"I was on Yaz for a couple of years, then my gyn suggested I begin taking Gianvi, which is generic for Yaz. It was cheaper & figured I would try it. Big mistake. I noticed I started to have horrible mood swings. I would be laughing one minute, then angry or upset/crying the next for the smallest reasons. I am also hungry all the time! I've gained 5 lbs, no big deal. I honestly don't know how I haven't gained more. I crave food even if I've just eaten. I also noticed my vision is blurry. I was wondering if my contacts were just dirty and needed to be changed, but I still notice it. My sex drive has also decreased a lot, which was never the case on Yaz. My boyfriend and I have decided going back to Yaz is probably the best decision for both our sakes!"

For Birth Control "Was on Gianvi for 2 months. Stopped taking it because it gave me mood swings and caused me to break out more (which was the reason I wanted to take it in the first place). My sex drive was really low the first month, but it got back to normal. I had terrible cramps before, and this actually helped a lot. I had an awful time trying to concentrate on things, and overall it just made me feel crazy..."

For Birth Control "I was prescribed Gianvi to treat hormonal acne. I have never taken another form of birth control prior to this and was hoping it would help with my cramps as well, though I had a regular period that was heavy and would last 6 days typically. Unfortunately, this drug didn't help me. In the beginning, I noticed my acne actually got worse. My mood began to fluctuate far more frequently than it normally did. I started experiencing the most severe cramps I've ever felt, with diarrhea that lasted days. I also had a very light, inconsistent period, which made me nervous that I would lose my period entirely. There were a few days where I stayed in bed because of the pain. I know everyone’s different, and this drug may work great for other people, but I personally would not recommend it. I stopped taking it after a month (even though you're supposed to take it for at least three) and don't know if I want to try a different one at this point."

For Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder "I was on Yasmin and loved it. I lost weight, my skin cleared, my cramps and bloating gone. I had severe PMDD, and it helped, BUT I was bleeding constantly. I felt so good I stuck it out for 8 months hoping to adjust, which I didn't, so my doctor switched me to Yaz and I ended up with the generic Gianvi. It's AWFUL! My mood swings are back, I'm depressed, and have no energy. I gained 4 lbs and cramped 3 weeks out of the month. My back hurts. And I'm still constantly bleeding. I made it through two packs, but I can't take anymore. So I'm switching again."

For Birth Control "I have been on Gianvi for about a year. I was on Ocella, but they no longer carry it. I first loved it, but now I'm so emotional. I'm a very outgoing person and also have that zip, and now I'm totally different. My mood swings are up and down, my sex drive is gone. The doctor put me on it because of the migraines I get from the pill, but also because I have endometriosis. I continually take it for 3 months and off for one month. After talking to the nurse today, I found out that Gianvi has more progesterone and less estrogen."

For Birth Control "I am currently taking Gianvi and not too happy with some of the side effects. I've been on the pill for about 4-5 months, and the main issue I have is for all of this month I have been spotting. I heard people tend to spot while on this pill, and I am hoping it is just my body getting used to this pill. If this continues, I will switch to another pill. I am not experiencing as many mood swings or migraines like some of the other people, but I am noticing a slight change in my willingness to do things."

For Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder "I had been taking Yaz and was told this was a generic form of that. I agreed to switch because of the price difference. I've been on Gianvi for almost 6 months and have found it does nothing to correct the irritability and mood swings like Yaz did. I will definitely be making the switch back. It's worth the extra money."

For Acne "So I have been taking Gianvi for 2 months, going into my 3rd. I will say my husband and I haven't gotten pregnant, so it works in that department. I really wanted something for my acne, as I have suffered from it for years. Acne is one of the reasons for me taking this one. I am not sure if it hasn't been enough time or not and am not completely sure if it's helping or not. I do think my dark spots are getting lighter, but I am still breaking out here and there. Not bad, but it doesn't look good either. My period still lasts 7 days, as always, which I hate, but it hasn't been super heavy, I guess. Like the others, I have not had any mood swings, etc., and my sex drive is still normal."

For Birth Control "I have been on Gianvi for about a month, and so far my experience has been great. I have experienced a little weight loss (but I am also a very active person, so I am not sure if that's because of the birth control), and no major mood shifts. I switched to Gianvi from Junel Fe, which I had a terrible experience with, and my acne has improved tremendously. I still have a few pimples, but they are slowly going away. It does its job preventing pregnancy, however, I do experience a bit of stomach pain about 30 minutes after I take it, so I suggest taking it at night so you don’t notice it."

For Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder "The first couple weeks I started noticing my acne actually getting worse on this particular birth control Gianvi. I blamed it on outside stressors and the fact that maybe it was a flare-up from starting a different birth control. Fast forward to months later and my acne hadn't really gotten any better and I noticed EXTREME mood swings (increased depression, suicidal thoughts, even what felt like mania at times) around the time of my period, and it seemed like it got worse every period. Disclaimer: I do have a history of depression and take medication (fluoxetine) for that, so it may have been a drug interaction."

For Acne "My acne got worse, and so did my moods. The only thing that was good about it is I was less hungry. I wouldn't recommend it for acne, but for birth control, I would."

"I'm about to start my fourth month on Gianvi. For the first month or two, I was more emotional than usual and had hunger cravings all the time. Now I feel normal, or maybe I've just gotten used to it. It does kind of weird things for my period. My period doesn't actually start until I'm halfway through the placebo pills, and then it doesn't end until I've taken a couple of the regular pills, so that can be kind of annoying. The period is cramp-free though, which is nice. My breasts have gotten a bit bigger. Didn't seem to affect acne very much, I still break out, no worse or better than before."
