Lexapro (escitalopram) for Anxiety "The first 3-4 weeks are tough...I knew it would take some time but I felt a bit like a zombie or a sloth those first few weeks. My anxiety fuelled me before and I suddenly had an “I don’t care” attitude about everything. About week 3, I suddenly felt “CLEAR”. I was able to do things like go into my laundry room and do one load of laundry without feeling overwhelmed by the other 5 loads that needed to be done. My anxiety was an all or nothing situation- I either could do it all at one time or could NEVER get it done in my brain. Lexapro allowed me to realize that it’s ok to do part of a task and finish it later- and helped me remember to finish it later. I feel so much better!!!"

Lexapro (escitalopram) for Depression "I suffered from constant level of anxiety since adolescence. In addition, my family life in childhood was a little turbulent. Later in life, after starting my own family and working hard in my career, depression slowly creeped in. I felt a constant feeling of despair. This went on for years as I still functioned to provide for my family. I slowly stopped doing the things I loved dearly such as fishing. I then realized through steady therapy and meditation for over a year that I still couldnt get rid of the despair feeling in my gut. This mental and physical feeling could not be eliminated. This result proved to me that what I was experiencing was not from my childhood, but it was my DNA. I was an anxious person with an increasing depression problem my entire life. I decided that I should try Lexapro. My doctor prescribed 5mg. I've been on the 5mg for 6 weeks. I actually started to feel true happiness again. I started fishing again."

Lexapro (escitalopram) for Generalized Anxiety Disorder "I’ve been diagnosed with GAD since I was 16. I first tried sertraline and that worked for me until I was 18 when I stopped taking it. Once my anxiety relapsed again a year later, sertraline didn’t work for me anymore. I then switched to Wellbutrin but that didn’t work for me after 6 months of waiting. I honestly thought I would never recover from my anxiety… until I tried lexapro!!! The very first week, I felt happier, I had more energy, I was talking more, I even told others that it felt like it was harder to be sad or to get stuck in that dark place when I’m anxious. Fast forward to 1 month on the drug, I haven’t even felt anxious for a moment. I feel like my old self!!! I have energy, I want to go out and do things, I just feel happy. I’m so glad I tried this drug. I was in a dark place struggling with my anxiety where I told myself I’d rather not live than to “survive” each day struggling with my anxiety…. If you’re reading this, DONT GIVE UP!!!"

Lexapro (escitalopram) for Anxiety "I waited 2 months to write this because I was convinced it wouldn't work for me. Lexapro WORKS. Stick it out before giving up. I got much worse before I got better. I started at 10 mg and am now at 20 mg. In the beginning, my anxiety and obsessive thoughts got a lot worse, and when I increased my dose it spiked up again. But it finally passed and the difference is huge. I feel like me again, but me without crippling anxiety and constant obsessive thoughts. My periods do make it worse. My side effects of dry mouth, constipation, sleeplessness, heavy sweating all are gone now. And NO sexual issues for me. Oh, and don't be scared of the generic - that's what I take. Hang in there and give it time!"

Lexapro (escitalopram) for Depression "I wasn't severely depressed but I was always CRAZY sensitive, flipped out and cried at the smallest things, had pretty bad anxiety for no reason and would think negative thoughts over and over until I couldn't sit with myself. I finally decided to see a psychologist who recommended I have a psychiatric evaluation- in which they prescribed Lexapro. They started me on 10mg for two weeks and bumped me up to 20mg, which I have been taking for the last 2 months. I can't even express the immense change I experienced. I have never felt so content in my life. It never changed my personality in a drastic way, but I feel very confident, I can brush things off easily, I don't feel stuck in life, I can actually have fun. I LOVE this medicine."

Lexapro (escitalopram) for Generalized Anxiety Disorder "Like most of you, I was in the exact same position. Scared to death to start taking medications. I would spend HOURS scrolling and scrolling through Reddit and other forums trying to absorb as much information as possible. Now that the Lexapro has completely kicked in, I will never go off of it! This medication quite literally saved my life. For MONTHS, I was in such a downward spiral, and I was so sure I could never get out of it. My anxiety and depression began affecting everyone around me. I knew that I needed to take the leap, and I'm so glad that I did! I took 5 mg for about 6 weeks and bumped up to 10 mg, which has helped immensely. The side effects (mostly nausea and no appetite) only lasted about 1 week, and I've had none since then. If you are torn, just do it! This medication exists for a reason. You'll never know unless you try!"

Lexapro (escitalopram) for Anxiety "I never had an issue with anxiety until I turned 26. It was like a switch went off in my head and I had a panic attack that ended up with me in the ER. I had no idea what was happening to me. I didn't want to go on medication because I was ashamed that I couldn't cope by myself. Eventually I broke down and decided I was going to lose my job, house, and life if I didn't get some help. The first few weeks of Lexapro were horrible, but listen to me when I say to stick with it. I had every side effect in the book and felt like I had the flu for three weeks. I am now on week 10 and have never felt better. I finally feel like my old self again and I can honestly say that this medicine saved me! I pray for everyone suffering from this disease. Know that you WILL get better. God speed my friends."

Lexapro (escitalopram) for Anxiety "Hang in there! I am a woman in my mid-fifties who has developed paralyzing anxiety over the last few years. It got to the point this spring where I couldn't go to work. My doctor prescribed Lexapro. I started at 10 mg, and he increased it to 20 mg after the first week. I had never taken any antidepressants before. It took time -- but it does work. Slow improvement. I am on week 9, and I finally feel like my old self. It is so difficult to think you will ever feel better. I know. But, it will get better! It may take time, but hang in there. The Lexapro has made a tremendous difference in the life. I hope it does for you as well."

Lexapro (escitalopram) for Depression "Been off and on Lexapro for 4 years now. I dread having to go back on it as the side effects make me feel lousy - headaches, nausea, jittery, insomnia, lightheaded and anxious. After a week though I feel back to normal and my energy and love for life returns. Being a person who prefers not to take medication I know that sometimes you can fight too long before you need a helping hand - Lexapro helped me. If you do get side effects at the beginning I advise you to go with the flow, understand that it's the medication working & think positive - take care to you all."

Lexapro (escitalopram) for Anxiety "Lexapro changed my life for sure! My family has a history of anxiety so it was not a surprise when I started having severe anxiety and panic attacks. That warm, flush, buzzing feeling that overtakes your body and your mind immediately thinks you’re going to die or that you're sick. Your heart is racing and feels like it’s going to jump out of your chest and your head is spinning. It’s a feeling I don’t wish on anyone and it was starting to control my life. Once I started lexapro I almost immediately noticed positive results. It took about 6 weeks to really notice significant changes and about a year before I would say I was 100% myself. But it very quickly made my life manageable and now I can’t imagine my life without it! I still get breakthroughs now and then where I get a bout of anxiety but it’s usually short lived and manageable. If you have just started lexapro hang in there!"

Lexapro (escitalopram) for Anxiety "Taking Lexapro was the best decision I've ever made!! I've struggled with anxiety and depression since I was a kid. I had never taken any medications for it until I was 24. The anxiety had taken over my life, I could barely go to work and I was up for most of my nights because my mind would be going 100 miles an hour and I couldn't get my mind to stop racing. I had a lot of social anxiety. Every single little thing would seem like such a huge task or issue. I felt completely exhausted all the time, all I wanted to do was sleep. After about 4 months of being it Lexapro I can finally say I am the happiest I've ever been! I've even started college which is something I thought I would never have the courage to do."

Lexapro (escitalopram) for Depression "Lexapro has changed my life. I was reluctant to try a drug because in the past Zoloft and Paxil gave me headaches and made me feel foggy. I confess lexapro made me feel that way for the first two weeks, and then it was like I took sunglasses off and saw the world more clearly. It’s like I was living in a fog before. I have way more energy, feel happier and think more clearly. My only regret was not starting this sooner."

Lexapro (escitalopram) for Generalized Anxiety Disorder "If you have anxiety or depression and are holding off on going on medication because you’re unsure about the side effects, or perhaps worried about being on it for life, please keep an open mind. I dealt with both from mid 20s until I started Lexapro in my mid 40s. Those 20 years were really hard, and didn’t need to be. I’ve been on Lexapro for 4 years now and it has changed my life, basically neutralising anxiety and depression with almost no side effects. Every aspect of life - work, family etc - has improved. Wish I’d discovered it much earlier …."

Lexapro (escitalopram) for Depression "Lexapro really did save my life. Have been on it for ten years on 20mg. About 6 months ago i decided with my doctor to wean of it over a space of about 3 months. I had been off it for 2 months and was feeling fantastic. Well, 3 weeks ago I crashed and all the old depressive symptoms and anxiety are back. Doctor put me back on 10mg for the first week then 15mg. It has been nearly 3 weeks back on medication and the roller coaster ride of emotions is draining. I know it will kick in after about 4 - 6 weeks and now realize I need to be on this drug for the rest of my life. It has saved me before and will save me again. Highly recommend. 10/10"

Lexapro (escitalopram) for Generalized Anxiety Disorder "I have struggled with anxiety for my whole life but in the past 5 years it has gotten uncontrollable & I was crying every single day. I didn’t feel like me & felt so lost. I am 22 & in nursing school so there is a lot of pressure but this has been something I’ve wanted & knew I could achieve, but couldn’t do it with my anxiety. I was VERY skeptical about taking anything & have tried every alternative I could think of but I just couldn’t quite get there. I have been taking Lexapro 10 mg for over a month now & it has made my life 100x better. I haven’t cried once or felt extremely overwhelmed the entire time. The only side effects I experienced were sweating, dry mouth, & a slight headache. These have all subsided after the first week. This drug has made me feel like me again & I didn’t know if I would get here but I’m so glad I am. Don’t let the reviews scare you into not trying a medicine, it can help you if you let it. Give it time & push through. It’s so worth it."

I lived with anxiety since I was 16 and this is by far the best medication I have been on. I had no side effects. Very happy with this medication!"

Lexapro (escitalopram) for Generalized Anxiety Disorder "First and foremost, like so many others on here--Lexapro saved my life. I was not necessarily suicidal, but litterally, had no life and was scared all the time. For the most part no one knew what I was dealing with, I was a highly respected professional who somehow managed to keep it to herself. I would sneak off to bathrooms all the time to go in a stall and calm down, if no one was in there, I would indulge on laying on the cold tile floor to just try and cool myself off. I stopped going to movies, on dates, church, anything where I felt trapped. I was not afraid of flying, I was afraid of when the time between take off and when the captain turned off the seat belt sign. This medicine gave ME back, 5 years strong. "

Lexapro (escitalopram) for Anxiety "(Male/24) Initially lexapro made my anxiety worse, quite significantly. I experienced both anxiety & panic attacks at a greater frequency compared to prior to starting. Despite this, I have continued to take the medication with the hope that this side effect would lessen, despite most of my thoughts begging me to stop this medication. After about 12 days, I felt my body adjusting to the dosage. The last two days I have felt really great, no anxiety or racing heart rate (another initial side effect), no panic attacks and improved mood and enjoyment in things. I wanted to share just in case others are experiencing initial worsening anxiety and are unsure if this improves over time. Although my one experience is anecdotal, I am glad I stuck with it. I experienced headaches, nausea, jitteriness and trouble sleeping the first week as well, those too have gone away. My appetite has improved, and have had no complication with sexual dysfunction. I hope this helps"

For Obsessive Compulsive Disorder "I have had horrible intrusive thoughts and memories and random guilt for silly things for most of my life. When I turned 22 it began to spiral out of control and at 23 I was a complete mess of OCD, depression, and anxiety. I felt terrified of everything. I found a psych who prescribed 10mg escitalopram. After 2 weeks of getting A LOT WORSE, I felt ok and at the 5-8 week mark I began to feel better. Now I feel great. We are still playing with dosage(15mg now) but my life is completely different. I feel “normal” and don’t have random anxiety or guilt. The intrusive thoughts sometimes come but I’m able to let them pass. I did gain 12 lbs...5’6 and was 128lbs before and now 139lbs. I didn’t eat much before and now I’m exercising and eating normally. Plus I’m not overweight so I don’t mind it. My sex drive is WAY better than before. I can actually have sex without intrusive thoughts or images. I recommend BEING PATIENt. It gets worse before it gets better so DON’T GIVE UP!"

Lexapro (escitalopram) for Anxiety "I have been on Lexapro 10mg 3x- most recently was Jan-May and then weaned myself off (under doctors supervision) over 6 weeks and had no problems with withdrawal. I have recently started back because of recent stress in my life (nasty divorce) which left me worrying constantly, debilitating anxiety, unable to sleep and/or eat. For me it’s the panic that’s horrible. So I started back on Lexapro 10mg 3 weeks ago today. The first 2 weeks were tough....it seemed to take longer to kick in this time and I actually referred to this site a dozen times to reassure myself that it would indeed start to work and it did! I did have the increased anxiety, loss of appetite (lost 10lbs in 2 weeks), the “internal shakes”, morning dread and insomnia for the first 2 weeks. I would say around day 10-14 I started to feel the meds taking the edge off and by day 18 I had almost no anxiety at all. Literally none. It’s so worth the wait if you can just hang in there through the first few weeks."

Lexapro (escitalopram) for Generalized Anxiety Disorder "I am 60 years old and have suffered from anxiety since I was 23 years old. Many times the panic attacks were quite severe. I had trouble holding down a job and there were times I couldn't drive and was terrified of being alone. I've tried so many anti anxiety drugs but I expected them to work right away. I've done years of counseling. In October of 2020 my doctor put me on 5mg of Lexapro.I knew what side effects to expect and they lasted almost 3 weeks before I started to notice that it was working. In January I started 10mg. I have not had an anxiety attack since I've been taking Lexapro. It gave me my life back. I feel normal for the first time in many years."

Lexapro (escitalopram) for Generalized Anxiety Disorder "I've had anxiety problems since I was about 12 and was put on Lexapro when I was 18 years old. I didn’t feel much difference that time and stopped after about a month because my parents found out I was on it and shamed me into stopping. I’m now 19 and my anxiety has gotten much worse, I disassociate often and I’m depressed. I got put back on it and I’m on day 4. I’m having a really bad time on it. I’m extremely anxious right now, it’s made me dizzy and it’s given me stomach problems. I did notice an improvement in my sleeping right away which has been amazing. Reading the comments that say that you just have to wait it out are helping a lot, it’s making me motivated to continue and it’s reminding me that this feeling isn’t going to last. I hope in a few months things are better."

Lexapro (escitalopram) for Generalized Anxiety Disorder "I'm only on day 5 of a 10mg dosage and the first 4 days have been grueling. Sweaty hands and feet, constipation, upset stomach, severe insomnia, and major anxiety are some of the things I've been dealing with so far. The reviews that I've read here have given me the courage to continue to power through the early stages. I have faith that my persistence will pay off. I will come back with an update once I give it more time."
