"I had high hopes for Ocella with all the good reviews I read, but no. Back story: I'm in my 30s, PCOS lean, and have already had to have a hysterectomy. This BC absolutely wreaked havoc on my stomach so bad that I've become intolerant to red meat. On top of all that awesomeness (sarcasm), it gave me horrible anxiety and turned me into an emotional mess. I've switched to Happy Hippie Go With the Flow supplements and have had WAY better results. Because I'm PCOS and experience PMDD, I've also switched to a low-carb diet and pair that with exercise, and I feel amazing. But eating red meat now has me praying to the 'porcelain god' for almost 2 days."

"I started on Yasmin, then switched to Ocella when it was released. I had no issues with it. It helped my cramps, shortened my period by 2 days, and helped clear out my skin. I gained no weight (but was eating very healthy and stayed active). I stopped taking it for 2 months to have surgery, got pregnant, and am back on it now. I have never had any moodiness, and it has helped with my time-of-the-month migraines I would get. I would recommend this to anyone. FYI, I started on this when I was 24 and am now 27."

"I switched to Ocella after taking Yaz for 3 months. I have PCOS as well. Ocella worked wonderfully in clearing my skin, and it gave me a 7-day period (instead of the constant flow). That was a relief. But, I had bad side effects that caused me to ask for a change in medication after 3 or 4 months of using it. I didn't realize they were connected to birth control at first, but now it's obvious with timing. I get debilitating migraine headaches during the first few days of the placebo week (from hormone drop), and the week before my period I have severe constipation, which affects my body image (I feel unattractive). It also has me very depressed a week before, too. And this last month, I started spotting 2 weeks in."

"Not a huge fan. I started taking Ocella about 9 months ago only as birth control. It was my first experience being on the pill. Good: NEVER GOT PREGNANT! Meh: I went up a full cup size (C to a D, but I already have a small frame, so I didn't celebrate). Bad: It gave me terrible nausea, headaches, and migraines. I started having awful mood swings and felt like I was always lashing out. Period didn't change, I still had an extremely heavy flow for at least a week with little to no spotting before or after and said goodbye to too many pairs of cute panties. Worst of all, it brought a horrible bout of depression that I'm still dealing with. I recently switched to another birth control with lower estrogen, so hopefully it goes better this time."

"I've been on Ocella for over a year, and I don't mind it. It does its job. Negatives: It kills your sex drive, horrible cramps, acne around your period time; but that's with anyone. Positives: Emotions have been under control, and periods only last about 4 days. Overall, I would recommend this birth control. I don't have spotting, emotional breakdowns, or any of that."

"I used to be on TriPrevifem, and I could only last a month on that. The nausea was so bad, and I was only like 3 weeks into my first pack. Now I'm on my second pack of Ocella, and I've had virtually no side effects, which is amazing! No weight gain, thank God. The only thing is my cramps during my period were downright deadly, but I hear that gets better over time. I am so happy, I forget I'm even on birth control, and that's an awesome thing."

"I've been using Ocella for a few months. I don't use condoms, and I've had zero scares so far. I have hormonal acne, and it's getting better slowly. My periods are amazing now. I have no cramps whatsoever. My moods are great. Not on birth control, I am a crazy monster. My cramps are unbearable for days. I have not had much weight gain, and my cravings are less than normal. So far, I like this."

"I tried Ortho Tri-Cyclen 2 years ago. I switched to Ocella 3 weeks later because Ortho Tri-Cyclen made me nauseous and made my gums itchy. I have experienced weight gain (8 lbs) caused by eating all my cravings. I've taken it from 2011 to now and haven't had any bad experiences."

"Mild nausea when I first started, but that has gone away. Cleared my skin a lot, which was a surprise, and so far, I've grown two cup sizes. No weight gain or loss, and allows me to completely skip my period by starting a new pack rather than taking placebos. Only downside is mild mood swings, but nothing unmanageable. Definitely better than Tri Previfem."

"I LOVE OCELLA! I was on a generic form of Seasonale and it was HORRIBLE. I had the worst depression/mood swings ever and breakthrough bleeding EVERYDAY. So I switched to Ocella and love it. Acne hasn't really cleared up and I do have some weight gain, but my eating habits aren't the best either, so I won't blame it on that. I don't like that the price went up, but I'm not going to switch because I feel so normal now and never want to experience anything like my first birth control. I definitely recommend Ocella!"

"I take Ocella to help control my PCOS and as a birth control. It's done a good job of regulating my period and as a birth control. However, I've experienced many mood swings and depressive-like symptoms, as well as more nausea and tenderness in my breasts. It does what it needs to do, which is why I'm reluctant to switch, since it is one of the best birth controls to regulate my PCOS symptoms."

"I hate this pill, it's the second birth control I have been on, and I can't wait to switch. I have been on Ocella for 6 months, and all 6 months have been terrible. I've been gaining weight, which makes me extremely depressed, and I've had really bad mood swings. I am usually a calm, easygoing person, but ever since I have been on this pill, every little thing irritates me or makes me mad. My doctor also assured me this pill would make my period shorter and lighter... no... not at all. However, I have not gotten pregnant, so it works in that regard."

"I had a great experience on Ocella. My insurance does full coverage of it for me, so it's free every month, huge plus! I was also prone ever since my first period, which was pretty late. I would skip months at a time and then have terrible cramps, periods, and awful moods. Prescription Midol couldn't even provide me with relief. I got on a BC that caused me to gain weight even though I was dieting and exercising, and I stopped it. I then, a few months later, got on Ocella. I have my period every month, and it lasts about 4 days. It's pretty heavy with minimal cramps. I haven't gained weight, but I can't seem to lose any either, but that's not really a problem for me at this time. No out of the ordinary mood swings, sickness, or tiredness."

"I had the Mirena for 3 years and hated it! I developed cystic acne, and my periods were at least 2 weeks long each month. I got it removed and immediately started Ocella. It's been great. My periods are not longer than 5 days each month, and my skin looks amazing! I rarely get breakouts; but if I do, they go away MUCH quicker than normal. The only negatives are that I'm moody, bloated, and have heavy cravings during my cycle. The normal PMS effects, I guess."

"I'm going through the same thing right now. I used to pay $10, and now they want $40 for Ocella. I'm a college student, I can't afford that every month. So I'm looking into Apri now, as my doctor recommended. Overall, I was fine with Ocella and Yasmin. It made my boobs bigger, cleared my face, and I always know when I'll get my period."

"I've been on this pill for exactly 1 month now, and I wanted to share my experience. So far, the only thing that stands out is depression/moodiness. Everyone has a different body chemistry, and I'm assuming that since I am already a relatively moody and anxious person (though NOT a depressed person), Ocella heightens the moodiness. It got especially bad right before my period, I was doing a lot of crying for no reason. I feel better now, after my period, and hoping it continues. No other problems to report, but I'll check back in a few months with anything noteworthy."

"Took Ocella for 2 years. It cleared up my acne and helped a lot with period cramps. I never got pregnant and was sexually active the whole time. BUT I gained an insane amount of weight with little change to my diet or exercise. I gained about 30 pounds during that time and was super bloated with a lot of fluid retention. Looking back on photos, I can tell when I was on it by how bloated my face looked vs. when I went off. Didn't notice much change in sex drive, which is good. Probably won't use again."

"It wasn't a bad birth control other than the mood swings and anxiety. Six months into it, I started to have a really hard time breathing, chest pain, and swelling of my arms and legs. I checked out side effects, and these are some of the more severe ones. I took myself off of it a week ago, and I feel so much better, I'm less anxious and moody, and the pain and swelling."

"I have been on Ocella for about 3 years, and I have loved it. Never had any problems: cleared my skin, breasts grew, periods were light, sex drive was not really affected. In the past few months, though, I have seen a lot more breakthrough bleeding, leading to almost 2-week long periods (not fun), so I am switching."

"Starting in elementary school, my acne was horrible. At age 13, it morphed into a rare form of cystic acne. Came back a couple of years after the first bout was defeated. Currently just 18, and have been on Ocella since mid-August. Since being put on Ocella, my acne has decreased immensely and stayed as regular types of breakouts rather than the cystic variety. Haven't experienced any major side effects, although I am more prone to getting emotional over the sweet, mushy-gushy stuff. At first, my sex drive was higher (even though I've never actually acted on it), but that has calmed down now. My periods are a bit lighter and are slightly more predictable down to the start and end days. I would definitely recommend this birth control."

"I've been on Ocella for about two months now (and I was on it for about two years a while ago), but this time around I'm suffering from terrible nausea. No mood changes, lost some weight, no pimples, etc., but the nausea is ridiculous. I've been taking it now around 11 at night, so that I can try to sleep through it, but sometimes it will wake me up at 3 or 4, and I'll be so sick. Hoping that I adjust to this soon, because otherwise, I really enjoy using it!"

"I've been on this Ocella for 3 weeks, and currently now on the 3rd week I've been bleeding heavily for 4 days straight (breakthrough bleeding? With lots of clots?), which is highly irritating, and I'm already wanting to stop the medication. Doesn't seem normal."

"I'm 23 years old and started birth control on Ortho Tri-Cyclen. I stopped for about a year or so, then when I went back to the GYN, she put me on Ocella. I haven't ever had problems with my period, but it did lighten it up for me quite a bit. I've been on it for about 2 years, and it has just recently brought me from a 5-day period to a 3-day period. I was a bit surprised, but I don't mind at all! I have never detected any differences on and off birth control, except it's easier to pinpoint when things will happen throughout the month. I usually get a very mild acne breakout right before, as well as some cramps, which don't last very long. I have occasional emotional breakdowns, but they are so rare that I don't really contribute it to Ocella."

"This may be premature, I've only been on it for a week, but I have been super moody. Irritable, cried 3x in the past week and have developed a lot of pimples on my forehead and nose. I usually never break out, only when on my period and not as much as this. I also am highly anxious... I'm an anxious person to begin with, but with the pill for this week I've been near panic attack a lot, and that hasn't happened in a decade. I'm hoping my body gets used to the pill and these awful side effects will go away. Will update after the month."

"I'm still currently taking this drug, and there have been really no side effects other than an upset stomach if I don't eat when I take it, and it also makes me very touchy and angry. I used to never get raging mad, but ever since I've been on the pill, the simplest things set me off and I go mad without even realizing it's happening."
