"I remember reading all kinds of mixed reviews before starting this pill and was kind of worried. I have taken many brands of birth control pills in the past, but I always experienced spotting, and I was fed up. My doctor put me on Yaz, and it changed my entire life… for the worst. Although the spotting and the physical side effects went away, the negative change it had on my mood and my personality was awful. I suffered from anxiety and depression my entire life, but it was always manageable. After starting the pill, I experienced SEVERE anxiety and depression. My mood was always bad, I was always upset and anxious, I would have random outbursts over absolutely nothing. I was an emotional wreck, and I couldn’t control myself at all. I’ve been off of it for 6 days now, and I’m back to my normal self again."

"My doctor recommended this birth control to regulate my period. I was on this for about 3 months, I gained 10+ pounds from this birth control and cried nearly every day about the smallest things. I was so emotional and depressed. I have taken about 5 other birth controls in the past, and they have never given me any side effects like this. I strongly do not recommend."

"Highly do not recommend Yasmin. Advantages - no pregnancy, lighter periods. Disadvantages - weight gain, bigger breasts, no sex drive, decrease in hair quality. Within the first three months, I already had a UTI and a yeast infection, which I’ve never had before in the past. Overall bad for me, I started being way more anxious and stressed out, felt like it was way more difficult to be happy at all. Do not recommend at all! Feel so stupid as I didn’t link any of my symptoms till now, even though I only started having these issues after the pill."

"My experience with Yasmin has been really well. I didn't gain any weight as some people are saying they did. I had mild acne, and now my face is perfectly clear, give or take a monthly pimple. One thing was that I did get VERY moody the first 2 months of taking it. I was not my usual happy self. I didn't want to be touched, and everything was a problem for me. But after the 2 months, I went back to myself. I've been on it for 7 months now, and I'm very happy with it."

"I gave Yasmin 10/10 as I started taking it for birth control, and I did not become pregnant. But I want to point out some other effects Yasmin had on my body. I originally changed from Microgynon to Yasmin after a period of taking no birth control, as I heard Yasmin could improve mood and give some women a feeling of well-being, which I did experience. Yasmin also gave me slightly larger breasts, and I lost about half a stone in weight. The reason I stopped taking Yasmin was because of a sudden dramatic appearance of cellulite on my thighs and bum. I am a UK size 6 and have never had cellulite before in my life (I'm 26). I have been taking Microgynon again for 2 months, and the cellulite has completely vanished."

"I started Syeda because I am an athlete and need birth control to help me not put weight on. The pharmacist told me women gain weight because they think that the birth control alters their eating habits, but this hasn't altered my eating habits at all. It helped me stay at the same weight and has worked very well with my skin after just taking it for 3 months. My eating habits are very healthy, and this birth control has not put weight on me whatsoever."

"I am going on my fifth year taking this medication. I LOVE this pill. I was prescribed Lorena by a new doctor about three years ago, and I tried that for a short time only to have the worst bleeding, abdominal pain, and headaches of my life. I went back to my doctor, got them to prescribe me Nikki again, and I’ve never looked back. This medicine has helped me so much. It has fixed my irregular cycle and completely cured my acne. When I first started it, I do remember feeling nauseous and having headaches. But I continued on it and those symptoms went away very quickly. Like I said, it’s going to be my fifth year on this pill, and I will never take anything else."

"Mood improved dramatically, PMT gone! Completely, and this was becoming a problem as I'm 40, it seemed to be getting worse. I've lost a few pounds and find it easier to keep my weight down, it must be the diuretic and no fluid retention. Bigger breasts, a bit tender but better with time, I've been on it nearly 3 months now. Libido maybe even better, as I feel happier. This is by far the best pill I've been on, and I didn't take the pill for years because of the effects of weight gain and libido. I've tried Mirena twice, awful, mini pill, mini pill injection, cap, and coil. Finally found one that suits, now my GP won't prescribe it! I will try family planning."

"I started using Yaz to treat my PCOS and excess facial hair growth. I always felt depressed, but I kind of dealt with it, it wasn't that bad until I started taking this pill. First, I was crying every night for no reason. I had terrible headaches (something that never happened to me before), and my anxiety and depression are at their highest. I'm having really dark thoughts, and I'm so scared because I think I will hurt myself or my family. And don't get me started on obsessive thoughts, they make me hate myself. Do not take this pill for any reason!"

"I've just started my 3rd pack of Syeda, and I break out less, my boobs are bigger, no real side effects, less moody during periods, and it does its main job pretty well. My periods are also a bit lighter now too."

"Nikki ruined my life for 6 months. While taking Nikki, I got really bad depression, would cry daily, and was in the darkest of places. My life was going well, but I was miserable for no reason. After I stopped taking Nikki, I felt like myself again. Crazy how a little pill can do such crazy things to your head and body."

"I was put on this because due to my PCOS. I hadn’t had a period in about 8 months and finally went to see an OB and was recommended this pill. It’s been about 2 months that I’ve been on it and overall I like it. I got my period the first month taking it and it was about 15/16 days which was expected due to me not having one for so long… however, this by far was the absolute worst period I’ve ever had, not blaming the birth control because I truly believe I had months of build-up just waiting to come out. I’m currently finishing my 2nd month and I’ve noticed a MAJOR difference in facial hair! (a symptom of PCOS) While it’s not completely gone, it has reduced so much that I am finally feeling confident without makeup. My boobs have become bigger and they are sensitive but nothing I can't deal with, also the first month on it, I had serious cravings for sweets… that has gone away for the most part. Haven’t gained or lost any weight."

"Been on this for a year, and so far it's helped me lose 80 lbs, which anybody that knows or experiences PCOS knows it's hard as heck to lose any weight. It's helped the unwanted body hair go away for the most part, and my periods come every month and are usually between 7-9 days compared to once every 4-5 months and being at least 2 weeks long before I started this birth control. The hair on my head grows fuller and faster, and the facial hair is almost completely gone. I suggest this birth control to anybody that experiences PCOS or symptoms like it."

"I was on the pill Loryna for a year and finally got off of it. I was on it originally for acne and then for the birth control aspect. I have never felt so anxious or depressed in my life. I continued to blame my irrational emotions and physical appearance on circumstances in my life but had no idea that this was primarily due to this prescription. I gained weight, which was really weird for me because I was a college athlete, working out 2-3 times a day. I began to develop some pain in my left breast, eventually getting an ultrasound because my doctor was concerned by some lumps that she felt. The radiologist told me that I had an extreme amount of extra breast tissue due to this prescription. I had panic attacks on a daily basis and nightmares almost every night. I highly recommend not taking this. I wish someone would have warned me about everything I was about to go through."

"I was taking Yaz for almost 7 years, and I loved it! My weight never changed, my skin was beautiful, normal sex drive, no cramps, 3-4 days periods. In 2013, I saw some weird spots on my face, after the consultation with a doc, it turned out to be melasma (nothing dangerous, but it doesn't look good). One of the most common causes is oral birth control. It wasn't the Yaz, just birth control with a higher amount of progestin. I switched to Mirena, and that was the worst decision ever! Acne, mood changes, gained 20 pounds in 3 weeks. I'm going back on the pill this month, and we will see how it goes, I will post about it in about 6 months."

"I get my prescription sent to my pharmacy via Nurx. I was on Gianvi for a little over 2 years when all of a sudden my pharmacy stopped carrying it, didn’t inform me, and switched me to Loryna. I’ve been taking it for almost 2 months, and I was absolutely miserable. I have PCOS, and while I was taking Gianvi, my periods only lasted maybe 3 or 4 days. While I’ve been on Loryna, my latest cycle has been 2 weeks+!!! I also gained a little bit of weight, which I’ve never had an issue with weight gain while on Gianvi. So I asked my pharmacy if I could get Gianvi elsewhere, and they gave me another location to pick up from that DOES carry Gianvi. So I switched back today and am hoping it gets everything back to my “normal” again. I DO NOT recommend Loryna."

"Best birth control ever. Curbs my appetite so much. I went off Yaz for 2 months and actually gained weight and was hungry 24/7. I have no negative side effects at all, and I never feel hungry. I have so much energy, and my mood is more stable. Yaz is perfect for me."

"I have been taking Yaz for about a year now. My skin has cleared, and my periods often skip for months at a time, and when they do come, they are just spotting (I wanted to take Yaz to regulate my period). Over the past 6 months, near the end of my packet has been something I dread, I become very emotional and depressed. I often have a hard time getting out of bed, feeling unmotivated, and have many self-deprecating thoughts. It honestly scares me. When I am not nearing the end of my pack, I am myself, bubbly and energetic, and constantly moving. I will be looking for a replacement and want anyone thinking about taking Yaz to be aware of any mood changes. While there are some positive replies here, there are many negative ones, and make sure you are using something that is truly benefiting you more than hurting you. Wishing everyone the best!"

"I am in recovery for an eating disorder (binge purge anorexia) and decided to get prescribed “Yasmin.” After researching that it does not cause hair loss or weight gain (two very important things to me in recovery). I read many reviews and ignored them, thinking that as long as the stated above side effects didn’t happen, I would be happy. Not only has my mental health declined enormously, but I have also experienced a huge increase in my appetite, and with that, the gaining of 4 pounds over a mere 4 weeks. This has been extremely distressing, I cannot warn you enough. Nothing can make you gain weight but the food you put in your mouth, but it did create a sense of “lack of control” around food that I had spent months moving away from. It has made me feel crazy and not myself. Please listen to the long list of users that have had an awful experience and find a different one. Don’t do it to yourself and find another one. Hope this helps someone."

"Personally, I took Syeda for PCOS, which is a generation-four birth control meant for people with abnormal hormonal issues, such as an excess of hair or testosterone. Because of this, it is NOT recommended to take as a normal birth control option because it is less studied and has a different form of progestin than other birth controls. Syeda is a generic form of Ocella, Yaz, and Yasmin, which all are generation four as well. It should not be your first option for birth control. Personally, for me, this has helped my PCOS hair growth tremendously and has resulted in no side effects or weight gain. Everyone is different, but I can see this easily harming those who do not have hormonal abnormalities if they were to take this."

"Absolutely horrendous - went from 55 kg to 68 kg and I’m only 5 ft 2 in a matter of 3 months. I feel terrible about myself and I can’t fit into any of my clothes, it’s ruined my summer. I’ve stopped taking it today, so I hope that I can get myself back to feeling good enough to go out!"

"I'm 32 and never took any birth control pills. I was on the fence about taking Yaz due to negative responses. I love this birth control and I'm glad I took it. I only experienced light bleeding during the 1st month of taking the pill. When I finished the 1st pack, the bleeding stopped. I noticed I was emotional when I took the first placebo pill, but when I took the 2nd, I was back to normal. My doctor put me on the pill due to irregular periods, and when they came on, they would be extremely heavy. I missed work some days due to this. Well, when I got my period while taking Yaz, it came on when taking the placebo pills and was light, NO CRAMPS, very short. My skin looks great, I wake up happy as can be, no emotional issues, sex drive up."

"I was super terrified to try Yasmin, but I wanted to try it for my hormonal acne. Yasmin has really helped (so far), my face has been gradually clearing up during the past 3 weeks, and my painful cysts are flattening. My skin is whiter too - less red and blotchy. So happy about that! I lost about 5 kilos in 3 days. I wore one pair of pants one day that were tight and had to change them at the end of the day because my thighs and stomach had so noticeably shrunk. It was like I took some kind of shrinking potion! I kept my chest though. :) I love Yasmin so far. I have more energy, less hair fall, better skin, no emotional flares, and it's helped with the insomnia that I got after my friend died. I sleep like a baby now. I was slightly nauseous for the first 2 days."

"I've just started Yasmin. I was on Diane-35 last year, then stopped, but the water weight didn't seem to go away, and I had cellulite that I had never had before Diane-35. In 9 days, I've lost about 2 kg. My mood seems fine so far. I have to visit the bathroom more often. The best thing - I'm about a cup size up, from B to about C now. It's fantastic, and I cannot wait for my boyfriend to see them! Diane-35 made me feel awkward and out of place because of the sudden water weight on my legs, bottom, arms, tummy, etc., but I feel so light on Yasmin. Yasmin gave me back my flat tummy (I had some bloating problems). First month in, and it's been fantastic. I cannot stop looking in the mirror."

"I've been on many birth controls trying to find the right one for me. I was on Apri a couple of years ago, which gave me very bad anxiety, so after that I switched to Tri-Sprintec. This pill didn't cause any anxiety, but my skin broke out so terribly on it! My third and final switch was to 'Yaz', at the pharmacy, I was handed the generic Gianvi. I spent hours reading reviews and was a little nervous to start taking these pills, but they have been great. My skin has completely cleared up, I never break out at all anymore. I had no mood changes or anxiety, nor weight gain. This pill is sensitive with regards to breakthrough bleeding, if just one pill is missed, you can expect spotting the next day. Otherwise, an AWESOME pill! Highly recommend!"
