"I started taking Ortho almost two decades ago because of my heavy and prolonged bleeding. I have never had any problems, noticeable side effects, or complications. I only had one period per month, and it didn't last more than 7 days. To my surprise, my coverage made me switch to the 'new' generic Tri-Lo-Sprintec, and the pharmacy assured me it is 'exactly the same.' It is not. I have never felt so depressed for no reason, anxious, angry, exhausted, disconnected... I don't feel like myself and feel like a crazy person. I'm having trouble focusing. I also have a weird rash on my chest and experienced sudden weight gain. I hate this pill, and it is definitely NOT the same as Ortho. Don't make the same mistake I did!"

"The worst BC ever. I have just used it for 3 days, and I have headaches, and I threw up every single day. Do nothing other than sleeping like a log. This medicine was prescribed to control the abnormal bleeding I had, and guess what? I have the bleeding + these extra bonuses. Hate this medicine to death. I am a person with no allergies to anything I know of now. My body is pretty strong, while other people around fall sick, I remain totally unaffected. I will rate this medicine a negative, not even a zero."

"My period went from March 11 to March 15. Started bleeding again on March 19. It's March 30, and I'm still bleeding. It's not as heavy as my normal period, but it's enough for it to be a nuisance now. I started taking it mid-January and loved it. Now I hate it."

"I've been taking Sprintec for years. When I lost my health insurance, it was cheap, and it was a mono-phase pill that I could take continuously, and it's been the best pill I've tried for cramps and lighter, shorter periods. I use it to control my polycystic ovarian syndrome (it's a low-androgen pill that helps control my PCOS-raised testosterone levels). If it impacts T levels too far, it can lower the sex drive too much for some people. For me, it removed the worst aspects of having naturally high T levels and put me into the 'normal' range, though, including 'balancing' my sex drive and clearing up my acne. I also use this pill continuously (4 periods/year) to minimize pre-menstrual and menstrual migraines - 'yay,' I get both types. No period = no hormonal migraines."

"I’ve taken this birth control for about 3 years. Up until recently, it’s been great, I had practically zero side effects besides some mood changes, which only lasted the first couple of months. It decreased my PMS symptoms, and I never experienced spotting, weight gain, acne, etc. However, for the past 3 months, I have been spotting every single day nonstop, despite taking my pill religiously at the same time every morning and never missing a pill for three whole years. Nothing has changed in my life or daily routine that would explain the spotting. I was hoping that this would blow over since this birth control has (overall) worked so well with my body, but unfortunately, I’ve decided to switch birth controls as the spotting has become unbearable and is a hindrance in my everyday life and sex life."

"I'm 45 and have been on this pill for two months. I'm in perimenopause, and my periods have been extremely heavy and lasting more than two weeks. My PMS has also become much worse, with severe cramping and mood swings. I went on this pill to lighten and hopefully stop my periods. It hasn't done that. I'm on week two of a heavy, painful period. My cramping is still severe. Since starting this pill, I'm nauseous all the time. My anxiety is through the roof, and I'm extremely angry all the time. It has not helped me at all. It has made things worse. I have a check-up with my doctor next month, and I'm going to change pills."

"I am on my second week of Sprintec. I started taking these because I already have the Paragard IUD, and it was giving me heavy periods, cramping before, during, and after periods, and I also had very thick, stringy discharge. My doctor put me on Sprintec temporarily because the extra boost of hormones should help my condition. So far, the side effects have been minor. I noticed it is starting to help with my acne, and my discharge has thinned, but it also has an odor. Almost immediately after taking a pill, I get dry mouth and start to get hungry. Eating small meals or skipping meals is not an option after taking it. If I don't eat a decent-sized meal to calm my hunger, I get weak with nausea. I also get somewhat jittery."

"This has been my first month taking this birth control pill, and the reason I decided to take it was to help regulate my period. Well, now I have been bleeding longer than usual. I have really, really bad cramps. I cry for no reason, I get mad at my husband and my daughter for no reason, and I'm constantly depressed. I can't take it anymore."

"I have had irregular periods, but recently in May, I had a period for about 3 weeks, and I was tired of it. So I went to the doctor and was told Tri-Sprintec would help. I started taking it at the beginning of June and have been on it for almost a month now. With no luck, I’m still bleeding constantly. I continued the pill to see if the bleeding would eventually stop, but unfortunately, it hasn’t. During the first week, I received loss of appetite, extreme anxiety, night sweats, depression, and nausea, and the side effects still occur. I’m going to finish the pack because hopefully, I’ll receive some luck, but I do not plan to continue this pill after this first pack."

"I'm currently on this pill, and it is making me lightheaded, extremely nauseous, fatigued, shaky, sensitive to light and sound, and having trouble breathing, can't eat or drink anything without being completely sick, heart pounding, and diarrhea. Not fun at all."

"STAY AWAY FROM THIS ONE. I was originally using Seasonique for my prolonged and heavy periods, but my insurance company did not cover it anymore, so I was switched to TriNessa. I started TriNessa on October 12th, 2017, and it is now January 2nd, 2018, and I am STILL bleeding. I wouldn’t recommend."

"Was having abnormal bleeding for a month, went to the emergency room, was prescribed Provera for 10 days, the day after the period and blood clots came back. Went to the gyno, took an ultrasound, no polyps, no fibroids, nothing, but was told the lining of the uterus is thin. Was given this medicine to take 3 a day for the first 3 days, then 2 a day for the next 2, then 1 a day. The bleeding has stopped for now and I'm okay on day 4. Everybody reacts differently. I haven't had any mood swings or any other side effects, so I'm thankful for this birth control."

"Just started it a month ago, so not in my system long, but I have really sore breasts and enlargement. I have had breakthrough spotting the entire time, and the fourth week period came, but lighter than usual. Loss of appetite, extreme. I’m never hungry. It’s kind of scary how much I don’t eat, and really bloated in the afternoon or night."

"So I started taking these pills 2 weeks ago. I took it on a Tuesday, a week before my original period would come. I noticed I was getting horrible headaches, but I brushed it off because my period had come June 23rd, so I thought that was the reason for the headaches. But today is June 30th, and I’m still bleeding heavily and cramping like crazy. My period was normal before taking these pills, it would last 4 days and cramps the first 2 days, but that’s it. I think these pills cause those horrible headaches and this prolonged bleeding. I’m seriously soaking through my pads still after 8 full days. I honestly believe it’s the pills, which I’m not gonna take anymore. I would not take this medication, try another birth control brand."

"Like many readers, I too came on to this site before taking my first pill. My story is pretty simple. I've always had very irregular and painful, long-lasting periods. The last birth control pill I was on was Loestrin 24, and I hated it. I was also on the patch for a year and never had any issues. In fact, I liked it. But my mother started hearing the negative news behind the dose of hormones in it, and so I got off of it. I stayed off of them for another year or so and started having the same issues again, plus acne. Puerto Rico is really humid. So after a week on Tri-Sprintec, I love it. I take it at night, 8:30 pm, and sleep like a baby. No complaints whatsoever. I've lost weight too. Weird. Stay active, exercise, drink plenty of water. It's worked for me."

"I started taking these after being hospitalized and given blood transfusions and iron. They recommended this and said it would help me. The first two weeks, it did help a little. The third week is when everything started to change. I realized I had no energy to get out of bed. Simple things like brushing my teeth or taking a shower felt like the hardest things to do. I didn't want anyone to talk to me. I lost interest in my favorite TV shows and other things I always used to enjoy. My hair started falling out, and I was always nauseous. I wouldn't eat ANYTHING! I started having heart palpitations, and walking from one room to the next made me fatigued and dizzy. My body began to shut down. I do not recommend!!!"

"So I started Sprintec the second day of my period (the first day was mainly just spotting, and the second day was a Sunday). Anyways, I’ve only been taking it about 12 days now, and I’m exhausted. All the time. I mean I’m usually constantly tired, but I need a nap after going up the stairs. I also have been having brown bleeding for a week after my period. So it’s like I’ve been on my period two weeks. I usually have good skin, and now my face is starting to break out all over. My boobs are sore, but they're enhancing, so I’m taking that as a “beauty is pain.” Lol. I stay bloated a lot. I'm not too sure how to feel about it, honestly."

"I was prescribed Tri-Lo-Sprintec to help with my irregular periods. When I first took them, they seemed to be working. A few days later, I started experiencing abdominal cramps, was spotting in between, and pelvic pain. I took this birth control for two weeks when my stomach pain became severe, along with my pelvic pain, and I had to be rushed to the hospital. The hospital made sure I didn't have any cysts on my ovaries or that my stomach pain wasn't related to my appendix. Luckily, my reproductive organs are in good health, and the ER physician suggested I get off Tri-Lo-Sprintec and try something different. I know everyone's body is different when it comes to taking birth control, but I won't ever take this brand of birth control again."

"1.5 months in, I started spotting. I am taking this BC continuously, according to my doctor's instructions, and skipping the placebo pills to not have a period. I've been spotting for a month now. I've tried many birth control pills and have never had this happen. There had been times where I had accidentally missed a day or two and started spotting on my old birth control, but after a couple of days catching up on my pills, my body would regulate itself back out and the spotting would stop. This spotting isn't stopping and I haven't missed any pills. As said before, I've taken many different kinds of BC pills and had never had this problem."

"I've been on the pill for over two weeks. This is my first time on birth control, and I'm taking it mainly to help regulate my periods so I get one every month, and also to help with cramping and heavy flow. So far, all I've gotten is cramps, dizziness, light-headedness, acne, spotting that started off light and now is coming off a lot heavier, weight gain, huge appetite, problems sleeping, and is majorly affecting my mental health."

"INTENSE MOOD SWINGS on Estarylla. That takes a few months to level out. I had to be put back on antidepressants, but different ones that wouldn't interact with the drug. I've also been bleeding for over a month now, and I've been on the Estarylla pill for about 5 months. My face is clear, though. Not pregnant, so I guess it's doing its job??"

"I started taking this pill for severe menstrual cramps (I've had to take a lot of ibuprofen daily to manage the pain) and to hopefully decrease the amount of clots I was passing (sorry...TMI...I know!) throughout my period, which were very large, numerous, and painful. I am very pleased with the results! After only one month, the clotting and PMS symptoms have significantly decreased, the cramps are manageable, and I was able to function like a 'normal' person at work on my cycle. I was apprehensive about Estarylla birth control because of all the bad reviews, but it has been a lifesaver for me! Sticking with this pill forever and ever! Amen!"

"I have been taking this for about 5 months and was previously on Trinessa for about 2 years with no complaints. I have started noticing that I am very moody and irritable almost daily and have zero motivation to do anything like going to the gym, going out with friends, or anything. I have also noticed that about a week or 2 before my period, I binge eat anything and everything as if I haven’t eaten in days. And then to top it off, I have zero sex drive now. I just do not have any interest in having sex, and it’s just not something I enjoy anymore. I had the best sex life with my boyfriend, and it’s just gone now. I’m on my last pills now and will not be taking them anymore and will see if anything changes."

"Beware of this medication! I have never had so much bleeding in my life. I had to go to the ER because of it. I developed many blood clots and have never been so scared. I recommend another brand of birth control. Any birth control that has a history of giving women blood clots, don't take it. Do your research, because you can get blood clots in other places too. I'm getting off it today."

"Well, to start off, I'm 16 years old, and I have very strange/heavy periods, so this birth control pill was prescribed to me by my doctor. So far, I'm down to my last 4 pills of the first month, and I don't have any negative effects from it. My acne before this pill was a bit severe, now it's starting to clear up, a lot actually. I haven't had my period yet, but I'm assured it's on its way. I'm not moody, my cup size went from a C to a D, and I'm almost sure I've actually lost weight! Also, my appetite isn't as strong as it used to be, which is strange. I don't eat exactly healthy, but I do consume food in smaller portions, and I work out a couple of times a week. I'm just very pleased with it right now. Girls, you should definitely try it."
