Ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel "I used to be on multiple different pills, all of which gave me the WORST anxiety and mood swings I have ever seen. I literally used to be scared of aliens in my closet?! So crazy. However, my doctor switched me to NuvaRing, and oh my goodness, it has been a blessing. I do not have any side effects at all! It works so well with my body, especially since it’s a consistent low hormone dose, I don’t get the hormonal mood swings and ups and downs like I did with a daily pill. I love this birth control and am so glad I switched 6 months ago. Each method works differently for each person, you have to find the one for you. Just be patient, it will happen like it did for me. I love you, NuvaRing!"

Ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel "After reading 107 reviews on the ring and about 100 of them being bad experiences, I was very nervous to try the ring. I decided to still try since I was horrible at remembering the pill, and I have to say I am so happy I gave it a chance. I absolutely love the ring. I cannot feel it at all, I have lost weight from it, I have more energy, no more moodiness, and just all around a happier person. The only side effect that I had, and that only happened the first day, was my face broke out a little. I have always had clear skin, but my first day trying it, my chin broke out, but after a couple of days it cleared up and I have not had a problem since. I would recommend everyone to try it."

Ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel "I have used several pill-form birth controls, and the NuvaRing is my first non-pill method. I really like the fact that it is hassle-free. I always had a hard time remembering to take the pill. Also, unlike the patch, it is not visible. I am the type who likes to have a period each month as an additional reassurance that I am not pregnant, so it is a better option for me than the shot or other period-free methods. The side effects that I have experienced were mostly common-some water weight gain, shorter and lighter menstrual cycles, and some cramping during my cycle. Some new side effects that I do not enjoy are a regular (heavy) vaginal discharge, which is stated as common for the ring. Also, I have random abdominal cramping."

Ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel "I used NuvaRing for 2 years without much problems, but the month I discontinued it, I developed vulvodynia. This is an extremely painful condition that does not have good treatment options. I have become disabled and unable to have children. There are published studies on the effects of hormonal birth control and the risk of vulvodynia. Please be careful and do your research first. I unknowingly took this medication 13 years ago, and my body will never be the same."

Ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel "My month on EluRyng has been one of the worst of my life. Week 1: nausea/vomiting, fatigue, burning/irritation, and yeast infection. Week 2: severe anxiety and mood swings -- sobbing out of nowhere, massive unprompted panic attacks, and starting crazy fights with my partner. Week 3: severe, acute depression and constant really dark thoughts. Completely numb, crying 24/7, couldn't decide if life was worth living. Week 4: all of my other symptoms disappeared overnight as soon as the withdrawal/off week started. I started feeling back to normal within a day or two, so now I'm absolutely sure that my wild emotional symptoms were entirely caused by the ring. I would not recommend the generic to anyone. My mental health deteriorated shockingly fast and I've never feared for my safety the way I did during the third week. Given other people's similar experiences, I'm counting down the days until EluRyng is recalled so no one else has to go through this."

Ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel "I mean, I didn’t get pregnant, so that’s cool and all, but I gained thirty pounds, was suddenly covered in stretch marks, couldn’t bear the idea of sex anymore, and when I did try to have sex, it was immensely painful. Mood swings like crazy; crying one second, laughing the next. Really bad fatigue and paranoia. Migraines 2-3 times a week, body pains, horrible cramps, and it put me on my period for over 6 months! I mean, but I didn’t get pregnant."

Ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel "This was an effective form of birth control because it completely killed my desire to have sex. When I did, it was sometimes painful because I could not get sufficiently lubricated or aroused. It also fell out during sex, but not very often. Otherwise, I experienced no weight gain or hormonal issues."

Ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel "I have never had a great experience with birth control in the 10 or so years I've been using it. I seem especially sensitive to hormones, though some affect me more severely than others. I love the ease of NuvaRing. I often forgot to take my pills, and this completely solved that problem. I am on my third month of using NuvaRing, and here are the side effects that are causing me to consider not using it anymore: moodiness, agitation, strong food cravings, really painful gas, abdominal pain, irritation during sex, fatigue. It feels like month-long PMS. I snap at people, eat Cheetos and fries several times a day (before NuvaRing I never ate chips or fast food), and have constant pain and pressure from gas. I can't take it anymore!"

Ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel "Pros: ease of use, decreased acne, reduced headaches, which was wonderful. Cons: 15 lbs weight gain in 6 months, unprecedented! Reduced sex drive and slight depression. Discharge and yeast infection for the first 2 months, terrible breakthrough bleeding."

Ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel "Love NuvaRing!! Had some side effects such as spotting, cramps, chills the first month, but it all went away on the second ring, and I love not having to think about it. Also, no PMS, no mood swings, and no worries."

Ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel "Wow, I thought I was crazy! Good to know that I'm not the only one who started having issues with the ring after being switched to the generic. I had been on NuvaRing for 5 years and never had any issues. My insurance recently switched me to the generic, and I've been having crazy bloating, fatigue, and headaches. Not at all happy with the new generic brand."

Ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel "I've been on the NuvaRing since 2005, and I love it. No pregnancies, my period shortened from about 7 days to 4 days. I also used to have bad cramps, but this helped a lot. I've tried Ortho Tri-Cyclen (hated it, gained a lot of weight that took many years to take off), Tri-Norinyl (liked this but still had to take a pill every day), Paraguard IUD (hurt for the 1st week then was fine, expelled it after 3 months though). My sex drive did not decrease on NuvaRing. My only complaint is my skin is a little worse, and every once in a while, I have to take it out during sex. Thumbs up from my boyfriend and myself."

Ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel "When I started using it, I thought it was the best contraceptive ever until it almost cost me my life. Since February 2015, I experienced shortness of breath, dry cough, headaches, pain and numbness in my legs, and a sharp pain in my chest when I inhaled. Doctors diagnosed me with asthma because I had it as a child. In the start of April 2015, I was rushed to the emergency room because everything just got worse. I also had a high fever. After several tests, the doctors made the discovery of life-threatening blood clots within my lungs and around my heart (pulmonary embolism). I immediately removed the NuvaRing as this had led to my condition. This has happened to many women and also led to the death of some."

Ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel "My wife recently spent a week in the hospital, including 3 days in neurological ICU because of a blood clot in her brain. She had 17 mini strokes and almost died. Oh, and she's only 25. She doesn't smoke, didn't hit her head, and no family history of blood clots. The neurosurgeon said it was because of the NuvaRing. So please, don't even try it. I don't want anyone to have to go through that."

Ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel "I had commented before, and I also wanted to say that I haven't experienced any mood swings, and I still want to have sex! The pill made me hate sex, but my drive hasn't suffered a bit with the NuvaRing. I love it and highly recommend it."

Ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel "Maybe a day or two after inserting the NuvaRing, I began having sore breasts. They were so sore a bra hurt them, and touching them was out of the question. I also experienced nausea and/or vomiting every day. I wanted NuvaRing for the convenience, but it's not worth the side effects I experienced."

Ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel "Absolutely LOVE IT! With every other birth control I've used, my periods were unpredictable, but they have been almost perfect since I started the NuvaRing. I have gained a few pounds, but that's no big deal, because it beats thinking I am pregnant every month or that I'm going to die from losing so much blood."

Ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel "It's been one week, and I feel EXTREMELY tired and depressed. I really want this to work, so I'll give it a little more time. It's easy to put in, and I don't feel it at all. But I'm sleeping like 12 hours a day and feel like I'm swimming through mud. Also, I've been having random cramps or sharp pains in my abdomen."

Ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel "Horrible! No issues with NuvaRing for years, switched to this because insurance said so. First month wasn't awful.... but second month... non-stop bleeding. Horrid, heavy period like I've never experienced. Two weeks later, still bleeding. I took the ring out. I will never use this again. It is doing something bad to my body. Be careful!"

Ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel "I was on Nuvaring for 8+ years and never had a problem, then was forced to switch to the generic because of my insurance. Within the first couple of days of having it in, I started having intense back pain and was so nauseous I could barely go for a walk outside. I finally took it out and got better, but now I'm off birth control and having problems with my moods and cramping. Really sucks that the FDA approved this generic that clearly is dangerous, and now I can't afford something that was working great for me."

Ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel "NuvaRing is effective in pregnancy prevention. However, the side effects were bad. The first month was fine, with only one bad side effect (diarrhea), and I wasn't too sure if it was even from my birth control that month. It was never listed as a side effect. When I got my period, it was light and lasted only about 2 1/2 days. After 2-3 months, side effects started to kick in: more abdominal cramps, normal discharge, extreme bloating very often, nausea, and headaches. Along with these, I became extremely irritable/very grumpy, had a major loss in appetite, and when I did eat, the diarrhea would hit (severely). Eventually, I had horrible back pain and became very depressed, which negatively impacted my life."

"The switch to this generic version has been a nightmare. I’m moody, lay in bed with the worst cramps, break out worse now than when I was a teenager (I’m 43). It’s terrible that insurance can dictate this because it’s been absolutely miserable in addition to this COVID quarantine. I got changed to generic in March, and that’s when all the issues began. I’ve been on the NuvaRing for over 10 years, and I can honestly say this has been a terrible transition, and I’m so disappointed that insurance companies can dictate a medication without notice."

Ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel "I had a horrible experience with NuvaRing. I’ll admit it was nice not having to worry about taking a pill every day, but I experienced awful side effects. It caused me to become extremely depressed and anxious and lowered my libido. My doctor told me I wouldn’t be able to feel it during intercourse, but I could, and it was so uncomfortable-sometimes even painful. If needed, you can take it out for up to 3 hours, but it’s inconvenient to have to do that. I also had severe period cramps while using this. I personally do not recommend NuvaRing."

Ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel "I was on the NuvaRing for 4 years, and I only experienced swollen breasts. It went away after 3 months. I had no problems. In March 2020, I was switched to the generic because of my insurance. Within 2 weeks, I was needing antidepressants because I didn’t feel right. I was having yeast infections like crazy, and the fluconazole was not working (this is noted as a side effect). By April, I was having outbursts of anger, feeling alone all the time, anxious, my blood pressure was out of control because of the anxiety, I was arguing with everyone, libido was gone, and I was just flat out upset about everything. Now it is May, I feel so depressed and question life every day. I’m not motivated to do anything. I’m not happy about anything. I will cry about everything. I feel so alone. Today, we figured out it was the generic causing this. I have all the side effects listed on their website. Affect liability is a serious side effect of this ring. My mental health and, quite frankly, life is on the line."

Ethinyl estradiol / etonogestrel "I was on this for 3 months (I usually have NuvaRing and they didn’t tell me they changed it), but I've had the worst 3 months of my life. I’ve gained weight, gotten stretch marks everywhere even though my weight gain wasn’t significant, I’ve had horrible headaches, missed my period all 3 months. I’ve been so anxious and moody, tired all the time. The other night I started having horrible heart palpitations, and I ended up having a panic attack and throwing up. I felt like my heart was going to explode. I thought I was insane, so I googled the birth control because there was no other cause, and I read all these, and I took my ring out a week early. I’m already starting to feel more normal. This shouldn’t be legal. I went and bought the NuvaRing out of pocket the other day for $177. I’m lucky I can afford it, it’s ridiculous that insurance will put women through this to save a couple bucks."
