"Wow, this birth control was the worst kind I have ever been on. From my previous experiences, I’ve never actually had a birth control that made me gain weight (although it wasn’t excessive), it was still something I didn’t want to happen. And that’s for someone who eats clean and works out almost every day. Besides this, my emotions were bouncing off the wall. I think by far the worst side effect was the constant breakthrough bleeding, which is why I ultimately decided to change. Do not take this pill, please look for other options."

"Started taking this pill due to the severe cramps I suffer when I do have my period. Started the pill Sunday following the start of my period, and I'm bleeding heavy again with cramps. I felt the nausea and vomiting. I'm not comfortable with the side effects. I'm not a damn guinea pig. Done."

"I came to Ashlyna from Depo, which also gave me horrible side effects. Ashlyna has given me abnormal spotting daily for months. I get killing migraines that last for days, even with medication. I originally gained 20 lbs when I first started taking it. I've been on it for a year, and I'm done. I get horrible mood swings and cramping like I've never had before. I no longer get periods at all, but still the spotting and horrible pain. I have no sex drive whatsoever. I have had 2 bacterial infections while being on it, I never once had one before. This sounded great at first, but it honestly isn't worth it if I have to be in pain all day."

"This birth control made me an emotional wreck. I took it for 2 weeks! The only thing that had changed in my life was taking this birth control. I turned into an immature, sensitive baby. Also a VERY possessive person. I was very moody. My husband was walking on eggshells. The sound of him breathing would set me off. It was like a switch flipped. Anyone in my way, better RUN. I had asked my doctor for the NuvaRing since having it before worked well for me. The pharmacy stated it was 640.!! That is how I came to this birth control. Spent 180 for a 3-month supply of this to end up taking 2 weeks. I know that everyone responds differently to birth control. Just needed to share."

"Originally I was using a different brand, but since getting switched to this, I “spot” bleed all the time. I’m going off birth control after this pack since I'm due to have a period soon anyways. I’ve been bleeding for 3 months straight. I haven’t been sexually active for almost a year. Who needs it with all these side effects?"

"This was the first birth control I ever tried since my periods were never regular. I had very little side effects until halfway through the first pack. I started bleeding pretty heavy for 5 weeks straight with cramps. I thought because my body was getting used to it to just keep taking it and it would get better. Again, on the second pack, almost exactly the same time as the first, I'm bleeding again. I went to the doctor to change it, and now I have to finish this birth control. Most likely, I'll be bleeding all the way through, but instead of taking the sugar pills, I'll be starting the new pill. I'm going to take Vyfemla, which is a higher dose, and see how that goes. Other than the bleeding I've experienced, this was a great birth control. I just need more predictability and regularity in my cycle."

"Absolute worst experience I’ve had with birth control. I switched from Trinessa to Ashlyna because of my horrible cramps, very heavy bleeding, and broken-out skin. I was told that Ashlyna would make it so I’d only get my period every 3 months. I had my period for 6 months straight, no breaks. I was also horribly depressed the entire time I was on this pill and was ALWAYS exhausted, considering how much I was bleeding. I finally returned to my doctor, and she asked if I want to keep giving it a try? After being on the pill from hell for a little over 6 months, I immediately knew the answer was NO."

"The pros for me are that I have not had a cycle since taking Ashlyna. The downside is I have put on a lot of weight and have no sex drive and am very moody. I'm switching because this weight gain is too much for me to bear."

"I have never been a fan of birth control pills. However, due to major cramps, my doctor suggested this method to regulate and ease my period pain. I was prescribed Daisy, but the pharmacy ended up giving me Ashlyna instead. I have the 3-month, lowest dose pills. The first month my period came normal and no pain. But, unfortunately, for the second month, which I am currently under (only 3 pills left), I have been with my period for a month. No major cramps or heavy bleeding, but I have been using panty liners for the entire time. Very light period, but I am tired of bleeding. I feel weaker and swollen. I don't drink water as I should. However, I've noticed I am retaining too much liquid ever since I started these pills. Will give it time to see if it works."

"This medication made me incredibly depressed and down, uninterested in life, depressed, and very anxious. I had no sex drive. My vagina was completely dry. It was an awful experience for me. I had to stop taking it and switch to another generic due to these side effects because I was at the lowest I had ever been."

"I’ve been on Ashlyna for a little over 10 years now. It’s been great. I take it religiously and not once had a pregnancy scare. I have zero side effects; no acne, weight gain, spotting, or bloating. I get my period for 3-4 days every three months. The only complaint is the packaging sucks and has sucked for years. Just have to press the pill through the foil with only your fingernail to make sure you only pop that pill out and not rip the package. Other than that, I will forever recommend this birth control!"

"Yasmin worked great for me for many years, but when I had to take the placebo pills, I would always get painful cystic acne due to hormonal changes, so I decided to go on a birth control that would decrease my periods. I read the negative comments and was really happy because I wasn’t having any of those problems. After 2 weeks on this pill, I went to the ER with horrible chest pains because multiple lobes of both my lungs were full of blood clots. I stayed at the hospital for a couple of days and had a follow-up with a hematologist. After having a ton of tests done, everything came back negative, and they’re certain the blood clots were caused by hormonal pills. I was on Yasmin for almost 10 years and nothing happened to me, but 2 weeks after switching to this pill, I almost died! Now, I’m left with a hospital bill that I can’t pay and having to take blood thinners (which have side effects of their own) for at least 6 months because of this pill. Do not take this pill!"

"I have noticed little to no side effects since being on this birth control pill for over 5 years. Of course, I experienced the usual headaches and occasional breakouts, but there was one side effect that frustrated me the most. I assumed that after being on this pill for 5 years, my body would’ve adjusted to it by now. However, about 2 weeks leading up to my period, I experience heavy spotting every day. It’s very frustrating to me because when this happens, it seems like my period lasts for 3 weeks. I’m very religious about taking my pills every day at the same time, so I think it’s time for a change in my birth control. Other than that, I was very pleased with Ashlyna!"

"On Ashlyna and have had no spotting at all so far, 2 weeks in, but since day 1, I have had side effects of horrible back pain, really bad nausea, and dizzy spells. Doc recommended taking the pill at night before I had even started to help with the nausea, but it doesn't help taking it at 9 pm. I'm not sure if I can keep taking them much longer. I'm going to see if my regular doctor can prescribe an anti-nausea pill or something, as I've heard other girls get such things to take with their birth control. The reason I started taking birth control is to stop my heavy and painful 10-14 day long bad periods! 4 or 5 stars so far. I hope this birth control gets better with time!!"

"I started Ashlyna at the request of my doctor, not for birth control, but to help heavy periods. I couldn't go but 45 minutes at a time -- but only for a couple of days, then light for the next 3-4 days. I am 2 weeks away from finishing one pack, and here is what I know. My skin is a mess, I have had more headaches and some migraines (that were horrible), and have had breakthrough bleeding and the same amount of periods -- that seem to last way longer than they did before. I can't take the headaches... they are awful and I am so very tired all the time. I think at this point I will take the heavy periods -- at least I knew when they were coming instead of having to be prepared every day for several months. And they were over in 5 days... then freedom for the rest of the month. I can't take these hormones. Please check with your doctor before starting these -- I almost didn't after reading the reviews and decided to give them a go, the idea of one period every 4 months was great -- but totally not worth the side effects."

"So I had to switch my pharmacy because the one I had used for years closed, and I had to pick up my birth control, and the pharmacist gave me 'Ashlyna,' which I never took before. I have been taking the same birth control for 5 years, and they have never changed my prescription. I am very regular with taking my pill every morning when I wake up. I started to take it, and I had gotten my period for 3 and 1/2 weeks. Though I am on the pack where I am supposed to get my period one week every 3 months. I called my doctor, and she explained they never changed my prescription, so she wrote a note to my new pharmacy stating I can only take the name brand 'Teva Camrese,' which I have been taking for 5 years. I went to pick up my regular birth control, and it has been 4 days since I started taking it again, and my period is finally gone. The Ashlyna birth control sucks, and it made my acne and mood swings awful. I do not recommend."

"I have been on birth control for about 8 years for heavy bleeding. I also have depression, which is under control with other meds, and I also have multiple sclerosis. I have been on this for a month. I have breakthrough bleeding, increased depression, and significant increased incontinence. As a 26-year-old, peeing your pants fully is more than an embarrassment."

"I started this birth control because I had bad period cramps that would prevent me from going to school. When I went to my doctor, she offered me a few options... the 3-month sounded the most appealing, so I was prescribed Ashlyna. Everything went well for the first month, then halfway through the pack, I started spotting, and this went on for a week straight until it turned into an extremely heavy period to the point where I bled through a super tampon within a few hours. Then it lightened up after about a week, but I was still spotting, and I continued to spot on and off until I got to the placebo pills, which I am taking now. My period is still extremely painful. I'm going to try it for another 3 months and see if the symptoms continue."

"Been on many BC. I have Endometriosis and Adenomyosis. Before I was on Ashlyna, I was on Daysee for 3 years. The lower levels of medication seemed to help but sadly I had to switch to Ashlyna because I started having problems with my previous one. I have to be on some level of hormone control and Ashlyna was prescribed to me since my last one wasn’t working as well. It has helped me with my pain tenfold. Without BC, I wouldn’t be able to function. It’s a lighter BC and helps people who have problems with high estrogen or progesterone. Talk to your doctor before getting on it though!"

"I started using Ashlyna about a month and a half ago to help with my endometriosis and lessen my periods. I have been bleeding for 14 days straight now, a month and a half before I’m supposed to have a period. Severe cramping. The bloating and weight gain are insane. I’ve gained 10 pounds since I’ve started this birth control. I eat healthy and work out, and every time I go to the doctor, I have gained 2 pounds... I wouldn’t recommend this. It makes you feel bloated, gross, and cramps worse."

"Ashlyna, for me, in the beginning was great, but over the 3 months of not getting my period took a toll on my body. I could tell when I was supposed to be getting my period, but obviously, it wouldn't ever come because of there being no sugar pills. My libido had never come back when taking this, and after going off entirely, my anxiety skyrocketed and has been the worst ever since going off. I wish I had never taken this birth control."

"Okay, so at first, I really liked this birth control. Before taking it, I didn’t have a period for 4 months, mind you. When I started my 3rd tray, I started spotting, and I eventually got my period. Then I continued spotting, and as I reached my yellow pills, I got the heaviest period ever. I got a refill, and it is Camrese. I don’t know the effects of that one yet because I’m still on my yellow pills for Ashlyna. But I’m gonna keep an open mind. If my period doesn’t go away, or if I continue to spot, I’m gonna go to the emergency room. I can’t say I love this medication, and I can’t say I hate it either. I don’t like it because it’s really screwing up my cycle. I hope it works itself out."

"I’ve been on this birth control for over 2 years, and it is terrible at this point. After a few months of straight bleeding when I first started, I finally regulated and grew to love this birth control, until 3-4 months ago, I forgot a day or two, and my face has yet to stop breaking out, and now I spot constantly. It’s to the point I’m cramping terribly, and it makes me sick. I have got to get off this!!!!!"

"This birth control is horrible. I was only taking it for 3 weeks, and my period came right back, and it's heavier than it normally is. Like, way heavier, and usually my periods are light. I hate this birth control, I hate it! Not only that, my cramps are way worse too, preventing me from being able to get up for school or work."

"I've been taking this for almost 9 months now after being on a pill where I got my period every month for about 2 years. It worked fine at first, no spotting or weight gain (I think this was due to being on a different pill for so long). I did notice a slightly decreased libido, but it wasn't too bad. My first period on this was TERRIBLE, the next was better but still not as easy as my old periods. It had been worth the slight discomfort for only 5 days every 13 weeks, though. However, this month I've started spotting about two weeks before I'm due for my period. If it doesn't stop, it's just not worth the money for me (my insurance only covers 2 packs a year, so the other six months I have to pay a total of $440). The packaging also isn't the best, but if you rip the months apart, it helps."
