"This birth control is horrible. I have been on multiple pills since I was 14 for abnormal and painful bleeding. I've been on sprintec, Kariva, and a few generics for both of those, as well as Azurette. I switched from Azurette to this pill because I thought it was increasing my feelings of depression and anxiety. This pill is making me so miserable; I cry every single day, my hair falls out when I run my fingers through it, my skin is really oily and I'm getting acne which I've never had in my life. This is horrible. Maybe it's just the amount of estrogen in these pills and my body just is not having it, I don't know, but I hate this pill and I refuse to keep taking it."

"I was on Lo Loestrin FE 1/10 but unfortunately lost my job/health insurance so I was stuck with generic Microgestin 1.5/30 in the mean time. I loved Lo Lo and barely experienced any side effects on that so I was heartbroken to have to switch. Had pretty much every symptom in the book within the first month of Microgestin... acne flared up, EXTREMELY bloaty and gassy- felt like it took forever for food to digest, also felt like I had an extra layer of fat/water retention in my abdomen area, and omg the mood swings!! Awful... I was beyond irritable and wanted to cry all the time. Had really bad cramping the first couple weeks too... like cramping comparable to PMS. This is a pretty big jump in hormone dosage compared to what I’m used to and I don’t think I’ll be taking another month of this, it’s not worth it in my opinion, even short term. I’ll probably just wait until I have insurance again to go back on Lo Lo."

"Not worth it for me with the side effects. Constant headaches, mood swings and depression, heavy bleeding and clots from half dollar to golfball in size, accompanied by painful cramps. Made me feel wiped out and killed my sex drive. My doctor put me on a lower dose birth control pill but I’ve still had constant bleeding and clots for the past two weeks."

"Microgestin FE 1.5/30 is the first BC pill I have ever taken, and I've only been taking it for a month, but I could not be happier. I was worried to start taking birth control because of all the horror stories I've heard and all the possible side effects, but this one definitely works for me. I haven't experienced any side effects at all. No breakthrough bleeding, morning sickness or noticeable weight gain."

"I've been taking Microgestin for roughly the last 4 years and love it. However, pharmacies struggled to stock it and often gave me generic brands which gave me the worst side effects. I've gotten to the point where I love my pill but I can't rely on my pharmacy to give me the correct brand because I've switched pharmacy 5 times over the last few years and even had my doctor write my prescription for no substitutions. Therefore I'm considering switching to the implant but hate the idea of having horrible side effects and would rather stick with Microgestin. On Microgestin I still have my period regularly, about 4-5 days it's light to medium flow and usually only have bad cramps the morning before my period starts and it's nothing a heating pad and ibuprofen can't handle. I feel like I have acne but I consider it to be more related to 2nd puberty we ladies get in our 20s than related to my pill. I haven't gained weight due to the pill and feel like my mood is very controlled."

"I was switched to microgestin after having break through bleeding with tri-sprintec (I had been on it for years prior). I noticed way less bloating! Which was great! I also was more "regular" if you know what I mean. I did feel a little bit moody. I ended up switching to another pill because this one caused my hair to thin out around my hairline. I know that sounds weird but it was pretty noticeable with my hair in a pony tail. I also noticed my scalp hurt a lot and I had slight, but manageable, hormonal pimples on my chin. I think that would have cleared up if I stayed on it longer."

"I've been taking Microgestin Fe 1.5/30 for almost 6 months now for the sole purpose of birth control. While it has never failed me in regards to contraception, it has given me crazy mood swings, sharp cramps, and intense sudden headaches that sometimes become migraines. I'm talking migraines so bad that I have to close my eyes and crawl to get anywhere I need to go, if I can even move at all. It has been an emotional and painful 6 month trial, and I'm done with this contraceptive."

"This birth control protected me from pregnancy every time ! Sometimes I would take it a few hours later as well and it would still work. There is a lot of estrogen in it so it caused me to get headaches. Super light, predicted period every month. No cramps. No weight gain other then your typical bloating."

"I like this birth control I don’t have the mental side effects like anxiety I get with others. I’ve been taking it for a long time though and they recently changed their packaging to this thick white plastic thing that’s impossible to open and overall terrible. Please bring back the old normal thin packaging! What were you thinking?"

"Started breakthrough bleeding out of nowhere with this medication. Within three days of starting it, still bleeding heavily almost two weeks later. Not happy with this at all. My last pill was way better."

"I’ve been on this pill for a month now after getting off on depo. I finally feel like me again and have control of my life. It make me feel amazing and I never feel sick from it. When I was on depo I was living a nightmare and now I’m my happy and careful self again. I haven’t had any weight gain nor breakthrough bleeding. I’ll give another update after 3 months."

"I am currently on this pill and have been for the past 8 months. I'm not a huge fan, but its done its job thus far so I can't complain too much. If you get migraine headaches w/ aura, I wouldn't recommend this pill. I usually get 2 headaches a month now when before starting birth control, I could go just about 3-4 months without a migraine. I also have some slight nausea, dizziness, breast tenderness and swelling, and some fatigue (usually within the first week of starting back up on the pill). These symptoms have happened continuously throughout the 8 months on this pill and have not gotten any better (although doctors suggest your body will get used to the hormones within 3 months). These symptoms are not usually severe though."

"When I first started this pill it was due to spotting off of my period and hormonal changes. I was switched to a higher dose of Microgestion after taking the lower dose for a year or two. On the lower dose, my skin was the clearest it has ever been after a few months but I started getting bad migraines and terrible hot flashes on my period and so my doctor switched me to this form to see if it would help. I've been on this higher dose for probably almost 2 years now and it has gotten so bad, I've gotten the worst headaches I've ever gotten, I started getting acne on my jaw and neck where I never got it so it is solely hormone-related. I wouldn't recommend taking this pill for people starting out on their first birth control. Overall I think it is a really high dose and it might've helped with my spotting off of my period but it made everything else worse like my headaches and acne. Yet again birth control affects every person differently this is just my experience."

"I was on Microgestin Fe 1/20 for three months prior to this, I switched because I was getting my period every two weeks. So I switched and I'm so glad I did. Period is completely regulated out again like it was before I started birth control. No weight gain (actually weight loss), no mood swings, no change in libido. Worst parts of this were feeling nauseous for the first three days I was on it (nausea went away after), one pimple, and cramps the first day of my period. Overall, the pros outweigh the cons by miles, so I would recommend this to anyone!"

"I was on Microgestion Fe 1/20 for around 10 months due to migraines. I was constantly having breakthrough bleeding, mood swings, horrible anxiety which I had never had before, and my acne had come back. I switched to Glidess Fe 1.5/30 because it was free through my insurance and all of my symptoms cleared up. After going back to school, where I do not have my normal pharmacy, I got put on Microgestion Fe 1.5/30 because they do not carry Glidess. My doctor did not clear this, but the pharmacist told me that I should have no problems. WRONG! My anxiety came back full swing and that is not helpful being a college nursing student. I am constantly tired and I am eating like crazy. I am switching back to my old medication asap."

"I originally started birth control around the age of 17-18. I had very heavy periods through high school and would miss a day of school every month due to the awful cramps/diarrhea I would get. I was put on a higher hormone pill that helped my periods lighten up but made me gain 10 pounds or so.. long story short I got switched onto Microgestin and was happy on it for 5-6 years. I didn't have any problems with acne, weight gain or heavy periods. I actually would only get a very light (just spotting pretty much) period once every 3 months or so which my doctor said was normal with this birth control. I had no issues with pregnancy on the pill either and my boy friend and I do not use protection since I'm on the pill. I recommend it!"

"I’m switching to Azurette not sure it will help. I’ve been depressed, weight gain and have the worst mood swings. I can’t control my mood. I cry about everything and something so little can set me off. I don’t feel like myself anymore. I hope this works because if not I might just stop."

"I started this birth control because I wanted something low hormone. I was on it a few years ago then stopped, and when I started again a year later my doc put me on the same the one. This time it has cause a lot of problems for me though! I gained about 8 pounds in the first month, all in my midsection (boobs and stomach!). After working out and eating better I have lost most of it, but because of the fluctuation my boobs have started to sag and I'm only 24! The biggest issue is that is has CAUSED acne in places I've never had it before, most noticeably my neck. Not just my jawline or near my face, big cystic pimples on my neck and throat which are impossible to cover up!! I am switching to Yaz now and am hoping it will fix my skin."

"I got put on this bcp after I had surgery to remove ovarian cysts on both ovaries. Bcp is supposed to stop cysts from coming back. I didn't notice any weight gain while I was on this pill, however I worked out 3-4 times a week to avoid possible weight gain. I have back acne and occasional pimples on my face I didn't notice it did anything to make it better or worsen it. I have some hair growth on my chin :'( which this didn't do anything to help or worsen my condition. Did not notice many side effects overall while on the pill. Once I stopped taking it I noticed heavier periods, cramps (didn't have them before bcp), pain on my ovaries and headaches. Wasn't able to go back to see if it helped my cysts because I lost insurance coverage."

"Microgestin Fe 1.5/30 Saved my skin! I never had problematic skin, but I changed my birth control a few months back to blisovi fe 1.5/30 and it caused me to have enlarged, swollen cystic pimples. I was hopeless, nothing was working. I finally decided to change birth controls again, realizing my skin problems arose after going on blisovi. My skin is now finally clearing up after going on this birth control. I haven’t had any bad side effects!"

"I had slight decrease in Libido. Nice light periods. Cleared up my acne slightly - I have cystic acne. No noticeable weight gain. I do wear contacts, no trouble with those. Overall I was happy with it. Was on since I was 15/16 years old for about nine years straight. Switching to Yaz to see if that helps better with my acne."

"I’ve been on this pill for about 5 months now. I started taking it to control my acne and of course prevent pregnancy! I didn’t experience any major side effects (nausea, headaches, weight gain, etc) but my boyfriend and I have both noticed that I’ve been extremely moody since I started and I have been more emotional. For the acne, I see no difference at all. It hasn’t made it worse but it also hasn’t gotten better. It has helped my cramps and my period is so light now too! On the first week of the month, I’m usually ALWAYS hungry but now I've learned to control it and just eat how I normally do and drink more water to ease my hunger. I’ve read a lot of reviews that women’s sex drives have decreased on this pill, but I think mine has definitely increased! I’m switching to a new pill because I’ve been struggling with acne for years now and this wasn’t doing the job. I love this pill, just not as satisfied as I wish I could have been (acne wise)."

"This has been pretty great. I no longer have heavy periods and it is now much shorter. At first I was worried I was pregnant but the same thing kept happening each month. I do still feel a little moody and depressed but I couldn't tell you if it's the same as usual or not. It feels manageable and my mood swings during my period and pain levels are now are much better. I got a little bit of acne but hey I haven't gotten pregnant and the acne lessened by the third pack. That's all I have to say."

"While on this b/c pill, my "periods" were never during the week off allowing for withdrawal bleeding. I would spot usually opaque brown mess while I was taking the daily pill. Rarely ever would I see red period blood. I was changed to this higher dosage to prevent aforesaid "breakthrough bleeding" that I experienced more frequent with the loestrin 1/20 fe. I enjoyed a lower dose of estrogen compared to other pills I've used, such as ortho cyclen and tricyclen. This lower dose helped with my mood and outlook on life. I'm planning on talking to my Gyn about IUD possibilities since they have a much lower dose of hormones, exclude estrogen completely, and localize solely in the uterus, not the entire blood stream. In conclusion, one of the best daily b/c pills I've used. If that's what you're looking for, give this a try!"

"I have been taking this pill for many years and never had any problems - no headaches, no weight changes, good mood. I stopped taking it for pregnancy and breastfeeding and when I came back to it I started having very heavy periods and missing just one pill caused me to have my period - even with taking pills after the missed one. If I wrote it before my pregnancy I would have given it a 10"
