"I have been taking Sprintec for a couple of months now, and for about a couple of weeks of about 3 or 4 a day, I had severe cramps and had to be put on 500 mg painkillers. It has since subsided somewhat, but I now have the biggest clots that I have ever seen. I am constantly spotting, even though it is supposed to stop or regulate my period. I was placed on it by a couple of different doctors because I have been having excessive bleeding nonstop. I was on another birth control pill - I forgot the name - which was way better at stopping my period and getting me back on a monthly cycle. With Sprintec, my period is constant, and I spot daily. My sex life is nonexistent as a result."

"First month went well. Second month I started bleeding, spotting really the second week of active pills. I have now been bleeding for the last month, and I'm tired. I've had all the symptoms of a period: bloated, headache, tired, back pain, restless at night. I didn't have any of these problems when I was not on birth control. I really hate how this pill has made me feel, as well as the all-month bleeding."

"I have the same problem. Have been taking it 'continuously' for several months to treat heavy, irregular periods. Now, I have spotting/bleeding every day (at least 3/4 of the month). Also, like the other person who posted, I have large clots."

"Could not say enough bad things about this medicine!!! Abnormal bleeding, oily skin, mood swings, headaches, weight gain, racing heart, shortness of breath, cramping, night sweats, and nausea just from taking this pill for less than a month. Do not understand why anyone is even getting prescribed this pill, especially after reading all the reviews I’ve read on it. Absolutely ridiculous!!"

"I started taking Tri-Lo-Marzia a month ago. I skipped the placebo pills and went straight into my next pack starting with the top row. I began bleeding at the end of the first week, which has turned into a period and now is very light spotting (only with penetration, smh). My question is, does this mean the bleeding will stop soon? It’s been 8 days, and my period is usually only 6. Should I keep taking them? Will I keep bleeding? Any advice is appreciated!"

"I have been on Sprintec for over a year. All has been well, and it has clearly worked for the purpose of preventing pregnancy. The one mistake I made was slipping my placebo pills and going on to the next pack instead, to avoid my period. The period came two weeks later during my regular pills, and since then I have been spotting this dark brown gooey stuff. It sucks, but other than that I haven't had any problems with it."

"Before Mononessa, I tried four different birth controls (can't remember the names), but all of them gave me bleeding constantly, it was horrible. Finally, I tried Mononessa. It's helped so much, my periods are much lighter, no more acne, and I didn't experience any weight gain like the other reviews I have read. Also, it is a lot cheaper. This pill is the one I've been needing."

"This is the best birth control I've been on. No weight gain at all. And it doesn't make it hard to lose weight. My boobs have gotten bigger. My skin is so clear I get compliments on it (I used to have bad acne). And most importantly, no babies. I have sex with my SO without condoms, so I know it works. I know exactly when my period will come every month. That's a relief because I used to get my period anywhere from every 2 to 9 months apart. Only side effects are occasional nausea on the first week of each pack. And random headaches, but that's not often."

"I'm 16, almost 17, and I went on this because I had really heavy periods with bad cramps and would pass out regularly. I've been on this for a little over two weeks, and my period hasn't stopped. It was heavy for the first four days, and then it became really light. For the last week, it's almost like spotting, which has never happened to me before. My breasts hurt really badly. I'm not sure if I've gained or lost weight because I started dieting right before I went on the pill. So far, I hate the pill, but it's only been a month. I'm hoping the next months will be better than this one."

"I've been on this going on 3 months. I've been doing the continuous method of no placebo pills in order to skip periods. The first week, the nausea was terrible, but luckily, it didn't last past that. Then towards the end of the first month, I started getting cramps pretty bad, but they were bearable with Tylenol. In the second month, I bled for a long time, maybe 2 weeks. I was so irritated I almost stopped taking them! That was my main goal-to skip periods-and here's this weird extra long one, but the doctor said it's normal and to give it a few more cycles to regulate and get rid of the old uterine lining, so I stuck it out, and now everything's fine. Makes sense that there would be a transition phase, so some might just need to give your body time to adjust during those first few months! And, unrelated to bleeding, but my boobs got firmer and noticeably fuller on this pill, with some soreness there."

"It's effective in the sense that it has done its job well, it prevented pregnancy, but I absolutely hate it. I switched over from Tricyclen due to its cost, but honestly, I'm planning on switching back. Severe cramps, headaches, and mood swings galore. The worst part of it all? I have been in my period for THREE WEEKS. It's ridiculous, I've never had issues with any other birth control. My regular period usually lasted 4 days maximum, compare that to constant bleeding for almost a month now. No thanks. Do not recommend this for anyone."

"So my gyno put me on this birth control pill for my irregular periods. I’m about to start month 3, and I’m impressed! At first, I was VERY scared to try the pill because of the negative reviews, but I gave it a shot and monitored my lifestyle closely. My first 3 weeks on the pill weren’t terrible, but I did experience a couple of negative but minor side effects. I had a couple of nights where I felt nauseous after taking the pill, and on a few occasions a headache, but nothing I couldn’t handle. I noticed I had some weight gain in my waistline, so I watched my food intake and upped my workouts slightly, and that took care of it. I’ve stayed at 133 lbs. I’m at month 3, and everything is totally normal! No depression, no insomnia, and no weight gain (thank goodness), and it’s cleared up my face! I personally love this pill, but I 100% agree that every woman may have different reactions. Also, it’s SO affordable, and that’s a big plus because I don’t have insurance."

"I began taking this b/c 2 years ago because I was having a 10-day-long period every other week. The pill worked perfectly for regulating my hormones so that I would have a normal (4-5 day long) period once a month. I didn't have headaches, mood swings, weight gain, or any odd side effects. The only downside is my insurance began charging $50 a month for it, so I had to stop using it and now have to switch. And now that I have stopped taking it, my acne on my face, back, and chest has returned."

"I’ve been on Sprintec ever since I was 16. I’m 20 now. The whole purpose of birth control was to help with my horrible cramps, it’s helped but causes way too much breakthrough bleeding. I’m on my period a week early, and this just keeps happening! I’m at the point where I’m just going to stop it altogether."

"I began taking this for my period, which was really heavy and came with terrible cramps. While I was on it, I experienced terrible cramps. I have genetically good skin, but this medication gave me the worst acne of my life. It was embarrassing, not to mention painful. It also made me incredibly depressed, and I’d find myself canceling plans with some of my favorite people to stay home and cry. I have decided to go off of it, and I am very excited to get back to normal. Based on other reviews I have read, many women have gone through similar experiences to mine."

"I've been on Sprintec for over a year now. And just recently skipped a placebo week because I was going on vacation. Well, my plans got canceled because of a hurricane. (This is the first time I've skipped a placebo week since I've been on it.) I was spotting the week after I skipped, and I've recently started bleeding heavier. I haven't had any problems with Sprintec since I've been on it. It was great until I skipped. It helped my acne a lot, it regulated my periods, which I started the pill for irregular bleeding (I bled for a month and ended up going to the ER for it)."

"Last year or so, I was having constant spotting, and so I went to the Dr. and was put on different birth control pills, none of which helped with the spotting until this one. I've had no spotting whatsoever on this one, and I've been on it for 9 months or so, and my periods only last about 3-4 days, which is nice. I've also stopped getting bad cramps, which were horrendous prior to birth control. My acne has cleared up, except for the occasional spot, but only once a month or so. I have not experienced any weight gain either, however, I do notice some slight mood changes, but it's nothing that is uncontrollable. I would recommend."

"I was originally on Trisprintec and got switched to Trinessa, and ever since have had nothing but problems. I get a period every two weeks, I vomit all the time and have gained a lot of weight. I've been on this pill for 7 months now, so my body should be used to it by now. Very unhappy."

"I'm 21 and got on Tri-Sprintec due to not having a period and PCOS. First day taking it, just felt mild nausea. Second day, I had body aches (as if I had a cold), weakness, bad nausea (but never threw up), headaches, and was not myself. Called to see if I could try a different birth control. The nurse just told me to stop taking it."

"I was a little excited to say the least but nervous since I haven’t been on any medications since my tubal ligation 6 years prior. Within the first few weeks, I was already bleeding. I bled for 9 weeks straight. It was miserable, and then if to make things worse, I wanted to take out everyone around me for about 5 weeks. I had extreme anger issues, depression, my skin was breaking out. I talked to my doctor many times and was told to give it a little time to see how I adjusted. After 6 months, I decided I couldn’t take it anymore. I would have times that were okay, but I often felt like rubbish on this pill. The last straw was when I started a new packet of pills. I was fine the first week, started bleeding mid-2nd week, and by the third week, I was passing large blood clots for days, and then I got my period the 4th week. This pill isn’t for me, and now I’m starting something new. Hoping for better results!!"

"I was on this birth control for just one month. When I reached the final week of pills, my period was so heavy that I went through a super tampon almost every 2 hours. Around the third day of this, I experienced abdominal pain so awful that I couldn't sleep. I ended up going to the hospital because I was passing large clots and I couldn't stand up without feeling extremely dizzy. This was the first birth control I ever tried, and needless to say, it was not a pleasant experience."

"I was put on this Estarylla birth control pill after a long 2-month period and ovarian cyst. It stopped my period almost immediately! I’ve been on Estarylla for three months now, and the worst side effect I’ve experienced is weight gain. My period is also more heavy and painful than usual, but honestly, I will take that over two months of non-stop bleeding."

"I’ve only been on this birth control for 3 months. I’m constantly nauseated, my boobs are so sore, my mood swings are crazy, acne is awful (I’ve always had super clear skin). My period stopped April 26th, I had been bleeding for 10 days straight. Today is May 7th, and it’s back again... something is just not right with this pill! I do not recommend it to anyone."

"I have been taking Ortho Tri-Cyclen for about 6 years -- then my insurance switched me to Tri-Spintec. Then a couple of months after that, I was switched to Tri-Previfem by my insurance. My period last month was so light, I was thinking 'yay!'... but I'm halfway through my pack this month and have started my period again. I'm going to guess it will continue into next week when I'm scheduled to have my period. I don't like this at all. Part of the reason I love birth control is I can be in control of my period and schedule things around its arrival (i.e., my wedding coming up). After reading these reviews, I'm going to talk to my pharmacist about going back to Ortho Tri-Cyclen. Thanks for the reviews, ladies."
