"Not the same. I was on Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo for 15 years (age 16-31). Initially went on it after a round of Accutane in high school to help keep my hormonal cystic acne at bay. It worked great and kept the babies away all throughout college and in my later 20s. I went off it a couple of years before my husband and I were planning to conceive to clean out my system. After I had my baby at 34, I was put on the mini pill. Overall, I didn’t mind Heather, but I did get nausea on it, and my periods weren’t predictable. I asked to switch back to my tried and true-Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo, only to find out they don’t make it anymore! Insert huge sad face with streaming tears. Still hopeful, I tried the generic version-this one, Tri-Lo-Sprintec. It is definitely no way like it at all. My chin has completely broken out, and my ovaries are swollen to the point of barely walkable cramps-2 weeks in. This never happened with Ortho. So upset they don’t make Ortho anymore, I will probably stop using the pill altogether."

"In May of 2011, I wound up in the ER because I couldn't stand or walk. I was in the middle of our local mall and started experiencing horrible pain in the pelvic region, as well as severe hot and cold flashes. I was misdiagnosed with pelvic inflammatory disease and was given several medications, including prescription hydrocodone. None of them touched the pain. Eventually, doctors realized that I was having cysts on both ovaries at the same time. They put me on Sprintec, which is affordable, and I have had no pain! It was hard for me to adjust to. Soreness in breasts and nausea, but my body has adapted to it, and I have been on it for four months now, and I love it."

"I got on Sprintec to try to fix acne and stop getting ovarian cysts. I haven't had an ovarian cyst for either month, and I've had at least one for 7 months in a row before starting this. At first, my back and chest broke out, which wasn't normal, and my face acne didn't get better or worse. My back and chest have been healing, and my face still is about the same, maybe a little better. My boobs hurt pretty bad for the whole first month but have felt better and almost back to normal now. I do feel nauseous, but I did before from ovarian cysts too, so I'm not sure if that's because of the birth control. I have felt hungry a lot from this, I think, but I haven't gained weight from it. I haven't had mood swings out of the ordinary. The biggest complaint I have about this is that my period cramps usually happened the first day or two and then went away, and on Sprintec, it's hurt the whole time I've been on my period. I'm also not pregnant, so it's doing its job on that part. So, overall, not complaining!"

"The only reason I gave this birth control a 2 was because it made my periods last two days, and my acne wasn't as bad. That's the only good thing I have to say about it. It has my anxiety come back, severe nausea, bad acid reflux, migraines, mood swings, insomnia, depression at times, and extremely tender breasts. It's hard to go off someone else's experiences because everyone is different."

"Dangerous. Especially if you are prone to anxiety or depression. My pharmacy switched me to this twice after Mononessa was no longer available. Once last year and again in the last month. I’ve spotted every day on this pill, with abnormal depression and anxiety. Definitely will never take again, and definitely do not recommend!!"

"I was diagnosed with PCOS about 6 months ago. My periods were every other month for a month straight, consistently heavy. I started off with Estraylla/Sprintec, and it was horrible the first month. I had breast tenderness that made it hard to wear a bra or even do activities that caused my breasts to move. The cramps and back pain were unbearable, none of which I had prior to starting birth control. I had migraines, and I was always sleepy. Then my period came and lasted for 36 days. After that, though, everything has calmed down, my period is regular and lasts 5 days max and light."

"LOVE this BCP. It's the only one I've tried that didn't make my hair fall out, didn't make me feel bloated, didn't make me swell, and didn't ruin my skin. My libido isn't dampened half as much as it was on other BCPs (it was non-existent on other BCPs). It helps immensely with PCOS symptoms. At first, it made me a little tired, but by the middle of week 2, I was fine. :) Love it. My insurance charged me $ for this drug, but that's against the ACA - there's no generic for this drug, and it was RX'd as medically necessary, so it should have been covered at $0 copay. The issue is currently being investigated."

"I switched to Sprintec after being on Minastrin for about three months - with Minastrin, I was a moody mess and spotted non-stop. Sprintec has been the answer to my birth control prayers! I'm about to start my third month on it and have not had any crazy symptoms. I'd say that my boobs do get sore during the first week of active pills, but it's not unbearable. My cramps on this pill are a dull ache, and my periods are very light. I've actually lost weight, but I don't think that's because of the pill (I've been exercising frequently). I took a pill a few years ago that made me gain weight even though I was working out, so this is a major improvement in my eyes!"

"I've been on Mononessa for approximately 17 months to treat PCOS and prevent pregnancy. PROS 1) Consistent periods 2) Little to no cramping 3) No spotting 4) No increase in acne CONS 1) Digestive problems. This has been the most troubling issue. Mononessa aggravated my constipation, and no amount of exercise or dietary restrictions can alleviate this issue. See below. 2) Weight gain. I lost about 8 - 10 lbs after the first 4 months of taking the pill, but I've been steadily gaining weight since then. In fact, I've surpassed the weight I was prior to starting Mononessa (> 10 lbs) despite a healthy diet and exercise. 3) Hair loss (from the scalp). I had to get another cover for my shower drain because it was so bad."

"While on this pill, I had a very positive experience. My cysts were gone, and the pain was under control. No nausea, my acne cleared up completely, and my breasts grew 1 whole cup size! (a bonus for me) My periods were lighter, and I had no cramping. Previous to this pill, I tried 4 other brands that made me feel completely sick and unable to do anything. I've been off birth control for about 3 years now, and I am probably going to get back on. My periods have been irregular with very bad cramping! Surely giving Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo another shot"

"I went to the ER because I was having horrible pains in my lower pelvic area. I’ve never engaged in sexual activity at the time, so STIs were out of the question. Also, I hadn’t had a period in about 7 months. They found a small ovarian cyst on my Fallopian tube. Nonetheless, my gynecologist prescribed me Tri-Sprintec, and I’ve had positive results from it overall. I’ve been taking it since 2014. My periods have become regulated, and I lost the weight that I gained during those months I didn’t have a period. The only negative thing I can say about it is that mood swings are horrible. I’ve always been a sensitive person, but sheesh, this made me even more sensitive. I acknowledge it, and I try to keep my mood under control."

"I was very scared to start Estarylla at first because of the reviews, but keep in mind that we’re all different. When I first started, my emotions were all over the place, I wanted to cry and then just felt angry. This then went away after the first week. I also got some headaches and was definitely nauseous throughout my first month. I missed two days and spotted for like a week, I don't know if that’s normal or not. Lastly, my breasts were sore as anything! But overall, I don’t think it was a terrible experience. I still have to see if it did anything to help with my ovarian cysts, even though I still have minor aches on my sides."

"My first pack, it's been fine for me. I usually experience a bit of nausea with birth control pills, and this one wasn't too bad at all! Breasts are pretty tender and seem to have grown a bit. I love that it's so cheap and does what it's intended to do. Before this, my insurance wouldn't cover birth control, so to me, this is a godsend."

"This is a terrible pill! I was on Mononessa for years, mainly to balance issues related to PCOS - depression, anxiety, irregular bleeding, excess hair. All was going okay - better when I ate right and exercised regularly. Then suddenly no pharmacies near me would stock Mononessa, and they switched me to Estarylla, claiming it was exactly the same pill. I spoke with my doctor and nurses, and they assured me it was the same. They are not the same. I've been on Estarylla for 3 months and have never in my life had panic attacks and depressive episodes like this. I've had spotting between periods, and my libido is dead. Makes you wonder who's making $$$ off this pill - because after reading other reviews it sure as hell isn't helping anyone."

"Been taking Tri-Sprintec for 3 weeks now. Week one was a breeze. For the other 2 weeks, here’s what I’ve experienced thus far: headaches, a little bit of nausea, sore boobs, and a bigger appetite, and I gained 5 pounds (I’m skinny, so I don’t mind it). I haven’t had any bad breakouts, no mood swings, nothing crazy. I don’t really enjoy the headaches and nausea, but I haven’t experienced anything CRAZY."

"I was diagnosed with PCOS very young. Been on many birth controls. Weight always fluctuating, period always out of whack... now acne. But now on Sprintec, weight is finally normal. Mental health is better. I feel fatigued and have cravings. My acne is awful. But that is it. So far my period has been NORMAL, and for someone that had bled for months on end, that is a blessing. So, for three months, this medication is alright."

"The first month of the pills went by fast, but had long-lasting side effects, such as very hot flashes, a lot of them, weight gain, and migraines that would last for days. Now I'm almost done with my second month's pack. My breasts have increased in size, I'm extremely irritable, and snap for no reason at all. I also cry a lot. My period started on day 1 of the 2nd pack. I am currently at the end of the pack (with 4 pills to spare), and my period is still here. It's been almost a month, I'm bleeding extremely heavy, too much blood loss, tired, and dizzy."

"This birth control has been a truly horrible experience for me. The only positive I can say is it cleared my skin after six months, but for the first three months, I had eczema on my face, which I’ve never had before. DO NOT TAKE THIS IF YOU HAVE DRY SKIN. I was on the lower dose version of this birth control but was having breakthrough, so I switched to this. I still am having breakthrough bleeding. I’ve gained about 10 lbs, and my breasts have enlarged so much it's painful. I have always had anxiety but never suffered from mood swings, and this birth control makes me feel like I’m suffering from bipolar. I am constantly angry, both my family and boyfriend have said I have been acting insane. I don’t feel like myself anymore, I feel like I completely lose my sanity the week before I receive my period. Every month I have had breakthrough bleeding, and twice I didn’t receive my period at all."

"I just started taking this Tri-Sprintec about a week ago, and my mood swings aren’t very good. But I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 20 years old and now am 24. I was on some other BC pills which I don’t even remember the name, and it wasn’t doing anything. I wouldn’t have my period for like 3 months straight, all the stubborn facial hair and everything was still the same. I hope this Tri-Sprintec helps me. I don’t even know what to do with myself, lol. I’ve seen so many good reviews about it and specifically asked my doctor for it, so I’m hoping by the time I am done with this first pack, I should see a difference."

"I have really bad periods (pain almost all month long directly in ovaries, back aches, and heavy bleeding during period, diarrhea before period, panic attacks, anxiety). I started taking the pill 3 weeks ago to see if it would help with my symptoms. I immediately noticed the nausea. It lasted all day at first and then moved to just in the evenings. When the nausea went away, I noticed my breasts being achy and my nipples felt very tingly, which was super weird. My sex drive has definitely increased since I started taking it. The positives I've experienced so far are that my panic attacks have really calmed down, my breasts have grown, I feel more mentally present, and my appetite has decreased."

"I've been on Ortho Tri-Cyclen for about 20 years. Works great. I called Janssen manufacturer to confirm it is no longer being manufactured. :-( I have been switched to Tri-Sprintec. This medication is AWFUL. I have filed a complaint with CVS Caremark stating this is NOT a generic to Ortho Tri-Cyclen. Per Janssen Manufacturing, there is NO generic for Ortho Tri-Cyclen. Tri-Sprintec has induced extensive bleeding, cramps, headaches, hot flashes, mood swings, and the list goes on. Do not recommend. CVS Caremark recommended Leena and Ortho Novum 777, they aren't even close to being generics as they have different progestins in them. There has to be a replacement. If one is found, can someone let me know? Thank you!"

"I took this stuff for 8 years. I have felt awful that long. I have thyroid problems, and so I thought the symptoms were due to my thyroid. I was depressed, lethargic, it was as dry as the Sahara down there, and I could hardly get out of bed no matter how much I slept. I stopped taking it 3 weeks ago. I feel human again for the first time in 8 years! Curse you, TriNessa! I give you a negative one million. Don’t make yourself suffer as long as I did. Stop taking this poison!"

"Sprintec was my worst experience with birth control. I experienced: migraines/headaches, dizziness, upset stomach, horrible mood swings/depression, difficulty sleeping, hair patches missing/alopecia. This was truly a nightmare, I do not recommend it at all. I was shocked that birth control could cause all of these problems. I usually take Ortho-Cyclen, which is supposedly another generic, and have no side effects with that medication, but it has been discontinued. I am searching for a better match. If you experience any side effects, please stop taking it immediately. I only took it for one month and experienced all of these issues."

"This medication is HORRIBLE! I was originally on Yaz, then switched to MonoNessa. However, MonoNessa is very difficult to find, and Sprintec was offered by my pharmacy, so I reluctantly agreed. What a HORRIBLE experience! I took it for 3 days, and my mood swings were unbearable! I experienced really negative thoughts, which I NEVER experience. I wanted to cry all the time, too. I promptly stopped it and switched back to Yaz, but I'm waiting for a progestin-only pill since I react badly to estrogen. I do not recommend Sprintec at all."

"I had two large ovarian cysts that were extremely painful and put me in the ER. My Dr. prescribed me Mononessa, and I just finished my first pack. I had an ultrasound today, and one cyst was completely gone, and the other is much smaller. After only 3 weeks on this pill, I haven't experienced the pain from my cysts anymore. The only thing is that for the first week on the pill, I was extremely nauseous. It also seems that as of right now, my acne is almost completely gone."
