pill made me to where I didn’t leave my bedroom for about two days. Didn’t want to see friends or family, go out, do anything, go to work, driving was the worst. This anxiety stuck with me for a good two months after stopping this horrible pill. I’m now six months off of it and finally feeling like myself and normal again. This pill does help by not getting pregnant and helps with your cramps, but that’s it."

"I was very nervous to take this birth control because I was reading all these horrible reviews, and it was my first time on birth control. I'm on my second month of the pills, and I'm doing great. Shorter and super lighter periods. I used to have 2 days of full-on period, and now I only have one, barely! My skin looks amazing. The only thing I will agree with is that it does give you a strong headache, but nothing a good nap will fix. No mood swings or increased appetite. I'm going to be using these pills for a very long! :)"

"I started this Tri-Lo-Sprintec pill in March of this year. Within a couple of weeks of taking it, I noticed I was really anxious all the time. I ended up having a panic attack and going to the ER. (At this point, I had no idea it was the pill). I went to my doctor to discuss my frequent feeling of anxiety, to the point it started to affect my life. I was given anti-anxiety meds and referred to a therapist. My family is great, my career is going well, our children are thriving. What could be causing me to lose my mind? (At least I felt like I was losing my mind). Fast forward... I was on my last week on Tri-Lo-Sprintec (placebo pills) when I noticed my anxiety decreased a little bit. Whew! Finally, light at the end of the tunnel. Had my menstrual cycle and started my new pack of pills that Sunday. I ended up in the ER again that same day. My anxiety was bad, panic attack, and suicidal thoughts! I have been off this pill for three weeks now, and I am just now starting to feel like myself again."

"Okay. So. I know the demographic of girls who look at these reviews, your mom/partner/family/whoever is pressuring you to go on birth control, but you’re terrified to because of the side effects. I once upon a time was like you, dear reader… and let me just say that my story had a happy ending. For the longest time, I refused to go on birth control, primarily because I was terrified of gaining weight. I grew up a fat kid and worked hard as far from obese as possible - I would be darned if I let a silly little pill destroy every ounce of progress I made. However, this pill worked amazing for me. The first month I had extreme side effects (severe mood swings, but no bloating/weight gain), but after that it was all sunshine and rainbows. Shorter periods, lighter cramps, and no weight gain! Just remember that all BCs work differently for different people!"

"I've been on Tri-Lo-Sprintec for about 6 months now. This method was recommended by my gyno for normal contraception but also for my cystic acne that was out of control. I would constantly have 4-5 painful bumps on my face, and they would take weeks to go away. When I first started this pill, I immediately noticed extreme mood swings. So extreme that I could acknowledge when I was going to blow up because my face would get really warm, and I would just flip out on my boyfriend. On top of my mood swings, I cramped a lot, and my sex drive was non-existent. I'm still on this method and still have bad mood swings - I think I've gotten used to just being grumpy. On a good note, my cystic acne is gone, it took 3-4 months."

"I talked to my doctor about getting on the pill, mainly for birth control. I also asked to be on a pill that will help clear my moderate acne and not make it worse. I was given Tri-Lo-Sprintec. After reading the mostly awful reviews about it, I was really nervous to start taking it, but I thought I'd give it a shot and if it was awful, talk to my doctor about an alternative. I'm now on day 7 and there haven't been any major complications. The only negatives are that I get headaches and occasional nausea (not severe) and as far as my acne, it hasn't really made a change. My doctor said it will take a few months to adjust, so I'll see how things go, but so far it's not too bad. Gave it half stars because I'm only on day 7."

"I was on Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo for about five years. It was fantastic, no problems at all. My insurance switched me to Tri-Lo-Sprintec and initially I was excited because it's fully covered. The first month was fine, and then the breakouts started. They have gradually gotten worse. I gave it six months to see if things would settle down, but they haven't at all. I'm broken out on my chest, back, all up my neck and behind my ears, along my jaw and forehead. I even had a huge zit on my earlobe this week. These are not normal breakouts. I'm so disappointed in this generic and I'm switching."

"It’s been almost two months since I was put on this birth control for my acne. The first month was amazing! No negative side effects at all, I actually lost weight instead of gaining. I’m on my second pack, once I started week three of this pack, it seems like everything has gone downhill. I'm having the worst cramps I’ve ever had, painkillers and heating pads are barely helping. I start my actual period in two weeks, right now, it’s breakthrough bleeding. It’s really heavy, it’s been almost a week, and neither of these are getting better. When pains do go away, it’s not permanent. They come in waves and it’s just so painful. Maybe this is normal, but my doctor never told me I’d cramp up like this. The only peace I get is when I wake up and for the first hour or so, it’s just slight pains. I definitely believe the birth control is causing this pain. I’m glad to see I’m not the only one going through this, it makes me feel a little relieved."

"When I first started this, I was terrified because of the experiences other girls had, but everybody is different. Considering this was my first ever birth control, I was mostly scared of weight gain and mood changes. None of that was the case! I come from a sex drive that is very low, but when I was on this, that completely changed. I also never had an ounce of weight gain, and my mood never changed a bit. My periods were very irregular to start with (11-15 day cycles with a 2-week gap in between for the first 4 months). That quickly subsided and became more regular. My cramps were very minimal, and let’s face it girls... period cramps make us want to crawl in a hole and cry. Since this is a hybrid type pack, you don’t have to take it on the dot every single day at the same time. There’s a little give in the timing, but still try to be consistent. I was on this for about a year, and I have nothing but good things to say!"
