"I've been on Ashlyna for 2 years. You have to give it 6 months for the breakthrough bleeding to stop and for your hormones to level out, that's with any birth control. I still am currently on it and enjoy it very much. I skip the placebo pills, so I don't have a period."

"39 YO with two kids 6 and under. Not planning to have any more kids. Heavy periods with clotting and anemia. Doctor recommended birth control to lighten periods. I also wanted to stop having monthly periods. First week on Jolessa, I had headaches. Three weeks in, headaches stopped. My skin is clearer. No mood swings. I feel happy but was not prone to depression before. I did feel bloated the first two weeks, but that has gotten better by week three, drinking lots of water, exercising, and watching calories. No spotting at all. Not having a period for three months is improving my quality of life! I had lost nearly 20 lbs before the birth control. I’m not gaining-working out vigorously and counting calories, BUT I do feel like I’m hungrier, craving sweets when I normally don’t, and weight loss is slower than before. Overall, I’m loving this birth control, Jolessa. As far as fitness, it will just motivate me to work harder at working out and monitoring what I eat. I recommend giving it a try. Don’t let negative reviews deter you. I let that stop me for years and suffered."

"The first three weeks were terrible, dizzy, moody, brain fog...you name the side effect; I had it. After three weeks, I was ready to give up. I would ask my husband every day what his thoughts were. He knew the yo-yo of emotions my monthly cycle brought, how it affected work, relationships, sleep, and parenting. This has CHANGED MY LIFE! The first twelve weeks (yup, three full months) I spot bled every day. I probably gained a few pounds due to water retention, but that's gone. Sex drive was eliminated; it has since resurfaced. All the side effects are now gone, I'm clear-minded, level-headed, and NO emotional rollercoaster each month. No monthly bloating, mood swings, or feeling like my blood was boiling. I would do it all again. If you are questioning this or any pill, you will want to give it twelve weeks...stinks at times, but your body takes time. I've tried every other pill, IUD, antidepressants, no sugar, no caffeine...etc. I don't get a period anymore."

"I started this birth control because they were out of the Seasonique that I was on. It was only supposed to be temporary until they got that birth control back in stock, but I ended up staying on this one because I’ve had no side effects. The only side effects that I had on Seasonique were large blood clots while bleeding. On Portia, I have not experienced this. I’m surprised by all the negative reviews, but I guess everybody’s body reacts differently to different drugs. Portia is definitely a win for me, though."

"This pill is a miracle. I am 32 and have been on BC pills since age 16 and have tried countless brands, types, and various phasic pills. This is the only pill that doesn't make me insanely anxious, I have not had one pregnancy scare, and it is so mild I hardly know I am on anything at all. This cleared my cystic acne (caused by Falmina, the generic of this brand--- do NOT switch to this, it is NOT the same, no matter what the pharmacy tells you--- filler ingredients make all the difference, ladies!) and my period only lasts 3 days if not less. Low hormones, low effects, awesome pill. 10/10!"

"Wow! Just when I thought I was completely alone! I have been using Norimin for 8 years, and due to Covid, got supplied with Levlen. I have cried and cried due to my severe bloating, which didn't occur previously! Thank God I’m not alone! Hopefully, I can find something else soon because this is driving me insane!"

"I love this medicine! I have never experienced breakthrough bleeding and have been on it for a year and a half now. I had tried everything before this, generic birth control (made me emotionally crazy), the NuvaRing (could never remember to put it back in, and it bothered him), Mirena (the wire bothered him) -- finally found this after all that, and it's all about me -- NO PERIODS! NO CRAMPING. NO MESS. Life, normal... everyday."

"I signed up for Pill Club and was prescribed Vienva. It is my first birth control, so I immediately went online to look up side effects and reviews. After reading, I was scared to death to get my prescription, knowing I can't change it for at least 2-3 months. Reluctantly, I did start taking it, as I did read some good reviews. I'm about to start my second month in about a week. I have yet to notice any major side effects. Maybe a tad bit more emotional and faint cramps here and there, but nothing too crazy. The only weight I gained was before I even started the pack and was my own doing. I know it's still early, but I think it's working well for me. Although I do understand everyone is different and will react differently."

"I am in love with this birth control Alesse! It is the first one I have ever taken, and I went on it because I would get such bad acne all over my cheeks, especially around my period. There was never a time when my skin was clear, and when it was better, it would still have a bunch of scars until it would get horrible again. In the first week, my skin got a little better, there was a little bit of cramping and mood swings, but not too bad. In the second week, it was breaking out (but not nearly as bad as the worst it's been), and then in the 3rd week, almost perfect, just scars to heal up. I'm on just over a month, and my skin is literally perfect, just a couple of scars left to heal, and now they can actually heal because my face isn't going to have another huge breakout the next day anymore!"

"First time ever taking birth control, Vienva, 29-year-old. No breakouts, no weight gain, or mood swings. In the beginning, I did experience a minor headache, but as the months went on, no more headaches. No problems with nausea as well. The only thing I believe my body was still adjusting to the meds because of some brown spotting when skipping placebos, going straight to my next pack, which only happened twice in the first 2 months of using. Other than that, everything seems to be working well for me, yay. Ladies, listen to your body, otherwise, switch to other brands :)"

"I took Sronyx for 3 months. I quickly became very anxious and depressed. For three weeks, I cried every day. I didn't feel like myself. I was very sensitive in general. My drive was pretty much gone. I also gained a slight amount of weight. However, my skin was pretty clear. Immediately after I stopped taking it, I felt a lot better. I'm extremely nervous to take anything new now because of how terrible I felt on this."

"I read reviews on this birth control, Vienva, after it was prescribed to me, and I was concerned already. I went through The Pill Club, and they encouraged me to take it for a short time anyway because everyone has different experiences. Many reviews said that Vienva caused them acne, and this is what I was concerned about. For about the first week of taking the pill, I got bad headaches soon after taking them, but those soon stopped. However, I took them for the recommended 3 months and began to have large, horrible acne. I am used to hormonal acne around my period, but with this birth control, my skin was getting worse and worse. I decided to stop use altogether."

"I have been on Aubra for one month, and I felt that I should give my experience since I was scared to death to take it based on the reviews online. So here it goes: I am a 33-year-old female who was not taking any form of BCP, and I wanted to get on the pill because I had been having really annoying acne lately (not sure why), and also my periods had become heavy and bothersome. Long story short, I decided to get on the pill, and Planned Parenthood prescribed me Aubra. One month later, my acne is completely cleared up, no new breakouts at all, my entire complexion even looks clearer, I have absolutely no side effects WHATSOEVER, and my period is even much lighter than usual! I don't know if I'm lucky or what, but try it out - I am glad I did."

"This was the first birth control I ever went on, and it worked great. No side effects! No child! After a year (March '19), Planned Parenthood gave me Aubra EQ. If this happened to anyone else, I would like to know. I was unaware it was different and took it. Immediately, I had symptoms such as mood swings, cramping, and nausea. I got the worst cramping I’ve ever had. At the end of the month, my period did not come. I have taken many tests, and they say I’m not pregnant, but yet I have not gotten my period. PP says they do not carry Aubra anymore, just Aubra EQ, and according to them, it’s the same. But obviously not."

"I started this BC because my sister was on it and had had no problems. But when I came to this site and saw the reviews, I was terrified! The reviews made me worry that this was going to plunge me back into my depression and hit me in the worst way. But I'm glad to report it's done none of that. Even though I have the usual moodiness, I have no pains throughout the month, no depression uptake, not pregnant, and my period cramps are so much better. I know everyone's different, but here to say this BC isn't bad for everyone."

"I’ve been on Larissia for over two years now. I started taking it when I was 17 because I had horrible periods ever since I started menstruating. I’ve had no side effects of any kind, luckily, because I know most women struggle to find a good birth control for them. My period has stayed regular and consistent (I track it). I actually lost weight when taking it, going from 180 lbs to 140 in about a year. My diet didn’t change, and I didn’t do any extra exercise, I just lost weight. My periods are much more manageable now than they were before I started taking it. Before I started it, I had to miss school every month because I would be so sick and nauseous from the cramps. Now, while I am on it, my cramps can still be pretty bad, usually on the first day of my cycle. I am able to still go to work and do my daily activities with some medication to help the pain."

"I like this medication! I was scared to try it because I read all of the bad reviews. I had been on Ortho Tri-Cyclen-Lo for about 4-5 years prior to trying Orsythia and had no problems, but wanted to switch because of the cost. No acne, no mood swings, no period changes. Well, I thought I'd do people who are considering switching pills a favor and give you hope - you'll probably be fine."

"Very good birth control. I've been with 4 different birth control brands before this one, different progesterone and levels of it as well. I did my research, and this is the birth control I picked, and it's been wonderful. I've been on this birth control for 9 months. No mood swings, hardly nauseous, light period, no weight gain or loss, it's been perfect."

"I'm a first-time user of Lutera and have never taken any type of birth control in my life. So far, I'm on the fourth week of using it and experienced terrible migraine/headache for two days, which made me skip a pill. I managed to get back on track but have not had any other side effects. I'm really just taking it to help my hair grow, it has grown by a couple of inches. Yes! I have fuller breasts and nice facial skin as well. I have also been able to maintain a well-shaped body with daily exercise (no hunger attacks)."

"I have been on Aviane for about a month or so now, and I have really been happy with its results. I have been through 4 other brands of pills, and on those, I became so mean my husband and I were literally on the verge of divorce. I finally found Aviane through my OB/Gyn, and it has 100% changed my mood and behavior. I have not experienced any side effects and would recommend this birth control to anyone who has a problem with hormone imbalance causing significant problems in their life."

"I have been taking Orsythia for about a year and a half, and I have no complaints about it. After reading a lot of the comments, I noticed people were only unsatisfied with it because of pimples and weight gain. Sure, I get an occasional pimple or cramp, but can we look at the bigger picture? It does its job in protecting us from getting pregnant. That's all I have to say."

"Taking this pill was an awful experience. Everything was going fine until right around the time that I started the second month of it, and since then, I have had nasty breakthrough bleeding ever since then! (Not to mention the breast soreness, leg cramps, and depression.) I'm finishing the pill this week, and it hasn't gotten any better or worse. So basically, I've had my period for 8 weeks straight."

"I was scared to take birth control pills because I recently had a tough fight with depression, and I didn't want to go through mood swings during the adjustment period for these pills. However, I also noticed that when I was depressed, I was at my worst the days before my period. I've been taking these for two weeks, and I've noticed no side effects at all. I actually have been feeling better than ever! Of course, this is my body, and everyone else's can react differently. You don't know how you'll react till you try it."

"I am so happy with this pill. I have been on it for around 2 years now, and it has made a huge difference for me. I have probably tried around 5 different types before this, and all came with side effects (acne, mood swings, depression, etc.). The last pill I was on (Microgestin) literally made me insane, I was depressed and crying every day for months. I thought it was just me until someone mentioned it could be my bc. Immediately when I switched, I felt my depression lift and have had no mood swings or depression! My sex drive is even back (it was very dead before). I picked this one specifically and asked for it because it has one of the lowest amounts of estrogen compared to almost any other pill (thus fewer side effects). If anyone is having insurance problems, ask for Amethyst (it is the brand name for Lybrel) because some companies will only pay for brand name or vice versa. So if it’s not free, try switching to generic or brand name! Hope this helped!"

"I'm 18 years old. I started taking the pill about a month ago. At first, due to the sudden change of hormones, I had a horrible breakout of acne on my face, and I was very emotional and bitter at first. But my first period since being on it was much shorter than my usual periods. Normally, my periods last a full week, but this one only lasted about 3-4 days or so. So right away, my period got lighter with tolerable and few cramps, as opposed to my normal constant excruciatingly painful cramps that would sentence me to a day or two on the couch with a hot water bottle and some Aleve. My face has cleared since, and my emotions are back to normal. I definitely recommend this pill!"
