"So, I've been on this birth control for about 2 months, and so far I haven't had many problems with it. I was on Gildess until it got 'recalled,' and I LOVED it. So until then, I have been on 4 different birth controls, and I was on the Junel 1/20 for 3 months, and that made me gain weight. I was depressed and mean and had no sex drive. So now I have tried this one, and it is going really well. I like that I don't take the pills for a week. My moods are normal, I'm losing weight easily, I'm sexually active. But the only thing that sucks is I have back acne, and I've never had that before. They're huge zits and super painful, so I would like tips on how to calm those down! But other than that, it's a pretty good birth control so far!"

"Don't take this for the prevention of ovarian cancer unless you want to end up in the ER with a heart rate of 190, not knowing why and being told it's a 'panic attack' from your MMJ you have used for longer than this pill. I was on Junel for 2 years. Still am due to fear and not upsetting my oncologist. I looked like I was seizing, my arms went numb and cold, I couldn't breathe, and my hearing and vision were going out randomly (paroxysmally) and in intervals. No one gave me a brain MRI, so I don't know if I've had a stroke, but I never had HBP in my life until I went on this pill. Both migraines and sudden cardiac death run in my family. Even brain cysts, and no one cautioned me of the risks. They (gyn-oncology) say it's too much of a risk anyway to stop it due to hemorrhage and stroke risk, and no one in cardiac critical care would even advise me to start an Aspirin regimen or come off of it. I was given Aspirin, Nitro spray, adenosine, and propranolol and diltiazem, 100+bpm. Angina."

"I switched to this Junel Fe 1.5/30 birth control after my last one was discontinued, and it is awful. I constantly am having stomach cramping and vaginal dryness. I will not be taking any of it until I get a different birth control."

"I switched to this birth control after being on another pill for five years. I've been on this pill for three months. I've gained noticeable weight, solely because I feel like I can't stop eating. Even more so, I'm exhausted all the time, my energy is low. I'm a very active person and it's becoming increasingly difficult to keep up with the workouts. This is NOT me. I've also had headaches (and migraines) almost every day. These headaches are debilitating. I've had to call out of work because my head was pounding and I was overwhelmed with nausea. I'm currently working with my OB to find an alternative. I'm sure this pill would be great for someone, but it's not the one for me."

"I got on this almost a year ago. After reading the reviews, I was, by God, terrified, but I had a pretty good experience on it. I did gain a little bit of weight (5 lbs. maybe), but as for mood swings and acne, I did not experience much (other than the occasional). After a year or so, I have started seeing breakthrough bleeding again (the main reason why I have to switch again), but I would definitely give this pill a chance!"

"I was prescribed this due to my PCOS diagnosis. I'm 29 and have taken birth control only once in my life, and that was the IUD. The first month went well... no side effects. I kept taking each pack back to back since August 2022 until the end of November. Which is the mistake I just recently found out as you need to take a week of NO PILLS to have your period. Which makes sense since I was spotting all of October until the end of November. What made me stop taking the pill was when I was driving on Black Friday, I zoned out and had this big rush of confusion/brain fog run over me. This lasted for a week. Nothing felt real. About 3 days later, my 1st period since September came. The last night I took the pill was later than normal and I woke up the next morning feeling worse. This was a Thursday morning. I stopped taking any more pills and by the following Tuesday I was getting back to my normal self. I want to try to go back on them again, but this event scared me too much."

"I have been using it for two months. I had to switch from Junel Fe 1/20 because I kept experiencing spotting. The one upside to this is that my period is very light, but so far I have been very dizzy and extremely tired. It gets annoying because I have a job where I need to be on my feet all day. I’m hoping the feeling goes away, but if not, I will have to find something different."

"I got put on Junel and had no complaints, but did notice a weight gain and definitely more so always waking up with the dreaded bloat. I took it for about 2 years and then stopped. Instantly after working out and eating semi-healthier, I lost 15 lbs. Then I decided to go back on Junel and have continued working out, eating right, but have unfortunately gained 8 pounds in about 6 months. I think literally all birth control pills will cause weight gain, but I do notice I’m more hormonal and my OCD is worsened during my placebo week. I also have PMDD that is somewhat managed on this, but still suffer. I’m more angry and less chill on this birth control pill, but compared to others such as Blisovi (which made me suicidal), I prefer the Junel side effects. It also helped clear up my skin from when I noticed I was off of it, but I don't know. I like this pill but wish there was a better one for weight."

"I was switched to this medication from Microgestin FE 1.5/30 for unknown reasons. When I voiced my concerns, I was told that because they are both generic forms, nothing inside of my body would change. I took the other generic for 2.5 years, no issues. I’ve been on Junel for 2 weeks and have been bleeding moderately (much more than “spotting”) and had severe cramping since starting the medication. Reached out to my prescriber again with concerns and was told it was “normal” for Junel. If you don’t have to take this brand, I wouldn’t. I’m also tired all the time and sore for no apparent reason. I’m cranky and indifferent at the same time. Considering taking myself off of it."

"I started back on birth control in November 2022 on Hailey Fe 1.5/30. For some reason, my last RX at my pharmacy changed to Junel 1.5/30. This has been my first pack, and I’m on my last week and have quit it and will not be taking it again. I have bled the entire month, have been lethargic, angry, sad, starving, zero sex drive. This stuff is terrible. Not sure why it would be so different than the Hailey, but I’m done with it and will not take it again."

"I've been taking Junel Fe for about six months now. I didn't get my period for the first three months, and I have gained 15-20 lbs since going on it. My biggest issue is my complete lack of sex drive. What is the point of birth control if I don't want to have sex anymore? I don't know if it's the pill or just me, but I have been extremely emotional and prone to crying at any moment. I haven't been pregnant, so it does what it's intended to do."

"First time writing a review, and I just want to say everyone's body is different, of course! I have been on Junel Fe for a year now, and I had switched to it because I was bleeding heavily daily after being on another pill. Once switching to Junel, I immediately stopped bleeding, and I felt great. Junel was great to me: lighter periods, no acne, don't believe I gained weight, and I was fine. No health issues whatsoever. Out of nowhere this year, last week, I started spotting/bleeding again, but a black/brown color, like a few reviews mentioned, for about 5 days now still, and my provider is switching me off of Junel. :( It was great while it lasted. Not sure why I started spotting again, but hopefully, I find the right pill for me."

"I've been on this pill for about a few months now, and the one thing about it that I've noticed is my breasts growing! No horrible side effects, slight nausea here and there but nothing major. A little bit of weight gain in my tummy. But my cup size has gone up from a C 38 to D 36 in less than 3 months."

"I have been on this birth control since September of 2016. There were a few months in that time frame where I stopped, but mainly have been on it consistently. I’ve always been more on the emotional side, but over the past almost five years I’ve noticed it increase dramatically. I thought it was due to the relationship I was in and my state of mental health. But here I am, many months single, and things have been going great in life, yet I’m still sluggish, emotional, and extremely irritable. The times where I was off the pill I noticed I wasn’t as quick to get angry and I wasn’t so emotional all the time. I loved not having a period on the pill and how I never got pregnant, but that was all. It caused constant acne and has had me on an emotional rollercoaster. I have decided to stop taking it and not get on anything else for a while. Everyone’s experience clearly is different, but I recommend changing or stopping birth control the moment you feel off."

"I got on this birth control because Nexplanon was giving me too many issues. Ever since starting it, my acne has been awful. I’m talking like 10 new pimples a day. I’m tired constantly and can sleep for 16 hours and still not be able to get up. My breasts are huge and in excruciating pain. I didn’t bleed the second month I was on this pill but still had the most awful cramps, I thought my cramps on Nexplanon were at a 10 pain level, but I was wrong. I get nauseous, and if I go over 2 hours without eating, I feel like I’m starving. I’m so weak and nearly passing out during workouts. At night, my legs tingle and hurt and go numb. I’m having the darkest thoughts I’ve ever had, and I’m far out of puberty. I’m scared of things I may do and the way I feel if it gets worse. I cry upwards of 5 times an average day. I keep having trouble sleeping despite the extreme exhaustion. I’m going to the doctor today to see what can be done."

"This is my most recent prescription, and I can't say it's been the best. I have had terrible mood swings, episodes of extreme anxiety, and no sex drive, which isn't the biggest deal for me. I am easily upset and have been crying very often. My poor boyfriend has been taking the front load of it all, he probably thinks I'm crazy at this point. I am not hungry as often, and this has caused me to be lightheaded when I stand up. I only switched this brand and upped my dosage because my periods were not normal, I had one every two weeks. Thankfully, I have not gained weight because that was my biggest concern from the reviews I have read. I'm not overall thrilled while being on this prescription. I have PCOS, and my mood swings and anxiety are more severe being on this. This medicine is almost putting my relationship on the line at this point."

"I have higher blood pressure but was prescribed this anyway; I was told to monitor BP. Only took for 1 week before I started to experience ocular migraines, which I may normally get once or twice a year, if even that. I began experiencing them repeatedly throughout the day for 4 days straight before I was worried it would permanently cause vision loss or something else. I immediately quit taking them and no longer have been having ocular migraines."

"I took Junel Fe 1.5/30 for about 9 months. I originally was on Junel Fe 1/20 but experienced some breakthrough bleeding months in, so I switched to a higher dose. Everyone is different, and everyone’s body is different, however, this pill did not work for me. I have a history of anxiety and depression, and this pill made me insane. I cried so easily, I was so easily aggravated. I felt like I could never be happy, and nothing could make me happy. Like the smallest things bothered me. Probably the worst mood swings I have ever experienced, and my doctor convinced me that it was normal. But after 9 months, I had had enough. I switched to another brand and feel so much better and so much more like myself. I never experienced any nausea or other symptoms. My skin was pretty decent on this pill too, however, I care most about how I feel mentally. Also, I had been on birth control before this, so I’m not sure if that affects it either."

"I am 27, healthy, and have been on birth control since I was 15. I had to switch off my old birth control as they don’t offer it anymore. The first month I took this, I had severe night sweats for two weeks. My period was beyond heavy and lasted 12 days. I am on my third month and have had recurring yeast infections since being on this. It is honestly awful. My uterine lining has also thinned out drastically that when I have sex, it is always pink after. And I am an emotional person, but I swear my emotions are even more out of whack using this. I cry all the time. I am not using this anymore."

"I’ve been taking this Junel Fe for almost 4 years. I had a 6-month gap after 2 years, and boy, was my life way better back then. I was definitely more motivated to do things. This pill makes me a depressed girl with vag problems. I get yeast infections more than I should. I barely eat any food, and it’s becoming extremely unhealthy. I cry so much. My sex drive is extremely low. My symptoms include feeling sad, a constant need to pee, and reoccurring yeast infections. My periods are SO irregular, it’s really annoying not knowing when I’ll get it. I lost a lot of weight, and when I informed my OB-GYN, she told me that’s not something I should be complaining about. Always looking at the cup half empty. This Junel Fe is definitely not worth all the side effects and complications in the long run. I honestly thought it was my mental health, but it wasn’t. Because that 6-month gap between stopping it and going back on it was the happiest 6 months of my life. Avoid this birth control."

"I am 18, and this is the first birth control I went on because I had a very large ovarian cyst (at the point where I need surgery). I HATE this pill. I have struggled with acne, nothing too bad, but I still always have acne. Only after 4 days, the acne on my face got terrible, it was all over my face. Not only on my face, but then I started to get back acne (which I had never had before), that isn't even the worst part. I got acne all over my boobs, like huge pimples everywhere, it was just so gross. My mood swings were terrible. I would get too mad so easily, and once I got mad, I always just started to cry. After a week on this pill, I started to get really bad hip pain, and Advil wasn't helping much. For me, this pill was absolutely terrible."

"I do not recommend this birth control. I am a healthy 20-year-old with no previous medical history. A month into taking this new birth control (I changed doctors, and she changed me from Ortho Tri-Cyclen because she doesn't like it), so I decided to give it a try. Within the first 2 weeks, my face started breaking out badly, mood changes, appetite change (constantly hungry), feet started swelling, and then chest heaviness and palpitations along with shortness of breath. Needless to say, I stopped taking it, and now I feel fine. Do your research before starting a new pill."

"I started so my boyfriend and I could have sex without protection. The first week, I ate so much. My appetite grew that I amazed everyone around me eating so much. The second week, I got such bad nausea I threw up. Third week, I feel a lot better. But I noticed that when I was having sex, I was significantly dry and had noticed my drive to want to have sex decrease. I had a very high sex drive, and I’m usually very aroused. But lately, it seems like sex is a chore, and I really have to focus to try and enjoy it a little. So while the side effects of nausea and increased hunger went away, the lack of desire to want to have sex the first month and dryness was enough to turn me off. My friends warned me about the side effects and that a lower sex drive would happen. I decided to stop taking the pills because while I believe the nausea will go away, the lack of desire, and dryness I don’t think will because of the hormones. So I decided to stop. But at least I didn't get pregnant, lol."

"I started Junel because I began to get my period every 2 weeks. All was fine the first 3 weeks. It helped my depression/anxiety and mood immediately. When I started the placebo, I got extremely depressed. I always had depression, but now it was a really dark depression. It had been 2 days, and I couldn't stop hysterically crying. On day 4, it was the absolute worst - I decided to call my sister. She knew I had been to the OB recently and asked when I started taking my placebo (I have an app for that). Day 1 of taking the placebo was when the crying began. The OB was closed, so we decided I should start taking them again. Monday, they called and told me to stop it, I refused. I was starting to feel normal again. They put me on it continuously, no placebos. I had no side effects as long as I took it every day, but if even 1 day got skipped, I would be crazy. I was recently able to wean myself off of it and wouldn't take it again."

"I have been on Junel Fe for about 2.5 years on and off, and I've about had it. I should've known when I first began because I got headaches endlessly when I started and gained weight (plus it was my freshman year of college, so double the weight), and my skin has suffered as well. This pill is the absolute worst. I have to take it the same time every day or I start spotting, and I have never been this moody. Switching to Kyleena next month."
