Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "I was prescribed Loestrin to get my irregular periods regular, and Gildess is the generic that my pharmacy carried. It did a really terrible job of regulating my periods because they are crazier now than they were before. The first month, I spotted almost the entire month, but my period was on time, short, and light. When I didn't spot at all the second month, I figured it would be smooth sailing. Nope. My period was really early that month and longer than usual. I either had an extremely early period the third month or heavy spotting accompanied by bad cramps and no period at all. It didn't affect my sex drive, but it did cause me to have vaginal dryness for about the first six weeks of taking it, although thankfully that side effect did go away after a while. I found myself to be incredibly short-tempered after starting this medication, but I think that side effect subsided (ask my friends, I guess haha). I also became alarmed at the amount of hair that was falling out, but a call to the doctor assured me that the hair is falling out faster, but also growing back in faster. I haven't noticed a change in the fullness of my hair, so I'll take her word on it. I have noticed myself having more pimples in the last month, but this could be related to stress because I hadn't noticed it the first two months. Bottom line, I'm giving it a six because while it served me well as birth control and I didn't get pregnant while taking it, and most of its side effects subsided for me, it has served me poorly for the reason it was prescribed, to regulate my period."

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "I want to start by saying thank you, ladies, for sharing your reviews. I have a rare blood disorder that causes me to bleed easily, especially during my cycle. I've tried many, many different ones for years, but Gildess seems to do the job. My first month, I spotted for about a week, my next month was light and no cramps, just cravings. Now this is the third month, it seems to have changed. The day I get my period, I could tell because when it comes the second month. The only complaints I have are I've been having severe cramping the closer to my period, weird sharp pains in my temples, and a bit of soreness, but nothing that's not manageable. Good luck, ladies. Oh, and a bit of acne that's easy to manage. Works really well, though."

"I was put on this to regulate my periods and help my acne. I've been on this for a little over a month now. I have had a lot more anxiety, many calf cramps, and extreme irritability. It also has barely regulated my period. I had a period for one day, which is good for most people, but not for me considering I went on the pill because I hadn't had a period in almost a year. I haven't gained any weight, and I have even more acne, but I went on estrogen pills before I went on the birth control, which might be the cause. However, the estrogen pills were supposed to be out of my system a month ago."

"So I’ve been on it for only a month, and I’m going to be honest, it’s been a game changer. I’m a person that has been dealing with abnormal uterine bleeding for a while. I also have cervical ectropion. What finally made me decide to try this pill was my doctor suggesting this to make my periods normal. I would spot up to five days before I'd even get my period and bleed occasionally after sex. Since taking this pill, I did not spot prior to getting my period, and it was extremely light (no complaints here about that). I did experience the skin breakout, but that wasn’t a biggie for me. I also have not had bleeding after sex. I know everyone is different, but I would recommend this pill."

"I was prescribed Junel 1.5/30 last year. When I started taking it, I bled for 18 days, so I stopped. I didn't really need to be on birth control, but it is easier and regulates periods. This year, somehow I was prescribed Blisovi 1/20, which is basically the same, just a lower dose, and I've been bleeding for 19 days now. I had Seasonique called for me. I need estradiol, so birth control pills are the best option, but norethindrone does not work for me."

"I got on this BC to help manage my excruciating menstrual cramps, and it did take away that pain. You really don't get much of a period on this pill. I get maybe 3 days of what seems like just light spotting. I don't really know how healthy it is to not get an actual period, though. I've been on the pill for 3 months now. The main issues I have with it are weight gain, acne, and vaginal dryness. I'm 25 y/o, and I've always been a skinny girl, and before I started this pill, I weighed 123 pounds. I've now gained 6 pounds in 3 months, bringing me to 129. I've never seen the scale at 129 before, and I never gain weight that fast. I work out 4-5 days a week and eat pretty healthy. Also having more acne than normal. I'll be trying out a new pill."

"I was given a sample by my gynecologist in June, and I stuck with that until it freaked me out by giving me a 2-week heavy period. I stopped, and the bleeding stopped. Then I talked to my doctor, and she told me to stick with it, so I got back on it again. I stuck with it, and I still kept having the same symptoms, but I listened to my doctor. I got a new doctor (my old one isn't with the clinic I go to anymore), and she prescribed me a higher dosage. I started taking that and got my period a few days into the pack. It was great at first, I was able to wear regular flow tampons without leaking. That was until the fifth or sixth day in when it got really heavy. I have now been on my period for 4 weeks. I talked to my doctor. I don't recommend this."

"I had some mild nausea here and there, but nothing serious. This is not my first time being on the pill, so I knew it was the pill causing it. I always felt, though, like this pill was a dam holding back the rushing waters of my cycle. Last week was time for my cycle, and the first day, no problem (last Tuesday), from Wednesday on, I couldn't leave my house. The bleeding was so heavy, and the clots were so huge and constant, I thought something was seriously wrong. I found myself to be very angry and short-tempered at every single thing and person (I am generally a very bubbly person). I called my doctor on Friday and said this is not the pill for me and to give me something else because I cannot do another month of this again. Never have I been in a situation where my bleeding was so heavy I couldn't go out for fear of messing all over myself. This was with the largest tampon I could buy and the heaviest pad I could get, and still, it was so much I was going through both about every hour."

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "I have been on this pill for two years. The first couple of months, I had a lot of nausea and sickness. For the rest of the time, I would either have two periods a month, every other week, but they were fairly light, or go months at a time with no bleeding at all. I'm switching to a different pill now just because I need a generic form, and there isn't one yet for Loestrin 24."

"From about 4th grade onward, I experienced semiannual ovarian cysts that caused me severe pain and made me stay out of school for several days. Even when they did figure out what it was, the doctors mainly had me stay on ibuprofen to stave off the pain. Finally, when they realized that it wasn't working that well and that the cysts kept coming back, my OBGYN suggested that I start taking this medicine to regulate the hormones that were likely causing my cysts. Ever since I started taking this medicine several years ago, I haven't had a single cyst and have only had minor side effects. I still PMS on my 'period,' and I still get cramps on occasion, but for the most part, everything is fine. I do think it causes bloating at times."

"I've been on this pill for several weeks now after trying to find the right pill for two years. It's the first pill I feel normal on. I've gained 3 pounds, but the scale is starting to go back down now, so maybe it was just water retention, although I have not felt bloated at all, which is great! I'm not moody and feel more even-keeled. I haven't had period issues or unpredictability. I just feel completely normal, and as for now, I'm very happy with this pill."

"I am 35 years old, taking Lo Loestrin FE pill for heavy menstrual bleeding. For the first four months on this pill, I felt very good, my menstrual bleeding reduced. From the fifth month, I started feeling very nauseated, headaches, short of breath, and mood swings."

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "I took Gildess Fe 1/20 for less than a month before I had to call my doctor and get a different form of BC. The first time I took it, I had nausea in the morning, but I figured it was because I hadn't eaten much when I took the pill. I ended up dealing with vomiting, nausea, and dry heaving while on this medicine. It made me really sick, and I couldn't take it anymore and switched to a different form of BC. I would NOT recommend this medicine (based on my personal experience). I did notice that this BC seemed to reduce my cravings for some foods, and I didn't necessarily notice any weight gain - if anything, I think I lost a few pounds because of the vomiting and not being able to eat without feeling horrible."

"Used to use Depo-Provera for years. Then went through 3 years no period. It then came back with a vengeance. Had abnormally high amount of bleeding for 7-9 days with such severe cramping that it would often result in a missed day or two of work each month for months on end before talking to my doctor. Shortly thereafter, I eventually got an endometrial biopsy. I was told the endometrial tissue was 'hormonally confused'-was then put on Lo Loestrin FE. I noticed a huge amount of positive difference within the first month and still presently. Light bleeding and minimal cramping for 3 days-it's like night and day. I would highly recommend."

"First off, this pill made my skin break out like never before. I feel super bad about myself and literally want to not leave my house. I started this for my irregular period, and this medicine has not helped, and I feel like I am being a huge cow to people. I would honestly just deal with bleeding every other week than deal with this emotional roller coaster on the downward spiral."

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "I've taken countless birth controls mainly because I used to have awful, heavy periods, and I have had to switch numerous times due to a problem always arising with the BC I take. I have always had clear skin. Not perfect; a breakout here and there, but nice skin. I have been on Junel Fe for 2 months now, and my skin is horrendous. I have back acne. My chest is even breaking out. I have bumps all over my forehead and cheeks (I have NEVER had acne on my cheeks) and even starting to come up on my neck. Do NOT take this for acne. Luckily, I haven't had any severe mood swings or depression, which is why I switched BC pills last time. I heard this medication was bad about making you crazy or depressed. All I know is this stuff made me break out bad."

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "I'm in the beginning of month two on Loestrin. I've always had crazy periods, so my body is still adjusting. I've had spotting the last week or so and my period just started before it was supposed to, but I think it's because I haven't been taking the pill at EXACTLY the same time every day. I'll quit taking it for a few days to let my period run its course, then will start again and hopefully keep things under control. So far I have had no weight gain, no moodiness/anxiety, no crazy acne or anything. I have had minor cramps here and there, but that's about it! I'll leave another review in a month or two!"

"I've had a positive experience with these pills. I am taking them to eliminate painful periods and to balance my hormones. I take the continuous pills, so I never have my period. The first month was more difficult. I had tender and swollen breasts and moodiness. During the second month, these side effects subsided, but I had a lot of spotting. Finally, in the third month, the spotting has stopped. Bonus, I have had an increase in breast size of 1/2 to one cup size."

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "I had been on a different form of bc for several years, but apparently it was not as effective as I got older. My GYN prescribed Gildess to me and suggested I try it for a few months to see if the condition improved. I was on Gildess for a total of 5 months. I kept in mind that you must allow time (3 mos) for your body to adjust, so although I experienced side effects from the start, I gave it a shot. I experienced uncontrollable mood swings and felt depressed and tired all the time! The worst side effects, though, were the extreme headaches I experienced while taking this medication. I know everyone is different, but as for me... I would never recommend this pill to anyone."

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "Junel Fe worked and did its job when it came to birth control, and it did help my acne. But when it came to my irregular periods (the main reason why I was put on it), it didn't regulate me, and I'd go months with having it and months without having it. Then I was placed on a different birth control for my regulation. Pretty good overall."

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "Been on this pill for about 2 years. First birth control pill I've ever been on, so I have nothing to compare it to. For about the first year, this pill was great. Never gained weight, never had acne. My hormones never seemed to go crazy. However, my periods have seemed to get worse with the pill. On average before the pill, my period came for 5 days. I didn't have major cramping or extremely heavy bleeding. On the pill, I seem to have the opposite. My cramps are so bad that sometimes I get in the fetal position on the bed and hold a heating pad to my stomach. I've had periods skip before, but now for the past 3 or 4 months, I've had spotting between periods. I get a period basically every 2 weeks now, and they last for 6-7 days."

Ethinyl estradiol / norethindrone "I have read postings on a few web pages, and the effects of this medicine are very inconsistent. I can't understand how wonderful it can be when it does some of the most unpredictable things to us. My periods were coming 23 days apart and lasting exactly 5 days. My whole life, they were 28 days apart and lasting 5 days. I could make bets on my regularity. I'm 45 years old. The doctor prescribed this to me to extend my periods back to 28 days. My period started last Sunday, and I started taking the pill on Sunday. Well, Wednesday came, and my period started getting heavier. Thursday was day 5, I thought it would end... no. So, I started reading the boards this morning... and after reading the postings, I decided not to take it this morning."
