"When I was 17, I was scared to start on birth control. My doctor had suggested Yasmin to me. I was glad I did start it. I had no problems. I never got sick from it, gained any weight, had any pains, etc. Even every time I stopped taking it, there were no problems. The birth control was very effective even if I missed a few days. My face was also clear of acne. No changes in sex drive. I am very sad I cannot go back on it because it is no longer free with my health care."

"I've been taking Yaz for 4 months now, I'm 16 years old. Few complaints: at the beginning, this pill caused me horrible nausea and breast pain, but that could be due to changing to Yasmin from Microgynon 30. Also, I experienced spells of depressive moods, which have now cleared up, but I often experience mood swings! On a positive note, my skin has cleared up massively and I have maintained, if not lost, weight. Great pill."

"I used Yasmin for 5 years after reacting awfully to a cheaper brand. I was on it from the age of 16 to 21 years and never had an issue. On the previous brand, I had awful mood swings. On Yasmin, I felt like myself again, and it cleared up my skin wonderfully. I went off birth control because I wanted to experience what my mood would be like without any medications and to experience my true cycle again. I experienced some hair loss for the first few months, but only some thinning and some pimples have returned (everybody has to deal with some at one point, right?). My hair is back to its full glory now (6 months later) as well as my normal cycle, with a bit more PMS than on the pill, but manageable. Reflecting back, my mood on Yasmin was altered slightly. I feel like it stabilized my ups and downs, which means I didn't experience my full ups. I am feeling mentally and physically healthy as well as feeling empowered to have taken control of my well-being."

"I was on this pill for around a year, and I can’t believe I put up with it for that long. My appetite would change constantly. Sometimes I would eat everything, and sometimes I couldn’t eat without feeling nauseous. I’ve tried this pill and Tricyclen, this one made me gain so much more weight. I was on both for around a year. Finally, the mood swings. I would cry every single day for no reason. Even if something inconvenient happened, I’d start crying. And I felt like I couldn’t control it. Out of nowhere, the tears would start falling. It made everyone around me annoyed. It helped my acne for a bit, but then I started getting a few pimples again after a while. I do not recommend this one!"

"Before taking Yasmin, I was taking Ortho Tri-Cyclen, and didn't realize what a nightmare that BC was until I actually switched. I'm in such a good mood on Yasmin (especially right before my period) compared to how I was on Ortho Tri-Cyclen. I have also lost 30 pounds since I got on this medication, but I am on Wellbutrin, which is known for weight loss, and I also lift heavy weights six days a week and really changed up my diet after my first year of college. I put on a lot of weight during my freshman year (about 20 pounds), and after switching to this, I weigh less than I ever did in high school!! But Yasmin did NOT make me gain weight. I really recommend this BC, it helped me a lot, and I feel back to my normal self since being on it."

"I have been taking Yaz for 4 years. I haven't gained any weight and no acne. But my sex drive has been completely gone. I just got my blood drawn and my estrogen level is the lowest of the low. My doctor said it's from Yaz. Also, I just noticed this now, but I have lost so much hair since taking this pill."

"I don't usually review anything online, but I really feel like I need to share my experience with this pill. I was on Yasmin for a year and a half, and although superficially it was okay (no weight gain, no acne, etc.), mentally I went crazy, and this seems to be the case for a lot of women. I was anxious, my mind was foggy, I was snappy and overly aggressive (which is very unlike me), and generally just didn't feel myself. I then spoke to a doctor following an anxiety breakdown, and they said it could've been due to my pill. I recently changed from Yasmin to another pill, and it has changed my life. I FINALLY feel myself again, and I've realized how much Yasmin messed me up. I would not recommend this pill or experience to anyone."

"Yasmin was great for the couple of years I was on it, but about a month after I quit taking it, my hair started to shed more than usual. After three months, I had about a 40% decrease in hair volume and became noticeably thin on top. This is very devastating because I am an attractive, healthy 27-year-old. This is the side effect they don't warn you of."

"I've taken Yasmin for probably the last 3 years, but I've been using other birth control pills for 12 years, and the pill I was using made me gain about 7-8 lbs of water weight. That's when my doctor put me on Yasmin. In a few days, I lost the water weight, I don't get cramps, no mood swings, my periods last for 3-4 very light days, and I only have them every 3 months. So if your doctor says you can take Yasmin, I highly recommend it."

"I was taking the generic version of Yasmin off and on for 3 years. I would take month-long breaks because of the side effects I was experiencing. Recently, I stopped the pill because of severe heart palpitations, the last episode lasted 20 minutes, and I considered calling an ambulance. I would have left-sided chest pain weekly. I was light-headed when standing up. I had blurry, fuzzy vision constantly. When I was not running every day, I would instantly get sore, stiff calves. My hair is super thin at the crown, when I lift the crown hair up, I can see the scalp two inches in. My mood is horrible, irritable, and depressive. I did have very dark thoughts and cried a lot. I cried even over happy things, which is not how I usually am. I will never take this pill again. I recommend everyone to do their own research about Yasmin and the lawsuits others have filed. The side effects are real and life-threatening."

"Yasmin was the worst decision of my life to take this. I went on it for birth control, and the doctor thought it would help my endometriosis as well. At first, I was happy-my skin was clear and glowing, and I even lost some weight. However, after a few months, I started experiencing crippling anxiety and depression. After three months of this, I stopped the medication, but the aftermath got worse. I became so anxious and depressed I felt suicidal. Thankfully, I started seeing a naturopath who helped me restore my body to its pre-Yasmin state, and after 9 months off the pill, I started feeling like my old self. I do not recommend this!!"

"With my previous experience with coc birth control, I was a bit dubious. I’d gained so much weight and developed awful acne on Microgynon. I’m really thankful I was able to get on Yasmin. I’d been struggling with PCOS and its side effects, but I didn’t realize how bad it had gotten. After just a week on Yasmin, I’ve noticed my skin is so soft, my hair is growing back, my skin feels plump, I’m losing weight mostly from my arms and stomach, and I genuinely feel mentally balanced in a way I hadn’t been in a very long time. I’m so taken aback by how great it’s been so far, and I really hope this lasts."

"I have been having these pills for two months now as a treatment for my PCOS. I am 18, and since I started having this pill, my skin went bad, and I have had acne all over my face. I have completely lost my sex drive, and I don't feel anything during sex. My mood has been funny, and I have been sleepy and tired. I wouldn't recommend this pill, it totally destroyed my sex life and my face."

"I have been on Yasmin for 5 years, since I was 16. I stopped it for a few months (I switched jobs and lost my insurance). In that time, I went to a clinic and was given their low-cost birth control pills. Once I got back on Yasmin, I stopped having breakthrough bleeding, headaches, nausea, and everything in between. So, of the two or three birth control brands I have tried, Yasmin is by far the best."

"I have been on Yasmin for 10 years, yes 10, and I am finally getting the guts to change contraception. My periods themselves are a complete breeze, light enough, minimal cramping, but the gap between the last pill in my pack and my period actually coming is horrendous. As a teen and in my early 20s, it made me really down, but just for a day. One day felt like the trade-off for not getting pregnant, and I accepted it. Now it's crippling migraines that affect my ability to function, along with no sex drive. Fear of pregnancy, bad doctors, and lack of education kept me suffering for years. Know your body and stand your ground. It might work for some, but know when it's not working for you!"

"My cycles are regulated now, which is nice, but the part that is driving me crazy is my nipples hurt so bad around the same time every month. I feel nausea, heartburn, same symptoms as a pregnancy. I am going to use it for one more month, and if it doesn't go away, I am switching."

"I've been on Yasmin for nearly two years, but I've noticed my sex drive has gone, and I get moody a lot more. But it didn't make me gain any weight. I'm going to change pills when I go to the doctor's next."

"This pill is MAGIC - I have tried multiple pills, Rivegdon, Microgynon, etc., all of which have given me horrible mood swings to the point of feeling depressed. Fast forward 2 years, birth control free, I was prescribed Yasmin to treat my acne. Within 3 months, my skin was the best it had ever been, it suppresses my appetite, so I've lost weight (gone from size 8 to 6), and it's literally saving my relationship. I used to be a horrible, moody, clingy cow and was pushing my boyfriend away. This pill has taken the 'edge' off that usual PMT rage and has just been an overall godsend. If you can get this from your GP, I would recommend it, however, everybody is different and may have a different experience than me."

"I have been on Yasmin for 5 days so far, and I have had constant nausea, and in the past day have also experienced vomiting. Almost gives morning sickness-type symptoms. I will try and get to the end of the 21 days as advised by my pharmacist, but if this does not stop, I will definitely be coming off this pill. It is such a shame, as I really wanted this to work to clear up my skin and regulate periods."

"I moved on to Yasmin because I was looking for a pill to sort out my cystic acne. At first, my skin cleared up and my boobs got much bigger (which I loved). After a few months, though, I started to feel exhausted and nauseous most afternoons. I felt like I was pregnant, and it just didn’t let up! I also started to get horrendous period pains that resulted in black/dark red discharge for days at a time! I had multiple tests done at the doctors, but he couldn’t explain my symptoms. Then, however, the worst side effect of all kicked in... hair loss! This was extreme, every time I touched my hair, I would pull out clumps! I stopped taking Yasmin straight away, and it took about 3 months for my hair to stop falling out. I think I lost about 1/3 of my hair in total, and it was one of the scariest times of my life. For anyone who is suffering hair loss, stop taking Yasmin, and IT WILL STOP and IT WILL GROW BACK! Stay positive, it’s never as bad as you think it is."

"So, overall, Yasmin has been pretty good! I was pretty put off by all of the reviews, but I decided to give it a go because everybody is different! Let's start with the positives- I feel less stressed about pregnancy (I still use condoms just in case, though), my acne has stayed the same as it was when I took pills just for acne-providing I have a good routine. Negatives- I had quite a lot of nausea which comes and goes but overall is manageable but can make me quite tired! I had a lot of spotting and bleeding, but I didn't find it much of an issue apart from the fact that I have to wear pads all the time. Sometimes I was a bit achy-especially my boobs, but they definitely got larger! Before taking Yasmin, I had been diagnosed with depression and anxiety, and my biggest concern about taking Yasmin was that I'd heard it makes your mental health worse, but for me, it has stayed the same with sometimes feeling a bit more emotional over small things, but it's manageable!"

"I am 30, UK size 12/14, and have PCOS. To control my hormone imbalance, extreme bloating, and period pain, which at times would make me faint, I've been prescribed Yasmin. I took it for over 3 months, and for some time it was a relief because I could live a life of a normal person. The bloating was less, my hair wouldn't fall out as much, but most importantly, the painkillers I took to control the period pain would actually work. HOWEVER, what happened later was a lot scarier!!! I had 3 hemiplegic migraine attacks with stroke-like symptoms!!! The last one caused face numbness, followed by mind confusion and body being paralyzed for 3 hours. In the hospital, they’ve told me that what I had wasn’t a stroke but a severe form of hemiplegic migraine (the headache kicks in later), caused by Yasmin!!! I've stopped taking Yasmin, and I’ve never had an attack since. So think twice!!! Dealing with a problem by taking Yasmin might open doors to new problems!!!"

"Yasmin birth control seriously made me so depressed. I had no motivation to do anything. The few months that I took this were my absolute darkest days, and when I stopped taking it, it was the best decision I’ve ever made."

"So I started Yasmin on December 29, 2016, and began taking it regularly at 7:30 PM to avoid unwanted nausea that's often reported by women who take it early in the morning. The first week was fine, the second week made me awfully depressed, but I noticed clearer skin, and the third week brought along frequent urination, which frightened me because that's a symptom of pregnancy. But then with some online research, I found out that Yasmin definitely has a diuretic side effect that causes frequent urination. Instead of retaining the water (which causes bloating), frequent urination assisted in preventing bloating. In the third week, I had withdrawal bleeding 3 days into the inactive pills, which lasts about 5 days."

"I was taking Yasmin mainly for birth control as I was sexually active. But after about 2 months (3 packs of Yasmin) consuming it in due course, I realized that it wasn't only for birth control, but it helped my acne as well. After 3 months, my face was clear of any acne, but a few pimples (one or two) here and there, but that's easy to treat. When I stopped taking Yasmin for about 3 months, my acne came back, and now I'm actively on Yasmin again for contraception and also acne. I have tried many useless treatments and antibiotics, and creams and gels that the doctors suggested, but to no avail. And like what one said, 'it works inside out.'"
