For Birth Control "I am 22 years old, and my doctor prescribed me Gianvi birth control because I had bad acne. It definitely took a couple of months before I noticed a difference, and I will say it did clear my acne. I’ve been taking Gianvi for 8 months. However, this pill KILLED my sex drive. Like zero sex drive. I dried up like a raisin, and sex would be painful. I finally decided it had to be linked to my birth control and called my doctor to switch me to a different pill. Other than absolutely no sex drive, this pill was okay. I did not experience any weight gain or shifts in my mood. But going from a normal active sex drive to absolute zero is a huge reason to get off of it, at least for me."

For Birth Control "I've been on Gianvi for 7 years now. It has prevented pregnancy, which is the main point of taking it. I can't remember having any issues with nausea when I first started taking it, but I usually take it with food. My periods are normal, I wouldn't say lighter on this pill. I still get cramps and moodiness, and it definitely kills my sex drive. One odd fact about this pill is that since I've been taking this brand, I developed IBS. I've actually seen research studies that link IBS to Yaz and its generic counterparts. I'm finishing out my last pill pack of Gianvi and switching to something else to see if the IBS diminishes. I wouldn't say Gianvi has been terrible, but I think I could feel better on something else."

For Birth Control "I took Yaz years ago, without issue. I don't know if it's my body aging or what, but when I started taking Gianvi (generic Yaz) 4 months ago, the depression/anxiety/anger side effect is just too much. I'm quitting. I have read that the synthetic hormone in this BC, drospirenone, can cause depression. For me, it's been dramatic. Every month, about 5 days before my period, I cry uncontrollably and get irritable and angry for no reason. I'm dead-eyed, depressed, and feel lethargic at times. Also, I have ZERO sex drive and cannot climax when I do. I am not myself, mentally or emotionally, and it's just not worth it to take this pill anymore. If you are prone to depression, do not take this."

For Birth Control "This is one of the worst birth controls I've used. Before this, I was on Loryna, and it was perfect. Even Nikki was okay, the only side effect being extreme nausea. This one doesn't give me mental issues, although I've never had a birth control that has. BUT the big negative on this is it not only kills my libido, but it also makes me dry, and for some reason I'm not able to fully stretch out when having sex and keep getting tears. It is both frustrating and painful, and my partner is extra cautious and considerate, and it's so frustrating to have this problem. I know it's this BC because I went off of it for 2 months, and sex became great again. As soon as I got back on, boom, problems came back. Never had this issue with Loryna or Nikki, and I am furious. I've been trying to get Loryna, but the pharmacy is out, and they gave me another generic instead, so I'm hoping this new one isn't as bad as Gianvi. Even though the active ingredients are the same in all these pills, the inactive ones seem to either make or break it for different women."

For Birth Control "This Gianvi birth control pill made me feel bad as soon as I started taking it. I gave it a full month due to thinking maybe my horrible mood was situational. I've never had depression like I did while taking this pill. I was irritable, crying, pessimistic, lethargic, and could not orgasm. The day I stopped taking it, I already started to feel like myself again. I felt like I was in a fog. I feel bad for my family who had to be around me during the month I tried this pill. I know you should typically stay on a pill for at least 3 months, but there is no way I'm taking that again!"

For Menstrual Disorders "I never got pregnant on this stuff, so it works well for that. I started taking this for my debilitating cramps and heavy periods, and it really didn't do much. Plus, I gained 15 lbs after starting this and had absolutely ZERO sex drive. I didn't even want my fiancé to touch me. I found myself being completely moody. It helped with acne, except when I was about to start my period, I broke out like crazy. Now that I am off, my sex drive is back to normal and my periods haven't really changed."

For Birth Control "I am 39 and have never had PMS to speak of. I have been on birth control pills for over a decade (Estrostep, Ortho Tri-Cyclen) with no problems. Went on Gianvi, and it was a nightmare. I stuck it out for 3 months as my body adjusted, thinking it would get better, but if anything, it got worse. The 10 days or so before my period, I was tense, stressed, and depressed. It had such a negative impact on my life. And no sex drive to speak of. The only positive thing I can say is that I did not notice worsening of any weight or acne problems."

For Birth Control "I've been on it for 3 months, and it's pretty good. Your acne does get semi worse for the first couple of months, but at month 3, I can see that my skin is clearing up. I would say 8/10 in terms of how much it's helped my skin. I don't think I've gained much weight, but my boobs have definitely gotten bigger. No loss of sex drive for me, but it has not helped my period cramps/aches at all. I think it's only made my period marginally lighter. It does what it does fairly well, and it's completely covered by my insurance. There have been no negative side effects as of now."

For Birth Control "I had stomach pains for a whole year to the point of almost pooping my pants at work with anything I ate. I eventually went to the doctor, and she chalked it up as IBS, which I feel like is an excuse when there aren’t any other answers. My mom realized that this was a generic brand of YAZ and remembered that she was sick for 9 months on that with the same issues. At this point, I was willing to try anything to not have stomach issues, so I came off of it and haven’t had any stomach issues since! I also realized it decreased my sex drive, made me dry, and the white part of my eyes is yellow because of it. Highly recommend a different BC or none at all!"

For Birth Control "I started taking Gianvi after the pharmacy said Vestura, another generic of Yaz, was discontinued. I noticed that after a month of taking it, I did not get my period. I asked my OBGYN, and she said it was normal. After continual use, I actually lost my period for a whole year while I was on it and didn’t think anything of it because I thought it was normal until I went back to my OBGYN. Also, a month ago, I stopped taking Gianvi after my new insurance only does a 90-day supply with online mail order. So now, after taking another generic, drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol from Glenmark Pharma, my period has returned after 30 days on it. So don’t believe what pharmacists say, it’s the same when changing to another generic brand. I also experienced loss of sex drive and dryness on Gianvi. I wish I would have realized sooner what it did to my body. Other than that, it did protect me from pregnancies."

For Birth Control "After going on my 4th month of taking Gianvi, I had to stop taking this product completely. While this birth control pill does the job of preventing pregnancy and is very easy to take, it also had significant side effects that vastly surpassed the pros. I had terrible mood swings, deep depressing feelings over trivial situations, uncontrollable crying, and a total loss of sex drive. At first, I thought it was just early menopause (at age 40), but after doing some research and experimenting, I realized that it was the birth control pills."

For Acne "I took Gianvi, the generic of Yaz, for two months. I had some breakthrough bleeding and cramps near my original start date, and still had bad cramps during the sugar pills. My acne cleared up big time. But I started getting melasma (dark spots) on my cheeks, especially near my eyes. No weight gain. Huge, huge decrease in libido. Currently trying to find something else."

"I was on Yaz for a couple of years, then my gyn suggested I begin taking Gianvi, which is generic for Yaz. It was cheaper & figured I would try it. Big mistake. I noticed I started to have horrible mood swings. I would be laughing one minute, then angry or upset/crying the next for the smallest reasons. I am also hungry all the time! I've gained 5 lbs, no big deal. I honestly don't know how I haven't gained more. I crave food even if I've just eaten. I also noticed my vision is blurry. I was wondering if my contacts were just dirty and needed to be changed, but I still notice it. My sex drive has also decreased a lot, which was never the case on Yaz. My boyfriend and I have decided going back to Yaz is probably the best decision for both our sakes!"

For Birth Control "Was on Gianvi for 2 months. Stopped taking it because it gave me mood swings and caused me to break out more (which was the reason I wanted to take it in the first place). My sex drive was really low the first month, but it got back to normal. I had terrible cramps before, and this actually helped a lot. I had an awful time trying to concentrate on things, and overall it just made me feel crazy..."

For Birth Control "I've been on Gianvi for, I want to say, about 2.5-3 years now. For the most part, it's been a pretty good experience. However, recently, I've been experiencing low sex drive and dryness during sex. It might have to do with being in a global pandemic, accompanied by anxiety and seasonal depression, so I'm reluctant to say it's all from Gianvi. However, I will be speaking to my PCP to see if she recommends a new brand. The new development of low sex drive/dryness has started to affect my relationship, and I want to nip it in the bud."

"I have been taking Gianvi for about two months now, and I have nothing but negative info to share. I started cramping the first month. I spotted the entire first month of taking it. My boobs were extremely sore. My sex drive decreased like none other. I am never in any kind of good mood. I am super sensitive and touchy to the littlest things. Every little thing sets me off. I have always been a very relaxed person."

For Birth Control "Used this birth control for almost three years. It was the first BC I've used. Prior to taking it, I had so many breakouts and I noticed a big change in my skin within a week of taking it. Ever since, it has done wonders for my skin. I also did not gain any weight while on this pill. But it did kill my sex drive. I stopped taking it because my OB-GYN needed me to come in before getting a new prescription. I've been off it for three weeks now. My skin hasn't changed much. It does feel slightly oilier, but the breakouts are small and go away quickly. The major change I've noticed is how much more normal I feel now. I used to get extremely anxious, and I thought it was just me. But I'm starting to think maybe it was the pill? Regardless, Gianvi was a great pill. Giving it an 8/10 because of decreased sex drive and anxiety. But the pros outweigh the cons. I would definitely take it again. My pharmacy just switched me to Nikki, so hopefully it's just like Gianvi."

For Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder "I start my pills tonight! I was on Lexapro for 2 years to treat PMDD, which was terrible for me and my loved ones. Lost sex drive completely and gained 42 lbs, so the doctor is treating me with this drug in order to stop my cycle and relieve me of PMDD without Lexapro. Stay tuned!"
