"I was using Sprintec for about 4 years with no issues until I started experiencing breakthrough bleeding every month 2 weeks before I got my “period.” So I talked to my PCP and decided to change. She prescribed me Ocella (generic for Yasmin), and the first two initial days all I experienced was nausea, which is to be expected. But about a week into it, I got the worst anxiety attacks... worse than I’ve ever had along with a very rapid heartbeat. I have had anxiety my entire life, but never have I experienced what I went through with this. Other than anxiety/panic attacks, I had no other major symptoms. I did decide to stop taking Ocella about a week and a half into it and wait until my body is ready for another BC pill."

"I have been on Ocella about 5 weeks now. Worst decision I ever made. I have been having heavy, uncontrollable bleeding, terrible stomach pain, fatigue, nausea, and migraines. I informed my OB, and I have an appointment set for tomorrow. Fingers crossed that something else will help. I have been miserable ever since I've started Ocella."

"I just recently finished my first pack of Ocella, and I don't have many things to complain about except the cramps during my period!!! They were deadly and so uncomfortable. My period was heavy also. But I'm on it to regulate my period. I haven't gained any weight, but I've been noticing pimples popping up, and I've never had this problem before. I'm not sure if my hormones aren't used to it yet, but the acne sucks, and my breasts have been tender also. But overall, it's a pretty good birth control method."

"Negatives: I've felt on the verge of crying all day, every day. I've only wanted to be alone, but when I am alone, I'm depressed and feel a sense of heaviness. It just amplifies all my negative emotions. For a couple of weeks, I was also ravenously hungry all of the time. But at the same time, I felt slightly nauseous. The positives: I got on this birth control in an attempt to clear my cystic acne. At the end of month one, I see ever-so-slight improvements. The redness has faded slightly, and my skin, while still bumpy, is a bit smoother to the touch. I also noticed a very small increase in breast size in the first couple of weeks. Nothing major, I am very small chested, barely an A cup before, and am now a more full A cup. Again, not something that would be visually perceptible, but is noticeable to myself and my boyfriend! I also feel that, while I've always been thin, this medicine has made it even easier to keep the weight off."

"I've been taking Ocella for 4 months, and so far, everything is going great. I feel normal, my period comes on time every month, and my period is not as heavy. Occasionally, I feel nauseous around my period, but that side effect occurs with or without birth control. I would recommend this oral contraceptive to anyone who is between late teens and early twenties."

"Ocella has worked very well for me. I have gained no weight, have lighter periods, light cramping, and have only one issue. I become emotional and insecure around day 10 or 11, and then it subsides. I'm usually stable. However, I've decided to give another birth control a try because my cost is so high. But I will consider going back to Ocella if this new one doesn't work out."

"I have had the exact same reaction to Ocella as the poster named 'No Babies, but I'm Crazy.' I switched to Ocella from Levora because Levora was giving me really bad mood swings. When I was on it, I would burst into tears all the time for no reason. This side effect decreased dramatically when I switched to Ocella, but I do still get mood swings quite often. The biggest difference is that my moods on Ocella are more angry/agitated than weepy (which they were when I took Levora). However, I feel like the moods are more manageable, which is why I'm still on Ocella after 4 months (I stopped taking Levora after 2). When it comes time to renew my prescription in 2 months, I may consider choosing a new pill."

"I am 17 and started Ocella three months ago because I wanted to switch off the three-month schedule, which I hated. I am only finishing up the third month this next week, but I love it! I would get the WORST mood swings when I PMSed that my friends would purposely avoid me. Since switching to Ocella, I have had a MAJOR decrease in mood swings. My acne cleared up for the first two months, but I broke out pretty bad during the third month. And my period used to last 8 days and now is about 6-5 days. And now my period comes at a regular time. The only cons I could have about this product are around the time of my period I am extremely bloated, and I get terrible cramps. But since my mood swings are gone, I would completely recommend Ocella."

"I think this birth control is okay. It makes me really moody sometimes, especially on my period. I only get nauseous, heavy bleeding, headaches, and cramps, but other than that, it’s not bad. I have gained plenty of weight being on it, and I get paranoid ONLY on my period. It seems impossible to get off the weight, but it could be because I’ve been on pills for 5 1/2 years straight to make sure it’s a better chance I don’t have a child. When not on my period, I get really sad sometimes for no reason at all."

"I went on this medication when I was 19, and I am 24 now. When I was 19, I was diagnosed with stage 3 endometriosis. I now take continuous birth control pills (never going off the active ones). My insurance covers me to get 2 packets a month. Being on only active pills, I usually have spotting once or twice a year due to missing a pill or taking it more than 12 hours late. Side effects: big breasts and weight gain. I used to be a size B, now I'm a D/DD. Awesome! I have put on 20 pounds over the years, but that could be caused by my diet/age."

"I have been on Ocella for about 4 months now. Overall, it has done its job of keeping me kid-free, but I get horrible cramps a day or two before my period and during it. Periods are definitely shorter and lighter, so I don't understand the increase in cramps. I also have been getting headaches quite frequently, but I don't know if I can attribute that to this medication."

"I started taking Ocella in March of 2016. It was the very first time I tried birth control, and I am 26 years of age. I got on birth control because I am in a serious relationship, but I am not ready for children, and I wanted something to help me with my bad cramps and vomiting on the first days of my period. During the first week after my period, I experienced breakthrough bleeding for about a month. Things were fine until I began having yeast infections. The first I just thought, okay, it's just a yeast infection. However, I began to consistently experience them at least every month since then. I'm thinking of switching the pill as soon as I can to see if that helps. Besides this unrelenting side effect, my breasts have become larger."

"I don’t usually do reviews on birth control, but I thought I’d share. I used Yasmín (Ocella as the generic) for just over a year and in the past few months of using it, I have experienced horrible mood swings and anxiety. I have never been an anxious or moody, depressed person, so this came as a shock to me and I knew it was the pill. I already feel significantly better after one day of going off of this pill. Would NOT recommend to anyone struggling with anxiety."

"I was taking a different birth control (Lo Loestrin Fe) that broke my skin out so bad and made me feel bipolar, so I stopped taking birth control altogether. Skin didn’t get any better, so I decided to try a new birth control. I was very, very hesitant because of the mood swings I experienced on the other birth control! Well, I have been taking Ocella now for over a year and can say that I have not had one side effect. No weight gain, no mood swings, no tenderness! My skin has cleared, and besides taking the pill every day, I don’t even feel like I’m on birth control unlike others I’ve taken that changed my mood or body! Definitely recommend trying Ocella!"

"If you're considering using this, I wouldn't recommend it. On the first week of using this, I would find myself hysterically crying on the bathroom floor at night. I got really depressed while on it on the first week. On the second week, literally on the 10th day of using this, I got hives. I didn't stop using it, hoping it would just go away. Wrong. It got so bad I was hospitalized for it."

"I was on Microgestin for years, and it didn't keep my periods regular. I have PCOS, and I've been on Ocella for 4 months now. My periods are regular now, but they don't like to stop, and it takes 3 days into the packet before it starts to stop my period. During the first three days, I get really bad headaches, where it affects my vision. I am extremely nauseous, and it makes the skin on my face flushed red and sensitive to touch, not to mention hot to the touch. I'm kind of at a loss at this point. I was told it would lower things, and it's caused me to have IBS really badly. Among the issues I have in the first few days of restarting this pill. Very mixed feelings about this pill!"

"I was using MonoNessa for 1 year before my doctor switched me to Ocella. I absolutely regret agreeing to the switch. I was perfectly fine with MonoNessa except for being a little dry 'down there' during intimacy. I prefer that to what Ocella has done to me. I wake up with a headache almost every single day, I have a raging appetite, and I’ve been on Ocella since April 15 and started spotting April 18. It is now May 25, and I have not stopped spotting (sometimes heavier) at all. For over a month now, and this is just insane. I don’t suggest this pill to anyone."

"This is the first birth control pill that I've been on as I don't necessarily like the idea of hormonal contraceptives. I just started Ocella this month and so far I have bled for 10 days straight (lightly, but I've been used to light periods that last four or five days), and my emotions have been out of control. I normally have light mood swings before my period, but this has been ten times worse and nonstop for the week and a half that I've been on Ocella. I crave junk food 24 hours a day and feel angry or upset about the littlest things. My skin is pretty clear naturally, and I haven't noticed a change in that. My sex drive is about the same. I can't say much else as this is my first month on it, but I am not a fan of the super PMS so far."

"I started this method about 8 months ago. I hate it. No change in acne, but weight gain, headaches, horrible heavy crampy periods, intense mood swings. I'm switching soon. On the good side: I'm not pregnant, so yay there, and I know exactly when Hell Week (last 7 days always) starts and ends."

"Thank you all for setting my mind at ease. My friend freaked when she heard I was put on this. A lot of other reviews were saying Yaz and Ocella were different and caused terrible side effects. I am switching from Ortho Tri Cyclen to this, and I'm hoping all of your reviews will also be true in my case!"

"not even all the way through my first pack and I have a love-hate relationship with Ocella. My docs gave me this medication to prevent future cysts; I had a 9 cm and two 4 cm cysts (existent since birth). I have spotting EVERY DAY! I can't tell when my period started."

"I was a healthy 30-year-old female with no other possible health factors. I had been on Ocella for about a year and a half. The Monday after my daughter’s third birthday, I started having intense shoulder/AC joint pain. I went to two chiropractors and talked to three doctors. By Thursday, I was driving to get an X-ray when I felt like I was having a heart attack. I went to the closest ER, and after an EKG, blood work, and CT Angio, I was told I had two pulmonary embolisms with infarcts. I was hospitalized for two and a half days and on blood thinners for three months. Always be your own advocate!"

"I love this pill. I tried so many others, but this is the only one that doesn’t make me emotional. No weight gain, and it’s helped clear my skin. I recommend this to everyone."

"Ending my 4th day taking this BC, and I've been extremely nauseous since yesterday. Didn't even go to work today. Weak. So sick feeling, bloated, constipated, angry, and NO fuse. Yelling at my kids. So upset over this, I hate BC pills."
