Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "I had been on Lo Loestrin Fe for about 2 years. During the early first year, I didn't have many problems, occasional breakouts. I had very light periods. By the last year, I was never having my period at all, my gyno said it was normal and that's why people like this pill. I didn't mind it, but it scared me that I got nothing, no drop of anything at all for about 10 months in a row. I thought that cannot be good for my body. Along with that, my acne got the worst it has ever been. The right side of my face broke out in huge pimples side by side. I have never had acne like this. I stopped taking it about 2 weeks ago, considering I was pretty much sure it was due to this birth control. Now I'm struggling to clear my face. Do not take this pill."

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "I have been taking this medication for only 12 days. My skin used to be perfect, and I did not even have to wear any makeup. My skin has become horrendous, and I haven't even been on the pill for 2 weeks. I am stopping it tomorrow, and I am going to see if this clears up my face. My cheeks, jawline, and chin broke out so much, and I have never had that happen before. I hate it so much, and I don't even want to leave my house. Please check with your doctor and other people who are on this to see if this is right for you."

Couldn't stop crying, and I broke out terribly, which was very upsetting considering the only reason I went on birth control in the first place was because of my acne. 3rd month, everything completely turned around-my acne got noticeably better. Being on it for 5 months now, I notice that around my period and the week before my skin is flawless, but the first two weeks of starting the new packet I seem to break out. Maybe the hormones are too high. In terms of my period, it's extremely light, and I get no PMSing at all anymore, while before sometimes I couldn't go to school, it was so bad."

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "This is literally a nightmare for your skin. On the week where you aren't taking the pill, my skin literally dried up. And almost immediately on the first day of taking the pill after the break week, I will wake up the next morning with a cyst or two on my chin. I am done using this for good. Destroys your skin."

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "I just completed my third month on Junel. At first, it made my skin experience the worst acne I have ever had in my life. I experienced tons of tiny breakouts all over my face and cystic pimples, both things I have never seen on my face before. I decided to give it time because many say your skin needs to get worse before it gets better; however, after three months, it never did. When I would go on my placebo weeks, my skin would clear, and when I started the pill, it would break out again. I would not recommend taking this medication for acne. In addition, I noticed terrible mood swings while on this medication. Many of my friends and family remarked that I was hostile at times. I felt deep depressions that I have never felt before."

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "I changed from the POP to Loestrin about a month ago, especially to clear up spots. It is great if you want a regular light period, however, don't go near it if you're looking for acne relief! Has made my face go from a few pimples to a horrible mess! Also has caused some uncomfortable and not nice-looking bloating :( Managed to change pills and recommend Doxycycline for acne relief instead of the pill, as none of these side effects and works well!"

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "Update from spookyblack: I forgot to mention the terrible nightmares I have been having. They are really messed up, and there is breakthrough bleeding. This pill has made me super tired, depressed, and has gnarly mood swings. I have been eating a lot and have gained a lot of weight. Great, just in time for summer, right? I have felt the worst about myself and my looks ever since I started this pill. Please don't do this to yourself, and not to mention the nasty acne I, and so many girls, have experienced."

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "Let's start with the fact that I just cried for 20 minutes because of the acne this pill has given me. I've been on it for exactly 2 weeks and I've never seen a pimple in my life. Suddenly, my entire forehead is covered in pimples. I was put on this pill because I got my period every 5 days and it lasted for 6-11 days. No blood or spotting since I went on the pill, which is a miracle for me! "I usually have medium acne-nothing some foundation and concealer can’t cover. However, I really wanted to finally clear my skin up (and was also having problems with my period), so my OBGYN suggested Lomedia 24 Fe. After the first week or two, my acne was terrible. So, so bad, I couldn’t even stand it. I started getting cystic acne all over my cheeks and these huge pimples on my forehead. After reading other reviews that said the same thing, I quit the pill. My acne has finally gone away, and my face is back to how it used to be. Even if it’s not perfect, I’ll take this over the horrible acne I got from this pill. Do not use."

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "My gynecologist gave me this pill to 'regulate my hormones (periods),' and it was the worst decision ever. I ended up quitting the pill after I reached a month because it gave me THE WORST ACNE OF MY LIFE (which I'm still suffering from a month after quitting), mood swings, depression, and HORRIBLE BLOATING! And I have suffered from acne all my teen years (17 now), but it was regular hormonal kind of acne I would get during that time of the month. I actually had pretty bad acne ear. But the acne I have now is on a whole other level. And to top it all off, the pill didn't even do what it was supposed to do. I didn't get my period while on this pill, and now I have a regular period again. I wish I would've never taken this pill!!!!!"

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "This is the worst birth control I have been on. I would not recommend this birth control to my worst enemy. I was on it for 3 months and had the worst mood swings, depression, and worst acne that I still suffer from even after 2 months of being off it. I never usually write reviews online, but knew I had to warn anybody thinking about going on this product. I had such a clear face before I began this birth control, a few minor zits during my period, but that's normal for anybody, but after this, I still have red cystic acne... it's horrible. I used to be able to wear no makeup, now I can't even leave the house without makeup because I'm too self-conscious of my acne. DO NOT GO ON THIS BIRTH CONTROL."

"I have only 1 side effect on this pill... terrible constant acne/skin issues! Before I started taking this pill, I would get a few occasional pimples along my jawline (hormonal mostly). Since I started this pill (4 months ago), I've broken out in areas I didn't know I could break out in: back, shoulders, jaw, neck, chest, forehead, cheeks, it's horrible. My face is also extremely oily on this pill. I also have little white bumps and a red rash on my neck? Really weird stuff. Do not take this pill if you're prone to acne breakouts. Last night was my first pill of Yaz (which I took a few years back)."

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "I have never had perfect skin, however, after taking this pill, it is in horrendous shape. My doctor gave me a 3-month trial, and I was told to come back after that time frame to see how it was reacting with my body. In these 3 months, I noticed my skin slowly getting worse (mainly jawline and down my neck), and I was also having no periods and was also feeling moody and tired all the time. My doctor wanted me to stick with the pill for another 3 months to see if everything started to even out. At month 5, I have cystic acne down my neck. I still don't have a 'real' period, just random spotting during the month. Also, I don't feel tired as often, however, I sleep about 11 hrs/night to feel refreshed. Definitely don't recommend this birth control."

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "I'm 21 years old, and this pill has helped clear my acne and has stopped my period cramps. I've been taking birth control since I was 16, and this has been the best one with fewer side effects. When I first started it, it gave me migraines, but that quickly went away after the first month. I am really happy with this pill."

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one who is having a horrible breakout because of this pill. I've been taking it for 1.5 months, and my face, chest, and back started to break out. In addition, it is very expensive. The one positive thing I did experience is no bad headaches during my period like I used to get with other pills. Will go back to another pill that doesn't cause me these bad breakouts."

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "So I was on Ginanvi for about 3 months before I switched over to this pill due to the high cost of Ginanvi (I don't have insurance). Ginanvi had cleared up my acne in the short time I used it, and I was hoping this birth control would not mess that up. I was wrong. After 2-3 months of using this pill, my skin went crazy with horrible breakouts. Now, 9 months later, I still have horrible acne. If you want a pill that helps with acne, this is NOT it. It also made my period 'weird.' I would have little to no period one month and a heavy one the next. The month that I had a heavier flow, my boobs would hurt a lot. I also noticed that at the beginning of taking it, I would be moody and extremely irritable all the time. It's time for me to switch."

I've been on it for two months and started seeing the effects about three weeks ago. I'm going back to Ortho Tri-Cyclen next week because that worked wonders for my face."

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "If I could give this medicine a 0 for acne, I would. I've been on it for years because it's the only birth control that seriously regulates my heavy periods, but it makes my skin horrible. I'm in my 20s, and my skin looks like a 13-year-old's. It gives me horrible cystic acne that no face treatment can clear up. I've tried everything. Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "Absolutely terrible, this pill made me depressed, angry, and anxious. I can barely sleep at night, and it's causing my cheeks to break out (I've never had acne on my cheeks...). I've also had to go to the doctor because I fainted multiple times (note: I have never ever fainted or even come close to it), along with being lightheaded, nauseous, and having no appetite whatsoever. I'm 19, and I've been on it about 3 months. Would not recommend unless you want to be a completely different person (for the worst). The one good thing is I haven't had a period since I've been on it."

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "Absolutely horrible. I have been on this for about a year. I guess I never put two and two together and realized what was causing my breakouts until looking up other women's experiences. I have horrible cystic acne on my cheeks that will come and stay, and then my skin will be perfectly clear, and it will come right back, not to mention the scars this has caused me. I also agree it has made my anxiety absolutely horrible, and sometimes I get so depressed I literally will just cry. I go back to the doctor in February, and I am going to ask to be switched. I'm hoping this acne clears up, it is absolutely embarrassing... especially when your job makes you deal with the public all day."

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "Absolutely hated this birth control pill. Within a few days of taking it, the cystic acne started, and I read some reviews urging people to stick with it and it'd get better, so I did for 6 months, but this wasn't the case for me. My skin got worse... A lot worse. My skin wasn't great to begin with, but it was horrible on Loestrin. Whole face covered in under-the-skin bumps and large cystic acne on cheeks and chin. Been off of it for almost 4 months, and I can't seem to get the acne gone now. So frustrating. No other side effects."

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "I am BEYOND angry at how terrible my skin broke out while using this medication. It was a mystery to myself and family when my face began to break out terribly, to the point where I was prescribed oral acne medication, and the painful cysts still didn't go away. This medication almost ruined my skin, I am so thankful I stopped when I did and read these reviews! It's honestly infuriating that this was the cause! I stopped taking this pill about a week ago, and my skin has already cleared up substantially. Do not recommend!!!!"
