"I've been on this birth control for two months now and have experienced almost zero bad side effects. I have lost my appetite most of the time, which has resulted in me losing a little weight, which can be considered a negative or a positive. I have been getting angry very easily since I've been on this medicine, but I've always had issues with my anger, so it isn't a huge difference. My skin has actually cleared up and I do have sex with my boyfriend without condoms sometimes, and we have not gotten pregnant or had any pregnancy scares. I would recommend this even though everyone reacts to birth control differently!"

"Been on Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo 28 days for 1.5 years, and it’s been great! Not a single pregnancy scare, decreased cramps, no nausea, barely any mood swings, overall excellent! HOWEVER, just recently got switched to the GENERIC version, Tricira Lo, which was fine for the first 3 months, but as of a month ago, I’ve been recently having terrible brand-new symptoms! Never missed a pill and take it at generally the same time every night like I always have! A month ago, I started having terrible cramps and got my period a week early (during the active pills), which lasted for two weeks! I have had various panic attacks and find my anxiety to be 10 times worse than it was before, not to mention I’ve been feeling nothing like myself lately! Extremely sensitive, crying all the time, very short-tempered. A month later, I get my period today, once again during my ACTIVE pills, already accompanied by terrible cramps! Terrible! 7 stars because the real brand generic version is good! BUT THE GENERIC IS rubbish!"

"Started for acne and birth control. Has been great for a while. Last six months have noticed extreme changes. Mood and body. I gained depression, weight, hated how I looked, etc. I would cry for absolutely no reason. My once calm, understanding person changed into a snappy, crying, freaking-out person. Get extremely sad over things I normally wouldn’t. This has changed so many relationships in my life. Thinking about something to the non-hormonal IUD, but worried about the acne."

"As far as birth control goes, it works, but I have had horrible headaches, monthly pains that I never had before, horrible mood swings, weight gain, and very bloated. I'm switching this week after my cycle."

"I am on the generic version of Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo. I've only been on it for one month, but so far I love it. I'm coming off of 5+ years of Depo shots, so I know my body hasn't fully gotten rid of the Depo yet. For this reason, I still haven't gotten a period on Ortho yet. But my mood hasn't changed, I haven't gained weight, and I don't have acne or nausea. I am slightly worried about getting pregnant because of prior reviews where this has happened on Ortho, but my husband pulls out as well, so I'm hoping we'll be fine. My boobs have gotten bigger, which I love! They are rounder and fuller. They are slightly more tender than usual but not to the point where it hurts. Anyway, I haven't been on it long, but I wanted to leave a positive review!"

"I have been on this birth control for 6 months now and highly considering going off of birth control completely. This pill makes me nauseous, my breasts are always tender, and if I'm not crying, I'm in a screaming fit of rage (my poor husband). It does regulate your cycles. My period usually lasted 9 days, and now it only lasts 3 or 4. But I'd take 9-day periods over feeling like this any day."

"I have just finished my first month of Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo. Before starting this pill, my Dr. put me on Lo Loestrin Fe. I had the WORST time with that pill. I bled the entire month, heavy for the most part. I was extremely moody and tired all the time, and to top it off, I got the yeast infection from hell. I couldn't stay on it anymore. When I found out about Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo, I read a lot of reviews and was scared to death to start taking this. There were TONS of negative things said about this pill. I honestly have to say that this pill is great. It feels like you're not taking anything. I just started my period, and it's light. I do have some cramps, but it's nothing extreme. I would suggest this pill to anyone. The only bad thing about it is that it is expensive."

"I used Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo for 4 years with no side effects or problems whatsoever. I loved this pill. In my 5th year, however, I had mono (my doctors think it was never actually diagnosed), which made my liver function decrease, and after months of nausea, fatigue, abdominal pain, CT scans, endoscopies, etc., I found that stopping the pill made the symptoms go away. My doctor's diagnosis is that for some reason, when I had mono, it affected my body enough that I couldn't tolerate oral contraception anymore. I'm really upset as I loved this pill and haven't had any luck with other contraceptive methods."

"After I noticed my Levora birth control was no longer helping my face stay clear of PMS-related acne, among other symptoms, I asked my doctor to switch me to a new birth control. She gave me Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo. I just started my second month on February 21st during the week of my period. My period came as a surprise because I had absolutely no PMS symptoms. No breaking out, no migraines, and no cramps. I have not experienced any side effects with this birth control, either. My doctor made an excellent choice for me. I hope my second month will be just as successful."

"I have used Tri-Cyclen Lo since I was 19, and I am 24 now. I definitely notice some mood swings and irritability the week before my period, but nothing severe. It made my cramps very minimal, it regulated my period and made it much shorter (4 days vs. it used to last a week or more), which was the reason I initially went on it. It works well for me, but everyone is different."

"Recently got back on birth control after many years of not being on it. This pill is okay. It's a contraceptive and does its job, but it wasn't the pill for me. Easy to take by mouth, no big deal. But, the side effects for me were: I would get headaches after taking the pill and sometimes randomly during the day. Also, the third week I started the new color, my emotions were off the wall. I wasn't eating properly and was overthinking EVERYTHING. I asked to switch, and now will be trying the generic version. Just because this pill wasn't for me doesn't mean it is for someone else."

"I’ve been on 3 different types of birth control, and this one is the best. My acne went away, barely noticeable PMS symptoms, and it made my boobs grow a size or 2. I went on it to help my migraines, and it's definitely helping!! I would recommend this one."

"GREAT! I have been on this pill since I was 17. I am now almost 22 and no complaints. I originally got on it to regulate my period, which it did, and shortened and lightened it too! Less acne. No weight gain. No pregnancies. With my insurance, it is free too!"

"I absolutely loved this birth control. It was my first experience using hormonal birth control methods, and it worked great for me. Had no cramping, bleeding, or weight gain. Some breast swelling and tenderness, but nothing too severe. No moodiness or anything, which was great. Had super light periods too. The only downside was price. Currently switching to Tri-Previfem because even with insurance, it costs $60."

"I've been on Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo for 4 years now. First, I used it to control acne, then continued to use it for acne and birth control. This birth control has helped tremendously in controlling my acne. I did put on close to 15 pounds, and I'm only now starting to have luck in taking it off-slowly! My breasts did get a little larger, and I do experience tenderness, tingling, or itchiness sometimes. I have lost most of my sex drive. However, in October 2009, I started experiencing dizzy spells and vision problems that have turned into full-blown migraines, headaches, and body aches. Almost 2 months ago I’ve developed mild to severe digestive problems. Just wanted to share with others. Hope it helps!"

"This pill does the job. I had been on it for 3 years, very sexually active and had never been pregnant. When I got married though (2 yrs ago), having a man there to notice every mood you are in and when things bother you made me realize what a complete mess I was when I was taking the pill. I would get ovarian cysts (in and out of the ER for them). I passed out a lot from nausea and dizziness. Headaches were chronic and I was super moody. My periods were pretty regular, but they were heavy and long. I broke out a lot and was super bloated when on it. ALL birth control pill side effects vary from person to person and their body types. So don't go off this alone, but at least give your body 3-4 months to adapt to the birth control pill and document daily how you are feeling."

"This is my first experience with birth control, and I've only been on it about two months, but I hate it. The pills make me crazy emotional; I've been crying over absolutely nothing, and I get paranoid about every little thing. Don't get me wrong, I love not having to worry about pregnancy as much, but I just feel depressed and not like myself at all. The good sides to this pill are that it makes my period very light with hardly any cramps, and it also has cleared up my acne a bit, but not completely."

"I've been on Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo for a little over a year now. I had a positive experience with it when I was a teen, so I wanted to try this again. At first, I loved it. Now I have acne, which I've NEVER had a big problem with, crazy mood swings, and a low libido (not to mention vaginal dryness...) Hoping maybe a few more months will get me over this bad spell. I would love to continue taking it because this birth control has never let me down."

"I have taken this pill for four months now and don't really have anything negative to say. I hit my 'two-year limit' with the Depo shot I was on, so my healthcare provider suggested this pill. I haven't been nauseous, no headaches, no appetite changes, no bloating, etc. The only negatives I can definitely complain about are the acne and sex drive. My acne is well contained while on the pill, but during the week 'break' it flares up worse than I've ever experienced. Also, I've noticed an extreme loss of sex drive along with a loss of energy. I usually cringe at the thought of having sex and losing sleep; and the only thing that has changed about my routine is this pill."

"For me, I had regular periods but quite heavy and sometimes last a few days more after my period pills were done. I gained weight, and in the beginning, I had major mood swings. Felt depressed and increased appetite. I also got more yeast infections when I never had them before."

"I have been using this pill for 3 years. I feel this pill helped clear up my acne. I have lighter periods, and my cramps are not as bad. I would recommend this pill for anyone who has a heavy flow and really bad cramps. Now my period only lasts a few days and hardly any pain. I do, however, get really emotional and moody! And have a decreased sex drive. I'm thinking about getting off of it because of my mood swings. Hope this helps."

"I had been on the pill for about 1 year. The first 3 months were pretty bad, experienced nausea and stomach pains. In the following months, my acne cleared, my period pains were less, and periods were shorter. I feel I retain water, and it shows I gained 10 lbs. I was more moody and worried about things that made me feel crazy. I just recently decided to stop using the pill. I want to get back to my normal self."

"I’ve been on this birth control for about 4 years and have had a great experience with it. My boobs got a bit larger on it, from a B cup to a D. Don’t think I gained too much weight, I am very active and have always stayed around the same weight, maybe 5-10 pounds more on it. I am pretty moody even before the pill, but I have noticed my PMS is worse on the pill, but it’s still manageable. Never had a pregnancy scare, and me and my boyfriend have had unprotected sex the last 3 years. Overall, very effective and minimal side effects for me!"

"I've been on this birth control for almost 2 weeks now, and there have been no negative side effects: no moodiness, no pimples, no weight gain or loss, etc. I've also already noticed my skin slightly less pimply (although this might have to do with certain times of the month/hormones, we'll see). If anything, I've noticed my mood become more stable and happy. So far, so good!"

"I switched to Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo after my insurance changed and Yaz became too expensive. I have been on Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo for about 4 months, and it has cleared up my acne and been completely effective as birth control. I was moody and anxious for the first 2 months, but I feel like I am adjusting to the hormones! I did gain about 5 lbs, but have lost them with exercise and a healthy diet! I am 5'8, 125 lbs. Hope this is helpful!"
