"I was on this pill for 4 years before it started causing severe emotional problems. I was always a level-headed, even-keeled kind of person. Things didn’t really upset me much. But by my 4th year of taking Yaz, I was having weekly panic attacks, depression, obsessive and paranoid thoughts, and I had zero self-esteem. I ruined a few relationships because I was suspicious of the people in my life. I knew something was seriously wrong with me, but I had no idea it could be my pill. It wasn’t on my radar. Then I came across a forum of women going through the same thing, and they were taking Yaz. I stopped taking my pill for 3 months, and I felt great. It was like the clouds parted. I didn’t have a single panic attack in those 3 months! I had my Dr. switch me to a different generic brand, hoping that might help. Well, I could only stand to be on it for 1 week... I had 2 panic attacks in the span of that 1 week. Pills went in the trash, and I haven’t looked back."

"I’m almost 35, and I have been on several different birth controls since I was 16. Yaz was my favorite, but I recently switched to Yasmin. I worried my skin would break out because the FDA didn’t approve Yasmin for acne like Yaz is. My skin has continued to stay clear, and I personally haven’t had any issues with Yasmin."

"I can't believe there are so many negative comments about Yaz... I started taking it a year ago due to my very painful periods (I would throw up, couldn't eat, or go to school and work, and popping large doses of painkillers). These pills, Yaz, literally changed my life. I used to have awful PMS, and I would get really depressed a week before my period. Everything is gone now. The terrible moods, cramps, everything. I feel great, actually, I've never felt better. Only bad thing is I gained 6 kg since I started taking it, and I'm really afraid of those blood clots everyone's talking about. I don't ever want to stop taking this pill, but I'm afraid I'll have to due to its well-known side effects. But for now, I enjoy my life with Yaz <3"

"I have been taking Yasmin for 9 months, and I can say that it has protected me effectively against pregnancy. I have read about some negative effects that have been linked to this pill. However, I decided to take it because my mother took it for years without experiencing any side effects. During my first cycle taking the pill, I experienced mild nausea and upset stomach occasionally. However, the symptoms were gone by the time I started my second pack. I have not noticed any changes in my weight or in my mood. I have frequent muscle cramps in my legs, but I am not sure that this is being caused by the pill."

"Yasmin ruined my relationship! When I first started the pill, I loved it, my skin eventually improved, and my skin was sooo clear! My boobs looked amazing too. Well, that’s the only positive thing I can say about Yasmin. When it comes to my mental health, it literally made me crazy! I’m naturally a very calm, happy, and collected person. But these pills made me cry in front of my ex over small things. We couldn’t hold a serious conversation without me crying, I could get moody over small things, and then I couldn’t snap out of it, which made things worse. I’ve felt extremely anxious, paranoid, and depressed. My added anxiety has made me feel more insecure about myself. I have no energy to do my old activities that I used to enjoy. I feel lazy and like I can’t fully be in sync with my feelings. Basically, if you want great skin, go for it! But don’t be surprised if you suddenly get added depression, tears, and anxiety. I’m off them now, and I am already happier."

"I just started Nikki a month ago. For the first week, I had terrible nausea and headaches. However, now my skin is so, so clear. For the past 2 years, I have been struggling with terrible bloating to the point where I look pregnant. Nikki helped me feel less bloated, and I have lost 10 pounds in one month! I am 120 lbs now, so losing 10 lbs was a big deal for me! I am so happy and thankful for this pill. It really has transformed my life. Best of all, my copay is $0!"

"I’m finishing my third pack of Loryna. I’ve really struggled with giving my body the adequate time to adjust to it, but I can’t take the side effects anymore. I switched because the last few pills I tried did not clear up my hormonal acne. Loryna has helped clear up my skin, and my period is much lighter, both of which are nice. However, I also take Vyvanse for ADHD and narcolepsy, and I swear Loryna is messing with the effectiveness. I’m incredibly fatigued and sleepy all of the time now. I’m also experiencing awful headaches. I’m so depressed and anxious to where I can hardly recognize myself. My boobs have gone up a cup size, I’ve gained 11 pounds, and yes, I’m starving all the time. I have done intermittent fasting for the last two years and dropped 25 pounds, but rapidly gaining 11 pounds in under three months and struggling with my intermittent fasting, along with other side effects, is ruining my self-image and happiness."

"I have been taking Yaz for 1 month. My doctor asked me to try it for a couple more, so my body can get used to it, but I would rather just stop right now. I'm tired all the time, depressed, no sex drive. I had horrible cramps, worse than when I was in high school, and bad migraines the week prior to my period. I cry at the drop of a hat, and I'm really anxious. I do not like it, but I will give it one more month. We'll see."

"I've been on Yasmine for over 8 years. Two months ago, my local pharmacist suggested the switch to Zarah. Two months have now passed. I'm nauseous, I've gained 8 pounds, and I'm also tired often. Honestly, I thought I was pregnant (I'm not)... The cheap switch is not worth the side effects. There is something different about this pill."

"I’ve been on this medication for almost a month, and it has been nothing but amazing! I used to be on Tri-Sprintec for 5 years and then got the depo shot one time after that (depo was terrible!). I’ve been off birth control for 4 years now, and this entire year, my periods have become more irregular, my cramps have become unbearable, my emotions have been all over the place (crying for days in a row), lack of energy, and the thoughts I was having were scary. So I went to the doc, she stated I might have PMDD now, so I asked for birth control pills that are highly rated for PMDD, and she explained this brand is. I have had ZERO side effects so far *fingers crossed*. Give it a TRY! Everybody's body reacts differently to medications. It’s also increased my energy levels!"

"Actually, one of the only contraceptive pills my body and I have gotten along with. Did help to clear up my skin (although I believe spots were caused by a previous pill), however, had to stop taking it after having the second dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine, as I had a resting heart rate of over 100 bpm constantly and heart palpitations. This pill, on average, can make women 3x more likely to have blood clots, and I don't think enough research has been done into the side effects of that mixed with COVID vaccines."

"I’ve been on this birth control for about eight months, and I believe my acne is a lot clearer. It does make me quite emotional for no reason sometimes, and when I get my period, I get painful cramps, which I’ve never had before. I’ve also seemed to gain weight and dislike myself. But my boobs did go up a few sizes."

"I've been on Ocella for 2 months now, my period is so light that I think it’s implantation bleeding! My cramps are very mild, and I have no acne. I've been sad about absolutely everything, but it hasn’t affected my life so much. This birth control is so much better than my other ones I have tried! I am 18 years old, I have never had a pregnancy scare. My periods last about 3-4 days."

"I am at month 7 of taking Yaz, and I've never been more anxious and depressed in my entire life (I'm 21). I've never had so many panic attacks and mood swings in a year. I had so many health problems this year, and I've been to the hospital so many times. Those things never happened to me before. The reason why I started this pill was to avoid pregnancy. Well, it worked, but my anxiety made me feel paranoid always about being pregnant because I was bloated all the time, and my periods were always changing. My anxiety made me lose too much weight and caused acid reflux, which left me with persistent nausea for months, and I got a lot of migraines, which recently began to be aura migraines. My mom said that I was not the same person anymore. My boyfriend is sad to see me like this, and I don't really see my friends anymore because of my social anxiety. I'm getting off this pill tonight. Don't ever use it, it's ruining lives."

"This is a good birth control pill! I've been on Yasmin for a couple of years, and it has never failed on me. I also took it for acne, but that was hit or miss. I go through periods where my skin is clear and then periods where my skin is bad. If I wasn't on Yasmin, though, my skin would be 10x worse! In addition, my periods have gotten very light and only last 4 days. No mood swings, no nausea, no headaches. I truly recommend this pill."

"I got on this birth control when it first came in 2006 when I was 16. I was on it up until I was 22. Switching was the biggest mistake ever. I LOVED this birth control. I never had any problems with it. Lighter and shorter periods, cleared up my skin, and no bloating or weight gain. The only downfall was I did get very emotional, but that was it, and maybe occasional breakthrough bleeding. Best of all, it worked for me. I am switching back to this birth control and can't wait."

"Until I had to move back home from university because of COVID, I had been using Ocella, which had been alright for me. My boobs swelled, and it is possible I had weight gain, but I had just gotten off the IUD, which messed me up bad. But when I came home, nowhere had Ocella, so my pharmacy gave me Syeda. I have type 2 bipolar disorder mixed with anxiety symptoms, and taking Syeda for two weeks sent me spinning. My anxiety and hypomania have been awful, some of the worst I’ve had in a long time. It was not like this with Ocella, and I don’t know why the pharmacies in my hometown are not allowed to provide it, but I will not be taking Syeda again and would hesitate to recommend it to anyone."

"DO NOT TAKE THIS PILL. I have been on Lucette, AKA Yasmin, for 14 months. I initially went on this to control my acne as it was a real bad flare-up. My skin has been perfect, the ONE good thing. Now for the bad points - sex drive has been more or less non-existent for the whole duration. - I have experienced some excruciating migraines with temporary visual disturbances. I have also experienced enlarged veins with leg pains, which have been really frightening since this pill carries a high risk of DVT & PE. I did mention this to the practice nurse, but they still allowed me to take it? I have had, and still at this very moment, am suffering from incredible depression and anxiety. My mood is so, so low. I haven’t felt like this in my life with regards to mental health. I have no desire to socialize and have completely and utterly cut myself off. I wish I had never taken this pill, and I will never use any form of contraceptive pill with hormones ever again. Please do NOT start this pill."

"I’ve been taking Yasmin for about 9 months now. I have been experiencing horrible depression, been in such a dark place and not caring about anything at all. I’m a very lively and outgoing person, nothing in my life is wrong, but I’m having these feelings. I don’t smoke, nor drink, nor take any other medication, so it must be the pill. I’m expecting my period in two days, and then I will never take the contraceptive pill again. After having two kids, I have pleaded with my husband to get the snip, and I’ve categorically said that I’m not going back on medication as I’m seriously losing my sanity. In a way, I hope to God that it is the pill so I stop feeling the way that I have. It’s been so, so hard, and I just want to feel happy again."

"I’m 25 years old, and this is the first time I’ve been on birth control, and it’s been great! I’ve had no weight gain, no skin changes, and no mood changes. I honestly think this actually helped me quite a bit since I was pretty anxious and sad for a few months right before I started Loryna. I’ve been on it for 3 months now, it helped regulate my periods since I was always irregular. They’re also a lot less painful, super light, and only last 2-3 days. I’m so glad the first BC I chose worked well with my body. It was covered by my insurance through Pill Club, and I got a 9-month supply delivered to me!"

"I was suffering from bad PMS from the day I ovulated to the day I finished bleeding. Bad pain, depression, mood swings. I've been on other hormones, but symptoms of depression and bloating would become worse. I also have PCOS. I started Yasmin with the intention to take it back to back to stop my period, and it has worked well for me. I feel happier and better in my moods, love not having a period, and I've got less facial hair. The only side effects are tender breasts (but this is lessening) and some headaches in the beginning. Also, the skin on my jaw gets a bit itchy, but other than that, it's been good: no weight gain or bloating. I'm aware of the risk of blood clots, I don't smoke and live an active lifestyle, so hoping this helps, as I would like to stay on this pill for as long as I can. I'm 33 and not planning a future pregnancy. If you have had bad reactions to other forms of contraception, it's worth a try. It's helped me a lot so far, where other hormones have made me feel worse."

"I have been on Zarah, a generic of Yasmin, for more than half a year now. I started taking it for birth control as well as some ovarian cysts. For the first month, I have to admit, the side effects of the pill were a bit stressful. Always tired, and my mood swings were really ridiculous. But I gave it a month, and lo and behold, I started having more energy, my initial mood swings before the pill stopped, my abnormally painful and heavy period is ridiculously easy, my face and back acne have disappeared completely, and my bust even plumped up half a cup size. Just beware of some forever-lasting water weight. Oh, and no babies."

"This was the worst BC ever! My doctor prescribed me the name brand Yazmin, and somehow my pharmacy gave me Syeda for months. I have bled almost every day, even when taking it, cramps like no other, knee pain, rash on my chest, anxiety as well. This is generic birth control that does not work! If I could rate a 0, I would."

"I started the pill purely for birth control, although I've always had painful periods and terrible skin. Since being on Yasmin, my face has completely cleared, and I only have a tiny amount of acne left on my upper back. My periods are no longer a nightmare and only last around 2 days, and the pains have almost completely disappeared. The only downside is it costs me $74 every 3 months, but other than that, I love it. I haven't had a single negative side effect to date."

"I was nervous starting Yaz for my endometriosis because of reviews I had read and my bad experiences with birth control when I was a teenager. During the first couple of weeks, I was very emotional - cried every day. After that, my emotions were more regular. I had very little appetite, I lost over 10 pounds in a month. My skin didn't change much. I would have stayed on Yaz because I didn't have any of the pain or symptoms that usually come with my period, but I started spotting about a month in, and I have been bleeding ever since. I start Yasmin this week, and I am very nervous for the transition."
