Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "I took this for about a week. ONLY A WEEK. It broke me out right away, and I was absolutely crazy with my moods. I'm still suffering mild hormone imbalance and acne side effects after being off of it for 2 weeks, but I'm just glad to be off. I'm not sure if it would have stopped my periods or not, but I wasn't going to try."

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "After a 'period from hell' one summer at camp when I became anemic, my doctor put me on Ortho Novum. However, when I switched to another doctor, I was put on 'the generic form' that is Nortrel 7/7/7. That's when things got weird. I gained at least 30 pounds that year (and I play sports and eat relatively healthy), and soon I was at a point when 11 hours of sleep was barely keeping me functional through the day."

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "Started taking this per recommendation from my gynecologist. I was getting heavy periods every 3 weeks. I've been on this for 3 months. My period is still not regular. I get my period during week 2 of the pill pack. It's not heavy but very dark. I get terrible cramps and unbearable breast tenderness. I've gained 5 pounds, and my eating habits have not changed. I take medicine for anxiety and depression. My symptoms have increased, and I'm frequently cranky. My skin, however, looks wonderful! No more breakouts! When I go back to my gynecologist in July, I'm asking for something else."

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "I was prescribed this to regulate my periods, reduce my cramps, and help with my severe depression around my period. It did none of these things. I was on it for 2 months, and in that time, I got my period every two weeks, broke out horribly all over my face and back, gained ten pounds, and was nauseous every day. My gyno told me to try it out for 3 months, but honestly, the side effects were too miserable to last another month."

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "I have always struggled with severe cramps, lengthy periods, and heavy bleeding. The OB/GYN gave me a sample of Minastrin FE, and it worked wonders: no cramps, light and short periods. I went back to the OB/GYN because of an insurance change and was prescribed Junel Fe. It started out with extreme nausea every night to the point where I couldn't move or I'd gag. Then there was leg pain. My period started, and it was back to the bad cramping, long periods, and heavy bleeding. Very disappointing. Thankfully, I'm being put back on Minastrin. Just because it didn't work for me doesn't mean it won't work for you. I hope everyone has a much better experience."

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "I absolutely love this pill. I had a horrible menstrual cycle throughout my 20s. I am now 34, my first BC experience was with the NuvaRing, which was a total fail. I do not want to have periods. My gyno said it is possible to not get your periods, you just have to find a pill that is compatible with your body chemistry. I started BC pills about 2 years ago. I was on Amethyst, Jolessa, Lo Lo Estrin, and now Junel Fe. I've been on it for 5 months now. I had breakthrough bleeding the first month for about 10 days. I only take active pills. I no longer have periods or any symptoms. I get light brown discharge (it is so light it's almost not noticeable) for about 2 days a month. I'm completely thrilled !!!!"

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "I have been on Junel 1/20 for about 5 or 6 months now for ovarian cysts. I have dealt with severe cramping for years, and this has definitely decreased the pain. However, despite the pros, there are some cons. One being my breasts hurt all the time and have gotten bigger, and lots of fluid retention (especially in my lower abdomen and thighs). Don't like the feeling of being swollen everywhere, it makes me so I can't fit in my clothes some of the time. I just deal with it because it's better than the cramps I was having, lol."

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "The first few weeks that I started taking this pill, the worst thing that happened to me was my face was a little dry, but nothing a moisturizer could not fix. I am on it for my period disorders. I would have a period for 8 to 9 days, every 2 months, sometimes every 2 weeks, it was just messed up. So my doctor put me on this pill. My period is now 3 days long, I could wear a pantyliner the whole time and be perfectly fine. The dryness on my face went away, and I haven't gained any weight or something crazy of that sort."

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "I took this pill for the first time in college because of abnormally heavy and frequent periods. I stayed on it for about 6 months before stopping once my cycle leveled out. During this short time taking the pill, I was very anxious, nervous, and depressed. I started taking the same pill again about a year ago for the same reasons. I have noticed over the last few months that I go through spats of depression, and I am always anxious. I am beginning to wonder if there is a correlation between the pill and anxiety/depression. Other than that, this pill has been great for me; no weight gain, no acne, and my last period was 8 months ago. Decent pill, but planning to talk to my doctor soon to look into other options."

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "I had my period three times the first month, two on the second, and two times again on the third. While this BC did not make me gain weight, I don't believe it helped with my acne much. I called my doctor after the third month and she switched me to something different... just hope this won't be as bad as this pill... expect to be on your period the whole three first months, really.."

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "This is awesome. I have been using this for about a year and a half now. I'm currently 17 if that matters. I use this purely for controlling my heavy period. I used to get heavy and long periods. I would have to change my tampon like every couple of hours, and when I got my period, it was like a flood. Also, I had horrible mood swings during my periods and would have crying fits and have to skip school because I was having such a horrible day. With this, my life has changed! I do not get mood swings anymore, which means I have a much more positive view on life. I don't get the headaches anymore. My periods only come every few months, and they only last 1 day when I do get them. This is awesome."

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "I went on this pill to regulate my period and reduce the days of my cycle. Before, I was averaging about 5 days on my period, but it was never regular. I'm finishing my 2nd month on this pill, and so far, my 2 periods lasted between 8-10 days. It is much lighter (like spotting), but lasts forever. My last period came a week early too. This pill has not caused any weight gain or emotional mood swings, and it did keep my skin clear, and I'm not pregnant, but those are the only positive things about this pill. I will be calling my Dr. for another recommendation."

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "I started Loestrin 24 because I am beyond PMS... It's worse since I had a baby. For example, like two weeks out of the month I get horrid back pain and feel the need to curl in a ball and cry. I also drive my boyfriend nuts. He thinks I'm crazy. Therefore, I hope this birth control helps me because Ortho Tri-Cyclen, Lutera, among others, are bad for me. I know every woman is different, and I want something that works with my body. I asked the OB nurse at my gynecologist if I could have my hormone levels checked. She said there's no such thing, and people's hormones fluctuate every day, so it's no use in testing them. Is that a crock of lies? I read about people getting their levels checked, and the only thing she said was for me to get my thyroid checked. I'm very tired on it."

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "I started this pill on July 22nd, and received my period on August 1st. It's now August 14, and my period is still on and showing no signs of leaving. The first two weeks, I was sick, couldn't eat, and had extreme headaches. Now, I'm very low in energy and just ready for this to be over. My doctor tells me that it's normal, I have had a heavy flow since I started this. Can't be normal."

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "I am 35 and have had extremely random menstrual cycles for as long as I have had a period. I never know when the cycle will start, end, or if it will be spotty or 5 gallons of blood. I am on the 3rd month of this Microgestin 1.5/30, and I will not be taking it anymore. The Microgestin has seemed to make my menstrual cycles right on schedule and with very little blood flow, however, since week one, I have had the most painful ovarian cysts. I have never had these before, and it started on week one, but the last several have ruptured closer to ovulation. The first time I had to call the ambulance because I thought my appendix had burst. After 2 months, I started forming a belly that looks very similar to a baby bump, but it is not."

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "I had been taking Lo Losterin before starting Junel FE but had to switch per my insurance. I've been taking Junel since late July, but since starting it, I've been hoping I would start feeling better. Constantly feeling nausea is the #1 problem for me. It doesn't matter how accurately I take the medication, at some point in every day, I feel sick. And then I start to get paranoid and wonder if I'm pregnant and feeling morning sickness. #2 is the irregular periods. I've never had a period that was consistent, so I thought this would be a good way to regulate - boy, was I wrong! My period will start in the middle of my active pills, be there for 3 days, and then come back for 3 days on my iron pills. WHAT THE HECK, Vern?"

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "I just started taking this pill 12 days ago. I just got my period, which I shouldn't get for another 12 days, with or without taking a birth control pill. This is not 'spotting.' I also have been WAY oversensitive and crying about things for the past few days. I was given this pill to manage my PMS emotions. It's not exactly working out."

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "This has done absolutely nothing. I was put on Junel Fe, and that did wonders for me: clearing up acne, helping with weakness and cramps. However, my local pharmacy switched me to this. I never ever write bad reviews, but I feel so strongly about this I have to. My cramps are equally as painful as before going on the pill, my acne has flared, my mood has worsened, and I've had horrific headaches. Totally the worst thing in the world. Now I'm sitting in an 18-hour long car ride with some of the worst cramps I've ever had. No point in taking the medicine for period symptoms if it does absolutely nothing."

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "This is absolutely the worst birth control I have taken in my life. I switched to Junel Fe because my previous birth control wasn't a high enough dosage to even slightly relieve my horrible periods. Not even 3 days after starting to take it, I literally cry for no reason, and I am very emotional and irritable. This pill turned me psycho. Do not recommend it at all."

"I was prescribed this for migraine prevention as I do not have a risk for pregnancy (I’m gay). For 8 months, I took it at continuous doses, skipping the placebo period, as prescribed by the doctor. It didn’t seem to help my migraines, but I kept thinking I needed to give it more time — I did enjoy the lack of cramps and periods. However, a few months ago, I was diagnosed with stage 2 grade 3 IDC (breast cancer). I’m only 32, and genetic testing has revealed no mutations, which leaves this drug as the main culprit. Please have a breast exam before starting this, do them on yourself, and pay attention to ANY breast changes. Mine presented as an indentation, not a lump. I cannot recommend this continuous dosing method to anyone after my experience."

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "Stopped periods completely by the 3rd month; has side effects of tender breasts, making me sleepier after taking it (take it before bed, no problem). Caused the worst acne I've ever had in my life. Used it to skip periods since mine are very heavy/bad; did that just great. No side effects I couldn't deal with/live with, other than the acne. Deep cystic types, whiteheads, oily skin - switching since I'm not looking to prevent pregnancy, just to manage periods & I can try a different hormone composition. Missing a pill in the first 2 months caused spotting; after that, missing one here or there didn't do much."

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "This is the WORST birth control. Ever. Granted, I don't get a period. My breasts are so sore I don't even know what to do. I'm a stomach sleeper, and that is not an option with this. It's unreal. I will be back to my Loestrin and never even looking at this stuff again."

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "I originally started on the 1/20 dose, moving up to the 1.5/30 because my doctor made an error on my script. I am very happy with this BCP, as it reduced my awful cramps and heavy menstruation. I have 2-day periods now, little to no cramping. My acne has cleared almost completely, other than the once-a-month breakout on my chin that I feel is unavoidable, and I'd rather be on a pill that takes care of most of my acne rather than no acne at all. I occasionally will have breast tenderness, but not every month, and I don't really notice it when it does happen. Also, my symptoms of PMS have decreased significantly. My only complaint is that I do get headaches that may be caused by this pill, but I cannot say for sure that they are."

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "I've been on Loestrin 24 for around 5 months, and I am overall very happy with it. I am 16 and sexually active. The first three months were bad in terms of side effects: lots of nausea, acne, spotting, and cramping. But from the get-go, I went from heavy, long periods to very short light periods. For the past two months, I have had just spotting for around 3 days, not exactly in correspondence with my brown pills but close enough. I no longer get bloated on my period, I do still have acne around my time of the month, but that can be attributed to my negligence of going to the dermatologist in half a year. It worries me that some people get no period at all because pregnancy scares are definitely not my favorite. But now I feel safe and satisfied."
