Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "I've been on this pill for 3 months and started experiencing the worst acne that I've ever had in a long time. I was taking Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo prior to Loestrin 24, and other than the price, it was great. I decided to switch to a cheaper pill, but this birth control does not control my acne. I'm experiencing breakouts on my chin, cheeks, and forehead. I've since called my ob-gyn and have switched back to Ortho Lo, which helps control my acne."

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "I started birth control 6 weeks ago (one month, 2 weeks) hoping it would help with my acne, heaviness of my flow, and cramps. So far, I've had my period 3 times this month, lasting around 1-3 days. Before I started birth control, I didn't have bad skin, just breakouts when my menstrual cycle began. Ever since starting birth control, I've had so many breakouts, to the point where I don't want to be seen. Yes, my acne isn't as bad as others, but it's still bothersome when I went on this medication to fix this problem."

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "It's funny because I usually get a breakout here and there like every normal girl, and I thought maybe this was just a coincidence that I was horrendously breaking out. I'm talking huge pimples plastered on my cheeks and little whiteheads all over my forehead. I thought maybe it was a coincidence till I read reviews and seen that this causes acne for a lot of people. I quit taking it 2 days ago, and my face is already immediately clearing back up again. I think I'll just stick to condoms. Birth control has been a nightmare for my face."

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "Just started taking this pill on Sunday, and it's now Friday. First two days, severe migraine, then every day after, I felt great. The only downfall is that I started taking this to control my acne, and I feel it's just making it worse. I've always heard it will get worse before it gets better, so I'm going to try to stick it out. I just hope that's the case. If not, I guess I'm going to have to try another option. I'm trying to be patient, but when it comes to something like this, it's hard."

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "I'm just finishing up my first month of Junel Fe, and I'm pretty pleased. I was put on Junel Fe for acne, and to be honest, I was really skeptical because of all the negative reviews. I had an initial minor breakout, but ever since then, my skin has been clearing up. I've given it a 7/10 because I've noticed slight weight gain (2 pounds) and weird mood swings. But I would strongly recommend this birth control."

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "I'm 17, and I've been on this pill for a month now. I started taking it to help with horrible periods, and it made them feel worse. I've been on my period for a week and am having horrible cramps, gained weight, and am breaking out on my chin and around my mouth."

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "I've been on this pill for 2 months and have seen decent acne results. Now it hasn't cleared up completely, and I still get pimples. Be aware, if you have scarring, it will get worse before it gets better. I'll probably switch to Ortho Cyclen after month 3 if the acne isn't completely gone. The top ones I would recommend for acne: 1. Yasmin, 2. Ortho Cyclen, 3. Diane 35. Hope this helps anyone with hormonal acne, has had it since high school like me, and is now in her junior year of college."

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "I have never posted a review for any product, but seeing reviews for this birth control was such an eye-opener that I had to! I am 22, and I have been on Lolo for about a year. My entire life, I maybe got five tiny pimples. The first few months of being on this pill, I didn't notice any changes. However, each month after that, my acne kept getting worse and worse. I did not realize it was from this pill until I started reading reviews and looking at pictures and matching to the time I started this birth control. My acne has gotten so bad that there are times I will not even leave the house. The day I saw these reviews, I threw all of my pills in the garbage. It has been a month, and I am still fighting the acne. STAY AWAY!"

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "The doctor prescribed me this, and I wish I never took it. Have to finish the pack so my period will get back on track. But honestly, this sucks. Made me go from mild acne to severe cystic acne on my forehead and chin, with reoccurring whiteheads on my nose and T-zone. Hate it."

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "I was on Microgestin Fe 1/20 for 4 years. In the beginning, everything was fine. My acne from high school went away, I didn't have any more cramps, and very light periods. Now that I'm in my 4th year, I noticed that all of a sudden, I started getting cystic acne all over my chin area! I knew that chin acne is a result of hormonal imbalance, which confused me since I was on this birth control for years! My dermatologist recommended that I switch to Ocella since it's better for acne."

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "I started taking Loestrin 24 Fe 2 weeks ago to prevent pregnancy, and my face is breaking out like crazy. Plus, I'm getting killer mood swings, which is just lovely since I'm already on an antidepressant (I'm on it for anxiety, not depression though). I'm gonna give it until I finish this pack, and if it's not better, I'm heading to the doctor and getting my birth control prescription changed."

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "I've been on this birth control for 5 weeks now, I was given 3 free months' worth to try from my doctor. I take very good care of my skin, and I was used to having acne just before a period with my oily combo skin. After the third week of taking this, my skin has turned absolutely horrible! Cystic acne, which I've never ever had in my life, and I'm in my mid-20s. My entire forehead and cheeks are covered in acne and even spreading to my chest. I'm so upset with this birth control, I do not recommend! I will be going to my doctor's tomorrow to switch to TriCyclenLo starting next month. I'm fighting my acne right now with: Lush Cosmetic Warrior mask, 10% benzoyl peroxide medicine, apricot scrub face wash, tea tree oil, and multivitamins."

"I went on this birth control due to the fact that I was breaking out and had never experienced bad skin ever before. It was hormonal acne, and it was relatively painful, and I was getting a new pimple almost every day (all in my T-Zone). When I started the birth control, my skin got worse, and there was a decent amount of spotting. My skin continued to break out badly for the first two months of birth control. But I highly suggest waiting it out because now, in the fourth month, my skin looks better than it has in quite a while, and any pimple I randomly get is not nearly as painful. In the end, the birth control kept my acne from scarring my face. It works very well, it just takes a couple of months."

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "Reading some of these reviews has made me feel so much better. I started this BC about 6 months ago, and while my acne/face was certainly not perfect beforehand, it has gotten so much worse since starting this. Horrible, huge, painful cystic acne - repeatedly, especially on the cheeks. I do not wear makeup at all, so no reason for my pores to be this oily and clogged. Honestly, I am about to just stop taking it, it's really not worth it for me (especially as I'm on it for acne and period maintenance and don't even have a partner at the moment). I've been on several other types of BC over my lifetime - Yaz, Yasmin, Gianvi, Ventura, probably others way back in the day. Absolutely none of those made my face look as bad as this."

"I've been taking this for about a year now and didn't put two and two together until today. Every month, I'd get these bad cystic zits on my face, and I rarely ever got them before I started this pill. I wear makeup, but that was never really an issue for me. Now, seeing what everyone else has to say, I finally realized it is this pill causing me to break out with cystic acne every month! I'm furious! Please do not try, I don't recommend, especially if you're looking for a pill to clear your skin."

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "I've only been on Junel for a week and a half, so I'm hoping that this will calm down after I've been on it for a little while, but it's given me so much acne! I've always had pretty clear skin, and now my face and upper back are literally covered in deep acne and bumps. Also, I've noticed that my hair gets greasy faster, too. I just feel so oily and disgusting all the time. I'm trying to stick it out, but this is absolutely horrible, and I definitely cannot put up with these side effects if they persist. Wouldn't recommend."

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "I started this pill three months ago (what a mistake!). Not only has it messed up my skin, but I have been a hormonal wreck. Other side effects include breast pain and severe headaches! I do not recommend taking this pill, especially if you are looking to clear your skin."

"This is my second month on this medication, and I've called my doctor to take me off it and switch my birth control. My acne comes in waves, sometimes my face can be clear for months at a time, and sometimes I'll get pimples randomly. Since starting this pill, I've broken out worse than ever before, and mostly around my mouth and chin. I'm 27 years old. I haven't really had any other negative side effects with this pill, but the acne is bad. I never write reviews, but I feel very strongly that this pill is TERRIBLE enough to let others know."

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "This so far has been the only pill/birth control where I don't feel emotionally unstable; I feel like my regular self. HOWEVER, I have noticed a significant increase in pimples: breakouts on my face. It looks terrible, like connecting the dots. I feel like I'm just going to deal with it because it's the lesser of the two evils. Also, this is only my second pack of it, but I did have 2 periods in one cycle. I've never had that with another birth control. Probably going to get another pack at my next appt. I would much rather feel emotionally normal than have perfect skin. Yes, my skin is looking bad. But not many other options!"

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "Went on it for acne on my chest and neck. It helped that, but then it made my face break out like I've never seen. 30+ pimples (mostly by my chin/mouth). It made me so incredibly moody, too, and breakthrough bleeding for 2 weeks, and I just said NO and stopped it. Would never recommend this to anyone, EVER."

I still don't know how it will affect my period, but so far it has made me break out on my chin and around my mouth. It gives me bad headaches and makes me depressed. There is no way I will continue taking this birth control."

I have been depressed, crazy anxiety from the bad acne this pill has given me, whiteheads and cyst-like pimples all over my chin. I don't recommend this to anyone!"

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "I have been on Loestrin 24 Fe for only a month. I didn't have painful periods until I got off of birth control. I was on Depo (the shot every 3 months), and I did not have a period, but I did gain almost 15-20 pounds. I was on Depo for 3 years, and then I decided to get off, and I wanted to have a normal period. That's when everything went downhill. I would be in so much pain that I would call out of work, miss classes, and the pain caused me to be depressed. After ultrasounds, x-rays, no sex (too painful), they found nothing wrong. The doctors gave me Yaz, and that made me feel worse. It did control my mood swings, but not the pain. Loestrin 24 Fe has been great so far."

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "My doctor recommended a Gildess Fe 1/20 when I complained of the water retention I experienced from Ortho Tri-Cyclen (which left my skin clear). Well, this pill does not cause bloating, but my skin immediately broke out terribly along my cheeks, jawline, and chin. I decided to stick it out since, aside from the acne, I had no other side effects, but the breakouts lasted way longer than I anticipated (about 6 mo). I still get the occasional pimple along the jawline, but I'm hoping that they will become less frequent. Taking evening primrose oil (1300 mg 2x/day) along with the pill seems to help calm inflammation and lessen hyper-pigmentation from the breakouts."

"I started taking this pill about 4/5 months ago, and I used to have great skin. Since I’ve started taking this, my whole face, including my forehead, chin, and the area around and including my nose, is covered in horrible acne. My doctor decided to give me a prescription cream to use to try and help it, but it did nothing. I used to have great skin before this, and I also noticed I’m hungry all the time and have probably gained a few pounds. I would highly NOT recommend this birth control!"
