"I was on this birth control, Ashlyna, for close to 3 years. I discontinued use 2 months ago. A couple months after starting this birth control, I started having severe panic attacks where I would blackout daily. My mood swings were insane. My depression was at an all-time low. I was miserable, but I didn’t think a birth control could be causing all this. My periods were painful and made me nauseous, which isn’t normal for me. I didn’t experience spotting, but when I tried to skip over my placebo pills to avoid a period, I still bled. Since I’ve been off, my mood has improved tenfold and my periods aren’t painful or heavy."

"Wow, this birth control was the worst kind I have ever been on. From my previous experiences, I’ve never actually had a birth control that made me gain weight (although it wasn’t excessive), it was still something I didn’t want to happen. And that’s for someone who eats clean and works out almost every day. Besides this, my emotions were bouncing off the wall. I think by far the worst side effect was the constant breakthrough bleeding, which is why I ultimately decided to change. Do not take this pill, please look for other options."

"I came to Ashlyna from Depo, which also gave me horrible side effects. Ashlyna has given me abnormal spotting daily for months. I get killing migraines that last for days, even with medication. I originally gained 20 lbs when I first started taking it. I've been on it for a year, and I'm done. I get horrible mood swings and cramping like I've never had before. I no longer get periods at all, but still the spotting and horrible pain. I have no sex drive whatsoever. I have had 2 bacterial infections while being on it, I never once had one before. This sounded great at first, but it honestly isn't worth it if I have to be in pain all day."

"Originally I was using a different brand, but since getting switched to this, I “spot” bleed all the time. I’m going off birth control after this pack since I'm due to have a period soon anyways. I’ve been bleeding for 3 months straight. I haven’t been sexually active for almost a year. Who needs it with all these side effects?"

"This birth control started off fine, but after a month of being on it, I had awful dark brown discharge that eventually turned into bleeding. I bled for nearly two months and then started my period and had a much heavier flow and major cramps and bloating. I also became more prone to migraines and extreme headaches after drinking any amount of coffee. However, I didn’t gain weight on this pill, nor did I have any nausea problems. When I was on my period while on this pill, I did feel foggy and dizzy at times. My doctor took me off this pill after 3 months."

"I have been taking this since July of this year. I just finished my first pack and started my second. I don't know if it's just coincidence or not, but I haven't liked the side effects I have experienced. 1. Weight gain - overeating. 2. Constant spotting - daily for over a month. 3. More irregular than I was before. 4. I keep getting bacterial infections. I have not had any problems with infections at all until I started taking this."

"So I'll start off by saying that I used to be on Camrese (another generic of Seasonique). I used to get through my second month of pills, and then I would spot for almost the entire third month up until my period. Period weeks were short and sweet, but a downside was every couple of months I would randomly get heavy cramping in the middle of the night. I am on my first pack of Ashlyna, and so far it's been great. I am currently on my period week and only spotted for two days before my placebo week. I do get a little emotional, but it's the holidays too. I should be jumping for joy, but since this is my first pack, I don't know how to feel that I've still only been basically spotting all week. I'll have to see where I'm at after a few more packs, but so far so good."

"I’ve only been taking Ashlyna for about a month and a half. I’ve had a few bouts of extreme dizziness and nausea preventing me from leaving the house (didn’t think it would be wise to drive, nor could I properly socialize). My breasts have gotten increasingly sore, and I think they’ve gotten a little bigger (which at a 32G is quite annoying, but to others perhaps not). If I don’t eat properly and/or don't have a large meal, I get so hungry I get dizzy and nauseous. I’ve gained a couple pounds, but I also haven’t been working out as much. I woke up tonight with an elevated heart rate and feeling nauseous. Like others, I feel overly tired even though I usually make it to bed before 11, but I can barely make it out of bed in the morning at 9 or 10. I originally started this as my periods were getting really bad, I wanted another option to control my acne and peace of mind for sex. I’ll probably keep taking this, but if the nausea and dizziness don’t go away, I might try to switch."

"This is the worst birth control pill ever. I bled for months and lost so much blood. I've had mood swings, depression, and have been miserable! These pills should not be on the market! They will make your life a living hell."

"I know birth control affects everyone differently. And I'm happy for the people who enjoyed this birth control. But I did not. I was placed on this to manage my endometriosis. When I started taking it, the first two weeks were constant crying and shaking from my anxiety skyrocketing. It slowly adjusted but still had panic attacks, and my depression got worse. All of my physical problems went away. But it made my emotional and mental issues MUCH worse. By the 3rd month, I was mostly adjusted and starting to feel like myself again... until I took the pills for my period... Then it started all over again!!! I decided to stop taking them. And my body is still adjusting after almost two months. I would MUCH rather deal with the physical pain."

"This medication made me incredibly depressed and down, uninterested in life, depressed, and very anxious. I had no sex drive. My vagina was completely dry. It was an awful experience for me. I had to stop taking it and switch to another generic due to these side effects because I was at the lowest I had ever been."

"I was on Ashlyna as my first ever birth control. After the first 3 months of adjusting to the hormonal changes, my skin cleared up after battling with cystic acne my entire life since puberty in 5th grade. I was 32 when I started Ashlyna. All of my PMDD symptoms disappeared, my skin cleared up, and my entire mood was overall better on Ashlyna. The only reason I stopped taking it was because I was getting yeast infections every month instead of my period, and even during months I would get my period, I’d also get a yeast infection. I had never had a yeast infection in all the years prior to me taking this BC, so I stopped taking it, and coincidentally, the yeast infections stopped too. I would still be taking this BC if it weren’t for the yeast infections."

"About 7 weeks into my first pack, I started spotting for 2 1/2 weeks, which then turned into a full-on HEAVY period for another week. My doctor said to stay on it, things should level out. During the 7-week placebo pill, nothing happened. Went several more weeks with no period, then a 3-day period. Followed 3 1/2 weeks later with another 8-day period. I've had the worst acne of my adult life with Ashlyna, causing huge, painful pimples under the skin that will not go away. My husband says I am moody. Definitely low libido. I'm going to try one more 13-week pack after I finish this one. If things don't level out, I need to do something different."

"I kept having breakthrough bleeding, but my face did clear up. In the beginning, I had mood swings, suicidal thoughts, and headaches, but I pushed through it. This specific birth control didn't work with my body's chemistry, but keep in mind any birth control is a trial and error. I used to take a 30-day one that was perfect, but I didn't want my period so frequently. So I'll keep trying until I find one that works with my body."

"I am currently on the last week of the 2nd month of the Ashlyna (Seasonique) brand of this. As far as periods go, I haven't had any bleeding, and this is working great for that. However, since I've started this brand, I have gained a ton of weight. I am on other medication for depression, but I've been on that for over a year, so the birth control definitely isn't helping. I would make sure to take into account weight gain this may cause before deciding on this particular brand."

"I have been on the three-month no-period, one week of period form of this medication for approximately 3 weeks. It was prescribed by my doctor to help with the extreme cramps and various symptoms I get during my period in spite of me being a smoker. In the last week or so, I have been noting several worrying side effects, and I am not sure that I will continue this medication. My heart rate is increased from a good, normal range to almost always high (high 80s-125 resting). I wake up at night to swollen, tingly hands and have difficulty sleeping. Tired frequently. Today I had to go to urgent care because of one of the worst pains I've ever had in my stomach area, may or may not be related, but I read something about it on this site."

"I started using Ashlyna about a month and a half ago to help with my endometriosis and lessen my periods. I have been bleeding for 14 days straight now, a month and a half before I’m supposed to have a period. Severe cramping. The bloating and weight gain are insane. I’ve gained 10 pounds since I’ve started this birth control. I eat healthy and work out, and every time I go to the doctor, I have gained 2 pounds... I wouldn’t recommend this. It makes you feel bloated, gross, and cramps worse."

"I have been on Ashlyna since I was 16 to help me with my excessive periods and severe cramps. I am now 18, about to be 19, and it’s the best thing that has happened to me. I got my period at the age of 8, and I used to get my periods for 2 weeks with a heavy flow and cramps that made it impossible to get anything done. At the age of 16, I started the pill and quickly noticed my skin improving, and my anemia iron deficiency went away. I got my period every 3 months with a light flow and very little cramping. My hormones were never out of order, I didn’t gain weight, I didn’t break out, I had 0 side effects other than my skin clearing up, which is a positive. It’s the best thing that’s happened to me, and I recommend any girl who has menstrual issues to try this out."

"I started my first pill the same day when my last period just started (7/30), then continued taking it for 13 days at exactly the same time every day. Then I had to stop it as I just couldn’t stand the nonstop spotting and bleeding! I took this BC with the intention to skip my period as I travel a lot for work. Now I ended up with constantly bleeding!? Today is day 3 after I stopped the pill. It turned from spotting to light/medium flow, which is expected, even though it is just in the middle of my normal cycle. I hope my cycle was not too messed up. Definitely not for me!"

"Almost a year later, and I'm still getting a period despite continuously taking the pill. If I continue taking the pill when my period starts, I will bleed until I stop taking it. I have literally bled for a month continuously multiple times while on this. I will take one more round of it and then give up."

"Yasmin worked great for me for many years, but when I had to take the placebo pills, I would always get painful cystic acne due to hormonal changes, so I decided to go on a birth control that would decrease my periods. I read the negative comments and was really happy because I wasn’t having any of those problems. After 2 weeks on this pill, I went to the ER with horrible chest pains because multiple lobes of both my lungs were full of blood clots. I stayed at the hospital for a couple of days and had a follow-up with a hematologist. After having a ton of tests done, everything came back negative, and they’re certain the blood clots were caused by hormonal pills. I was on Yasmin for almost 10 years and nothing happened to me, but 2 weeks after switching to this pill, I almost died! Now, I’m left with a hospital bill that I can’t pay and having to take blood thinners (which have side effects of their own) for at least 6 months because of this pill. Do not take this pill!"

"I got off this birth control at the beginning of the year, and I just got back on it a month and a half ago. On the 5th week, I got my period, and now it’s the 6th week, and I’m still on my period, and I’m getting a little over having it. This never happened before when I was on it for 3 years. I don’t know if I should just get off the birth control or get something new. I just got back on it one more time so I wouldn’t have my menstrual on vacation."

"I started this birth control in February, and I experienced spotting for about 2 weeks. Then I started to bleed 1.5 months into it and didn’t stop until I started the next pack. This still happens every pack, and I’ve gotten used to it, but I plan on switching not only because of this. Also, after 4 months on it, I started to realize I became very emotional (which I used to never get upset or rarely cry), and I would go through depressive episodes that lasted about a week where I wouldn’t want to leave the house and would just cry for no reason. I also gained 10 lbs since starting this, but this was over quarantine, so not for sure if I can directly say it was the birth control. I get headaches 2-4 times a week, which I used to never get. My boobs grew two sizes. My acne got a little better, but not really. It did lighten my period, which was nice because I used to have the heaviest period where I could only make it 45 mins in an ultra tampon. Overall, I do not recommend this birth control."

"I started Ashlyna at the request of my doctor, not for birth control, but to help heavy periods. I couldn't go but 45 minutes at a time -- but only for a couple of days, then light for the next 3-4 days. I am 2 weeks away from finishing one pack, and here is what I know. My skin is a mess, I have had more headaches and some migraines (that were horrible), and have had breakthrough bleeding and the same amount of periods -- that seem to last way longer than they did before. I can't take the headaches... they are awful and I am so very tired all the time. I think at this point I will take the heavy periods -- at least I knew when they were coming instead of having to be prepared every day for several months. And they were over in 5 days... then freedom for the rest of the month. I can't take these hormones. Please check with your doctor before starting these -- I almost didn't after reading the reviews and decided to give them a go, the idea of one period every 4 months was great -- but totally not worth the side effects."

"I was prescribed Ashlyna birth control pill along with spironolactone (aldosterone blocker) by my dermatologist for cystic acne and to level out my hormone imbalance. The biggest pro of this birth control is my skin- it is literally porcelain, I’ve never seen it so clear. HOWEVER, the hormones are wild. I am definitely more depressed, anxious, fat, and just generally more emotional on this stuff than ever before. I stopped for 2 months this summer just to see the difference after about 2 years of being on it consistently, and yes, I was much happier and more active and even more social, but my skin turned really bad again, so I’m back in my black hole with perfect skin. It’s a love-hate thing. Enter at your own risk."
