For Type 2 Diabetes "I've been with Trulicity for 2 months now, and I have been getting severe abdominal pains, cramps, and gas, but the last weeks was a disaster! I have been vomiting and had diarrhea constantly! I ended up in a hospital for dehydration. Will never take Trulicity again!"

For Type 2 Diabetes "I am a 60-year-old female who also takes Lantus and Metformin. I started the 1.5 dose of Trulicity about a month ago. I had mild gastrointestinal symptoms at first: flatulence, heartburn, and burps that smell like sulfur. About 10 days ago, the side effects got much worse: abdominal cramping, explosive diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting. I had to call in sick to work twice in the last week. Sometimes I feel better, but then the symptoms hit out of nowhere. I have absolutely NO appetite and have to force myself to eat. Feels like food poisoning. This morning I had to go to the ER. They did tests, and the doc said it was due to the Trulicity and I should stop taking it. I used to be on Victoza, which worked fine, but the insurance company won't pay for it."

For Type 2 Diabetes "I started this 4 weeks ago. I have lost weight, and sugars are down. The side effects are awful and almost unbearable. I hate it. I called the doctor and told her I have indigestion from hell, gas, stomach bloating, explosive diarrhea, nausea. She said to hang in there, it will get better. I took the last shot today and am already feeling the side effects. I want to know why the hell a company would make medicine like this. I will never take this again. Very displeased."

For Type 2 Diabetes "Let me start off by saying that I have been very noncompliant with my diabetes medications for years. Metformin was a bad experience. Glipizide made me hungry all the time. Byetta injections were the most horrific experience I ever had, I had horrible gas and abdominal cramping. I gave up on all diabetic medications and accepted that I was just going to eventually die from it. My A1C was always over 10. But a doctor put me on Farxiga, which is amazing. No side effects for me at all and only once a day, but my A1C still needed help, so he put me on Trulicity, and surprisingly the only side effect has been random nausea, especially after eating badly. So now I'm on Trulicity, Farxiga, and Actos, and so far so good! I'm actually looking forward to my next labs."

For Type 2 Diabetes "So happy to read everyone's comments! Due to state insurance, I had to be taken off Victoza, which worked great and made me feel great, and I was swapped onto nasty Trulicity! I had gas, bloating, diarrhea, and felt agitated and lethargic, fatigue! Horrible! My numbers were out the roof to 269!"

For Type 2 Diabetes "I started this a week ago and have been so sick. The nausea is the worst, but I have also had flatulence, belching, and some diarrhea. I also keep breaking out in a cold sweat. I'm due for another dose tomorrow, and I'm a little scared to take it."

For Type 2 Diabetes "I began this medicine on Thursday. I was fine until Saturday. Upset stomach, only getting worse after that. I have been going to the bathroom off and on all night and all day Sunday. Horrible cramping and gas. I have lost a total of 4 pounds from this in the last few days. I am very weak. My blood sugars have come down, but I have only eaten bananas and applesauce, and some diet ice cream seems to soothe my stomach temporarily. I am beyond miserable. I do not recommend this."

For Type 2 Diabetes "Very easy to use, minor side effects of diarrhea and gas, but my blood sugars have stabilized. Also taking Synjardy. I’ve been on both for going on a month and a half. My out-of-pocket cost is high because of my deductible, but I have no complaints about this medication."

For Type 2 Diabetes "I am borderline diabetic. I didn't know that Trulicity needed to be refrigerated, which the manufacturer should print in bold letters on the box. Anyhow, after calling the pharmacist, he told me it was okay to take. I didn't feel any side effects until the second day. I woke up in the middle of the night and could not go back to sleep, and then the rest of the day felt lethargic. The next few days, I felt queasy and had no appetite. It seems like the symptoms come in the morning. I experienced gas pain that felt like I'd been kicked in my stomach. Today is day five, and I feel like I have the flu with mild fever (body aches, headache, etc.). I am still queasy, and I don't want to eat except saltine crackers. I am disappointed because I spent money on this, and I have three more injections, which I am not going to take. I can understand maybe a day or even two for side effects, but not all week. How is one supposed to function and go to work?"

For Cardiovascular Risk Reduction "I've been on Trulicity for 6 weeks. Two weeks on 0.75 mg and three weeks on 1.50 mg. I've lost around 15 lbs. My morning sugars are around 88-110. That's just amazing. I'm also not hungry. I keep forgetting to cut my portions down, but after a few bites, I'm done. I have had some gastro issues, but I'm getting used to them and they're calming down. Mostly the disgusting 'eggy' burps after sitting or standing from a lying position and excess gas. Eating earlier, along with not having cravings to eat later in the day, really helps with both. I do notice that the drug starts to wear off a day or two before my next injection; my appetite increases, my AM sugars are a little higher, and the gastro issues start hitting me. Out of three boxes, I haven't had any pen failure; it's so easy to use, and so far the gastro issues do not outweigh the amazing benefits. I'll know in a month how low I've gotten my A1C, but I already know it's going to be incredible."

For Cardiovascular Risk Reduction "I injected one time about 5 days ago, the first night was okay, and the first day was okay. The second day, I had horrible nausea, the third day, horrible sharp stomach pains, can't eat anything without having sharp pains, fourth day, uncontrollable diarrhea (Imodium doesn't work) along with sharp stomach pains that feel so bad. Waking up at night to horrible gas and sulfur-smelling burps, fifth day, again with watery diarrhea, almost went to the hospital, can't eat or drink, feel dehydrated and depressed."

For Type 2 Diabetes "Started taking Trulicity 8 weeks ago. Starting out, there were a few side effects such as no appetite for food, pain in my back between my shoulder blades, gas, GERD out of this world, and could not use the bathroom. I’ve been told Trulicity slows down the digestion of your food. After 8 weeks, I am having muscle spasms due to indigestion and all the other things associated with Trulicity affecting my digestive system. In other words, I eat for days and never go to the bathroom. Food won’t move for days, stuck inside of me! Now that doesn’t sound healthy. My muscle spasms are so severe I have had to stop taking it. I hope this all goes away and hasn’t affected my pancreas, liver, or digestive system. Going back to glipizide and metformin."

For Type 2 Diabetes "My fasting blood sugar was 199 on metformin, so I started Trulicity 5 weeks ago, and my sugars have come down some but are still 166 fasting. Is it worth all the side effects that I am now experiencing? I am not sure. The gas pains in my stomach are horrible, and I developed headaches and went to the doctor, and my blood pressure has skyrocketed to 200/110. I am now on a third blood pressure medication. My legs are aching, and I have heartburn every day. Have not lost any weight."

For Type 2 Diabetes "59 yo female tried Trulicity for 3 months. I've had gastroparesis and irritable bowel/bladder syndrome since 23 yo. Type 2 diabetes controlled by diet and supplements since 32 yo. Why would anyone with diabetes that causes gastroparesis want a drug to further slow their stomach from emptying!?! Is that the reason for the supposed weight loss - you feel full longer, so not hungry longer!?! Wrong and stupid! Caused extreme nausea, bloating, gas, vomiting, and diarrhea/constipation all in the same day! Plus - dehydration to add kidney/bladder pain, infections, and stones! Dear Lord, I prayed I'd make it through each day I was so tired, sleepy, and hurting! FYI, I've had chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia since I was 15 yo after my entire high school caught mononucleosis! Lastly, a migraine headache that overcame my migraine med I've taken since 2001! Please don't try this drug! You've been warned! PS my cholesterol levels all went up and one liver enzyme too all while on low/no carbs."

For Type 2 Diabetes "7 weeks on Trulicity, and I had side effects of a bit of nausea and wind, but all okay until last week. Since then, I have pain in the lower left abdomen, my doctor said not Trulicity must be a groin strain (?). How did I manage that without knowing? Then, 3 days ago, severe diarrhea, acid reflux, burps that stink, like can clear a room of people, and this has lasted all 3 days. Spoke to another doctor, same answer, not Trulicity must be something you ate, gave me tablets to stop diarrhea and a proton pump inhibitor to stop heartburn. So now, 3 extra drugs just to get my sugars down a bit. No thanks, coming off Trulicity will find other ways to reduce sugar or just accept higher sugar readings. Wonder why doctors will not accept it is side effects? In the UK, so no cost to me, free on NHS."

For Type 2 Diabetes "My blood glucose was in the high 300s for about 3 weeks, and my A1c was 13. My sight went blurry as well. I went to my Dr. He put me on 2000 mg of Metformin a day. The worst stomach flu I have ever had is the only comparison! I was so sick I couldn't leave my house for fear of not getting to a bathroom in time! After 4 weeks, he took me off that and went to 0.75 Trulicity, and I freaking love it. I take mine first thing in the AM with nothing on my stomach, followed by water. I had some nausea, gas, and a little sour stomach the day I take the injection. It usually subsides that day, and I am good the rest of the week unless I eat greasy or super rich. My hunger and cravings are almost nonexistent. I have consistently lost 2 lbs a week. My sugars stay in the low 100s and my A1c is a 6! I have been on this dose for 6 weeks, and now I have just gone up to the next dose, and I am so very happy with it! Good luck, all."

For Cardiovascular Risk Reduction "Worst experience ever! Straightaway terrible nausea, bloating, and gas/burping. Complete loss of appetite - including food smell sensitivity. Then the vomiting started. Daily, repeatedly. Woke up through the night vomit. Ended up in the hospital. Tested for pancreatitis. Day 7 and still forcing myself to eat. Can barely tolerate anything. Stomach bloated. Brain fog. Will not continue."

For Type 2 Diabetes "The worst! Been on it for over two months. I take it on Friday. Fridays, I am so sick, by Sunday, I’m still sick. Monday is better. Wednesday, I swear every muscle in my body is very painful. I have crippling leg and foot pain. My heart races like a race car. I passed out once. Horrible stomach pains, gas, belching loud and hard, and bloating. I’m so dehydrated I went to the ER more than once, and they stuck me five times but still could not start an IV. I wore a heart monitor, had a Doppler done on my legs for blood clots, chest X-rays and EKG for chest pain and to rule out heart attack. Did a 24-hour urine test, provided stool samples due to so much diarrhea, but everything checked out fine, and the doctor concluded it was the Trulicity. I only started it because the insurance company stopped covering Victoza 1/1/18. My A1c was 12.75%. I started Victoza, and it went down to 8.6%. I have not been tested since I started Trulicity, but this is my last week on it, hopefully, my doctor can get Victoza authorized!"

For Type 2 Diabetes "Trulicity was given to me in 2020 to stabilize my blood sugar ups and downs. I have hyperglycemia, so it worked well at first. After taking the .75 for 3 months, it helped lower A1C back to 5.0. I know everyone is different with side effects, but she has upped my dose to 1.5, and the pain, gas buildup, was not good. My acid reflux medication stopped working as well, and I had sores in my mouth, rash, fatigue, cough, and sleeplessness."

For Type 2 Diabetes "A1C 11.6, so the doctor prescribed Trulicity 1.5 and Farxiga 5mg. Blood sugars went down over two months to an A1C of 8.6. An insurance change disallowed Trulicity. When a job change brought new insurance, I was able to start Trulicity again. That is when the problems started. Six days after the first injection, gastrointestinal problems (about a 4 on a scale of 10); took the next injection. After six days, the gastrointestinal problems reached about a 5. I was hesitant to take it again, but blood sugars were getting much better, so I did. After six days, very long, loud, vile-tasting belching imaginable, explosive liquid diarrhea, extreme abdominal pain, flatulence, heart palpitations, cold sweat, and the feeling I would pass out. Ended up in the ER. Admitted with ischemic colitis. I will never take this medication again. Have had no problems since quitting Trulicity. Blood sugars are creeping up again, but it is not worth dying over. Will be seeing an endocrinologist tomorrow."
