"I'm on Yasmin for 3 years. 3 very long years. I started on Yaz and had it for a year and had breakthrough bleeding, so I was told to go onto Yasmin. Well, I've gained two stone. Skin is spotty around the time of the month, which never used to happen. I cry if I'm tired or angry. I cry if something happens that wasn't supposed to. I'm very emotional. I've had enough of it now and am changing the pill after my break. My sex drive? Nonexistent. My mood swings? Dangerous. My body? Fat and tired."

"I was prescribed Yasmin by my GP 3 years ago. After 2 months, I became depressed and very moody, but the acne on my back cleared up. I decided to come off it for my sanity, my moods improved, but my acne returned. 7 months ago, I decided to give it another go. This time has been fantastic. I'm 31, and my skin has never looked so clear, and my hair growth is much faster. I have always been a B - C cup, but 7 months on, I am a DD. My mood never changed, and I just feel great. I wouldn't change from Yasmin now, it's been great for me."

"I have only been taking this pill for two months. For the first month and break, it was fine, but ever since the second break, I feel like I have gone insane. I am so, so glad that I found this chat. I was feeling so low, had so many intrusive thoughts, and irritable anxiety. I have been feeling very depressed and just want to hide in bed. No matter what I did or how much I tried to make myself feel better, nothing worked, and now I am considering getting therapy for the level of anxiety I have reached. It also personally did not help with my skin, I’m not sure if that’s because I haven’t taken it long enough, but for the sake of my sanity, I can’t take it anymore. I am in my early 20s and it makes me so sad to think there are teenage girls who probably continue to feel this way and take this contraceptive pill."

"I've been experimenting with different brands of birth control for 15 years. I took every pill under the sun, including the shot but always suffered terrible side effects from nausea and vomiting, to crazy mood swings, depression, anxiety and weight gain. Yaz is the ONLY pill I've been able to tolerate. I have very minimal side effects (some breast tenderness, occasional spotting). My skin looks great, I have more energy, I haven't gained a single pound, my periods are light, I still have a sex drive, and my emotions are not all over the place. I get that everyone is different and what works for some may be a nightmare for others, but if you've not been able to tolerate any other brands I'd give Yaz a try."

"I just came off this birth control, Yasmin, after suffering from the worst mood swings. I have never been so depressed and disoriented to the point where I felt like I was going crazy. I was having problems with everyone in my life. I cried day and night and would lash out at people. I didn't know if it was the pill or if something was wrong with me. I thought the heart palpitations I was feeling on a daily basis were just me having some sort of anxiety disorder, but they have now completely disappeared. I can't believe I am enjoying my life again after just a week of not taking these pills. Other symptoms I had were that it made my period pain 10 times worse, even though it's not supposed to be a real period? And migraines-don't get me started, they would last for days. I don't ever really write reviews, but I had to because if there are other girls that are feeling what I felt, please stay strong, don't feel alone, it gets so much better when you stop taking it."

"Seriously, beware of this birth control. I was on Yaz for about two years, and the negative side effects of this pill are never-ending. This birth control caused me to go into a deep depression for the entire duration I was on it. I was on and off anti-depressants trying to combat the negative effects and ultimately got to the point where I was completely anti-social and so anxious/depressed that I was skin and bones. It even got to the point where I was having suicidal thoughts on a regular basis. Once my doctor determined these all may have been side effects of Yaz (not sure why it took so long for my doctor to realize this, but that's another conversation), I stopped taking it, and within 24 hours, nearly all of the negative side effects were gone. Crazy! Long story short, this birth control literally ruined my life for two years. I highly recommend avoiding this unless there is some specific circumstance that causes this birth control to be your only option."

"DO NOT TAKE Syeda! During Covid-19, my pharmacy switched me to Syeda from Ocella. I didn’t think anything of it. Oh boy, was I wrong. Gained 20 lbs FAST, had severe acne, and crazy depression and anxiety. Thought it was all due to Covid-19 stress. However, from doing my research, I am now learning Syeda messed me up! Throwing it out now."

"I was very concerned after reading the reviews for this birth control. My doctor had me switch to this birth control after I had been experiencing bad side effects from Blisovi. I have to say that this has so far been the best experience I've had with any birth control. My skin has cleared up beautifully, and it has been glowing because of this. Not only that, but I have had the easiest periods with no cramping. I didn't experience any mood changes except for the first week on this pill as my body got used to it. It's important to remember that most people who do have great experiences with a drug wouldn't think to write a review on it. That being said, everyone's bodies are different. I recommend giving this pill a try."

"Was on Gianvi for about 2 years before CVS/Aetna switched me to Loryna. While I was taking Loryna, I was a raging lunatic the entire time. I am typically a very laid-back, easy-going person, very non-confrontational, but on this pill, I literally could not control myself. Every single thing made me so unreasonably mad. I knew at the time I was overreacting to everything, but I couldn't help it. I never felt so out of control in my entire life. Eventually led to me crying hysterically in CVS, begging for them to fix my prescription, telling the pharmacist she should be in prison for changing my meds, causing a scene and getting kicked out. After that, I stopped taking the pill and never returned to that CVS."

"I was on this pill for a year, then tried to switch to Nexplanon, so I wouldn't have to remember to take a pill every day - HUGE MISTAKE. At least for my body. I'm back on Ocella, and I'm BEYOND happy with it in comparison. Gives me the clearest skin, went from B cup to D cup without gaining weight elsewhere, and it's worked well as a birth control so far! Ladies - the scariest thing about birth control (besides all the nasty side effects) is you really won't know what works for you until you try it. Everyone's bodies are different and will react in different ways. I hope you find what is best for you :)"

"I had the worst experience on this medication. The one and only thing that got me through was the strength of the Holy Spirit. I took this medication for 10 days, and I experienced crippling anxiety. Two months later, I am taking anxiety medication to get my body back to normal. If anybody is reading this and going through something similar, read the word of God."

"I'm 20 years old. I've been on Yasmin for 3 years and have experienced horrible side effects. It's great for acne, weight loss, and actual birth control, but my mood swings are crazy. Before starting this pill, I was a very happy, positive person. After taking this pill, I've become crazy, anxious, depressed, upset, and stressed out over the tiniest things (causing major fights with my boyfriend) at all points in my cycle. This is a major side effect and shouldn't be ignored, it has completely changed my personality, and I won't be taking it again after this month is over."

"I have been on Yaz for 2 weeks, and it completely changed my mood. I went on it to clear up my cystic acne due to my period. My skin has cleared up, but my mental health has severely deteriorated. I am extremely emotional and angry and have random outbursts, which I have never experienced before. I do not even recognize myself, and I am stopping this pill immediately."

"Trying Yasmin for the first time and honestly, I was freaked out by all the bad reviews on the web! But a review from someone (a nurse) said everyone's body is different so you can't rely on others, and besides, people usually feel the need to write reviews when things are bad, and don't bother when it's good. So, I'm gonna give it justice. I've tried it for 2 weeks, expecting all these depression, mood swings, nausea, weight gain, loss of sexual desire, and all other things people say happen to them... to happen, but NO, nothing changed at all! All those did not happen at all! I know I only tried it for 2 weeks, but this review is to tell you all ladies out there, just try it; if your body 'matches' with the pill (like mine I guess, I hope it will continue like this), it feels amazing because you have the safety without any side effects!"

"I found this forum because I googled 'can Yasmin cause depression.' I was an extremely sporty and energetic person, my house was always clean, and I had loads of time for my children. I have been on this pill for, I would say, 8 months now, and I am a shell of myself. I have been for blood tests to see why I feel exhausted, weak, and sick constantly. I have no control over my emotions, have lost interest in life in general, and have zero sex drive. I am off it after reading this thread and cannot believe a pill may have done this to me. If you feel any of these side effects, stop immediately!!!"

"I've been taking Yaz for 3 months now, and I absolutely love it. I've lost weight without trying, and my periods have greatly decreased in heaviness and severity. I have not experienced any of the bad side effects like depression or tiredness, I wake up happy and ready to go. The only difference I've noticed that is not so great is that the first day of taking the placebo pill, I tend to be emotional, but that usually clears up by the second day. Also, if I miss a pill, I usually have stomach pain until I take it, which is actually a nice reminder to take it. I love Yaz though and cannot say enough good things about it."

"Thought: Everyone's body is different, but also be mindful and rational about external forces and behaviors causing issues, mainly with mood/relationship problems. After 2 years off from taking hormonal birth control, I'm about to reach the inert pill week and so far this is what I've experienced: tender breasts/nipples, but up 1 size; improved mood (history of mood swings, but they were mainly as a teenager, I am now 22); improved complexion; more intense clitoral sensation; mild vaginal dryness; minimal if no weight gain (attributed to increased appetite in general with hormonal birth control); maybe a mild decrease in libido; no bloating."

"I have been taking Yaz for almost 10 months now, and it has been the best pill I have ever been on. I am taking it for hormone replacement as well as acne issues. During the first month of taking the pill, my skin went through a horrible purge, which lasted about three weeks. After that was over, my skin began to improve daily. I rarely get breakouts now (occasionally a single pimple), my hair is so thick and healthy, and my sleeping has improved immensely. I have found my moods have been really stable whilst on this pill and have had zero issues with spotting. I have lost about 12 kg since I commenced this pill, and that was during lockdown and with minimal additional exercise. I highly recommend this pill if you need to regulate your hormones and want to improve your skin, hair, and lose some weight in the process!"

"I took this pill for 1 year. My experience was very good - overall - my PMDD was almost nonexistent. I would barely bloat or feel my period coming. I had no period pain or cramps (which were really bad) and although I've never suffered from acne, my skin was flawless! However, without any sort of diet change or continuing to be very active (5 days a week), I gained around 25 lbs while on this pill. I really liked how good I was feeling emotionally, but the weight gain was making me miserable, so I decided to stop. I have been off the pill for about 7-8 months now and I can safely say I have returned to my usual weight. However, while on the pill, my breasts grew from an A cup (nothing) to a full C cup and they have decided not to go anywhere. I know everyone's experience is different, but I've been on other hormonal birth control before and none have caused me to gain weight like this pill. I also experienced hair thinning, but I've noticed that has reversed back to normal now. Hope this helps any of you!"

"Switched to Loryna to help with acne and didn’t notice a change at first, but it gave me severe anxiety, and I felt hopeless and depressed every day, even to the point of having suicidal thoughts. I thought I was going crazy because of how fuzzy and out of it I felt. Didn’t feel like myself at all, had no appetite, GI issues, and heart palpitations. It is not worth it for a little less acne. I've only been off it a couple of weeks, and I feel SO much better."

"This birth control, Nikki, has saved my life. Before I started taking it, I had severe anxiety. For over a year before, it was hard for me to go anywhere and live my life. Every time I was out, I would have an extreme panic attack and I would start to feel like I was lightheaded and about to pass out. I was so nervous to start this birth control because I’ve had bad side effects from others (moodiness, constant nausea). I didn’t know birth control could help with anxiety, but the first two days I started taking it, I could see a HUGE difference. I tried to stop taking it for the few period days, and my anxiety returned, so I’ve decided to skip my period days and continue taking it. I’m almost finished with my second pack and haven’t seen improvement in acne, and I do have sore breasts, but no other side effects. I’m sure this will improve with time. This birth control has saved my life and made me feel normal again! I recommend it for anyone suffering with extreme anxiety."

"I’m really happy with this birth control now. The first 2-3 weeks were rough. The side effects made it difficult to get through the day, as I felt sick and could barely move. It may have been a bit better if I’d taken it with food; I do now and have no side effects. As for acne, since that was important to me - it’s all cleared up! I’m really happy that I’m not getting big, painful under-the-skin zits on my chin anymore. It gets 5 stars just for that. If you’re considering this pill, I recommend it. Just make sure you take it with food!"

"I started Yasmin 3 months into my happy, healthy relationship. I was never a jealous, insecure person, and I had hardly even experienced severe anxiety before. The first 4 months of this pill, my skin cleared up, I was happy with how it made my body look, and it didn’t affect my mood at all. Another 3 months on, and it was the worst experience of my life. I’ve never felt so low, depressed, insecure, I thought my boyfriend was constantly cheating on me or didn’t love me. I took it out on him, and it really damaged my relationship for a while!! I lost contact with my friends and only ever wanted to be in bed, away from everyone. I felt like I was watching my life go by in a routine I couldn’t get out of. I felt constantly bored and sad and cried constantly!! The worst thing is I never even clocked that it was the pill, so I was convinced I was going crazy!! I came off the pill, and even though I’m better than I was... I haven’t felt the same since. AVOID THIS PILL!!"

"I was on Yaz for about 6 months. A couple of weeks ago, I was finding it hard to breathe and having chest pains. To my complete surprise, doctors found I had multiple blood clots in both my lungs blocking almost my entire airway and admitted me into the hospital straight away. I am a healthy 23-year-old, and doctors said they have never seen a PE (pulmonary embolism) as bad as mine. Tests came back confirming that the clots were caused by my Yaz pill. They told me that had I waited a couple more days, I could have dropped down dead without any warning. Very scary to know the pill can cause this much damage to the body. I don't know how they are still producing and selling this pill. After my near-death experience, I will NEVER recommend this pill."

"I am currently on this pill and have never felt so low and depressed in my life. I have been on it for around 2 months, and for the past two weeks, I have cried every day, had no motivation, a lack of relationships, and had really dark thoughts. I am generally such a bubbly and sociable person, but I have canceled plans, been absent from work, and had no motivation. This pill has caused me to have depression and feelings of being low-coming off it tomorrow and just hoping it makes a difference. At the clinic, the lady said that this is good for mood swings-she was wrong! If you are feeling down, please come off it immediately because it can really affect your life negatively."
